I miss my Ice/Fire/Fire the way the game was just before the servers closed on live.

 

Just a nostalgia thing. That was my "main." I was one of very few Ice Control Dominators.

 

I missed it so much over the years I wrote a mod for Torchlight 2 heavily inspired by Arctic Air.

 

It was never the most powerful build, but it was my unique one. It's seen some ups and downs since back then.

 

The Contagious Confusion proc in Arctic Air used to be pretty effective. Now less so because of proc changes. The main beneficiary of that change was... Plant Control. <jealous face>

 

 

I've got some ancient videos of Ice Control from pre-closed servers. If you can stand the choppiness, here are a few.

Ice/Rad Troller circa 9 years ago. I think was right after Alpha slots came out, a while before Destiny came into the picture. You can see the massive problems I'm having with endurance costs resulting in many powers going unused (this is how we lived back then).

 

 

Ice/Rad versus the original fire farms that relied on ambushes in a conference room, it was surprisingly good at this.

Okay, it's all IO'd out and incarnated... but Im questioning if I want to keep Call Hawk (which notably does a crap ton of damage) or just load its stuff into Swarm and use that -- at that point, I'd have no "consumers" so i can spam away and keep my endurance reduction without worrying about exhaustion...  right now I feel bad sometimes using Hawk because itll consume my endurance redux 😞

Call hawk does almost as much damage as seismic smash, albeit as a fast dot. I can't imagine not using it.

I Hawk is your only consumer, you're going to rebuild blood very quickly from your other powers.  Plus, Hawk does an amazing amount of damage, replacing that damage is going to take more time and, possibly I haven't run the numbers, more endurance then just launching Hawk.

Yah, I'm keeping it for now - but I still think the tab-ability of say call swarm is pretty appealing vs hawk. It's probably because I like call swarm but can never actually use it on any character lol... xD

Out of curiosity, how are you slotting Call Swarm?  On my Grav/Savage Dom, I have two from Entropic Chaos Acc/Dam and the healing proc.  I use this power as part of my attack chain to build blood and it just fits in nicely timing wise.  Otherwise its only used to take out a foe with a tick or two of health.  Can something more be done with it?

No, that's why I can't really ever use it -- it would be me fighting vs the game to use it out of preference.

 

My Plant/Sav is 

Hawk, Leap, Vicious, Stranger, Unkindness, Roots for its attacks (chose to go roots rather than a PPP for now, which seems to be working quite well -- primarily because I didn't really have enough time for another regularly-used AoE anyways... things die so fast with plant/sav... so I just went Water Spout, at least for now. I kinda really want fireball, but I do find use in Hibernate since I'm a bit... overzealous. Although I like Psi, Tornado is too slow to use for the speed of savage... so I just kinda said 'meh' and decided throwing roots out was fine enough [and it is]... Kinda interested in Mu as well... but we'll see if I decide to switch things up.  Likely could end up with ice PPP, as sleet would fit in just great over Spout.)

Keep Call Hawk, because it does damage more efficiently regarding Endurance than Call Swarm. You lose End efficiency by consuming the stacks, BUT your base damage efficiency is better, so overall you don't lose much if anything by using that instead. The bigger cost is losing the stacks and their yummy +Recharge bonus.

 

Also, Call Swarm recharges fast and has a relatively low End cost.. I think I ended up 3-slotting it. Heck, if you're willing to spend the money, three HOs will max out Acc and Damage, or with set bonuses for Accuracy, probably one HO and two basic damage IOs will have the power slotted well enough and hopefull still leave slots for Ladyhawke.

 

I found Plant/Savage to have plenty of AoE, so I looked more for utility in the APP, and the choices were:
Psy for Link Minds to help soft-cap multiple positions
Mu for a pet that heals
Ice for Sleet

 

I went with Psy, but those all seemed like good choices.

I run with the two best

 

Fire/Psi/Mace - This is still the best for melee style Dominating thanks to the power of Drain Psyche, plus adds some debuffing for AVs with -250 regen.  In fact I ran a 4-man +4/8 Master ITF w/ no inspirations, all range (1 Dom, 1 Blast, 1 Def, 1 Con) in ~32mins. (oh yeah and the enemies were buffed)

and

Mind/Fire/Fire - This one I play at range, hover-blasting.  Fire shoots fast and hard and Mind has powerful controls.  Also don't have to worry about my pets surviving, b/c my enemies are my pets.

My Mind/Nrg/Soul would like to differ with your statement about what's the "best" melee dom there is.  I've run those hard mode ITF's of EV's on my dom.  Our all squishy 4 man was sub-30 mins, check EV's bio for Letifera she'll be listed all over that.

this one above was with the enemies constantly buffed.  And currently the times are 4man man Brute 26 mins, 4man Blaster and 4man Corruptor 29mins (+4/8 no deaths/temps/inspirations).

 

And the reason why I back Fire/Psi is b/c it has better sustainability (Drain Psyche) and has a nice -regen debuff for AVs, also Mind Probe and TK have better DPA than every Energy Assault attack, and PSW > Whirling Hands.  PSW does more damage with a shorter casting time, and adds -rech along with a similar stun.

 

For melee I would take Rad, b4 Energy, and probably a number of others as well.

Just checked with EV and Letifera ran " [Master ITF]EV: actually it was 5-man diversified ATs and he was the Dom that did 25ish mins".  That said I would love to run with you to see if we could get a 4man Dom team under 30!!!

 

EV also said " [Master ITF]EV: i think if u have 3 more uber Doms teamed with him, u can break 30m"   That would be awesome

I swear I did one with my dom tanking and 3 other blasters and we did sub 30.  EV must have it listed on some other toon and forgot but whatever.  Yeah I'll typically be on to run one of those some time.

ice/ice/ice is probably is my fav Dom. Once ice patch is down i just rain down the icicles and watch the mobs melt away.

 

I had a plant/thorny but rerolled as plant/fire and have enjoyed the results., Seeds+vines+carion creepers is fun to watch, then  shooting some fire at the mobs is satisfying. i use him a lot in fire farms to pull mobs.. 

 

my main is a mind/fire/ice and have played no other alts since returning last may as it has a bit of everything. ice/ice/ice does appeal to me though for the amount of -rech powers. 

 

having both chilling embrace and arctic air would really change the pace of battle (and dramatically change your endurance bar)

I've redicovered the love for my Dark/MA perma-dom after being drafted for a +4 Katie Hannon during the week. Wasn't even optimised for handling it really (you want more reliable immobs and possibly Sleet at 35) but it was great fun. Since then I've decided to finish off my Incarnates with them. 

 

(If I was to choose a Domi build for +4 Katie I'd be leaning more towards a Grav/Ice who takes Sleet & Tactics. You need all the help you can stopping things flying around and as much help hitting +7s as you can).

I just got my first dom to 50 (Yay me!). Fire/Fire/Fire. I must admit, he was one of my more expensive builds, not so much the quality of the IOs, but the respecs and switching IOs (I don't have MIDs, so it's a guess and check for me--which is part of the fun). I love how Fire animates, but I struggled with this one because there were powers that I wanted but couldn't afford end-wise. Couldn't seem to get end consumption under control. He works now, but there are powers I wish I could have taken.

Learning from him, I jumped right into my Ice/Ice. She's doing better end-wise, but damaging attacks are a little short atm (only level 20).  Very enjoyable with when I duo with a friend. Solo is a bit of a struggle at +1x4. They're held in place and can't attack me, but it takes so long for me to kill them. hopefully that will change when more slots come.

I still have Earth/Earth, Mind/Savage (the one I mentioned earlier), Gravity/Energy, and Dark/Martial waiting for some play time. 😃  Electric/, Plant/, /Psi, /Rad, /Thorns I don't have concepts for... yet.

I'm leveling a Plant, Psi, Ice right now, based on my research on this board.  I am really happy with the way it's all working together. 

I really like the Fire Control Set, but I am trying out something new that I haven't tried before.

Recently got a grav/psi to 50 and it’s ridiculously fun. Wormhole into the PBAOEs never gets old, Grav/ has great single target damage so I don’t have to take many attacks from Psi/ which lets me use more power pools, and the sets allow for enough S/L resistance IOs that the toon never takes damage and can stay in melee range spamming Drain Psyche/Shockwave, with WoC full of damage procs, to my heart’s content.

Dark/Savage. The thing is, once you go Feral Charge, it is hard to play anything else. I kind of wish I had got with Fire instead of Dark so I could have a damage toggle while dealing out all that melee damage, but the Dark is a lot of fun and fits the theme well. Honestly, I tend to just go berserk with her and forget to actually control stuff, which can be bad. But, she is so much fun.
