  1. Thats a great write up and steps, but I was aiming that question at Two mostly. I was thinking maybe some RP classes for those deemed “bad”? But then thats a bit subjective…
  2. Oh no I wouldnt advocate to RP as a god haha, jusy sayin magic isnt the only origin to have gods I guess? Thats mostly what I was getting at
  3. So then if that's your takeaway, how are you going to solve it? What steps can be taken to alleviate the issues that you perceive? Will you enlighten the offender, offering an amiable solution that will, in your eyes, make them better RPers? I've seen diatribe after diatribe given, yet no concrete solution given to alleviate the issue. Well sure players can identify as gods, but is it so hard to believe that they don't ALL have to be magic or based in magic? What's so difficult to understand about tech or science origin creating gods? I mean, there's quite a few, again, Marvel characters of Mutation origin that are gods or god level. It can happen to other origins. Don't get me wrong, I suppose that I feel for the OP(though this IS only just RP so it's all really moot anyway, my points or otherwise), but that trying to effectively demonize(haha, ironic) an origin or pick apart a counter point to suit your argument against the origin, then claim you're not doing so, is..well, not great. EDIT: I don't have any animosity towards you or anyone, just...trying to get to a solution here.
  4. This is the only point I want to contest. Most folks, regardless of origin will pull from the two powerhouse comics, Marvel/DC. These two have easily a plethora of godmode characters compared to any of the fantasy that I've read(in fact, I'd love to find a fantasy novel where the character itself has god mod level power and use it to hand-waive everything, then they get more than one book, or that even that one book is very well received. Note, a NOVEL, not a comic.). Now, if we're talking ridiculous things such as coming back from the dead, magic does it differently than Sci-Fi, but they both do it pretty often. There are equal amounts of traps for inexperienced RPers to fall into for both Magic or Science. Point 4 has basis, point 3, not really.
  5. https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Mission:Tip_-_Whispered_Rumor Not a whole arc, sure, but a similar premise in one of the options. I should have been more clear on this point. I used tropes when I should have said, "stereotypes". Would have been more apt. Plus, despite what you've listed, those would be very interesting stories, and I'm sure would EASILY draw a large audience if done right( remember, people like different. It's why quirky things get such attention). Superheroic themes( which are part of the genre, and are conventions that are to be expected and can be subverted for even greater effect) are absolutely good to have in CoH for obvious reasons. It's not hard to get people interested in different, you just have to be willing to TRY to be different. Of course, my biggest chip on this event was the exclusion of the elf person. Wouldn't it of helped to let them know of this mistake? Twice now you've mentioned her, did you ever take the time to let her know what went wrong and why?
  6. What's this about a magic based guild I hear? >.> <.< To some slight fairness, TwoDee acknowledged the other origins having similar hand-waivy issues. Though I still agree a lot with what you're saying, even if I myself haven't gotten heavily involved with RP. The elf goddess person didn't kill the scene, the debate probably did. I mean, there's only so much to debate, you have a WMD to handle, right? You need a solution. All she did was just put the nail in the coffin. Take her out of the situation, and given the nature of what I read, someone else would of done the same thing in that group, eventually. Maybe not exactly like that, sure, but they still would of. I think if you wanted to salvage that session, maybe a simple sentence like what Vanguard wrote would of sufficed. I don't know all the tropes/superhero story stereotypes that have been going around in RP, but this has me thinking, because I'm sure this issue has occurred elsewhere; maybe it's time for more creativity on the story side of things? How many times can the same hooks be treaded upon? The same points of contention had? The same story beats and predictable climaxes created before people begin to tire and you get situations like the elf goddess? Hey, maybe even try it from the opposite angle; Why not try some story tropes from the villainous angle? Much harder to write for and forces creative solutions in my opinion. That, I think, can lead to less hand-waivy situations. If not, maybe get rid of any chance of a McGuffin(again, bit harder to do) to even try and force more problem-solving creativity? These are just some ideas I had. May have been tried already, again, not sure, but..eh, it's something.
  7. I've got a Rogue who is from a criminal island similar to the Rogue Isles. While he doesn't have a particular nemesis(yet) from my personal roster, he carries a negative view of Heroes and has actively spoke out against them on several occasions. He relishes the ability to enter into debates with many of them, only to openly point out their hypocrisy in front of all who would listen/watch, or, for the especially egotistical ones, utilize his curse magic to slowly but surely ruin them, if he is able. Some of this hatred is stemmed from him being what is considered a Doomsinger Warlock, one of the most sadistic of his kind, however, most of his hatred stems from their being no one to help on his island, and how other heroes knew much like the Isles how terrible it was, and still left them to fend for themselves. And, much like above, most of my chars are Rogues with a healthy smattering of vigilantes. I suppose a more direct rivalry would be between my freakishly strong Ice & Fire Mage and my sociopath avatar-esque shaman. He lets rip with his power, not caring about any killed when apprehending someone, and she of course is more hero-leaning of my vigilantes. They've butt heads several times, often with environmentally destructive results.
  8. Now this take I really like. Personally I do the same for my chars, but with a slight difference. The ‘main’ characters I have don’t even try to be heroic at all, well except one. They’re rogues. They’ve got powers, but they also have others they’re responsible to, and are young adults themselves. So what happens when you give a young adult magic?(as most of my chars are spellcasters with limitations) They use their magic for their own gain and to try and take care of those close to them, the Marvel BS can be saved for some other deluded cape, in their eyes. This, I think, gives them something to grow off of. Their main struggle is survival first of themselves and those close to them, then morality and greater purpose second.
  9. What even is a “grounded superhero”? Street level? And another question, why is it ALWAYS a hero? How is that interesting? If everyone’s the hero, who will be the villain? These are questions for the OP/others interested I suppose.
  10. I’ve never made mercs on a sidenote. Just how bad are they, really? EDIT: What I mean is, is it worse than say, petless kin MM with no SB or Fulcrum who only uses brawl?
  11. Im gonna have to disagree with the tanky bit. My blaster outsurvived a sent, on several occasions. Which means, my scrappers( with a survival secondary, as all their secondaries are meant to be), who outsurvive my blasters, leave them hideously in the dust. Esp my Kat/stone, which isn’t fair since I honestly think Stone on scrap is kinda busted, and has outsurvived several brutes( my blasters sometimes do this but so far it seems to have only been my Ice/Fire whose done this so), but I know for an objective fact no sent I’ve ever teamed with has ever even come close to her level of survival. Though I think Sents can be a nice change of pace and I still recommend new players try them. And vets too( assuming you love abusing procs).
  12. Blasters do not need to be glass cannons. In fact if they are, that's a build that needs severe revisiting. Mine tanked +2 Reichs and can, and(with the lack of taunting tanks it seems these days) will do it again. I gotta make a PSA one of these days :P, blasters=weak=build is bad
  13. I'm so dumb, please OP, disregard my previous post. This...this is the true path to DPS
  14. Top AoE ranged is Ice/Fire, Water is it's followup from my experience. Wonder if Ele/Shield Stalker is AoE Melee(though I suppose scrapper is kinda the same thing?)
  15. Step 1: Pick Rad/* Step 2: Be best armor in game Step 3: Convince yourself to make others after you’ve got everything on your Rad. May take having to have an extensive break from Rad.
  16. Poison provides the best ST debuffs in the game by level 2 or 4, and washes away the comp by 32/38. It is not, unless you have difficulty using it, an underperforming set in any capacity at all. Regen against maybe +4 with insps and prayer can be made to do what’s easy for any other armor set in the game. That’s not skill, that’s…it needs help.
  17. An interesting take. I usually have…decent characters. Powerful, but powerful because they honed their abilities. And even then, still human, still with some caveats( most of my 50s are magical in nature/casters, so…mana issues.). I have 4 characters who are, in my own headcanon, simply the most powerful beings to ever live in creation. But, due to that being no fun, a simple limitation I put is the veil keeping them just at the level of the local denizens( so, an incarnate now.), plus…they’re young adults and…okay it’s a whole lore dump but to get to the point, I personally think like you OP, it can be more fun to work around flaws. But, to toss those players a bone, I think it can kinda be viewed in the same light as those who like to play blatant marvel knockoffs or tell Marvel esque stories: It’s fun for some folks. EDIT: Also, minor point of interest I’d like to add, and a slight derailment. Overabundance of villain stories that should place the character firmly as a villain, or at least a rogue, but they’re heroes? Yeah ok. But, that’s probably my bias coming through. I have Rogues n Vigilantes, and at most…4? Hero-heroes
  18. That’s not at all what happened. This is overall useful advice I give others too, and you came in and for literally no reason started attacking the OP.
  19. So you can’t run two instances? If you can why the bashing of this thread? Plus they’ll all still be fine. Plenty of farms to go around! Not from me. (I immediately stop when I’m 50 and farming is mad exhausting). Sounds like you’re mad you can’t run two instances, no one makes this big a fuss unless it struck close to home.
  20. I love a good bit of positivity! I would say my favorite is my Ice/Fire, Pariah Equinox. For one, love my head canon for her, and for two, her build came together rather quickly. Capped def, Capped res. She is the reason I say Blasters are anything but squishy, she literally disproves their stereotype to concerning levels( tanked Reich at +2 on her. With a Brute on the team.) Plus! She has raw damage to spare. Great for days where I want to kinda just turn my brain off and get lots of kills.

    Mace vs Claws

Yeah I usually don’t like Pylons because they don’t factor in things like res and enemies running( very common issues for scraps unfortunately) but, if people wanna, I’ll just leave ‘em to it. After all, as long as the enemy’s dead that’s all that matters! (That’s right, imma rogue >:D)

    Mace vs Claws

I want to apologize for that, I didn’t mean to, or even think, that I would throw it off like this. Truly just meant to give my opinion on the set (Claws) but, I can understand I came off as harsher than intended. Then it kinda got a lil weird with the uhm, RL stuff posted. But back onto which one to make; Like I said, Mace. Burst imo will serve you better in today’s meta, and /WP comes with free recov!

    Mace vs Claws

I getcha on the first part but I do kind of have to question why you included that whole little middle part about RL in there. I mean, I get what you’re saying, just seems umm..a bit unnecessary, ‘was just apologizing for being crass about Claws. Thought we were just talking about a game 😅

    Mace vs Claws

I’m sorry if that came off as me picking a fight, that WAS my opinion I meant to convey, not to pick a fight. Honestly, thank you for the clarification. I thought I was conveying an opinion instead of a hostile stance, I can be a bit crass haha

    Mace vs Claws

Make a Mace. WP’s recovery can be more appreciated with Mace
