Ski Chalet operating hours and maybe more

I've always pronounced it "shal-AY" although I don't actually pronounce it with that much emphasis.  AI told me that this is the American pronunciation.  It said that it's different from the British pronunciation of "SHAL-ay."

 

Here's some chalet trivia:

This term refers to a type of wooden house, typically associated with the Alpine region in Europe, characterized by a heavy, gently sloping roof and wide, overhanging eaves set at right angles to the front of the house.

 

Strangely, when I used the $loc feature in front of the entrance to the Ski Chalet in Pocket D, the coordinates returned were glitched.  I mean, I /thumbtack'd the $loc to make sure it was right.  And it never was even close no matter how I twerked to tweak it.

 

The wiki uses this description of the entrance and it's as good as any to help a player find it:

The entrance to the Chalet is a small door found in a rocky outcropping located in the upstairs of the Villain side of Pocket D. The outcropping is easily recognized by the snowdrifts and evergreen trees surrounding it.

 

I bring this up because I've seen an increased interest in accessing it.  New and returning players might not have been informed that the Ski Chalet is open all the time, all the year.  This is a Homecoming thing, I think?

 

To badge the ski slopes, I had to CHEAT LIKE CRAZY!!!!!  I created a second build for my toon with Hover/Fly/Evasive Manuevers.  I gave them all six slots and diversely slotted them.  I probably didn't use more than three slots of each power.  I didn't even bother slotting anything else.  I practiced the slopes many times finding the places I could skip corners, go over, duck, etc.  All with Hover/Fly/EM burning *hot!*  I'm certain I didn't break any records.  But I got all of the badges, baby!

That's because the candy keeper and Father Time are in the lodge within the Ski Chalet. Time sensitive stuff and all that. The skiing is year round, but that's just as "since I'm here" kind of thing. At least, it is for me.

Isn't the candy vendor there all year too? I thought I remembered seeing him selling titles in July last year.

So, yes, he is there year round, but he doesn't sell the holiday badges off-season. He does sell the temp powers like the Frostbite temp.

I find that you only need four things to get all six ski badges at around level 10 or so.

 

Sprint. Athletic Run. Increase Jump Speed (from an Empowerment Buff station), and Increase Run Speed (Likewise).

 

That's it. Maybe it's because I spend too much time in Mario Kart, but these four are enough for gold on the advanced slope.

Since the Chalet is open all year 'round at this point, maybe it is time to go ahead and put a base portal in the Chalet itself (maybe on the ground floor away from Father Time and the Vendor NPC) with a related teleporter beacon for bases.

Its SkiFree which came as part of some early version of windows (I want to say my first experience was windows 3.1)
