Storm/Regen or Storm/NRG is there a favorite yet ?
nihilii replied to Heatstroke's topic in Sentinel
/nrg is ridiculously strong in general and even moreso on Sentinels. /regen is OK. If you're split between the two in terms of pure performance, /nrg is a clear win. But in your case, trying /regen could be the best choice. New is fun, and you would also get some perspective on just how good your other /nrg alts have it... 🙂 -
You don't have to draw the line at P2W holds. You could make the case purchasable powers that are currently available remove ingenuity from the game. But in general, it's a weak argument to lump everything together. You want to look at the absolute strength of each option. i.e. Gabriel's Hammer is not really better than your attacks, but Envenomed Daggers are definitely high up in the reward:risk curve compared to most other options.
-
I don't think anything you're saying here necessarily disproves Zect's argument. Envenomed Daggers remove a lot of creativity for taking down tough targets. I like having the option, but I recognize in many cases I'm taking the cheap way out.

Seems like it redownloaded every file, or close to it.

In honor of this thread, I've created a new Rad/SS Tanker called "Misconceptions". She will focus entirely on her attacks at the detriment of defense. She will not pick up Taunt. Once she's lvl 35, I intend to respec out of most of my secondary and into the Fire epic, use fire blasts extensively, and play at range. Thank you for the inspiration, Diantane!

Ever come back to a AT + Power and find greatness?
nihilii replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
All the time! I used to be a /nin hater. Why would I want a defense-based powerset when I can pop lucks on top of resistance and be that much sturdier? End recovery power? Bah, I'll just run Ageless! Click mez protection? Ugh, so tedious to maintain. Then I did a 180° last year and this is now my favorite powerset. I run the exact thing I used to think silly, Elude + Barrier while taking care of endurance through traditional means, and I'm having a blast. To be fair, the various changes as of late have truly opened new dynamics. An Elude build is so much better now that the power is available at 30 rather than 38. The power remains all the way down to lvl 25 when exemplaring. Click mez protection usable while mezzed also removes the burden of clicking it every 2 minutes. Huge quality of life improvement. -
A hardcore mode would be great fun. I like your idea for implementation, too. A purely cosmetic thing that nonetheless encourages us to do our best.
-
I've tried once and it didn't work, from what I recall.

120 hours of gameplay. It's so long you could conceivably build around it (provided you don't AFK). I've kept it for months on some characters. Always a little sad when it expires!
-
Frozen Aura does 86 damage rather than 172. The tooltip is bugged and copypastes the same lines twice. Still a decent power, mind you. If you proc it out you can get it to the ~450-500 damage range, and like you said it comes up twice faster than a nuke. It's a solid mini footstomp.
-
Very cool! Thank you for doing this.

In practice, I think the TW nerf was almost a buff for most players. Easier Momentum, less end consumption in Momentum. The further you are on the highend optimized build + twitchy player behind keyboard, the more likely this was a nerf; but for the average person it's hard to overstate how significant the quality of life from this revamp is. No more awkward misses messing up your flow. As someone who can't handle patterns or rhythm games, old TW used to literally break my brain and leave me standing for a couple seconds too often for my liking. Whereas nowadays it's almost as easy to play as any other set. As for /bio, /bio is still ridiculously overpowered. Therefore I'd give TW/bio the highest F-star grade: it's Fine

Throwing a vote for Axe. I think everyone should try Cleave, Axe Cyclone and Sweep once. For me it feels close to the targeting ease of playing a ranged character, packed with melee survivability.
-
Stalkers also get a straight Build Up instead of Power Siphon. So the CS pseudocrits recharge BU, which you can always doublestack for more efficiency unlike PS.
-
I love Boggle. Full strength hard mez on a melee character, what's not to like? If the rest of psi melee wasn't so ho-hum, I probably wouldn't play any other melee set.
-
KM is awkward in general but especially so for Brutes because the Power Siphon damage boosting mechanic pairs poorly with the Brute inherent nature of low base damage and low damage mod with Fury on the side. Fixing KM for Scrappers/Stalkers could be simple enough (add crit damage to CS, speed up the slower animations). Fixing KM for Brutes without making it too strong for other ATs is an interesting challenge. It might make sense for a KM revamp to follow the Claws dynamic, where the set has higher damage longer recharge attacks on Brutes and Tankers. Scrappers/Stalkers get crit CS, Brutes/Tankers get more meaty hits.

This is dangerously offtopic, but I have to agree. There's half a dozen regulars on this forum who very clearly don't play the game anymore (if ever), and consistently make negative arguments based on theorycraft data they get online. This subforum specifically is infested with them. I wish the moderation would do something about it. A couple of posters here have probably alienated hundreds of actual players who are excited about the game, come here casually to make their suggestions, then find themselves facing this barrage of hostility and assume the forum community sucks and is "full of weirdos". When in fact it's literally just those 3-4 posters. Individually putting these guys on ignore is not a solution, they shit up every topic on this board. This can't be a good thing for the community.

The term was widely used before 4chan or MRAs were a thing. Back when the Internet was 99% sausagefest, this was one of the most common insults thrown around; and rightfully so, because damn did some boys get horny and obnoxious the moment a whiff of the better gender came around. I am a very hairy man. Even *I* was whiteknighted pretty heavily by dudes who mistook playing female characters for having the equipment in real life. This absolutely was a thing. If anything, the reason we can associate the term with weirdos nowadays is because the trend has been thankfully curbed, relative to the heights of online insanity in the early 2000s. The last sentence of this Wikipedia definition is an irrelevant logical fallacy. Anyone normal knows the difference between a man being helpful to a woman and a guy trying to get in her pants. Calling out members of the latter group has never implied the former group shares their motivations.

My own pick would be /nin... 😅 I guess we'd need to narrow down on what feels squishy about nin for you. By lvl 20 shield is mostly weaker, but you like your DM/SD. So I'm thinking, perhaps you're playing on SOs without insps and the -tohit and Siphon Life from DM are helping to the point shield feels stronger? Perhaps kat/nin could replicate that experience, as the +DEF of Divine Avalanche can be more potent than the -tohit of Dark Melee.

A collapse in the market also lowers the game playability
nihilii replied to Diantane's topic in General Discussion
I started a new character last week. I decided to start with 0 inf and no help whatsoever, as I do every once in a while. Although I should know a lot about the market, I'm not as skilled as many nor do I have the patience to do things right or even remember how things work. So I figure it out as I go, and it always seems to work out. Which is to say anyone should be able to replicate my results easily, by following the same patterns. Here's what I did last week: 1) get the 3 inspirations P2W power. This will be your seed money, medium insps always sell for a little bit on the auction house. You defeat a couple lvl 1 mobs to have more than 0 inf, so you can put the insps for sale. 2) select recipes, filter by "rare" and lvl "50-50" (min and max, just lvl 50 recipes) Look for recipes where there's many for sale and hardly any bidder. Last sale price must be under 10k, ideally around 5k. Put bids on these. When the bids fill, you turn around and sell these to NPC vendors. Doubling your money. 3) once you have at least 50k, change your filters to: "uncommon" and lvl "10-20" Hunt for typically undesirable recipes. Confuse, sleep, and so on. Once again, your ideal scenario is many for sale and few buyers. An OK buy price is about 10k inf. Make sure the crafting ingredients do NOT require Rare salvage. Some yellow recipes lie to you that way. Get the recipes. Craft them. Your total cost should be about 50k per recipe. List them back for 101k (= worst case scenario, you double your money). They will typically sell instantly for 350k. I assume professional converters buy them at that price. 4) once you have 5M to 10M, get pvp recipes Again, lower level is good because it costs less to craft. A good buy price is 2M6 or so. Throw in the cost of salvage (mainly the Rare piece at 450k-500k) and the listing price, you should plan to spend about 3M5 per IO. List them back for 4M1. They will typically sell within a day, for 5M to 7M. This method got me to 0 to 100M in 4-5 play sessions this week, for about 2h of total market work, and no brainpower required. There are better paths as others suggested. It would make sense to go the merit exploration route rather than bother with 1) and 2). Seems much more efficient! So, do whatever you want. As long as you sell things for a higher price than you get them. There's limitless ways to make inf in this game. -
Focused Feedback: Blast Power Set Updates
nihilii replied to The Curator's topic in [Open Beta] Focused Feedback
Loving the latest AR changes, both Ignite and Beanbag. While this isn't to everyone's tastes, personally I'm happy to trade Aim for a fast-activating stun with standard damage I can fit in my regular attack chain and doublestack to boss magnitude with ease. -
For what it's worth, the i27p5 changes turned Fire Melee from a mediocre set to a top end one. GFS was sped up massively, Cremate gets KD, swords can slot Achilles' Heel procs. These changes pushed it into high DPS territory, and AOE was always good. I concur with previous points re: Brutes vs Tankers. Or vs Scrappers if you want to focus on the ST side. FM Brutes are good, it just so happens alternative archetypes get even more out of it.

This thread seems familiar. 😄 I'm kind of in love with the idea of DA/Staff, now that Staff will finally have its redraw issues fixed. DA struggles a bit with energy resistance, so the Sky Splitter buff still ought to help. Staff comes with a 10ft (=15ft on Tanker) PBAoE and a ranged attack. Animations are lengthy and you'd likely want to run Guarded Spin -> Precise Strike -> Serpent's Reach to get those 3 stacks of Perfection for the Sky Splitter buff. So, not much room for Gloom... But in a sense, that's an opportunity to grab Conserve Power. CP + Cardiac to take care of endurance. Barrier as Destiny to shore up def/res, likewise patching the DDR hole through overwhelming defense.
