I'm sure it's doable, as I've done it on a Dark/Dark while leveling. Fire/Dark should put out more damage (though not that much more for single-target). But once you get Dark Servant, defense isn't much of an issue, and between Twilight Grasp and Howling Twilight, there is enough -Regen that it should be quite possible to solo them.

Defensively, the trick is that -Resist improves your -Damage. I took Weaken Resolve and put an Achilles Heel into it... with stacked Tar Patches and Weaken Resolve I expect at least 40% or so -Resist, but usually more like 60%. On higher level AVs that probably drops to 40%, but that still multiplies the damage debuffing by 1.4. You put out 30 from Darkest Night and another 30 or so from stacked Twilight Grasp, and Dark Servant puts out 30 from its Darkest Night and close to 20 from its Twilight Grasps. That's 110% -Damage... multiplied by 1.4, you're over -150%. Even a +3 AV is at the damage floor, and you're spamming heals (which happen to stack -Regen also). There is no way that any AV can hammer damage through that debuff and healing, not even counting all the -ToHit and base Defense. Carry Break-frees or use Clarion, and mezzing isn't an issue. So... incoming damage isn't an issue and mezzing isn't an issue, and between about 5 stacks of Twilight Grasp and about a 50% uptime on Howling Twilight, there is enough -Regen that even a low level of damage should be able to drop its health bar. And if you build for damage, you should be able to output more than a low level of damage. I think the Imps alone put out about 63 DPS base, before the -Resist (on even-level AVs, though... only about 40 DPS on +4s with a level shift).

So... numbers look pretty solid for soloing AVs with an kind of /Dark Controller except maybe Mind (because you're using a lot of animation time, so getting "free" damage from your pets is big). And I think the top 3 should be Illusion, Dark, and Fire... maybe Grav, but you're having animation time issues with that.

Can agree with all of this. My dark/dark has soloed the clockwork king in the portal corps mission and also the GM in the hollows trial. That was without any set bonuses too. (For the hollows trial I did cheat and confuse one of the igneous bosses to use as my pet with my haunts!)
Granted not the most challenging, but I wasn’t geared either.

Ok I see all this talk about builds and such and while they look good on paper, how do they really work in the game?

My Fire/Rad is a beast.

I have soloed all the GM's and only Jack in Irons gave me some trouble but only a bit.

I have soloed Sister Psyche TF and the Treespecs with no issues at all. The Shard TFs are a pain as you have to do all the hunts solo all over the place, and a team really helps that go faster.

Now on a team, well you just make them your pets and you just hum right along.

Kins and such can greatly boost dmg with FS but AM is more consistent and less likely to miss if the blaster goes in and nukes the group before FS goes off.

Like I said on paper there may be better builds, however in real "in game" world play my Frad will roll all them over.

This never crossed my mind as a primarily Dominator player.....but it's super intriguing.  I'd be curious to see your build, Warpact.

My buddy got me turned on to it, he had one a ele/cd that he used to solo all AV/GM. I always liked rad more so I took it.

Not at my PC but I'll post.

If I dont do it in a couple days send me a msg to remind me plz.

I mean the usual +4/+8 AVs. I would love to see you solo a 54 AV.

I'm sure it's doable, and frankly, it's one of the better builds. I do +2 AVs with Dark/Dark, but only in the 40s... at 50, adding purple sets would easily push that to +3, which is a 54 AV with a level shift. And Fire/Dark should do a bit more damage (not much more, but a bit), though it's not as strong defensively. And adding Clarion would be a major help, also, not to mention all the other Incarnate bonuses. Fire/Dark is one of the powerbuilds that does AoE (for Controllers), and ST, and can handle AVs defensively. I wouldn't say that every Fire/Dark can solo 54 AVs once at 50 with a solid Incarnate build... but I would say that it's one of the easier builds for it.

Read the long post I put up earlier in this thread about how much -Damage you can put out even against +3 AVs if you just spam the -Damage and -Resist powers. Hot Feet, Imps, and the -Regen mean that you don't have to spend that much time directly doing damage, so you're free to floor the AV's damage. Even a +3 AV won't do much when they're doing 25% of their normal damage.

If you're fighting a level 50 AV/GM, it should have 85% resist. That means -40% resist would debuff it to an effective 79% resist. Applying -110% damage would thus reduce it's overall damage by -23.1%. About half of that is the almost-certain-to-be-killed Dark Servant so you're looking at -12% or so in practice.

No, AV resistance doesn't apply to -Damage or -Resist debuffs. They are affected by those debuffs like normal mobs (although a few AVs have really high Resistance to their own damage types, so sometimes the -Damage debuff is strongly resisted by their normal damage type Resistance).

Nah. Only if they have 85% resistance to damage type that they also deal.  An AV like Dra'Gon (lady grey TF) has 60% fire res and deals mostly fire damage. That can be a challenge.

ya exactly. -dam is quite effective vs GM's and many AV's. Watch out for unstoppable though haha.

How would dark/poison fare do we think?

I've no insp/temp/lore killed many GM's with my poison/fire defender.

Lvl 53 AV's are usually a non issue. Lvl 54's are often quite difficult (again no insp/temp/lore) as the debuff values really taper off.

No reason to think a dark/poison controller couldn't do similar. But you do have to spam envenom vs GM's to get a handle on their regen. AV's don't regen much, so it is less important, so just cast it once every 30 sec.

Resurrecting this thread!

How would both the below builds fare in this situation:

- 46.55 S/L Def, 46.49% Ranged Def

- 134 sec hasten

- Fissure slotted with FF+Rech which will hopefully bring the global rech down enough

- ST rotation = Infrigidate, Dark grasp, Seismic Smash

- ST rotation is rather lacking with this build!  Strangler + Arcane Bolt.. I wish Soul Mastery had an ST attack in there. May have to change the set.

While I haven't played '/traps' on a controller, I do play it on a MM and Controllers have better numbers for debuffs, without the 25% endurance increase that MMs have, so I think my experience with /traps would work here too, as Controllers will have better numbers with less endurance issues. /traps also complements ill/ really well, because most of the debuffs are in the form of pets, which don't break Superior Invis stealth, AND it has an immobilize power, which ill/ lacks, allowing you to keep hard targets, like AVs from running around the map.

/traps has the highest -regen power in the game, in Poison Trap. Its -1000%, compared to -500% from /cold and /rad. It also does a unresistable vomit animation to humans, which most AVs are (giving you 2-3 seconds where you can just bash on them without getting hit back) AND it's easily stacked, as the poison cloud pulses multiple times throughout the duration and the recharge isn't that long. Also its an AoE mag 3 hold, with the pulse doing another mag 3 hold, allowing you to hold entire groups of mobs pretty easily when you aren't trying to destroy their regen. Oh, and you can put the entomb +absorb in it, giving yourself a 10-15% absorb shield almost every time you use it.

/traps also has the ability to stack a lot of -resistance, and -defense not just in procs, but also in the fact that all of its debuffs stack on themselves, as they are from multiple different sources. So stacking multiple Acid Mortars (you can do 2 of them on SOs, you can easily get 3 out with high +rech. If you get creative with Burnout, you can even 4 stack them) means all of their numbers stack on themselves. You can also put a -res in Caltrops if you wanted to stack even more -res.

/traps also have -tohit, and -damage in the form of seeker drones, which automatically double the debuff numbers, as each drone does its own debuff, and you can also stack them with enough recharge to get 4x to 6x the debuff numbers. Seeker drones also has -perception, which complements the stealth from superior invis, allowing you to debuff without the mobs knowing you're even there.

Also, traps has +regen in Triage Beacon (though its not very useful solo, and could be skipped on a Controller) and +def and MEZ protection in the FFG. No need to worry about toggles dropping when you have a dispersion bubble following you around.

I would say that an ill/traps Controller would perform better then an ill/cold and an ill/rad if all three are built roughly the same. the /traps has higher debuff numbers due to all of the stacking, and better mitigation powers with the mez protection and +defense, and giving you an immobilize power that ill/* desperately needs to keep AVs in one spot. Web Grenade is normally an awful power, but AVs don't have immobilize protection, and ill/* doesn't have a built in immobilize like the other control sets.

Time bomb and Trip Mine could easily be skipped on an ill/trap too, as you have better powers in your primary, freeing you up to get more defensive based power pools.

My Dark/Dark and Earth/Dark can solo Eochai and Jack at the same time. Since my Dark Dark controller can output more damages with the Umbra Beast and perma Haunts combo and can stack up even more -tohit at once, she can solo most level 54 AV except very powerful exceptions like Ghost Widow and Lanaru the Mad. /Dark controllers are not fast killers, due to the Fact that Howling Twilight has a long recharge, but they are probably the safest AV/GM killers, with the strong mix of -tohit, Defense and damage resistance. It can even make a weaker primary, like Ice control, becoming an AV and GM killer. A lot of secondaries have stronger debuffs, but they are not as safe as /dark.

That being said, Illusion with perma PA is unstoppable especially combined with those secondaries with stronger debuffs (like /Traps, /Rad and /Cold). One could argue that Illusion/dark is safer, which would be true, but it does not really matter as Perma PA is the definition of safe... So with an Illusion controller with Perma PA, the secondary is just a matter of preference and concept.

I'm already going to flip TP:target and combat jumping for exempting.

Hibernate is a wildcard slot. That could be:

Burnout - I have on a MM traps and I never use it and Traps MM kinda doesn't care about endurance at 50

Triage Beacon - With the same proc, pushes my regen when standing in it to 300%

Combat TP- With the perception proc, for shenanigans

I'm also unsure if I care about Winter's bite in frozen blast. I'm scared of clockwork robots and kheldians. It could be 3-4 procs and some thunderstrikes since it doesn't give me recharge.

The slot for FF in trip mine seems superfluous as +100 would hit the hard cap on recharge, so another proc in caltrops?

Very proc heavy which I get its important for soloing avs/gms, however I would figure out a way to eek out a bit more recharge to keep PA perma without need of that Force Feedback proc, as if you're soloing a giant monster or something, you don't all of a sudden want all the agro that was on PA redirected to you when it does drop. To help achieve that I would switch your destiny from clarion to ageless core. It looks like you were smart enough not to put in Agility with all those procs, that's a common oversight that I'm glad you didn't fall prey to. I really don't see the Decimation proc firing off that much in Blind, because at 1ppm, the recharge on blind is already really low (if I did the math right, its about a ~17.5% chance to fire off). Also instead of teleport target which isn't useful for soloing avs/gms I'd use a 1 slot wonder of Weaken Resolve. You can load it with an Achilles for a 90% chance to proc, but honestly acid mortar should proc well enough, so alternatively you could slot it with a +3 lyso for up to 17% defense debuff and its base 7.5% res debuff.

Yeah I saw that mids auto turns on those FF procs which throughs me off.

I had to compomise on the alter of recharge and added flash back in which made PA 60.3 seconds. I'm sure lag will get me killed enough for my debt badges =p

TP Target is the new wild card with the same choices as before. WIth perma PA do you really need to tp teammates?
