Couple thoughts for Doms

Spectre7878

Does anyone else think dominators should get a endurance buff toggle like blasters got. I feel Dominators really struggle in the endurance department. They have so much going on and within the build your trying to focus on recharge and accuracy. Maybe it’s just me.

Also the domination feature.
I kind of think controllers should have got the domination feature and Dominators got something else. I would love for something to change with controllers and dominators inherent powers.

  • Spectre7878 changed the title to Couple thoughts for Doms

1: Domination does refill the blue bar. If you're running perma-Dom, assuming you're going from half a bar up to full every 90 seconds (could be a bit faster, too), that's .55 EPS recovery, better than many other +Recovery powers. Although it's a lot less smooth than a constant +Recovery, over a long time it's pretty strong.

2: Domination has gone through a lot of changes, but Dominators went through a major balance pass a year and a half ago, and Domination wasn't changed. I would be shocked it if were revisited for major changes at this time after it was left unchanged then.

The Endurance bar refill from Domination is a wonderful thing.

The Endurance struggle is real (while leveling); from my PoV this is one of the foundational reasons for chasing PermaDom. To express my own thought a different way: If I wasn't going to benefit from all the other reasons to have PermaDom, I probably would not be doing enough with the Endurance I'd otherwise be spending.

It's buried somewhere in the "buff dominators?" thread in General Discussion but I think a change that would help pre-endgame Dominators a lot would be a endurance cost reduction and to hit buff that scales with the Fury bar.  Low level play means constantly juggling controls and attacks and missing with a control power is both a waste of endurance and potentially very hazardous, and the lower enhancement values and scarcity of enhancement slots pre-level 25 or so, I think, turns a lot of people off of the archetype.

gotta say even with perma dom my fire/earth can be abit rough around the edges end wise not to mention leveling it was basicly an atrocity but a question like this i feel provokes another question do we balance domi around having level 50 slotting and perma dom because it is definately an AT that sucks at leveling and turns some ppl off

I had to take Cardiac in my Mind/Fire dom and even then I still run out of endurance if I'm being reckless with blasting.

Might be the nature of the snipe having a quite large end cost and now sets with snipes usually fit it into a normal rotation. OTOH, earth and ice secondaries don't feature a snipe, but toggles

Also, at permadom or chasing it, our recharge is very high and consequently, the buttons to push are ready much faster

I almost went the Cardiac route, but decided to go Ageless instead. It's another click I have to keep track of and I do sometimes forget in the heat of battle. But on the plus side it gives a nice recharge boost as well as Endurance.

Two Words:  Drain Psyche

Although, I get /Psi is far from (and should not be) a universal choice for secondary. It really did help the levelling push, though.

My Dom's probably do get sugar-daddied / spend time marketeering more than any other AT I play though. They're very powerful and until they can establish control over the battlefield, very fragile. So I try to rock the set bonuses and the unique IO's ASAP on Doms. Panacea, Power Transfer, Perf Shifter, Miracle, Steadfast/Glad Arm, ReactiveDef/Shield Wall, ATO's, Winter-O's, etc.

Doms are the only archetype in the game where building in an excessive amount of +recharge continues to improve your effective recovery the more you have of it. Domination can be made perma at 128.75% global recharge, which is achievable without hasten, meaning you add hasten on top of that giving you an effective buffer against recharge debuffs and bring your domination click to 65-70 secs for your full endurance refill.

For leveling a dominator I recommend picking up the +recharge and +recovery base buffs, which are essentially free and last 90 minutes. For a leveling dom the knockback protection base buff can be good too if your domination drops. I would also invest in recovery serum temps, which i believe I pick up on every character that I play, because the buff is pretty intense and lets you ignore your blue bar thoroughly. I even use the recovery serum on things like my kinetics characters because it means clicking transference less often.

Cardiac can be nice if you are running tough/weave/maneuvers/tactics/hot feet/arctic air. I usually dont invest in slotting things like weave and maneuvers for endredux, the slot opportunity cost is pretty high there, so cardiac can make a very large difference. Musculature is very good for dominators though because their base damage is quite high.

You can certainly build both though cardiac and musculature though. Run musculature with ageless or when teaming with anyone that provides a recovery buff or when you plan to use temps or base buffs, and run cardiac when you don't want to be bothered by blue bar management or want to run some other utility from destiny slot. I find ageless to be uncompetitive with other destiny choices, mostly and by a large margin incandescence, but also with barrier and rebirth for what dominators naturally lack in survival mechanisms.

Currently on fire.

I have a fire/fire/fire perma dom, and even running some leadership toggles, plus hot feet she doesn't run outta endurance.

Granted, Consume fills the gaps that Domination might have, and flashfires every ~15 seconds means she hardly gets hit, but its fun times.

I feel you, brother. It wasn't until I could get the Cardiac Incarnate slotted AND placed a PErformance Shifter +end proc in Rise from the Flames (in addition to stamina and the 3 procs in HEalth) that i felt like my endurance woes were mostly resolved.

At high levels, with a decent build, Doms rock up and down the square.

At low levels... they can be slow. Which by itself isn't the end of the world. Some characters, if you solo level them, you have to rest practically after every fight.  That might be less enjoyable than going "Hulk SMASH!" through map after map, but the point is, that's not really unique to dominators per se. More than one AT has some late-bloomers. Defense based characters used to take it seriously on the chin back when you still needed Training Origin enhancments until lvl 12, and Dual Origin enhancements until lvl 22, because they could just never amass enough defense to go fire-and-forget.

Where I do think Doms have some issues, is levelling in particular missions where the boss comes after a dry spell, with a long scripted cutscene,. Something that means any existing Domination will have worn off, and where you mgiht not have enough fodder left over to build up Domination again.  This is particularly true if the boss is something very resistance to holds /eye Arachnos Huntsmen, where you might struggle to stack enough hold mag on it without Domination before it smears you.

OTOH, some of that is probably my own darn fault for commonly playing at +2x2.

But Doms more than any other character, I find myself carefully managing my inspirations and making sure I've got a few reds, purples, and and yellows when it comes time for the big boss during the 1-30 phase.  (usually around 30 is when my Doms seem to fully bloom)

On my dom I take Soul Mastery for all those nice powers, one of them is the pbaoe endurance drain, it's a fantastic emergency power which comes in handy if I'm running hot and far from re-clicking domination.  To make it a useful power outside of just the refill I slot the pvp -res proc which is sure fire thanks to the long recharge of it so I'm getting a refill and a -res debuff whichever I feel useful in the moment I get both.

Aside from perma dom there's plenty of options available for endurance recovery, most epic pools have some kind of endurance optimization power.  I'm not saying they don't run hot on endurance but there is plenty of options available to fix it for doms.

My plant/fire/fire has perma dom and also uses ageless core, and still if i'm doing a LOT i'll get close to running out of end. But yeah doms use a lot of end lol. I'd use incarnate abilities to fill in those gaps.

Some ATs ride the ragged edge of disaster with wildly swinging green bars, Doms do it with their blue bar.
