Martial Arts on Brutes

Is it any good? Why or why not?

I have several tanks, scrappers, and stalkers. However I have yet to make a Brute since the game returned. Back on live I had an Energy Melee/Energy Aura brute. I loved it until the nerfs to EM. So I thought it was time to try out Brutes again and wanted to use a primary I haven't picked in my other characters. I've been thinking about what sort of primary I wanted to try on Brutes. something that goes well with building fury, and MA came up as something I don't have yet. If I go that route, I will most likely make an MA/SR brute. Thoughts?

FYI: My other interests would be Claws/ Earth/ or Kitana/

I'm slow-leveling a MA/DA Brute right now, and at low levels that combination is working well enough. I wanted to do a MA/* Brute back on live due to character concept, but it wasn't available at the time. Likely due to MA only have the one AoE and that at high levels, as I believe 'common wisdom' was that would make fury generation wonky. I've not really noticed a problem with that yet myself, but I'm not a hardcore min/max 'must go fast' player, so it might make itself known at higher levels.

It's not bad, IMO.  I like how one of the early powers grants a def buff for Brutes and Tankers.  I tend to cherry-pick whether I want to use the kick or alternate animations, to best fit the concept I'm going for...

Not sure if this is necroing. I just noticed this post. I am leveling a ma/electric brute and its been awesome so far. It is very survivable thanks to the defense buff from MA. MA is a little endurance heavy but, I have only had to slightly slow down, though not enough to not maintain high fury. So far it has been a breeze to 20.

No worries about necroing, better necro an old thread than start a new one.

Did you have any specific questions on MA?

Thank you but, not as of now. I was just mentioning my experience so far. The set seems pretty straight forward so far. Seems to be a pretty underrated combo.

As someone with a level 50 MA/Bio brute, I strongly suggest picking up Cross Punch from the fighting pool and possibly an AOE epic/patron power to supplement the fact MA only has dragon's tail for in-set AOEs.  Ideally do both.

I strongly agree with those sentiments & did the same on an MA/Fire Brute

Necro again; “LIFE.  Give my creation...  LIFE!”

Yeah, can’t overstate how good Cross Punch is!

With full slots and Boxing plus Kick (just owning them is enough) it hits for just under Crane Kick, has a %stun, has a %knockdown, gives +recharge when it hits, and hits up to five targets in a wide cone.

All this and it still has great recharge and endurance values that let you spam it in an attack chain.

I’ve been using TK, SK, Cross, Claw, and Dragons Tail.  The +rech off Cross noticeably helps attack speed when you land a good hit on a few mobs.

Been considering switching from Claw to Cobra Strike or Crane Kick.  A lot of the time my Claw target is killed by the team before Claw connects.  CS or CK do similar damage and good bonus effects for a lot faster activation.

I lose a guaranteed Lt detoggler and +damage buff from Claw.  Pretty sure my DPS would increase by swapping out Claw, though.  Claw’s DPA is that bad.

My main is a MA/Rad Brute. His initial build i went with is fantastic , however i want to take his dmg to the next level. My question for this dojo is related to dmg procs and are they worth slotting them into single target attacks. If so, how many should I slot into them? doing this though I would reduce my over all survivability.

a damage proc is worth slotting into crippling axe and claw, and if you get cross punch it's worth frankenslotting into that. I wouldn't bother with Dragon's Tail though... with the proc changes on AOE's it just doesn't seem to be worth it anymore. On Dragon's tail I will usually go with an FF +recharge and obliteration skipping the proc.

I actually wound up skipping claw though... It's juts too darned slow on a team, and crane kick is much faster, does almost as much damage, and is perfect for frankenslotting.

Cross Punch and Spring attack would be auto adds for me on a MA character. Sub out Thunder Kick to add in Boxing/Kick to get the dual bonus on CP as well.

Can MA go with shield? I’d assume you could get good mileage out of using rad or shield (or fire) to add to your AOE— but realistically you only need one low cool down aoe attack to perform well.

i do feel they could steal some of the /nin from dom to switch in some aoe instead of

all the disable stuff

cross punch, spring attack, mu lightning ball and cages, and dragon's tail. a complete aoe attack chain.

doesn't look much like MA anymore 😛

To be fair, only two attacks would look odd for MA.

Yah guess you don’t

well, she has a point. The fury mechanic is sorta designed to take advantage of multiple enemies, and while I can certainly SEE a brute only using one AOE and focussing on ST attacks, I'd rather play a stalker or scrapper who specializes in ST than a brute who is SO much stronger in AOE than both but cannot approach their ST damage.

When Hulk Smashes he never just beats up one bad guy... if there's only one he also beats up cars, telephone poles, walls, innocent bystanders...
