TailAbNormal96 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) EDIT: Thanks for al the great answers! -- I just started playing this game for the first time ever a few days ago, and I noticed that some people seem to be ridiculously overpowered with levels in the hundreds or even thousands. Am I reading their profiles right? If so how do you get to such a high level and does doing so actually give any mechanical benefits? Edited Wednesday at 06:34 AM by TailAbNormal96 Thanks 1
Snarky Posted January 6 Posted January 6 many farmers easily achieve this. netting vet levels per hour. Goddess Lauciana is a major event leader on Excelsior. the character is loved and played. a lot! if you play the toon vet levels come easily. 5
Britannic Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Once you hit level 50, you keep earning xp for "Veteran Levels". 4
Game Master GM Crumpet Posted January 6 Game Master Posted January 6 Veteran levels are what you get after you finish normal levels. Someone like Laucianna runs numerous events like Hamidon, Mothership Raids, Labyrinth etc. daily. I usually get three vet levels doing Labyrinth. I believe Laucianna is the highest veteran level for that archetype (peacebringer) And Veracor is the highest veteran level out of everyone at around 14-15K (might be higher). 8

After level 50, you can earn salvage that you can convert into "Incarnate" powers every 3 levels up to Vet Level 99. After that, there is no mechanical benefit. It's simply a number that can reflect the player's dedication to that character. Some folks shut of XP gain, and even though they have played for years their Vet Level is relatively low... so it's not even 100% accurate to a person's playtime. Basically, it's a really good sign that the game we're all playing remains fun long after literally everything is unlocked. 5
Glacier Peak Posted January 6 Posted January 6 No reason to exceed Veteran Level 99 beyond vanity, no offense. Some folks have kept at it since Homecoming launched and put up huge numbers, but at the end of the day it's meaningless. A farming character could reach well in to the thousands and still not know how to get in to the Midnighter Club or send an in game email. A player could hit Veteran Level 99 two months after starting on Homecoming and then disabled experience ever since then... 4 I lead weekly Indom Badge Runs / A newer giant monster guide by Glacier Peak / A tour of Pocket D easter eggs! / Arena All-Star Accolade Guide! tidge Posted January 6 Posted January 6 The utility cutoff (for rewards) at 100 Vet Levels is a somewhat new thing. Of course running other content that offers rewards, including fun times, will keep earning XP... so it isn't exactly only "vanity". 1
Zhym Posted January 6 Posted January 6 2 hours ago, TailAbNormal96 said: does doing so actually give any mechanical benefits? Not directly, AFAIK. "Veteran levels" don't increase fighting level the way actual levels do—a character with veteran levels still fights as a level 50—more or less. Incarnate powers can bump that up to three levels depending on the content being run, and the whole incarnate system can significantly bump character power after level 50, but those are features of the incarnate system, not a direct result of veteran levels. A character who ignores the incarnate system could have hundreds of veteran levels and would be no more powerful than any given level 50 character. 2 1 1

I can get a level 1 character to vet levels in an hour or so on Mapserver. 1

Game Master GM Crumpet Posted January 6 Game Master Posted January 6 3 hours ago, srmalloy said: Assuming that you can move and attack in the horrendous lag... 😁 True. I find Excelsior is bad for it, the other shards less so. I've found that if more than one league is in close proximity then the lag is horrendous. I'll often make a second league then incan the league to the other side of the map. Most people stick to the portal areas, especially in Steel and Skyway. Moving to the far reaches of the zone makes it less awful.

"Veteran levels" don't increase fighting level It definitely does not give any mechanical benefit. Rather, the mechanical benefit is already possessed by those with the mental fortitude to keep attaining useless levels. I've done some farming with vet levels in the 600s, and I can say from personal experience that the only real reason to keep going is a successful build that is agriculturally profitable. When my alts need influence, out comes the farmer to grind out some cash. The additional vet levels are just an incidental side effect.
Jacktar Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Hi guys, the above jogged an old memory from way back on live. I was stood standing in Atlas (as one does) on my farm char that had a modest 30ish vet levels. I saw a couple of level 2 and 3 players come over and were definately checking out my alt, np. I then get a PM from one of them asking very politely if I would share my “Cheat code” with them. lol I replied that I was sorry I could not do that because in our game there were no cheats. Their response came very quickly to the effect that of course I had cheated because they knew the game max level was 50 and I was at level 80ish! Made me laugh but I started to type a response to explain about Vet levels when I received another response detailing the fact that apparently I did not have parents and should go self procreate! They both then left for pastures elsewhere. I returned to my farm and laughted for the next 10 vet levels, heheh ah the good old days. 🤣 2 3

KC4800 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I look at vet levels as a sign that the character and powersets are actually fun to play. If it wasn't fun, you'd retire the character. 3 Victory: reserved for future use Indom: Schtick, Pummel Pete, Plymouth, Pilkington Reunion: Ghost Legacy, 7s7e7v7e7n7, Mind Funk, Bluto Excelsior: Phrendon Largo, Fred Bumbler, John van der Waals,Allamedia Jones, Tzapt, Sn1pe Torchbearer: Phrendon Largo, Kenny Letter, Bewm, La Merle, Enflambe', Rock Largo, Bulk of the Weather, Retired Phrendon Everlasting: Phrendon Largo, Krown, Buzz Words, Bicycle Repairman, Dee Fender, Carmela Soprano, Radmental Boy, Beet Salad, Sporanghi,Sue Ahn Cuddy, Fukushima Technician, Snow Globe Girl, Thug Therapist, Apple Brown Betty

This new character of mine only needs 100 vet levels. It's currently in character creation but should be in Zigg in about 2 hours. No idea how to get out of my cell after that so I'll need you to come to me and get me to your farm. But to the OP, seriously HC has been up since 2019, a lot of us have had lots of time to get to the max level and get a ton of vet levels. Some people consolidate it over a main toon, while others level up a ton of alts. 2
