RIP Batman

Kevin Conroy, iconic voice of Batman, dead at 66 (nypost.com)

This one hurts...alot. I grew up hating the Adam West show and the character as a whole. That all changed with Batman: The Animated Series and the wonderful voice cast led by Kevin. In time, I learned to appreciate the 60's TV series for what it was, but there will always be only one Caped Crusader for me. You will be missed.

So, while this thread belongs in off-topic, or maybe comic/hero culture, I'm gonna let this sit in general for a bit for visibility.

EDIT: moved to Comic/hero culture. Figured it was left in General long enough.

I was absolutely obsessed with the animated series as a kid. All the toys, every product on the market - sleeping bag, camping set, costumes, night light, movies, plates and cups, I was singularly focused on Batman as a kid. Conroy's best performance was easily Mask of the Phantasm, along with the legendary performance by Hamill's Joker. Conroy's voice of Batman in that series is how I imagined all heroes sounded until I met ones in real life.

Death is a normal part of life, but I will miss him. He will live forever in the pantheon of my heroes.

He was the best rep for Batman/Bruce Wayne IMHO.

Adam West didn't even change his voice between the personas.

There should be a "Kevin Conroy Day."

"Surprised to see me?"

"A little. I'm more surprised that I lived so long."

"Batman, Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne, Batman. Or have you met?"

"Not now!"

"Great. What did they used to call it, 'stereo'?"

I'm going to miss him terribly, but he gave us so much.  Rest in peace.

Been reading tributes from his assorted cast members - Hamill, Tara and Grey in particular… plus Lynda Carter and others from around the nerd world.

But I’d like to just mention that:

a) he was genuinely a good bloke

b) he enjoyed the #!?@ out of being Batman.

Played some Arkham City over the weekend just to hear his voice again.

Really great guy; extremely gracious in person.  The world is bleaker without him.

You put it very well! He deserved better. Everyone does.

But games? He used to pay his bills with games. (He's recovering well, thanks for asking!)

We lose famous people all the time, recently seems to be a spate of big names going, but every so often one comes up that really, really hurts.

Kevin Conroy was my Batman.

That TV series cemented my love for the character and his portrayal was absolutely legendary.

So gutted he's gone 😞

Kevin Smith was asked about it recently as well and said it all beautifully.

Goodbye Kevin Conroy, and thank you.
