Archery/TA, 40% to ranged and S/L, 45% bare minimum with incarnate.

I was looking into an archery/TA blaster to change things a bit. What I came up with is nothing ground breaking, but still, I will post here to see if someone spots improvements.

 

The idea was to reach 45% but I found myself unable to find the last 2.5%, which led me to looking into incarnates, which had me seeing that Barrier Core Epiphany will always give a minimum of 5% defense even at the very end of the effect , which means I used that as a baseline. 40% is ample enough even if examplared since we can chew on a small purple and amply softcap ourselves. We use Barrier, get our minimum 5% and the big defense and res surplus is all delicious cheese while it lasts.

 

S/L is a second layer of defense, it's not something I would rely on all on itself and its use is, maybe, not all that useful since we are ranged softcap.

 

I would have liked to give *less* recharge to RoA but don't see how to do it and keeps the sets. The reason is that it will only be used with Aim and Upshot (what's upshot? Nothing much, you?) meaning recharging a full 6-7 seconds before those is a complete waste, but I can't seem to make it happen so lets forget about it. In any case recharging every 15 seconds we can fire it a second time even without Aim/Upshot just to clean up and it will be up for the next group.

 

ESD Arrow syncs with the cooldowns. Aim, Upshot, Rain of Arrows, ESD Arrow (half hurt remaining mobs are now *not* alpha-ing us), Fistful of Arrows, Explosive, Fistful.

 

Ice Arrow stacks up with ESD if it's needed. I confess I had Punch muled which gave the same defense but with an extra 6.5% recharge, but a mule is a mule, and Ice Arrow can be stacked with ESD Arrow. We lose the 6.5% recharge, but we got more than enough.

 

Overall I don't feel I have sacrificed much. Everything has good stats, Hasten is perma even without Upshot, we can stack holds, we have a lot of defense. We can also consider ignoring Barrier and picking Clarion to be immune to all CC (mostly) and just munch on the occasional purple to softcap ourselves if we find we have aggro (so, all the time? Blasters, not having aggro, what?). I have done this with other characters but the reason I am not doing so now is because Barrier also gives a *lot* of resistances, and we're aggro machines who will be thankful for it, at least until the two minutes are almost done and we're suddenly going ow ow ow because we were relying on those resistances and they have shrunk.

 

Intuition Partial Radial Revamp seems like a match made in heaven for the build. Extra hold duration (our main/only CC), more range, more 33% damage. Less damage than the 45% of Musculature though, but we don't really use immobilizes (at least Electrified Net is just a mule for me since I'm forced to take it), we don't have defense debuffs, we don't do ToHitdebuffs, so it's all about the extra 8% damage with no other benefits. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

On the other hand the gain from the extra damage seems really minimal since our damage is already way into ED territory (Mids shows RoA going from 1141 without Intuition to 1170 with Intuition), which means perhaps a different incarnate will be more useful.

Two quick questions -

 

1. How often do you find you use ice arrow (in conjunction with ESD)?  I'm thinking of swapping it out for glue arrow.  However that'd change the set bonuses ofc so would have to check that.

 

2. I'm not really sure how -ToHit works, but thoughts on taking flash arrow?  It doesn't aggro mobs, so you can cast it on literally every single mob before you fight.  It has a base of 5% -ToHit, so would that effectively be '5% increased defense'?  Unless of course the mobs naturally have +ToHit, but not sure what mobs have that.

 

I like your build overall!  Mine is very similar.  I'm playing with dipping into the Sorcery pool for Rune of Protection, but no matter what you do you can't make it perma so not sure if it's worth it.  90s of +~20-25% to all resistances is pretty good though, plus mez protection.

I don't actually use Ice Arrow for myself. Once the dust of the AoEs has settled down nothing much is alive, and what is I'm not wasting holds on when I can kill them instead. But I know hold stacking is a time honored blaster tradition, and I had a mule, like I explain in the post. So it was take a mule I'm not going to use, or take Ice Arrow that might come in handy? I went with Ice Arrow.

 

The -ToHit works exactly as you've mentioned, but, again, personally, I'd just launch my nuclear tipped arrow... nukes, and just kill all the things instead.

I have just created a Archery/TA blaster as posted elsewhere on this forum looking for advice on building one. I noticed in your build in Explosive arrow an enhancement Sudden Acceleration: Knockback to Knockdown but I cant find it in MIDS. Where do I get it or how do I make that enhancement? Thanks for the build, I think I've learned a lot by looking at it!

You're welcome :)

 

The easiest way to obtain it is just to hit the Auction House and look for it. Remember you can can turn merits into converters at the rate of one merit for three converters, and each one worth 100k. So a single TF is enough to pay for a Sudden Acceleration, and if you decide to stop playing the character you can always /respec and take the IOs out to either use them on a different character or sell them back.

Why so many slots on brawl so early?

 

No reason behind it. It's not a perfect examplar build where powers and slots are carefully level tailored. It's a level 50 respec aiming for certain figures.

So i am leveling up a archer/TA and are looking at your setup here in mids. Seems like you have a big energy drain with no real end reduction in your powers. 1.98/s.  We do have a pretty nice recovery it seems at 4.52/s.  But do you feel it is enough, since you did not really add any endurance do many of the toggles. ?

I know you wanted the defense shield but if you could live with a resist the aim/upshot/rain of arrows/bonfire combo from around a corner is just hilarious. I'd somehow forgotten until the other day that you can use ground targeted AOEs without line of sight but am using it like mad now.

Archery is cheapo in endurance. It's a matter of trying and seeing how you feel the endurance drain to be a problem or not.

3 seconds to cast Bonfire is glacial. We could make good use of it even so but the mass Hold arrow achieves the same end result of holding everything still while we pewpew, *without* losing defense or 3 second long animations. Personal taste though, and we could argue for your case that 45 seconds of mobs flopping helplessly beats the need for defense 😄
