Took some inspiration from other posts here to change my UI setup to this! Liking it much better then my previous setup ngl

How to say "I like red" without saying "I like red".  😉

👉 By the way, since we're discussing UI:  Has anyone found the way to move announcement windows out of the way?  There are few things as annoying as being in the middle of a fight and suddenly right over the combat is a pop-up window announcing "You've just attained your first..."blah, blah, blah.   I don't mind the notification, but I'd really like to put its pop-up point somewhere out of the center of combat.

I keep a lot of buttons and macros out, and use custom windows quite a lot too. This is my set-up for running pick-up teams.

Despite all this, I'm not a clicker in combat, I have a lot of key binds for things that aren't on my main command bar 1.

Well like I said, I color the UI specific to the characters color theme, and red is important for Solar Streak because sun but also because Red makes you go faster!!!

Here's mine...

Not criticizing, just curious:  I'm not sure I understand the reasoning for having macros on several of the control trays instead of adding another Custom Window.    Is just a stylistic choice or is there something I'm overlooking?    Also, what's the function of the custom AE control on tray 4?  I assume it is associated to the Architect Entertainment system.

Well, my SG and Base editing macros have just always been that way. I'm used to it. The macros in Power tray 6 on the upper right are there because they take up less screen space than a custom window. They're more out of the way. I suppose I could move most of those macros in that tray to a pop menu in the custom window since I don't use them very often, but the macro labeled 7 in that tray is one that I need to click on multiple times rapidly (it cycles through every member of my team so I can easily see if everyone on my team is in the right place while doing incarnate trials), and you can't do those rapid clicks in a custom window when using rotating text binds using /bindloadfile. But I guess I could put that macro in a power slot in the lower power trays. Hmmmmmmm

The BAF one was left over from a test... forgot to remove, and of course the 2 test ones at the top. Normally, there are powers up there but was switched to a different power tray at the time of pic. So... no good reason. 😉

The custom window is in that location because I click on it often when leading BAFs. It's closer to where my mouse pointer usually is.

The AE macro icon is an accolade power called Architect Comlink that allows you to open the Mission Architect mission editor/creator from anywhere in the game. Basically it allows you to use the /architect slash command from anyplace in the game. You get it by acquiring the Mission Engineer Badge.

No. But... there is a slash command called /dialog_answer you can bind to a key that might let you quickly exit the pop up.

I never did share mine; apologies. But I did have to add the custom window first!

I do not recommend this set up for anyone. When I first started playing, During issue 3, I wasn't in the habit of teaming, as I was figuring things out. One thing I learned incorrectly was getting used to not having the map and the team list up at the same time. I never liked having the map drop right in the center of my screen, and I always moved it to the upper left. Just got used to it there. I should have moved it to the right or left it where it was - because when it covers the team or league list, I end up closing it, and then opening it...in any event, it is what it is.
Kids - don't do what I did!
I also play in windowed mode because I'm just as likely to be tabbed out as tabbed in. The stats in combat attributes kind of suck because my character is level 31, still working on getting the slots to slap the IOs in. It's part of my project to have a fire/natty corr on 3 accounts so I can have each on stand by to swoop into the abyss if there's room and still have a fairly useful character in the mix. It's also one of my 4 favorites AT/powerset combos to play.

Bog standard. I started with just one action bar in the middle. Of course soon had to increase to two to fit all the toggles and attacks. It grew to three bars because eventually ran out of room. And it's now four bars to fit all the incarnate buttons and etcwhich I've not had the need to increase further. I turn all macros into keybinds despite having four SG bases I regularly use. It's pretty much my WoW UI since it's what I evolved into: buttons down, target and my HP down so I can glance from buttons to HP without scouring the screen, and then one extra bar on the right to add whatever did not fit or is of least importance.

The only annoyance is my inspiration window will pop out of place each time I enter an instance and I need to drag it back into place.

I was curious to see what others' setups look like

A post on this topic usually comes up once a year or so.

City of Heroes Screenshot 2024.11.12 - 12.53.25.31.jpg

Tray 5 for non-combat and team quick message macros

Tray 6 (or other number tray in that location) overflow stuff and things that don't need to be clicked on often

Tray 7 (or other number tray in that location) Fast travel power, banter macros, and overflow stuff

Tray 8 (or other number tray in that location) is mostly for costume changes.

The IB macro changes costume and to tray 9 (which generally holds more on-cape type powers)

Can hold one or more costume with tray flips/selection + pre-costume change emotes and/or banter.

macros available upon request.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Mine's pretty boring, just everything out of my way and I only click the map if I need it.

This is why I use a bind on SHIFT+M that toggles the map very big or very small. I keep the map open all the time, but the tiny map. Here's the bind:

Re-size Map Bind
/bind SHIFT+M "/bindloadfile c:\[directory location]\map1.txt"

Ever want to keep the map up on a screen at all times? Or wished you could make the map smaller? Or flip between a super small and large map with ease? Well this is the bind! It's a text bind, so you'll need to do a little preparation. It works by pressing the SHIFT and M key together. Press it once and it becomes super small. Press it again, and the map window is reset to its previous size. You'll need to click the blue dot on the map window to detatch it from the Navigation window first. It's an AWESOME bind!

map1.txt
shift+m "window_scale map 0.65"

map2.txt
shift+m "window_scale map 2"

If you don't like the rotating text bind setup, you could always put the first command string on SHIFT+M and the second command string on CTRL+M or something like that.

Changed "float" to "0.65". Float will work, but it's the result of an error. Might be better to just use the scaling number.

IIRC you can use this bind which answers "Accept" to the dialog box, which in turn closes the box:

/bind Y "dialog_yes$$dialog_answer Accept"

My current layout 💛

Top left is my nav bar/popmenus/gimicks

Big text box so I don't miss as many messages, and set at the height so with a full team of 8 or a full team of 48 it doesn't block the options above and instead becomes flush.

Pet window next to that - the pet power tray (Including minis) - Situational powers/Incarnate power storage (So I don't have to scroll the power list when I swap) - Main 3 power trays - Inspirations - Combat stats - map.

Then in the top right I have my target binds/builds/most used Aether costumes, with my buffs to the side of that 💛

I also have a key bound to remove all my UI with a single button to help with seeing certain things or for admiring the game at a press of a button!

All these setups look so good but also really making me want to get a bigger monitor for some reason lol

One sneaky thing that happens is that Windows by default scales 4K monitors which should be 3840x2160 to 2560x1440. You'll find a "Scale" setting in the display control somewhere defaulted to 150%. I set that back to 100%. Then, I go inside City of Heroes and change the UI scale to 150%. City of Heroes does a better job of  making windows and text sharp and readable this way, and lets the rendered graphics use the full glory of 4K.
