I have a new PC! Will Windows 11 work?
Shenanigunner replied to JnEricsonx's topic in General Discussion
It runs just fine. -
Anyone out there still using an XBOX controller?
Shenanigunner replied to TheWhiteLady's topic in Help & Support
I've tried to make a controller useful with CoX a number of times. It can be done but the game is just not controller-happy. At best, you have to map a bunch of weird buttons for power activation. It'd be nice, but. -
Why is Infiltration The Stepchild?
Shenanigunner replied to Aurora_Girl's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
On what, concussions? It varies with the cave. Some are just endless bus-stop traps at speed. -
Sure, do it the hard way. Or just right-click on the tray and toggle "Lock Tray Number" and/or "Lock Powers in Tray"...

THE MARKET IS TAKING ALL OF OUR MONEY PLEASE HELP
Shenanigunner replied to laylahearts89's topic in Help & Support
At least it appears to have fewer yucky ingredients than the current generation of cookie-milk-chocolate-spice-fruit beers. If the range from pilsner to stout, multiplied by dozens of breweries in any one region, isn't enough... go back to Jack and Coke (or 'leventy-flavored wodka) and leave beer alone. /rant -
THE MARKET IS TAKING ALL OF OUR MONEY PLEASE HELP

Or better yet, don't drink that gawdawful slop in the first place. But I digress. -
Need help with this keybind sequence.
Shenanigunner replied to Marshal_General's topic in Help & Support
Okay, this will work: /bind U "+$$cce 2 ccRapidBoil$$bindloadfile ccfly2.txt" And put these two files in your bindfile path ([GAME]/settings/live/) ccfly1.txt U "+$$cce 2 ccRapidBoil$$bindloadfile ccfly2.txt" ccfly2.txt U "+$$powexectoggleon Fly$$bindloadfile ccfly1.txt" Edit bind key, emote, flight power name and costume slot to suit IN ALL THREE. Press and hold U until the costume change is complete, release and Fly. You can add autorun (and up) to the latter so you instantly zoom off. A reverse bind to CC and stop flying is left as an exercise for the player. -
Need help with this keybind sequence.
Shenanigunner replied to Marshal_General's topic in Help & Support
There is the matter of activation and animation times for each of these as well. It may take a more complex bind (a rolling bind, maybe on the press/release model) to accomplish exactly what you want. Or the requirements of each element may make it not-possible. Binds really aren't very good at executing sequences of things; everything sort of happens at once even though it might look like they're sequential. ETA: Yeah, just did some messing around. The animation time of the emote is fixed, so it takes ~6 seconds to complete and the other powers in the string are executed in the meantime. I think the only way to do it is with a rolling bind and press/release; lemme try that. -
Why does this make me think of what happens when you put a HELLS ANGELS rocker on the back of your jacket?

This is CoX. Femtoons don't NEED to look down; they have to look up to avoid seeing their frontal radar housings! (But that mission and its running text always make me giggle.)

I've had no notable issues running on a GTX1050Ti and a 28" Samsung 4K. The only thing I would recommend is getting into advanced UI management (individual window scaling, saving the UI for easy reload, preferably saving a customized UI for each alt, etc.) All in the Guide if you don't find other resources.

I tellya, I don' get no respect! (Thanks, all. Now where's that open bar?)

Sigh. If someone would just respond to this post, I could finally take my seat at the table. (Been stuck at 999 for two days now...)
-
Well, the perma form of that is the mission to help Lady Jane find her chest.
-
This is really old, but seems only half-answered. The short-short form is to carefully arrange your UI as you like it, including some judicious use of /windowscale to adjust window sizes as you like, and then save it using /wdwsave. It should always come up in that configuration. (Saving should not affect that.) And if you mess it up, use /wdwload to put everything right again. The next step from that is to use the file-name versions of load and save so you can save custom layouts for each alt.

Oh, for the old Infocom games, where typing speed was irrelevant...

Yeah, I guess I am lucky to have built a beefy new main system last spring. (I build a new main system about every five years, and sometimes update the video card in the interval.) But, y'know, I've been using GTX1050Ti's since they came out and haven't found a reason to go with anything newer or more expensive, as either a gamer or a graphics/video designer. I used to run the best and hottest (literally) all the time, but that card hit such a high mark and high value ratio... got better things to mess around with.

OTOH, Droid is pretty carefully protected by LucasEmpire.

This, almost certainly. We're not kiddies here, but there is a general agreement to keep things civil. I'd just as soon not see the 14yo crowd here with characters named Flaming Asshole and... well, I won't crowd up the thread with other hee-hee-I'm-such-a-badass crap. If the line gets drawn a little far over into "civil" than "free speech"... I ain't got no complaints.

How to create a keyboard shortcut for TWO powers at once?
Shenanigunner replied to MikeSol's topic in General Discussion
Well, thanks. As I always say when asked for my ID, "Yep, it's still me." The whole Guide thing and other projects are just what falls into my wheelhouse. I don't write about leveling or strategy or (augh!) IOs and AE... just the nuts and bolts. it's still a renewed pleasure to have it useful after all this time. -
Generally true, but more so when doing an update on a system with marginal specs for the new OS.. The hate for Vista was widespread... not only because too many people tried to upgrade to this first general version of "NT" Windows from the old DOS-based versions, and on mangled installations, but because MS lowered the requirements too far in a marketing/accommodation move. Me? I'd been running NT for a couple of years and built a new, full-power system for Vista. It had teething problems, but was not the dog most users perceived it to be. These days, it's not reasonable to replace a system every time there's a modest OS update. So updates are the rule, not clean installations. And the last totally clean updates I did were for Windows 7, which was updated all around to Win 10 and its midding upgrade versions. I had zero trouble with the Win11 update (and this is my main, moneymaking, OMG-it's-gotta-work system... never thought twice after reading the early reports). And bare-metal installs aren't for everyone, by a long shot. But as for features... knowing about the stupid task bar, which is now stuck in a halfway point (to the top of the main monitor, where it's not supposed to be after carefully resetting the registry to original specs) might have make me delay a bit. The advantages (and the very smooth 1+ hour update) aren't worth having my working UI crippled. Short form: I wouldn't try to update really old Win10 systems, or really marginal ones. Lock them on Win10 and plan for a new system in the near future.

These installations are simple IF everything is in step. For each version of MW (and WordPress, and the like) the version, the support software (PHP version, mostly) and the database structure have to match. IIRC, I had a bear of a time with one update to my MW installation because there was a change to the database structure. A clean, on-time update will do all these things for you, but if you miss a major revision or let the site 'rot' a while, it can be a bitch. I think the problem is that you database is out of sync with what the newer versions of the platform want, even though it's importing it. Try this: clean it all out. Find and install the last version of MW you had working. (You will probably have to change host settings to older versions of PHP, etc.) Import your database... and with luck, it will all work. Then IMMEDIATELY start the update process. Read the change notes, update PHP etc., do database conversions, etc. until it's all both working and up to date. No other way without some deep code/PHP/host skilz. (Even I'm shaky on those.)

See if MediaWiki has an update utility, or if someone has written one. I know they exist for most other database-driven apps. It's either a matter of running such a simple tool... or some deep-dive SQL rewriting. 😛
