And there's nothing wrong with those types of players. Nothing. Wrong. At. All. CoH is one of the few MMOs that is welcoming of that sort of player. The one who just likes to make costumes, the ones who just like to use the game as a chat room while having an awesome looking avatar. Roleplayers who don't really want to bother with the combat portion of the game (and plenty of RPers that do RP while doing missions, of which I'm a big fan of but I like the mellow stuff too). All valid, all have a home here in CoH. If you want achievements or badges for a day's hard grind, fine, be my guest. Not costume parts, please. We're playing an ancient game that a few awesome people resurrected from the grave (just like someone did to this thread), I'm not here to grind away and pump my dopamine, I just want to look cool and punch Hellions. I make a big stink about this because of what I said before: the developers are volunteers that can't readily add new costume pieces or assets to the game willy nilly. Even the new Freakzohk stuff in the works are reskins and not new assets. If they did make a huge breakthrough and actually add new stuff to the game I'd be pretty livid if only a portion of HC's playerbase have the free time or desire to do the repetitive old content to get them. "But danger, we'd add new costume pieces to NEW content to grind!" If you want both of those things, that's a pretty tall order, even from our talented devs.

That's what I meant. An option to disable buff FX on yourself, that way you can throw out those neon colored Thermal buffs to know exactly who is and who isn't buffed with what but the people on the receiving end don't get blinded by your flames. I also wouldn't mind a copy of Null showing up in Atlas Park and Mercy so you don't have to go to Pocket D to talk to it.

Trick or Treating looks silly in the day time
dangeraaron10 replied to ZacKing's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
People in my town do trick or treating at around 4pm. Kids go home when sun goes down. I do like the fact that it's NOT perma-night for an entire month. -
This guy knows what's up. I don't even want to pick something like Thermal because there's no minimal FX option like Cold has (or at least I think it has for the most part), because I don't want to turn my entire team into a burning effigy (even if I color it in a way to make it more subtle). Definitely second a Null option that disables visual FX of all buffs given to you by other players. And also more minimal FX options for Armors. While there are some Radiation Armor abilities that look cool and add to a costume, others just turn you into a glowing green lightbulb (or whatever color you pick). Sure, you can get more subtle colors but there's no reason it shouldn't have minFX options like Bio has.

Ya'll keep forgetting that HC isn't a company with a profit motive. I know it somehow feels the game is just as "live" as any other game with the steady stream of sensible content updates that have a clear development vision, but at the end of the day, this is a private server and passion project run on hopes and dreams. Grind only exists to pad out subs or offer shortcuts via. microtransactions. Actually adding new costume pieces to HC seems like something that's not as easy to do as people think, even to experienced developers. CoH is... a mess, in terms of code. Or so I'm often told. Any work done on new costume pieces would probably take a large amount of effort with no sort of monetary gain, so if such a thing were given to the servers, I don't see why you'd put it behind a dumb arbitrary grind that most people probably won't bother with or just ask to get carried through, something to just spend inf on. Inf to buy it, its materials, or for an Incarnate to carry them through the content needed. For what? Something that could be an excellent missing piece to a theme you couldn't do previously being gated so some people can use it as a bragging trophy. Really sick of this mentality on other games that have an understandable reason for large amounts of grind, I came to HC to get away from that, thanks.

I love the idea of utilizing a Break Bar ala. Guild Wars 2. Any sort of Control type power would knock it down, and this would work for a control on any AT (like ones from Epic Pools, Blaster Manipulation, or secondary effects from certain powersets like Ice Blast), but Controllers and Dominators would do more "damage" to the Break Bar. Perhaps once this Break Bar is broken, the AV/GM gets briefly stunned before flooring its Resistance and Regeneration for a short while. This opens up the possibility of AV/GM hunting for low-damage powersets that include controls but not specific powers that reduce these stats (like in Traps or Radiation, etc.). However, Doomrider brought up a good point that AVs/GMs don't really last all that long to make such a thing worth it. Plus, the game has already suffered from power creep since Incarnate Powers were introduced without much accompanying Incarnate Content. I feel like something akin to a Break Bar mechanic should be looked at if Homecoming ever decides to add content meant to challenge Incarnates or beefs up old content to make such a mechanic worth while.

Seconded. I had to take multiple deep dives into a thesaurus to try to fit as much story into such a tiny box as possible. Good for expanding vocabulary, but not good for those who like to spice up their characters with a bit of creative writing.

Change the 'drop' of temporary powers
dangeraaron10 replied to srmalloy's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Sounds like a great option a certain bird could add to its dialogue options. Temporary powers are fun but I agree that getting spammed with them can get a little annoying at times. I support a Null option to make temporary powers not automatically assign themselves to open slots on your bars. -
Laser Beam Eyes is an available power in Tanker, Brute, Scrapper, and Stalker Epic Pools (Energy Mastery for the first two, Body Mastery for the second two) for what it's worth. Though I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to additional powers and choices. I mean, look at my avatar! My Savage/Rad Brute has Energy Mastery specifically for Laser Beam Eyes (Superior Conditioning and Physical Perfection also making his health and endurance a further non-issue is icing on the cake). Edit: And yeah, X-Ray Beam is available for every Radiation Blast and Assault set, and both Kheldians have a laser beam eye power available as their Tier 2 (which has the bonus of being usable in both AT's Nova form for a better single target rotation!)

I love love love Radiation Armor but for a natural guy.... Willpower. Its the Rich Man's Regen with proper defenses. I have no experience with claws so I can't talk about that one. My limited understanding of Claws is that its an oldie but a goodie. No frills, no nonsense lethal damage with great AoE and is popular with farming Brutes as an alternative to Spines.
-
Sav/Rad Broot player here. Frenzy doesn't increase damage but it either reduces recharge and/or endurance use. For Brutes I generally skip Hemo (Stalkers use it super well but Hemo doesn't mesh well with Brute Fury). I only use Rending as a Frenzy spender for AoE but ONLY if Blood is up to replenish Frenzy. If you have no stacks your DPS plummets.

Give Sprint a Minimal FX Option
dangeraaron10 replied to Starforge's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
A harmless suggestion but I'd take it a step further and cannibalize Ninja Run and Beast Run (and all the Prestige Sprints) into one highly customizable Sprint. Dust cloud optional. Pretty silly that a suggestion like this would get crapped on. -
If You Could Change Sentinels, How Would You Do It? (Another Take)
dangeraaron10 replied to Zeraphia's topic in Sentinel
I haven't read the entire thread but I wanted to mention something: Please do not put in any mechanics that incentivize you to go into melee range to do optimal DPS (like increasing damage if you are closer to the target). I like Sentinels due to the fact that certain powerset combos let you stay entirely at range with no need to wander into melee, letting you hoverblast at your peak. (Most) Blasters are already incentivized to go into melee (Blapping) to do the best damage. I like having an AT that can play optimally entirely at range. Not that I dislike melee, my main is a Savage/Rad Brute, but we already have so many ATs that are strictly melee (Tanker, Scrapper, Brute, Stalker) and two ranged capable ATs that are almost always in melee (Blasters and Dominators) to be the most effective. Sentinel gives me that option to stay on the backline without also having support abilities, which I don't care for. I wouldn't mind seeing any PBAoE abilities from Sentinel being replaced with Target/Location AoEs to further reinforce their ranged nature. -
I see people bring up Ninja Run/Beast Run quite a lot for many different reasons. There's a lot of contention over these two little powers, that's for sure. Frankly, I wouldn't mind Sprint being reworked to run as fast as Ninja Run/Beast Run out of combat but slow to the old Sprint speed in combat, and being able to customize the animations between standard, ninja, beast, and more (throw the prestige sprint animations in there while you're at it do declutter our power menu). So just combine all of them into one useful inherent power. Keep the slotting the same, but make Sprint faster out of combat while cannibalizing the other two powers. It'd also have the benefit of running Combat Jumping at the same time (turning on Combat Jumping disables Ninja/Beast Run). So for those that want to run and jump as fast as Ninja/Beast when toggled together with Sprint, just use Sprint with the preferred animation with a nice +Speed Enhancement and run it along with Combat Jumping. You also get Combat Jumping's defense bonus while keeping your preferred animations!

Some good ideas in this thread. I like the idea of Opportunity being a clicky like Domination, being able to use it on whenever you want when it activates (either via the current Fury-like build up or something else?). This will let players not feel obligated to use the T1 or T2 powers in powersets where they aren't that great, and it makes a complex Inherent a little simpler. While upgrading the damage scale won't give Sentinels Blaster level damage, they don't need it (or else they'll over shadow Blasters). While Blasters get their fast snipes, an increased damage scaler for Sentinels will close the gap a bit while keeping their unique utility. I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet (I didn't read ALL the comments, about half of them), but I'd love to see the Opportunity "Fury" Bar be a lot like Domination. In that once you are able to activate an Opportunity, you get a buff called "Window of Opportunity" and that lets you place 1 of the 2 Opportunities on a target. During this Window of Opportunity, if the target that has it dies, you can place the Opportunity on a new target.

Is anyone else a total slave to the thematic?
dangeraaron10 replied to DrInfernus's topic in General Discussion
I always build to theme but rarely does that result in matching weapon types or elements. I like my characters to have a mix of things and Epic Pools very often play into the concept. My Brute is a mini-Godzilla that uses Savage Melee for claw attacks, Radiation Armor as radiation is what powers him (and Ground Zero makes for a great "Critical Mass" type nova ability), and Energy Mastery for Laser Eye Beams (as a substitute for a breath weapon, something not fired from the hands for a better monster feel). I'm still trying to figure out what AT and powerset combo I can enjoy to make a Black Mage inspired character that uses Fire, Ice, and Electricity. So, yes, but not in the way you describe. -
Nuke this particular forum every season/every 3 months
dangeraaron10 replied to Ruin Mage's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
So that way we delete the one off, novel suggestions that get burried only for more of the same usual subjects to get reposted over and over? Personally i think we should just sticky the most common and hotly discussed repeat topics. Lets less exciting but less controversial suggestions be seen for a few minutes. -
Focused Feedback: Experimentation (Build 1 - 4)
dangeraaron10 replied to Jimmy's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
So was nerfing Jaunt all that necessary? You have to run a stealth-less Super Speed to use it and it already had a cooldown that'd prevent you from chaining it, even with recharge, and there's no hover delay after using it so using it in the air is off the table too. Truth be told, and this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I'm getting pretty annoyed that we can't have nice things because Day 1 travel powers that people already skip to save slots and take P2W powers in their place might look even worse than they did previously. -
Would you like to see Statesman return?
dangeraaron10 replied to Solarverse's topic in General Discussion
I guess I wouldn't mind. He's pretty iconic. I feel like HC should be a new chapter for CoX. Retire the old guard, bring in some new faces, scale things down so they can be built up again, etc. I say that because the HC devs don't have all that baggage the old devs had, with Jack or NCSoft or anything else. They can diverge in multiple different ways. -
GM Kal on the HC Discord said they're working on it and to stay tuned.

Same here, same problem.

Clearly, Ice Mistral should replace Ms. Liberty in Atlas and Sirocco should be the contact of a new Hero Task Force. That Heel-Face-Turn was almost there and the game got canned. Or, you know, Back Alley Brawler is there, too. Or Ms. Liberty is perfectly fine being there, too.

I didn't do a terrible amount of testing with this set so I can't comment TOO much on it, but one thing I should note is that it's really silly Galvanic Sentinel is not permanent. Galvanic Sentinel SHOULD be a permanent pet and so should Voltaic Sentinel. I feel like it shouldn't be able to be targeted by enemies, either, also like Voltaic Sentinel. I feel like this is especially true of Galvanic since its entire purpose is to let you chain powers back onto yourself and its low base duration seems like a hassle I wouldn't bother dealing with.

Focused Feedback: Experimentation (Build 1 - 4)
dangeraaron10 replied to Jimmy's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Very nice. *Patiently awaiting Gadgetry* I'm serious I have like 4 character ideas that could use some or all the powers from Gadgetry. I have a bad feeling it'll be the last origin pool completed. As for Jaunt, I think it's great for what it is as a compliment to a stealth-less Super Speed. It's a snappy short range teleport that gives this alternative to Super Speed some vertical travel at the cost of innate stealth. Plus, you can't reliably use Jaunt for transport by itself because of its unenhanceable cooldown. So I don't think Jaunt needs nerfed at all, no. Rather, Teleport could be made more snappy and over all make it feel better to use. I never waste a power pick on Teleport, and even though I try to have all my characters have different forms of travel to make them unique from each other, I just use Warshade's innate Teleport powers instead.
