Neiska Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Hello Tankers, First, Happy Friday! I wanted to make a tanker that is good for AVs and GMs, able to solo them (if thats possible.) I have tried several of the Av/Gm builds and powersets such as a Traps MM or Illusion/Rad controler, but I didn't like them as they felt odd/unwieldly, and not fun to play at all. So I am wondering if its possible to make a tanker capable of soloing AVs and GMs, if it is possible. I have a Radation Melee/Bio tanker, but she couldnt get past its regen/do enough damage. But it couldnt kill me either, so we just sort of had a staredown. Working on an EM/Bio tanker now, but a friend is insisting that Super Strength would be better. Or what other options would be there that might be better? Thanks bunches in advance!
Apparition Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Bio/EM Tanker will easily do it, especially if you obtain the Longbow Lore pets. For AV and GM killing, EM is definitely better than Super Strength.
RobotLove Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 (edited) Rad/Rad is has been my go to for GMs since before the tanker buffs last year. Bio/ is probably better. Key things are liberal use of -res procs, particularly in Irradiated Ground if you stick with /Rad. Musculature Alpha (I run Radial), Degenerative Core Interface, and Assault Hybrid (Core vs Radial doesn't matter as much here). Patience is most important. Even with the buffs to damage scale, a tank is still not a dps machine. Bring daggers. Edited January 9, 2021 by RobotLove 1

Neiska Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 Thank you everyone. Still having problems, I can get the GM I've selected down to about 20% consistently, but then I always run out of steam and it just heals back. But a friend who knows more than I about such things said the GMs in AE are tougher than the garden variety that people speak about, so that might be it. (shrug) Mostly I have been testing about the one you can spawn in AE, the skynet at the end after you hit the glowie. But thank you for the input everyone, it is appreciated.

When you say, "Run out of steam" do you mean, "run out of End?" If so, my recommendation is to to pick up the device from the P2W that buffs your recovery. When one of my alts has a bit of End troubles, that always helps.
Neiska Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 No, I dont run out of End. It just seems my damage cant keep up and it just slowly heals. I keep using my same rotation and debuffs, but once the lore pets wear off I can only watch its hitpoints slowly creep back up. It's not an End issue, I am running EM/Bio. I use the -regen powers I have and try to hit as hard as I can, but apparently without longbow lore pet I just dont have enough -regen. I meant to try those daggers out but haven't had a chance to yet, was a busy weekend.
Bastille Boy Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 I have a Willpower / Super Strength proc monster that can solo an AV at base difficulty without using envenomed daggers. It's a slog. I don't remember this toon's pylon time, but it's not great. I very much doubt that I could handle a +4 AV with this toon. The build compromises survivability for damage, which I think is a bad trade-off for a tanker. I'd much rather maximize survivability and run solo missions EB-only. The big weakness is defense debuffs. Willpower has some defense debuff resistance, but not much, and I haven't built in a cushion to deal with debuffs. So cascading defense failure can happen fast. Posting the build, but as more of a cautionary tale than a recommendation. Bio/EM should have more than enough DPS to clear out +4 AVs without needing the Dagger, the Dagger should speed things up quite a lot though. It might help to post your build so we can get an idea of what your slotting looks like. I had a Rad/EM posted in the Pylon damage thread that puts out 400+ DPS without having Hybrid active, you ought to be able to blow that away with Bio to push your damage higher.

That sound right? That's enough DPS to take out AV's without issue. Just doing napkin math, with Hasten down and no build up you'd push 200+DPS and a level 54 AV regens something along the lines of 102 HP a second so you'd have enough damage output to put those down, but it might be tiresome, Lore Pets and Daggers will speed that up quite a bit. GM's on the other hand, at least level 50 ones (they have a hidden level) take quite a bit more to be able to put down. 350+ according to @nihilii and I've never known them to post bad info. So you'd need to look at some major revisions to crack that threshold or just use Daggers which should allow you do defeat just about anything. If you do want to look at major revisions to your build I would follow the link Myrmidon posted above and look for Sir Myshkin's Bio Armor Blank as a framework to build off of.

That should get the job done.. 1
Neiska Posted January 15, 2021 Author Posted January 15, 2021 So, when using daggers, whats the best way to go about it? Just get a stack of them and incorperate them into your attack chain? Never used them before, not a big fan of tempoary powers usually. 1

I have them on my bar at all times for runners anyway. You can have 300 at a time if I remember right. I never run out so they last long enough to keep stocked.
Sovera Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 I don't think Bio really adds much other than the +damage adaptation. I would either go with Shield to be an all rounder of damage boosting + survival, or Fire Armor for extra boom. It was just Claws but a FA Tanker always came out on top compared to a Bio tank when doing pylon tests. I found Rad Melee pretty mediocre on a tank. The animations are too long and though it is chockful of utility and a great mass AoE destroyer it is not particularly strong in soloing tough targets. Claws or EM will do the trick. Claws as the all rounder with AoE and ST. EM as the ST specialist (the difference between the two is not super huge on a tanker but in my testing it does down a pylon about 30 seconds sooner). There was a time Titan Weapons was -the- beast to do anything and that included the killing of GMs but after the recent tuning pass it received I don't know how well it came out. I do know it became much better to actually play it. - Simple guide for newcomers. - Money making included among other things. - Tanker Fire Armor: the Turtle, the Allrounder, the Dragon, and compilation of Fire Armor builds. - Tanker Stone Armor: beginner friendly (near) immortal Tanker for leveling/end-game and Stone Armor framework. - Brute Rad/Stone and compilation of Brute Stone Armor builds.
