Odhinn Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 It seems to me that many Tanker's last primary power (T9) tend to be garbage especially since Incarnates. I main Invul so i will use Unstoppable to illustrate. It offers 70% resist to all (but psi of course) and then crashes s hard you are likely to die if any mobs are left. I skip this power and I don't think I have seen a good build that takes it. Conversely on my Bio tank Parasitic Aura is a good power. Not trying to start a rant on T9 powers (for armor sets especially) being trash but I think the last power is a set should be one you look forward to. Regardless, what power sets have the best T9 in your experience? Or worst.
Scranker Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Ice Armor's T9 for Tankers (and Brutes) is Hibernate. And it's decent. But what I would give to be able to swap it out for Icy Bastion, the T9 from the Scrapper/Sentinel/Stalker version of Ice Armor. *wistful sigh* 3 Winteriel Ice/Fire/Nrg Tanker | @Scranker Global
Microcosm Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Yep, icy bastion for sure. Almost all the crashing t9s are a guaranteed skip for me, except for electric armor's. Electric's gives the only toxic resistance in the otherwise-covered set. It also emits a mag two hold when it falls, which can be added to with the lockdown proc thanks to ppm changes for a mag four. This means it can hold bosses when it crashes, giving you a little time to do something other than die 🙂 1 Inspiration maker's guide
Heraclea Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Radiation Armor's Meltdown is very much worth having and slotting. OTOH I have never taken Unstoppable on a tanker. tidge Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I haven taken Unstoppable, but only as an IO Resist Damage mule. The power never stays in the tray.

nihilii Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I have a friend who takes Unstoppable on all his invul characters and use it to good effect. It's especially impressive on his brutes. He goes and tanks the final 7 in the LRSF or STF Lord Recluse, and because we tend to play as a duo and not a full team, it's 100% not something he could do without Unstop. Then he warns me when he's about to crash, hops away, uses a couple lucks, pops Rebirth/Dull Pain, retoggles and he's back to tanking until Unstop is up again. I don't recall the last time I've seen him die to a crash (I don't recall the last time I've seen him die ever on his invul characters, for that matter). In a sense, it's weird: because Unstoppable is so cumbersome to use for most of us, watching him make it work successfully to pull off "impossible" feats TRULY gives a legendary feel to the power. Everyone can Aim+BU+nuke, few can shrug off crash T9s like it's nothing. That is to say, I feel brute invulnerability has the best T9. Best = wow factor 🙂 1
Hyperstrike Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 (edited) Good for your friend. For most people, Unstop is merely a suicide button with a 3 minute delay and pretty much HAS been since the advent of Invention Sets. And, in the current game, with the understanding of Defense, Resistance and their various synergies, it's even LESS relevant. And on a heavily tweaked build, you're simply better off using small or medium Inspies or Incarnate powers (Barrier, Melee), as they offer zero crash. Seriously, on a build like this (see below), what is Unstoppable REALLY providing? Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! LOL I was trying to come up with a joke about RotP, since my main is a Fire tanker, but this is better than anything I came up with. Seriously, though, if it just retoggled all my armors when rezzing, then it would become super useful

Why couldn't Fire and Dark armors self rez do something similar / perhaps with reduced effectiveness? 1

Why couldn't Fire and Dark armors self rez do something similar / perhaps with reduced effectiveness? That would be cool. Having a self-rez on what is supposed to be the toughest AT does seem a little silly. Even if you do die, it is not going to be very often. 1

Its like having a big orange insp on a cooldown. Yeah, it's not bad, though I don't really use it as part of my regular play. It's more of a "whoops one mob too many, press x to not die" button. But yeah as long as incarnate powers are available to me, I prefer to save Barrier as my primary get out of jail card instead. So not garbage, but not exactly a gem either. 1
Frostweaver Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 (edited) Hibernate is amazing for weathering a rage crash. That's about it. Bio is pretty awesome. Edited October 18, 2019 by Frostweaver 1
Luigrein Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 *gets in rocking chair* Back in my day you tanks had heart attacks from unstoppable every 2 minutes and liked it! I had a 6 slotted absorb pain just for you. Seriously though, yeah the crash ults don’t usually do much for you once IOs hit the field. Add it to the list of things that are decent with no IOs and made redundant with them. The no-crash t9s are generally decent, albeit niche in some cases. 1
MrAxe Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Hibernate is great. Time a taunt before death and slotting it for heal means you're not in the ice for long. Was even better when you were not limited to 30 seconds. Great afk tool. 2

With that rotation or combo Rebirth Radial and Melee core that's way better than unstoppable. One with the shield isn't bad so that gives you another in the rotation. Shield One with the shield + Rebirth Radial - Melee core Or One with the shield - rebirth radial - Melee core On shield you have to try hard to die with those combos and still probably won't. Invul Dull pain - Melee core - Rebirth Radial - Melee core Or Dull pain + Melee core - Rebirth Radial Or Dull pain - Melee core + Rebirth Radial. Even harder to die on an Invul. 1
