  1. That could be cool. Reminds me of how the Yakuza engages in disaster relief. Personally I vote for The Family. They have experience building up places (St. Martial) and irl have done so in St. Martial's irl counterpart Vegas. The only downside is that it kind of retreads the same ground as St. Martial but nobody plays Redside so I think it pans out still.
  2. It originated from an era predating family names, and meant "from" (also used was zu). This usage is similar with older English ways to call someone, like Robin of Locksley, but carried the specific meaning that the guy was noble as well. Later, the "von" + place name became family names when that became a thing. That being said, it is not totally reliable. Not all nobles head it. And after WWI, when the German peerage was abolished, people could add it to their names with no consequence. All this at least, this is true of the Prussians, because before 1871, there was no "Germany", and I don't know enough to know if you could generalize this to all the constituent kingdoms/principalities/dukedoms/etc that became Imperial Germany.
  3. Is this the pseudo pet proc rate thing that also applies to enflame from the sorcery pool and irradiated ground from rad melee? What is the deal with it? Like, why does it have a better proc rate?
  4. Not enough pockets.
  5. I had a lot of fun with my claws/electric brute. You get a very good pbaoe very early compared to some other melee sets, and I think electric armor looks cool.
  6. Dunno about that. Imagine how many people randomly die every day from some random disaster in CoX. As bad as the real world is, the worst thing around that happens regularly is a war. There's multiple wars simultaneously in CoX. Multiple densely populated neighborhoods are completely destroyed along with presumably many of the inhabitants. Not to mention every other person out on the streets is some sort of super powered criminal out for blood. If we had CoX problems irl society would have already fallen due to unsustainable body counts. You can't even go to the grocery store without risking your life. It is not an environment conducive to productive economic activity. So it would have been City of Freakshows?
  7. Can't you just get by with a .45 long slide with lazer sighting and a 12 gauge auto loader?
  8. Stalker gets my vote. Stalker elec melee is the best version. I'm not the most familiar with stealth mechanics, but afaik, unless you pvp, stacking is pretty much useless for stalkers. Either enemies can't see you through the stealth granted via hide, or they see you no matter what (like Rikti drones). Your hidden status is then best protected by defense at that point until you can crit them.
  9. RWZ near the UFO. That music is sick and gets me pumped up to beat up some ayys. I also like the AP music near there Atlas statue. It just feels so heroic.
  10. He's not going to appreciate it anyway, since there's no such thing as free lunch.
  11. Yellow snow.
  12. If you do Nance/Adair (The blueside clone arcs) you can get Nance to help you fight in Roy Cooling's final mission.
  13. Any AOE (Especially PBAOE's) with KB/KD. Lightning Rod is my personal favorite. Foot Stomp (seems quite popular) is also up here. KB/KD I feel really gives the best feeling of pure power. It is my favorite type of control period just from the aesthetic standpoint. The elec melee slow AS is also pretty awesome, as is the ninja sword slow AS.
  14. Mission 3 of ITF is awesome for this reason.
  15. It may vary depending on the server, but on Everlasting at least, both of these are very well explained and run. They also don't really have a story to speak of that is revealed in the raid. Personally, I solo mission arcs if I am trying to experience the story. There are a lot of times where only the leader gets to read dialogue. But no one wants to just read a giant wall of text and make others wait on them anyway.
  16. You probably won't read this since it is a post from ancient times I am replying to, but I have a character with the same origin story, lol! My brother! Now a level 50.
  17. I guess the main thing I still can't see is the actual damage. As discussed by numerous posts, there are many controls that essentially hard cap inflation. Stuff is in fact affordable, especially in comparison to back in the day. It does not take non-farmers very long to be able to be fully built. There is no lack of various teams going around (well, I guess this is just anecdotal. But it seems people here have similar experiences to me). I team quite a bit myself. I have no problem catching various TF's (other than the notoriously unpleasant ones, but then again, I would expect this). Do I have a hard time catching a team for xyz arc? Depends on the arc I guess. But is that unexpected? There are a metric shit load of arcs, and they are not as worth it as a TF (nor should they be better than a TF anyway, since they do not have the requirement of a team). Generally the arcs that have teams often are TinaMac's arc for the Portal Jockey accolade and the patron arcs. Or random badge missions. I still see teams for various story arcs outside of that, but mostly for lower level stuff, like the KR Skulls arc, or Hollows. At the end of the day, if someone is PL'd, they probably don't just build up their character and then quit playing. They will probably actually PLAY said character, and outside of Spines/Fire brutes, this means experiencing the other content. Before I get accused of anything, I don't farm. I only single box. I play/have played a lot of story arcs, but personally I do so solo when I'm actually trying to experience the story, since ain't nobody has got time to read when you're on a team.
  18. I never really used the P2W powers. I never knew it had such good stuff. That baseball bat attack with KB is a pretty decent damage attack. I have to load up on whatever new character in the future. It seems like it would really help in the early levels. -Recharge is my least favorite thing on lowish levels personally. There's no inspiration that counters that yet! Damn Psi/darts/ice. Then again a large proportion of my characters have electric armor.
  19. I could just have a poor understanding of the economy, but IMO, Merits/Merit Vendors are the great regulator. At the end of the day, prices will have a hard time rising above the "price" at the merit vendor. You can always get that very rare recipe at the vendor. Currently, no one does this, since the price of the thing on the AH is generally CHEAPER compared to the equivalent merit vendor pricing. It doesn't matter if everyone has 1 billion Inf from farming (I know I personally don't farm and there must be others like me), the prices would not rise beyond that since everyone has an alternate way to purchase things for cheaper. Maybe things might be otherwise be even cheaper than that. But it is hard to say. The Inf to merit ratio is also controlled by something not really related to farming since farming earns no merits and barely any convertors/catalyst.
  20. I agree with you and kiramon. Could just be me but not everyone I have seen has a current meta (tm) build. Not even me and I read these forums! (I am also bad at making good builds, so it could be that). Judging from the arguments others have made here, I am convinced it is a set that could use some attention. But it is probably less bad even currently than what the theoretical numbers make it out to be, since it assumes everyone is at softcap. I know my /elec armor and /wp are not softcapped on everything. I know I am grateful for the mez protection on my defender and blaster.
  21. Yep. Everything is free now. Build to your hearts delight!
  22. Basically the two groups are rivals in the battle against Battalion. Obviously the sunset cut this short. But they're both trying to save the primal dimension from Battalion, but disagree on how to do it. This is talked about in the lore AMA's with the former devs of Paragon Studios. Shit was going to be so cash. https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Lore_AMA
  23. When I first started, I was also poor af. That is, until I learned about the "turning your merits into converters method" thanks to Sovera's beginner guide. Then I realized I was a millionaire all along. The thing is, you have to have heard about that from somewhere. I had no idea what merits were best used for. There are a lot of things you can buy with them, but often the other things are just not with spending merits on. I think learning about selling converters/boosters is really the minimum knowledge to not be poor as hell. I know everyone here tells anyone who's asking about this method already, but I wish EVERYONE could be taught this. Don't know how this is best done though. Maybe a quick merit vender tutorial? I know crafting and covering is more lucrative but I don't know if everyone would want to get into that, and I think just asking converters puts you in the "won't starve" range of income.
  24. This, everything is valuable here. Especially since this + hover is extremely respectable unsuppressed flight speed. Makes combat much better feeling.
  25. For my natural human character, I use the p2w hoverboard and sprint+athletic run. Another thing to consider is Infiltration in the stealth pool. It's not the fastest, but good enough, at around 60mph. Unless they keep sending you too Nerva.
