This is pretty important. Sure Brutes can tank, but many Brute players just wanna smash things. "tanking" is just as secondary effect of their play style.. If you want someone who will actively try to protect the group, then your odds are better with an actual Tanker.
-
That's just it. When people say "Brutes make Tanks obsolete" they are generally referring to very niche situations. End game Brutes, running meta secondaries, decked to the gills in IOs, incarnates, and a few juicy defenders tagging along. Until they reach that point there tends to be a noticeable gap in survivability.

This. I don't really like the Reveal power because the 'Fog of War' on the map lets me know where I haven't been yet.
-
I would personally put Active Defense on auto.. If it expires, and you forget to click it.. You may very well end up eating pavement.. Whereas if you forget to re-activate Hasten, you'll just feel a bit sluggish until you realize it needs to be activated!

Please, please a better Minimal FX for Ice Epic Pool Armor

An Old Argument - ability to self cast ‘ally only’ buffs
Primantis replied to Peacemoon's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
It would quickly turn Empathy into a very valid Solo Defender, I'll tell you that much! They could cast AB on themselves, which would then make AB perma, also making hasten perma; pretty much out of the box. So that's essentially a perma 170% Recharge buff, 1000% Regen and endless Endurance! Power Boost + Fort = 35-37%ish Defense to all, along with huge +to-hit and hefty +dmg! CM would counter those pesky mezzers! Last, but certainly not least, Absorb Pain would cause an infinite loop and crash the servers! *The ultimate power*! -
Yes that's it thank you! Cant believe I missed that xD

There was a discussion between some Council mooks (I believe). It involved Strawberry Ice cream... It was pretty funny but I don't remember how it went, as its been so long. Someone help me out!

Teleportation Rework would be awesome.
Primantis replied to ScarySai's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I agree 100% If they took away the whole "Wind up" animation and the teleport was nearly instant, that would be a fantastic change! -

I was going to mention this but you beat me to it! Travel back in time to when CoH was being developed, around 2001-2002ish? The average user had either a 56k (Dial-Up), or a 128k DSL connection. With some lucky few having quicker cable access of course. Computers we're obviously much weaker, Pentium 3/4s were probably the norm. Them at their AMD equivalents. So I feel like they made TP sluggish based on latency and performance issues. Not only do the servers have to sync up each time a person teleports (multiplied by number of users using it), but instantly loading a huge chunk of previously-unloaded geometry and textures each teleport would play havoc with systems at the time. You could potentially teleport, get "load locked" then fall to your doom (as Teleport did not have the "Hover Patch" at launch, that was added in a later patch) Latency in MMOs was such a huge problem in the early 2000s that even WoW had to mitigate it somehow. With the now-much-abused "Leeway" system, that let melee characters still attack even when their target was well out of range. They didn't want there to be combat problems when character locations weren't accurately synced client vs server. (IE the player sees the character in melee range, but they actually aren't) Champion's Online even opted to go an entirely different route with Teleport. Instead making it a weird hybrid of super-fast ethereal flight that you had to keep going back into, as you would pop out of it every 5 seconds or so. That being said, times have changed. Hardware has improved, and the game is ancient. Perhaps these issues are now antiquated so a rework of TP, if possible, would be quite nice imo. -
I do too! However, depending on the situation, taking too much time typing your message could potentially lose you the spot if its a hot run.. So I understand why some people don't do it. I had a radio mission fill up today in roughly 30 seconds. With some late comers who missed the spots because they had nicely worded sentences. I did make sure to get back to them when new spots opened up though! I tend to be quick yet cordial, with something like "I'll join please". As for as my ignore habits go... People have to be pretty downright intolerable in order for me to actually /ignore them. I'll usually just stop reading their chat during the team and pretend they don't exist.. However if I'm on my support toons and they are in trouble, I'm also less inclined to do anything to help them xD

This, I can only think of one MMO that held my attention for any reasonable amount of time after CoH officially ended.. And even that was mostly due to my guild (and even then, it was only 3-4 months) I love the accessibility, I love the people, I love the ability to play casual or semi-casual, I love the costume creator and I especially love the endless amount of potential character builds and the AT system. That stuff really gets my brain juices flowin. I find the typical "Each class gets exactly the same stuff" boring as all heck.
-
I run up to them and try to negotiate using /em lecture. Upon my inevitable failure I haul my squishy ass back to my team and run behind the tank. Or I faceplant, depends on the NPC's mood.

Defenders and Corruptors are easily my favorite AT's in this game! However, lately I find myself solely making Defenders.. Which is *not* a knock against Corruptors. It just boils down to preferences. In my experience the biggest difference in the two is asking ones' self "Do I want to get my support powers first, or my attacks first?" Well I really love the support in this game, so I almost always answer that question with "Support powers first". Now this isn't a huge deal if you shoot to 50 and never exemp. However a Kin with FS makes a huge difference in those low 30 something TFs. Along with many other key abilities from other power sets. Once you hit 38+ I feel they are virtually interchangeable for all but the most min-max minded people. Corruptors are a bit squishier, deal a tad more damage (almost soley due to Scourge), and bring marginally weaker buffs/debuffs. But not enough to really notice in actual game play. Solo wise I believe they are about even for most builds. Defender's +30% dmg inherent along with higher buff/debuff numbers equalizes damage, except for EBs/AVs (and perhaps bosses) where Scourge really shines. While Corrs will still be slightly squishier due to weaker armor values. The recent fix to various "Rain" powers also reigned them in a tad. Both double scourge and improper AT modifiers were fixed iirc. Now, there are some outliers.. Cold Dom's "Sleet" is equal for both classes for example, which would give Corruptor the damage edge. Higher damage caps also let them leverage their own FS more effectively (Although it does take two applications, so it's a ramp-up routine). Dark was recently fixed, but I'm sure there's a few more. (Do storm psuedo summons do the same damage on both ATs?) To summarize, I think Corruptors are very well off! They along with Defenders feel almost perfectly balanced to me. They can be very powerful, but it takes attention, knowledge, and a good build. Get sloppy and you'll face plant. Helping to keep things stimulating. They bring a ton to the table and will always be a valued addition to a team! A+++ would roll again.

Can we make Hurricane's tics more often again? So a minion cant run right through me whenever they have an urgent need to visit the restroom.

Aug 26, a classic mmorpg releases. How will
Primantis replied to wjrasmussen's topic in General Discussion
You also had BWL and Naxx. Naxx itself is going to be a huge draw, as very few classic players even *saw* Vanilla Naxx (and even less cleared it). Between it being incredibly difficult and coming out so close to TBC's release. Then later on there will be AQ20/40 along with the server event to open the doors to the raid. Then you have actual PvP Ranks that you had to uphold if you were into that sort of thing. Being Warlord etc was quite prestigious, but if you slacked for too long someone would usurp you. (Granted these probably won't be released until some time after classic launches. However a content drought happens at the beginning of every expansion. Also consider Blueing up for said Raids takes much longer than it did in later expansions) -
The game wont let you slot them into Swift afaik, so they'll have to go into Sprint. The Stealth will always be on so long as you have Sprint on, when you turn off Sprint it will de-activate the stealth. In my experience (even though it says "Lasts for 120 seconds") it shuts off the stealth as soon as you disable Sprint. The Stealth also makes you semi-transparent, yes. Not quite as profound as the power pool variant but it's noticeable. The power of the stealth itself is also less potent but gives you a noticeable edge in avoiding aggro.

It was the wild west of CoH!

I had someone TP me out of bounds in a shop once. I couldn't move and they would only TP me back out if I gave them some cold hard INF. I told em to 'suck on a Freakshow', and got someone in my SG to help out. This was back in like i1 or so xD

Primantis replied to wjrasmussen's topic in General Discussion
Don't feel too bad, I initially did that with Everquest xD To make things worse, I didn't even have an internet connection at the time! Tis' what I get for randomly buying cheapo games at Wal-Mart. -

Primantis replied to wjrasmussen's topic in General Discussion
Very nice! That reminds me.. On launch day my brother picked up a standard edition of WoW from Wal-Mart. Came home, installed it.. and low-and-behold the CD Key was buggered and it registered as a Collectors Edition! So he got the little in game perks for that while only buying a standard edition. XD -

Word is we're getting the final Classic patch 1.12. So some of the classic QoL additions will be there. Now this is not the pre-TBC patch. Shammies won't have dual wield or Earth Shield, etc. And yes, you could skip every dungeon and every elite quest and still hit level cap within a reasonable amount of time. It might have involved a bit more grinding, but it was still very realistically achievable. The secret was doing content for every zone, not just your race's zones. Hit a wall in Loch Modan? Go visit the Human zones, it's just a tram-ride away. Once those are finished there's a few Night Elf zones as well. Even if the content was "Green", you zoomed right through it and it was very much worth doing. Horde were stuck in the barrens for a long time, or you could venture out to the Forsaken's zones for a nice change of pace. You were not shoehorned into one story line and exploring paid off via streams of new content to conquer. Everything was just far away enough to make it feel like a journey but not so far away to make it feel really tedious.. Granted the game I played before hand was FFXI, where it could take upwards of an hour for a boat ride between hubs if your timing was bad. So my perspective on "Time Sink" was a bit skewed. -
And that's what I get for Foruming at 4 AM. xD

https://forums.homecomingservers.com/status/ That's all you need to judge the player population xD I check it routinely, and I can tell you that during the day there's a nice healthy pop. But around 10 PM PST it starts to nose dive from 1k~ to 200~ pretty rapidly. Picking back up again around early morning. Now this 100% to be expected. (Numbers are Blueside btw)

One thing I've seen used on other private servers is a kind of "grading" system that the mods themselves do. Essentially they read the overall feedback on the suggestion. Then bump it to the appropriate sub forum. Which were "Approved" and "Denied". If the topic was still in the parent Suggestion forum than the subject was still being discussed. Approved meant the devs themselves said "Ya we want to do that" and the community also voted favorably. It did not guarantee the suggestion would ever come to fruition, but the devs at least thought favorably of it. Denied meant that either the devs said no, the community voted against it, or it was plain impossible.
