I would love to use Earth Control/Seismic Blast. Nothing like locking down everything then dropping a Meteor on them. It won't happen because that would break all balance in the game. But it is nice to think about.

Looking for help getting started with controllers.
Tacheyon replied to duckman's topic in Controller
Starting a Controller. Welcome to being the most invisible (unless you pick Earth Control) but important role of any team. Your powers will help keep MOBs in killing (err arresting) fields for AOE, debuff them or just salvage a bad pull and prevent a wipe. My go to power set is Earth Control. You have a great mix of soft control Quicksand (AOE Slow and -Def field), Earthquake (that one annoying power Ruin Mages use in Posi 1 to make you miss everything) and Stalgmites (AOE Stun). To Hard Controls like Volcanic Gases (a pulsing AOE hold field), Stone Cages, and Fossilize. You also have one of the most tanky pet in game (outside Phantom Army) in Animate Stone (aka Mr. Poo aka Stoney). Who can also do some nice damage especially depending on your secondary. The trade off is that Earth Control is one of the lest damaging power sets in game. So getting Arcane Bolt as early as you can helps a lot (especially when it crits and you use it on a CC'd mob for triple damage). So pairing it up with a more damaging Secondary if you plan on soloing (like Storm, Traps). Or if you plan on teaming mostly then you can use Dark, TA (that will give you obscene amounts of control), Rad, Poison, Nature. Earth is so flexible you can pair it with almost anything. For and Epic/Patron pool pick I'd go with either Stone (Seismic smash is your target power there, but all of them give you nice overlap with your primary) or Leviathan (Water Spout shreds everything and is on a decent timer). Whatever you choose have fun with one of the most unique AT/classes in MMO's ever. -
How?!?! There are 1000 slots per server...after 3.5 years of playing I have only hit 150 and only 3/4 of those are 50's. And that is with deleting a bunch of dead combos and stupid character concepts. Did you just go and make every single combo (or close to) at random? Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I am attacking your playstyle, my head just can't wrap around it.

Have you looked at Earth or Illusion yet? Earth has so much control (even though a lot it are patches which don't get Domination). And I am not sure about Illusion. I have a Earth/Earth that is really strong and has a lot of SMASH potential. Also have you looked at Elec/Martial. A little synergy at first glance in that.

They are Legendary...so it's L.M.A.O!!!

Turn your particle and effects count to near zero and your graphics setting to medium. That might help....might. MSR is one of those instances where no matter how good your computer is, it will be a slideshow or at least choke on how much it has to process.

Having your Arsonist ignite your Oil Slick Arrow with his Molotov for a double burn field is a thing of beauty. Would you mind posting your build please (if possible). I am looking to update mine (haven't since the power pick shuffle).
-
Poison and Sonic are also good with Thugs as you can use the Bruiser as an anchor for a few of the powers on each of those sets.

Hi Everybody! I was playing my Earth/Storm character and realized I hadn't updated it in a while (loosing a lot of powers on those TFs). And I noticed that there doesn't appear to be anything in the forums for the last 8 months. So I threw together a cheap build that looks like it could work. I didn't bother maxing out positional defense as between Earthquake and Hurricane (yes I took it very late) that will cover what I am missing. If someone has a suggestion to make it better, as I am not an expert on builds (although not a total noob) I would appreciate the input. Origin choice doesn't really matter like it did at the beginning in Live. There you had different contacts to start as well as you could only go to certain vendors to buy your DO's and SO enhancements. Now it's mostly if it fits your theme/ character backstory. And Traps is still a really good set for MM's (and all AT's who can use it). You have everything you need to take on AV's even especially paired with Thugs. The only thing is that because the guide is from May 2022 it probably isn't made for the power level selection change that came with the last patch in October(?). You can just play around with when you pick your powers so you can get your fully upgraded pets sooner.

You are looking for this. Not sure if it's Page 5 optimized. But it looks like a monster.

This is the best place to get information on builds. You don't even have to think about anything. This person does random builds that are a very good place to start. Just use ones that are from Oct 2022 forward (as that was the last major patch). Also Sentinels are not "weak", sure their damage isn't scaled to a Blasters but it isn't that bad, especially with the survivability they get in return. Also their inherent ability got changed last patch as well. You now have a button (like Domination) you can click once your Opportunity bar is full that weakens a MOB up to 25% Def and Res. So you don't need to take both T1 and T2 powers on your primary. Corruptors are just a more offensively based Defender. Their support powers are less "supportive" but they get Scourge which is a fancy way of saying doing double damage once a MOB is lower than 30% health. Which is why people play them with a secondary like Storm as the final two powers bring some heavy damage. I don't play too many Defenders but basically if you are solo (or small team) you get a damage buff. But if you are on a large team you get more of a Endurance Discount the greater your team is close to defeat. (just reading that off Mids). At the end of the day this game isn't about being the top 0.05% that can clear every single piece of content solo without face planting. Heck a lot of people laugh when they die because they get to work on their Debt Badge. True, always faceplanting is not fun but that comes down to learning your character and they powers you have, and in a team what your role is. Also you should not be anxious to play anything. This game gives you 1000 character slots per server. I have gotten up to 140 characters over the close to 4 years I have played Homecoming. And that doesn't include the ones I purged because I didn't like the play style. I make characters based on a concept I have in my brain. Or sometimes the power selection makes my concept. But I'd rather play a character that is sub-optimal but with a fleshed out idea than a min/max one that is just "Captain Super-guy". Find what works for you. There are plenty of AT's and combos that start off very slow (Contollers, Doms, MM's) but can be forces of Nature (literally) once you get them to 50 and put some love into them. Just take a breath, and have some fun, this game's community is amazing. And that is why a lot of people have stayed with this game since 2004.

Thank you for all your help and advice especially @Zect. That is quite an in depth and detailed review. I have a bit of reading and thinking to do. My chief goal of this build was to get something better than I have now, as I took most of the primary powers to get a feel for them. Heck I do like Fire Breath but I can admit it takes a little too long to animate for the damage it produces. I was just throwing a bunch of things that looked "good". Yeah, that is a carry over from main-ing Controllers since Launch. The more options you have to keep an enemy in place away from you is a good thing. Especially as with this combo you want things in your burn patches for as long as possible. But I probably will drop ESD Arrow as between Bonfire and Glue Arrow I should have "enough" control to last for what a Blaster's Primary purpose is. To drop things...fast. It's a different mindset for sure. I really appreciate the advice, thank you for your time!

I don't have a lot of experience with Blasters. Mostly with Controllers/Doms & MM's. But I do like Tactical Arrow as it's similar to Trick Arrow (just more offensive and less debuffs). I have been leveling a Fire/TA to take advantage of Rain of Fire and Oil Slick (hell I can use Fireball and Bonfire as well to ignite it). I am looking for a endgame build and I have rough draft. But I wouldn't mind if someone could rip it apart and give me some idea on a proper build. Had to put down a Nemesis Invasion (or was it?) before I was able to drop my $15 USD after missing last month.
-
Also Burnout is a thing that some people use (Thugs MM for one). To get to that power I am not taking Flurry.
-
Do you feel compelled to use a particular buff/debuff powerset as a Defender, Corruptor, Controller, or Mastermind? Do you find a blast powerset works better as a Sentinel, Blaster, or Corruptor? What about armor sets? Melee? Ever since Live I have loved Earth Control as a Primary power. I have made pretty much all combinations possible. Not all have been personal favourites, but most have offered different playstyles to keep them around. My favourite combos are /Storm, /TA, /Poison and /Nature. Each one offers a difference in Damage (Storm), Support (Nature), Pure Debuff (Poison) and Control (TA). When I make other Controllers I do tend to use those Secondaries as well. When I play MM's (my other go to AT), I am partial to /Traps, /Dark and /Nature and /EA to help support my pets and keep them alive either through either mitigating damage through heals or making sure my enemy is too weak to do anything. But I mostly create combos (although I don't duplicate) that match whatever concept I have in my brain at the moment. What powerset combinations keep your attention? My "mains" are MM's Demon/EA, Thugs/Traps, Mercs/Nature, Ninja/Storm, Demon/Dark Controllers Earth/Storm, Earth/TA, Fire/Poison, Ill/Storm, Earth/Nature

/EA is a busy set, but it does bring a ton of tankiness to all pets. Between Heals, Absorb shields and +Res Bubble and a END recharger your pets can keep going, and going and going....etc. True it does lack in debuffs such as -tohit, -def and -res. But you can floor a MOBS end bar so they can't do anything to you anyway. It's a set that you outlast your enemy and not just beat them down. I just wish the Devs could fix the T9 power so it actually works on pets.

Seekers are a keeper for me as they are great opening at taking an Alpha. Poison Trap (Traps version) is the strongest -regen debuff in the game so that is also a must (to me). Now that you can take the 2nd power in your Secondary at lv 1 Web is skippable. And never take Time Bomb...at least with Ranged pets. Sometimes I take it on the Thugs to use on my Brusier but that's a case by case situation.

Don't sleep on Fire/Poison/ Soul or Leviathan. Running Hot feet and Venomous Gas is END heavy (although you can use Alpha-Cardiac to ease that). Also pretty easy on power choices as a few Poison powers are skippable. But with Envenom and Weaken you can make pretty much everyone around you a kitten to be kicked around by your Imps (if you are a villain). Poison Trap is a great nuke when loaded with procs. All in all a great Melee type Controller.

I splurged and dropped double my usual amount (which in CAD exchange is a lot more) because Page 5 was quite a game changer. So thank you for all your hard work.

Doesn't that just effect your powers and not the pets? Or is it the same as musculature?

Mids hasn't been updated yet with all the changes so even posting a new build would be hard. And quite honestly aside from using personal attacks to increase crit chance you could just leave your build alone and try it. The only major thing from respeccing is getting some of the T8 and T9 powers earlier.

Well a guy can dream right? 😁 Even a 15%-20% reduction, if you use it repeatedly is still a significant savings.
