Determining if the Game is Too Easy
PeregrineFalcon replied to Monos King's topic in General Discussion
Here's a couple of serious suggestions: Play in smaller teams. 3-5 instead of 8. Play Task Forces and split the team in two and race to see who can complete the mission first. Do Hamidon Raids, Rikti Mothership Raids, Incarnate Raids. -
knockback Proposed Knockback modifcation/fix
PeregrineFalcon replied to dnomad333's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Well, he'd be wrong. And so are you: Here's a link to an actual poll that was conducted last year. The players who say they LOVE KNOCKBACK total 52.47% of the respondents. Players who hate knockback, or who wish it was knockdown instead, total just 22.77% of the respondents. So much for your "majority." BTW, gaslighting is when you engage in deception over a long period of time with the purpose of making someone question their sanity. When I simply disagree with you on something, especially when it's just once, then it's literally not gaslighting. So now you're 0 and 2, Iron Joe. Care to take a third swing? -

Ok, fine. In place of stupid substitute whichever less rude word you prefer. My point remains the same. -
knockback Proposed Knockback modifcation/fix
PeregrineFalcon replied to dnomad333's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Correct. See, knockback isn't the problem. Stupid is the problem. If my blaster uses Power Thrust to save himself from the one guy that hasn't noticed the tank, that's not a problem. If I use Energy Torrent to save the defender from a bunch of guys that are about to drop him that's also not a problem. The problem is when someone uses Energy Torrent to knock a bunch of enemies away from the tank or out of the teams' AoEs. But you know what else is a problem? When a controller does an AoE immob that stops the enemies from clustering around my Invuln tank, thus lowering her defense and making it difficult to hold aggro. Or when the blaster lights another group on fire and gets himself, and the defender, killed because he doesn't understand what "aggro cap" means. Or when the defender is too busy playing with his beam rifle and forgets to reapply bubbles (not that I've ever done that, no sir!). So I believe that the problem is not knockback, the problem is stupid. And no amount of coding can fix stupid. -

The thread with the developer post that Sunsette linked to was from January 2020, which just goes to show how long this debate has been going on. In it the suggestion was to make a toggle that would cost no endurance and turn all knockback powers into knockdown powers. That seems like an option that would meet all of your criteria. However, even that won't allow people to play they way they want to play. Because, while in teams, people will be likely be told to turn their KB->KD toggle on or get kicked from the team. How is that "playing the way they want to play?" The IOs that we actually have in game now allow people to slot some knockback powers for knockdown and not others. This allows players more flexibility in that they can set many abilities to just knockdown while still maintaining the ability to do knockback when they feel the need to. -

I really don't mean to "give people crap." I suspect that my writing style makes me appear to be angry. I'm not. So that's not my intention, but based off of peoples' reactions it seems to me that most people take it that way. My intention is to tear apart the argument, not the person. I often make the mistake of believing that people can read the words that I write without assuming some kind of passive-aggressive 'tone'. If you read the words that I write as if their were spoken by Mister Spock, instead of by Sam Kinison, you'll find that I ask very specific questions for a reason. For example: when I say "Or is it possible that it's just you and your friends?" I do not mean that as a passive-aggressive way to call someone an idiot. What I mean by that is literally "think about what you've said. Is it possible that it's just you and your friends who think that way?" I wonder if people read just the words I write, without putting their own 'tone' to my words and assuming that I'm angry, upset and/or crazy, if they'd still feel the urge to strangle me. I'll probably never know. -

I really appreciate the honest answer. I didn't ask it just to be a jerk, I asked it because it's the next logical step in the progression of this discussion. To explain why I'll quote a dev: Captain Powerhouse "A reason I heavily oppose the addition of a global switch for KnockBack is that as soon as it's available, anyone that does not use it will become an outcast, accused of trolling, and what not." I agree with him, which is why I responded to your post in the first place. Once you "solve" the problem of knockback you then create the next problem - people being ostracized for having knockback. So instead of solving one problem by creating another why don't we try to solve it in a way that doesn't create another problem? -

Sure. I asked all of my friends who play City of Heroes. 87% of them said they prefer knockback to knockdown. I'm sure that my small group of friends is a representative sample of the thousands of people that play on Homecoming. Right? Also, you never answered my question about "what next"? I ask because yours is like thread number 1,178 on converting knockback to knockdown. If the developers take your suggestion and allow people to slot globally for knockback to knockdown then what? Because you know that a bunch of people won't do it. So what then? Do you then come back to the forums and complain to the devs that since people refuse to slot their new KB to KD IO, and you're tired of kicking these people who don't play their characters the way you want them to, that they should now just change all knockback to knockdown? And if your answer is 'no' then why not? Because it appears to be the next logical step. Welcome to Suggestions & Feedback. Where new ideas undergo trial by fire! 😄 -

So a bunch of people that you've met in game. Ok. I wish you'd just said that instead of attempting bolster your argument by misrepresenting the number of people who agree with you. Ok, let's say the developers do create this global KB to KD IO. What then? What happens when a bunch of people don't slot it because they don't read the forums? What happens when a bunch of people don't slot it because they actually like knockback? Do you kick those people from your team and tell them to go slot a KB to KD global proc? Do you then ask the devs to nerf all KB in game to KD? BTW, my research indicates that 87% of players actually prefer knockback instead of knockdown. -

I believe this statement to be false. How, exactly, have you "witnessed a growing majority of players"? Have you run some kind of survey or poll? Do you even know how many people play on Homecoming? If not then how can you say that it's a majority? Also, how do you know that the people who dislike Knockback are growing? Is it possible that it's just a handful of people that are being very vocal? Or is it possible that it's just you and your friends/guildmates that dislike Knockback? -
Determining if the Game is Too Easy
PeregrineFalcon replied to Monos King's topic in General Discussion
Yes, and I wish the people who keep starting these "The Game is too Easy" threads would actually use those difficulty settings. However, they refuse to use those settings. Instead they want the devs to fiddle with the difficulty settings for them, which has the effect of raising the difficulty for the rest of us. Now if I read Monos King right he seems to think that getting to 50 is too fast and easy. I'd definitely recommend that the devs add a "1/2 XP, 1/2 Inf, 1/2 drops & 1/2 Enhancement Effectiveness" setting, with an optional no-deaths/Ironman mode, just for him and his fellow "Game is 2 Easy" acolytes. Then maybe they'll quit starting threads asking the devs to jack up the difficulty for everyone every other week. And yes. I believe that this thread is a not so subtly disguised "The Game is too Easy" thread. -
Determining if the Game is Too Easy
PeregrineFalcon replied to Monos King's topic in General Discussion
I don't usually agree with Snarky, but when I do it's because he's right. If you all want to play HARD MODE then ask the devs to do something to give you all a HARD MODE. Me, and a lot of other folks, just want to have a beer and sail through some easy content while chatting with our friends on Discord. Enjoy your HARD MODE. But please, stop trying to convince the devs to FORCE the rest of us to also play on HARD MODE. Us scrubs playing the game on super-easy baby wipe mode DOES NOT ruin the game for you. It literally does not affect you at all. Please stop trying to force the rest of us to "gEt gUd N00b!!!!!1111eleventyoneoneone111!!!!" I'm old and I'm slow and I'm half-blind and I like the game as is. Now F-OFF with your trying to force me to play your version of the game at +6 x16 with no inspirations or enhancements. Play the game the way you like and stop trying to force me to play the game the way you want me to.- 330 replies

Determining if the Game is Too Easy
PeregrineFalcon replied to Monos King's topic in General Discussion
Everything that you're about to read is just my opinion, not fact. Also, you can disagree with me without either of us being wrong. 1) Some groups don't have special abilities. For the ones that do it's the same level of challenge: find the one enemy in the spawn (sapper, medic, super stunner, etc) and kill him first. 2) Not really a problem. It can be easily solved with the difficulty slider and/or bringing a second aggro magnet. 3) This can certainly be an issue as there is virtually no in-game documentation about anything. The wiki helps, especially considering that there are player guides on it, but there's no reference in game to the existence of the wiki either. 4) Same as 3 above. There's no reference in-game regarding Enhancement Diversification. 5) That's a game playing skill that's intrinsic to all video games. 6) Same as 5 above. I don't know of any video game that explains the special mechanics of certain bosses. You learn it from other players, or from the wiki, same as all other video games. 7) Same as 5 and 6. On subjects that were brought up later. If the game is too easy then that means that you're good at building and/or enhancing your characters. Go solo a Task Force or Incarnate Trial if you want more challenge. Yes this game is mostly casual easy-mode. Most of us like that, that's why we play this game. -
To the OP: Good. I dislike Opportunity. 99% of the time it becomes available just as I'm about to finish off the last minion in the group. This makes it worthless. Good. Still a bit more complex than I'd like. Just add the perception and/or -dam resist and call it a day. Not every inherent has to be like Fury or Domination. Sometimes inherents like Vigilance are best. So you're going to remove the +Range from the Sentinel ATOs? Not only no, but HELL NO. Given IOs this is completely unnecessary.

It sounds to me like what you really want to play is a Fire/Energy Sentinel. You should give that a try.

True, but it's only in recent years that the "cry-bullies" have really gone after anyone and everyone that anything that they deemed offensive. Also, their version of what's offensive has become more and more ridiculous over the last 10 years. Then, to top it off, they make sure to post publicly about it, so that everyone knows that they are part of the "in crowd" of people who get offended by everything. In short, it's far more about virtue signaling than it is about having a valid complaint about actual offensive words or actions. And we all know where this ride ends. It ends with everyone walking on eggshells, too concerned about being banned to post on the forums or talk with anyone in in-game chat.

Part of being civil is also tolerating other people doing things that you don't like. This means not being the nosy person constantly peering out of the curtains and calling the police on those mean ole neighbor kids because they set up a lemonade stand. Or telling their parents when you overhear them using a "naughty" word. Or complaining because someone names their character Pig Benis. You all sound like the cranky old spinster aunt at the family reunion who makes annoyed faces every time she hears children laughing and having fun. Let the children have their fun!
-
Here's an idea, OP. Why don't you stop complaining about the kids, with their dancing and their demonic rock-and-roll, and just let Elvis perform on the Ed Sullivan Show without trying to censor him and complain that he's a Satan worshiper? If you don't like peoples' names just roll your eyes and move on.

Just chiming in because I noticed that you all missed an important part of what I wrote: "that was the post-EQ/pre-WoW trinity that existed in 2003." Sit down, youngsters, and listen to grandpa for a minute. Back before WoW the trinity was Tank/Heal/Control. The concept of a DPS character was starting to become a thing as well, and game developers were starting to like controls less and less. Which is why more modern games, have very little in the way of control, but I digress. Shortly after WoW launched the trinity got morphed, in the collective consciousness, to Tank/Heal/DPS. And yes, the original Cryptic developers did talk back then, in the forums and in interviews, about the trinity. The classes and game were designed with the trinity "in mind", the game just wasn't designed for them to be mandatory. Just because the trinity isn't mandatory doesn't mean that it wasn't thought about or "in mind." Geez, one of our classes is even called a Tanker. That alone should be enough evidence. Ok, youngsters. Class dismissed.
-
You know, I read some of these threads and I wonder if some of you even understand the state that the game is currently in. The game was already designed and built and ran and shut down. The current team of volunteers are trying to run the game that we used to play, not create their own. This is important because the game launched, 17 years ago, with a trinity. Tanker class, Defender class, Controller class - that was the post-EQ/pre-WoW trinity that existed in 2003 when the developers were applying the finishing touches to this game to get it ready to launch. If you really wanted there to be no trinity in this game then you should have posted this on the beta forums back in March 2004. You're a little bit too late now.

New Thunderspy updates look pretty cool.
PeregrineFalcon replied to Wavicle's topic in General Discussion
Well, to be fair, the other servers all have a ton of animosity towards the Homecoming devs. I know this because, on their own sites, they've said "we really have a ton of animosity towards the Homecoming devs." Or words to that effect. I've forgotten what little info I knew about why, which was never very much. Obviously I'm curious about what happened from Homecoming's point of view, but I'm sure the homecoming developers will decline to talk about it out of a misguided sense of professionalism. -
Is Forecefield Worth Taking as a Primary Anymore?
PeregrineFalcon replied to 00Troy00's topic in Defender
If I were buffing Force Fields I think I'd add some Absorb and whole lot of Defense Debuff Resistance. This way bubbles would be useful even to those Billion Inf soft-capped monsters. -

In that case I'd say that the best solution is to buy another computer. A desktop preferably, a cheap older laptop with an Nvidia graphics card, if that's all you can afford OP.
