  1. The folks who are a part of this community who spend their free time testing and restesting incremental changes to improve the balance of PvP encounters deserve a tip of the hat. It's not an easy task as it's been made to seem in this thread, it's not a click or exclusive group. Literally folks who know a lot about how the game's mechanics work and have the capacity and interest to get groups together to test out changes in different environments like zone or arena. Perhaps if you elect to contribute to this process, you'll find the improvement you're seeking.

One is local cell tower-based, one is satellite-based. 😉   Though the handheld...well, now that I see it up close, I'm thinking the AN/PRC-6 "Handie Talkie" of the Korean War was smaller than that monstrosity.

Right! I'm thinking that sucker weighs at least 20lbs - not to mention the fact that satellite phones are now as small as a normal cellphone (though they still have those long antennas lol). I feel bad for the radio operator who has to lug two of those things around for the boss, along with extra batteries, antennas, and a spare hand mike in case the buttons get stuck. Nevermind the fact that the sweet looking headset with antenna and extended microphone could probably get the job done by itself!

Is there a way to reset this in game or out? I tried to do it at the log in screen with the settings but it did not work. There really isn't an option for it but I unclicked then clicked the automatic resize option and that did nothing. This screwup only applies to one character.

Edit: Oops! When I read the title and respond before reading the message 😅

  4. This occurs across alignments, as I understand it the game some how checks for that, then if your character doesn't align with the requirements it ports you to a default zone. A bug from a year ago allowed any level character with a no longer ingame teleport power to return to zones like Precinct Five, Destroyed Galaxy City, and Outbreak & Breakout after leaving it.

  5. Season finale!

    Spoiler

Wow a lot to digest. Mixture of the character Kang's variant with the fellow at the end of time. Not sure what the threshold was that was crossed, lots of interesting things that me being an average viewer (someone without an encyclopedic understanding of Marvel's publications) will find go over the head. The Miss Minutes bit was funny, sort of like a "boo! gotcha" scene. The He Who Remains guy/Kang was a complicated character. I'm interested in hearing from others on this front.

All said, great episode and I am liking the direction that Marvel/Disney are taking on the multiverse war bit tying in to new and old variations of characters (looking at Fantastic Four specifically - there's been a bunch of remakes that can be pulled in to or at least explained away as being part of a larger MCM 'Marvel Cinematic MULTI-verse' instead of the MCU.

This, and you’ll need a TP self power (Mystic Flight’s Translocation works well) and, at least for me, you’ll need to orient yourself EXACTLY underneath the hole and then scroll in camera so you are effectively in First Person view mode.  Without doing those two things I couldn’t aim my reticle through the hole.

I had an alt with TP self but found that from floor you can’t quite get the reticle to aim outside the hole.

Huh I guess I've done it so much I haven't had any problems. Thanks for the heads up!

I think these were all there back on Live, but I've also just discovered how to get outside Pocket D and visit the Tardis, Manny's Gas Station and the two motherships.  In fact, although there's not much reason to, you can get inside of Manny's Gas Station.  I like to think of it as my secret base.

I also show in my video how to hit the bottom of the Pocket D zone, for say, if you want to grab a cool screenshot of the zone or something.

There is obviously an issue if this topic comes up a lot.  The solution you twi are advocating is already in game and is not seen as optimal by many players, hence the suggestion.  Not sure why you guys are opposed to a solution that would be more optimal.  It's not like the people here are saying people with Group Fly are bad, they are just suggesting alternative solutions to going to Pocket D and Null the Gull.

On another note, I'm sure a lot of people do not even know about Null the Gull.  I was certainly late to knowing about it and it had to be explained to me.  Now I know, but do I want to take all my characters to Null the Gull?  Nope.

Why not add it to the P2W vendor?  I bet almost all new characters go to the P2W vendor, so this would be a good option.  Pick your prestige powers, XP settings, and Null options all at the same time.  Solves a lot of the problems, although as @Greycat pointed out it won't solve all the concerns.

Show me these "many players" and I'll show them all the same response. There is already a way to address these concerns, players just need to use it. Advocating for anything else is a waste of volunteer time in my opinion.

I downloaded it, created a few gifs, but they are HUGE.  Will have to keep playing with it to figure out how to reduce file size.

The trick I found is to delete similar frames. You can choose to delete frames that are up to 95% similar. That, and making the clip 4 to 5 seconds.

Is there a “how to make a GIF loop of costume video for forums for dummies” guide somewhere?

I downloaded a program on my Windows computer called ScreenToGif which is a very user friendly way to capture on screen content and turn it in to a .gif

It even lets users delete extra frames of short clips, so that files can be compressed down to smaller sizes. So a 5 second clip might hit somewhere between 2MBs and 4MBs.

I wanted to share a few thoughts I had on Homecoming.  As a quick history, I’m a big COH fan from long back.  I played back from Beta, was a huge participant in the forums back in the day… heck, I was so involved I once even won one of the contests they had.  (I made the “freak and ye shall find” movie that wound up on City of Villains)

So I’m a fan… this isn’t a gripe post.  I spent years trying to find CoH, hoping there would be fan servers after the shut down, and when I found it again about a month ago, I immediately jumped in and have enjoyed it as much as I ever have.  Wish I had heard about it sooner.

But there have been some changes, and they have altered the game significantly.  The first part is the community itself.  People have changed drastically.  Abbreviations are more commonly used now in gamer parlance, and these are NOT newbie friendly.  Every time I see yet another broadcast for “Posi1 TF LF3M” or “SBB”… I think of the damage these do to newbies.  One of the things I always liked about CoH was the community – it was so newbie friendly, so welcoming and someone could jump in and find comrades almost instantly.  Not so much now.  Now you’re more likely to be turned away from a group because you’re not the right level and they didn’t bother say that on the broadcast… or wind up joining a task force only to find out that the heroes aren’t actually playing the game, they’re trying to skip past all the content and you’re stuck standing at the door.

There was some of this in the past of course… truth be told it was the reason I never cared for CoV as much as CoH.  The community was worse.  I remember people… farming.  Seems crazy to farm a game when you can play through content instead, but in CoV they’d farm missions.  Start one, go through most of it… everyone leave, reset the mission and repeat.  I learned quickly they were not newbie friendly.  But now that is kind of everywhere.

The people still playing the game are still there of course, it’s only about half the populace who seems to be trying to game the system instead of play the game.  Perhaps that is inevitable due to how people play games these days.

And the second part… which I think feeds the first are all the “quality of life” improvements.  I recognize these weren’t generally done by the homecoming team, they were a lot of changes when CoH went free to play…  Being able to level incredibly fast… and then for no drawback double that rate.  Travel powers at level 4 instead of 14.   Being able to teleport from one zone to another without ever really seeing any of them through supergroup portals or Ouroboros at level 1.  Being able to pick up an additional 3 powers right at level one.  These things make the game easier.  Faster.  But meanwhile… the journey is somewhat lost.  I have fond memories of exploring King’s Row… trying to get to the rooftops to take out Circle of Thorns rituals – but no new player would ever do that.  They’d just fly up.

The game was SO clever.  A new player would likely never see the details as they’re skipping past them.  They might never know there are fire escapes to climb up… or that you can stand on window ledges and jump to the top of almost any building in the Row.  Or that when fighting Vahlizok.. you can kill the doctors and then run away and the zombies themselves become mindless and stop chasing you (and won’t team up either, they’ll only defend themselves without the doctors around).  They’ll probably miss that stuff if for no other reason the leveling is so fast they’re only fighting Vahlizok for an hour and then moving to the next villain group.

I’m writing this to try to get other people’s observations.  Have you noticed the same things?   Have you noticed positive aspects of these changes?  Obviously if the game were the way it was back in Beta then few people would play it now, as games and the expectations thereof have changed drastically, I’m certainly not pitching for that… or anything else.  Just wondering if others had similar experiences when exploring homecoming, what else they found, and what they’ve done to mitigate the drawbacks.

These are fair observations of an evolving game and community, especially since you say you've been attached to the game for so long back on legacy. Luckily, for everyone here on Homecoming, they can play how they want. Slower or faster, as you referenced. The Ouroboros still exists, Single Origin enhancements as well. In fact, there are dedicated groups that play under intentional constraints to enjoy the game the way they want. Other folks will play faster, perhaps seeking a specific niche of content or experience. Nobody is forced in to a play style and the negative/toxic side of MMO financial backends are absent here, meaning players aren't grinding for hours, months, years to collect things or enjoy content.

    Hmm...

      Hide contents

We were water cooler discussing this, and we see a couple of other possibilities.  One I've already named: Immortus.  The other is, well, Loki.  Or rather another variant that seeks to preserve his existence above all others.  I know we're not alone in that theory, as some reactors have pointed it out, too.

We also discussed that Marvel has kind of a cheat in their story writing:  they can refer back to a massive body of material outside of their story.  Normally it is bad writing to introduce a character never named, hinted at, or seen in any previous moment of the story.  He Who Remains would be such a character/situation.  However, that's where the cheat comes in.  Marvel simply points to the comic fans and more or less says "They know. Ask them."  This was actually used before.  When Thanos first appear in the end credits scene in The Avengers, most of the audience was saying "Who is that?", and the comic fans were filling them in.    Without that cheat, the chief villain would have to be someone we've already seen/heard about in the story.  Even the cart-pusher with a drawer full of Infinity Stones would make more sense as a surprise alpha baddie who just hid in plain view as a nondescript clerk, rather than someone unreferenced.   But...we have the massive material of all things Marvel in play as well.

On an unrelated note, did y'all pick up on a couple of the images seen in the void world?  Last week, many, including me, wondering if we were seeing an alternate NYC, due to the destruction of the "city" and the very damaged Avengers Tower in one of the shots.  But this week, the first building shown was a lighthouse.  THE Lighthouse, you might say.  That was what historians think the Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, looked like.  So immediately the visuals of this episode are telling you this is not NYC, nor any place we could name.  I've watched several reaction videos so far, and have been surprised that no one that I've seen picked up on that.

The other thing is the ship that tried to fight back.  The name gives it away.  The whole thing is a reference to the myth of The Philadelphia Experiment, where supposedly that ship, during WWII was used for testing a cloaking technology that turned out to be a time/space anomaly.  Love the reference and I think this is the second time the show has referenced a modern (last 100 years), real world legend or myth.  (D.B. Cooper would be the first)

    Spoiler

The only thing I saw was the "sacred timeline" and a castle looking building with a bright light on the top. It actually reminded me of the color that you see from Dr. Strange when he uses magic. That, or I just can't think about time travel thinking about this scene:
