  1. Well, Voltaic Sentinel was turned into a toggle, which is the only way it's permanent (and which still annoys me, frankly) - it wasn't permanent before. Making the other two toggles would work, too, since they're not really "pets" like, say, Jack Frost or other control set pets. They're more mobile gadgets.
  2. I'm assuming they don't because they're in hazard zones - nobody there to "report" them.
  3. I participate in them... eh, less, these days. Steel Canyon fires are fun with a water or ice user, since you don't have to deal with the backpack. (And occasionally finding *that* spot that doesn't get affected by the blast, if you're not there right away or not quick enough.) The Zig escape would be more fun if it weren't so easy to *break* by having a mob (typically a Freakshow) run off and get lost/killed outside the "event zone" so it needs to be reset. Have the PPD "put up a containment field" or something. The Syndicate takedown's at least ... involved. (I'm not fond of the interior portion, but... eh. Mostly a matter of the maps.) It's a reasonable event. The ghoul one is... meh. So's the protest. Stand in place and hit things. The shining stars/paladin ... thing... I think they disabled, going back to the (more fun, IMHO) old paladin event. Honestly, this one I *like* somewhat because you have some control over it... IF you can find the construction. It's a little tedious just continually fighting the construction and bringing it down, sure, but it feels like you're more in control. Plus a badge for that. And if you don't get there, well, GM and merits. (Should probably be a merit reward for stopping the construction, too. It's a time sink and nobody would feel "cheated" out of 6 merits for stopping it.) Clues for where it is should be given, though. The troll rave is ... eh... there and done, and done by sleeping through it if you're past its level. Plus the Supa Trolls just sort of ... mill around. They should be *doing something.* The ghost ship... more should be done with. I mean, it's a ship... that drops ghosts. That are only really worth fighting in a small level range, outside of which they're either too tough or easy-grey. It could use a revamp. (The same's true with the ghost trapping redside, but with more annoyance as they run out of the range of the ghost trap - or that trap's range is so frigging short, even if you have someone with taunt.) GMs are ... honestly just boring. Get team, punch for two minutes, get 6 merits. (yes, I know, 10 for adamastor.) Every time I see someone suggest a new GM, I just kind of yawn about another bag of HP. There's nothing interesting to them other than getting a badge and merits. I'd like some of the events to at least *lead to* something. They should be able to be soloed - or at least solo completed on hitting 2-3 of them, if they have some number of mobs. Have the Supa Trolls attack something in a way that seems directed. Get clues, when they get put together, talk to Mynx - if you put them together right, get a special mission arc to investigate this altered 'dyne or something. Which also means you'd have to decide if you're dealing with the rave itself or following the STs. The Ghost Ship's got lore behind it which is just ignored. It should lead to *something* about the Moraine. Unlock an Ouro arc that sends you back to when it was lost, maybe multiple arcs dealing with what Mayor Spanky's up to on the side,, *something* more than "punch a bunch of (probably grey) ghosts to get a badge."

  5. No, I was listing story arc mission givers, not the repeatable, who has nothing really to do with what's going on in the zone.
  6. So your zone-arc-mission givers: David Wincott - Fairly quick and easy mission. There were some ... spoilers? Easter eggs? of things that were planned that never got into the game in one of the missions. When you're recovering artifacts, they include: - Worn Tome: Worn and moldy tome, strange red text in Russian. Not sure what this was to be, if anything. - Strange skull - similar to a human skull, but fragile bones. This was a nod to a canceled EAT, the Avilians, which were going to be how they gave players winged characters (until they figured out how to do wings as back items) - Coral bracelet - pointing to the Coralax, who were *also* supposed to be an EAT. (If you play Striga, the 5th Column/Council hijack a ship with scientists who recovered the body of "something" from the ocean. This was going to be a companion/servant race, the Virtea.) Flux - Honestly, mostly remembered for the Frostfire mission. And that mission's remembered for letting you go ice skating. Julius the Troll - Little more information on Wincott's son, mostly. Talshak - Atta's mission. Also used to be the unlock (through Karsis) for the zone trial, IIRC. So, yeah. Nothing was taken out (and I do see LFG posts for Hollows mission teams, so... *shrug*)

  8. Way too overpowered. Remove a sprint? What else are powers supposed to do *but* creep then? Geez. 😉 (Yeah. Think it's been asked for before. Wouldn't be a bad idea.)

  11. Hmmm. ITF, eh, sure. Yin, when I want something short. I'd put Katie on the list, as 10 times the victor *could* be interesting, but it's also what makes it not, as you just sort of stay in about the same spot and punch things in that same mission, which makes it drag. Pretty much anything that's not a speedrun, though that's more a team than TF thing. Honorable mention to Eden for the gorgeous and criminally underused environment.
  12. The available options are perfectly sufficient. People do them all the time - and are even less restricted now with 1000 slots. This is a want, not a need. (Which is not, before you jump all over this, denigrating the idea. Saying "I want" or "this would be nice" is perfectly fine, and part of the purpose of this section of the forum. But portraying this as any sort of need or thing to be fixed... no. Also, saying "I don't want to do that" does not mean the options available are insufficient. It just means (generic) you don't want to do that.)

  14. Quite a bit was ditched (including aiming at body parts and freeform power selection.) Origins determined (from what I recall seeing) both how many powers you could take and how far you could extend them. (Hinted at a bit here for instance where some origins have a broader range of abilities, while others can develop them more.) Still suspect this is part of where origin got "baked in" to where it's unchangeable. As far as the original question? - Move it forward 20-30 years. - Keep enhancements, tweak the system a bit to deal with some of the silliness and give more flexibility in effects. - Move it *out* of just the locations we have - let us move to deal with both the aftereffects of what happened in COH 1 around (and off) the world. Did the power wake something in Egypt, Mesoamerica, the Antarctic? ... honestly, basically keep some of the happy mistakes that were made by a design team that in many instances were winging it early on in a new studio, refine what needs refining, make it more easily moddable, enhance player creativity by making bases (for instance) even easier and less hacky to do great things with... Oh, and fire whoever designed the office buildings and find someone familiar with... I don't know, architecture and physics.
  15. Yeah... there are, apparently, things like that throughout the game. I seem to recall a discussion where there's a line of something with a note "Don't disable this, or it'll break things, we don't know why" or something similar.
  16. Hmm. I like zones that just ... work well as themselves, versus trying to cram a bunch of different things into one zone. The zone itself shouldn't try to fight you - it can be difficult to get around to a point, sure, as long as it fits, versus just being a pain. For instance, I think redside should have been far more zones. St. Martial's a great example of this... we go from Vegas-y glitz to hovels to forest to the Carnie ... area in just an incredibly *tiny* area for all that. It's just a mess. it should have either been bigger to let everything really *establish* itself and get some space, or have been multiple zones. Favourite zones? I loved old / Echo Dark Astoria. Yes, even with my first character - and one who spent a lot of time there - being a teleporter. It had atmosphere, the vanishing civilians and commentary from ghosts who didn't know what was going on, etc were just *great.* The new one... eh. Works, I guess, but it lost a lot, to me. I tend to like Croatoa, as well - plenty of room for the whole storyline to develop, as well as room to explore while feeling cohesive. Least, aside from St. Martial, would have to be the goldside "underground." It's too large with nothing going on and rather annoying to get around. It's a boring travel-time-waster. I don't go down there unless I have to. Even the blueside sewers are better - they're interesting to get around, and the abandoned sewers have atmosphere, again, where you *feel* like you're getting deeper into a forgotten part of the city. As for a new zone? If I *had* to stay in the city, versus some of the things I've wanted to see (expanding into the rest of the world - desert ruins, exotic jungles, snowscapes, etc.) it'd probably be something more obviously residential or even suburban. We know these have to exist, there are apartments here and there, but there's nothing about "daily life" - or that life bein ginterrupted, or the people trying to live it fighting back.

  18. Couldn't honestly say. That said, (A) I recall the "high rez" faces being panned as being "odd looking" - and not in the same way as some of the classic faces. They're somewhat jarring (though I've used them in the past,) and (B) "High rez" textures when we still have blocky mittens for hands, well... 😉 Of course, there's also the issue of doing something like that changing how they look - and changing how an established character looks. Some people wouldn't care, granted, but others will get *really* annoyed if it looks like you've switched their Darrens without asking by doing something like this.
  19. Not sure if at *all* possible, but - I'd love to have split (and persistent) body emotes. What do I mean? - Lower body emote - sit, stand, tap foot, etc. - Upper body emote - explain, drink, eat, etc. And persistent in that you could "lower body sit" (by default would just do the whole "sit" emote, perhaps) and then upper-body explain - oh, here's food - drink, eat, victory, while remaining seated.

  21. The live devs (with all the tools to do this... more easily) mentioned that the work that went into just what MMs got was as much or more than an entire other set. (Not to mention issues with, say, ideas for whips grabbing/wrapping around targets.) As far as sets... I agree with "non flashy single gun" (or even double. I mean, again, MMs, temp powers...) but mine's not a powerset. I want to see the Blood of the Black Stream EAT. (And associated storylines, baddies, etc.) But those are a ton of work. Especially since they were supposed to be shapeshifters, or at least conceptualized as shapeshifters.
  22. I don't *dis*sagree, but on the other hand, it's not like the various damage forms (for the most part) were hurting for sets, either, before purples, winter or PVP sets. De/Buffs are fairly overlooked, at least VR side (though represented PVP wise, as I recall) - though I don't think defense needs all that much help getting ridiculous, or that we need that many *more* ways to stack ridiculous recharge in the quest for Perma-Everything. I don't recall if i suggested it or if it was just a thought kicking around in my head, but I wouldn't mind "summer sets" either. Same rarity as winter (and I think thematically healing would be a fine one to start off with,) and - though it's added complexity - having some sort of interaction with the winter set of the same sort, if it exists. Treats the same piece on the "other" side (say, an acc/dam) as unique, so you have to choose, and maybe pulls a PVP so if you have some balance of summer and winter in a power, other aspects are unlocked - set bonuses, effects, something.
  23. So, things tried: - New install in c:\games (new directory) - no change in behaviour. - Virus/malware scans, of course. Clean. - Download a fresh copy of the launcher. For some reason I couldn't on this PC... which is odd. Just got download failed. - Download on another PC, copy to this one, run - no change. - Noted games directory (which only had HC in it...) was read only. Unselected that for it and all subfolders - no change. - Tried running as admin, both the installer and the launcher - no change. (Noting that none of these "installs" created a desktop icon.) - Installed to another drive (d:\games) - subfolder created, desktop icon created. Launched, logged in, logged off. Relaunch launcher - kept the settings. Copied Accounts, architect/costume folders over - relaunch - kept the settings. So I'm not sure what happened with that other install location.
  24. No effect with a reboot. Also not affecting the desktop.
