  1. I know I'm more excited probably for the ToT door-knocking, but I simply must also express my love of the snow-covered map for the Save Baby New Year mission. I spent tons of time on that map solo, the snow crunching with each step, the lowing of the Tuatha in the distance, the look of the mystery of the surrounding woods deepening as night fell and the lamps at either end of the bridge lit... The last winter season before shut-down, I had a character who could solo it and I think I ran it like 20 times. Holiday challenge: who here's excited for the Valtine's Day content? I'm not sure I've done it more than... twice maybe?
  2. All the best cats in this thread.
  3. Cryo has more range than the others?
  4. I have no idea how that happened, but if it's going to take a riot to get it changed, well, call me. I am, after all, a red-sider at heart.
  5. I haven't played DP much, but on a Sent I started (and seem to have abandoned), I found Cryo was useful for the slow effect, which seemed to be cutting down incoming damage a noticeable amount. But hey, like I said, I haven't played it much. Anyone know if I'm off base with that thinking?
  6. That's my take on what the Incarnate system did to the game, especially the closer it got to shut down. There are lots of takes out there.
  7. I hate to say it, but I didn't even see that addendum down there until right now. Nuther example of the importance of clear writing. And careful reading.
  8. I'd have believed you, no need to drag out the patch notes cut and paste, ha ha! But now I do wonder who's walking around in the game thinking there's more than just the one method to get into bodyguard mode...
  9. I frequently cut and paste stuff from these forums, suggestions and helpful tricks, into a document just to help me remember them for later, like if I see something good to know about Masterminds even if I'm not running one this week or whatever. So then sometimes later I go over the document to clean it up, consolidate information etc. Doing so just now, I found two contradictory claims about bodyguard mode that I was hoping could be cleared up for me by you wise guys: One section said bodyguard mode was "defensive follow" and that any "stay" or "goto" take pets out of bodyguard mode. The other section said that Stay Defensive / Goto Defensive / Follow Defensive are bodyguard mode. So which is it?
  10. Pooh-poohing the game over graphics is a weak attack. People still play video games from the 80s and you never hear anyone say "Oh, Pacman is great but it looks so dated!" Or Minecraft for that matter.
  11. Oh, I think quite knowingly poisoning people, whether being directed to do so or not, is quite villainous. "We've already established that, now we're just haggling over the price," as the old story goes.
  12. So how's the program been going?
  13. It's the game as I've played it in the past, and I've seen plenty of team wipes since we came back. We currently have a thicker population of CoH die-harders than the average back-then days shards did, I think. These are the folks who download builds and so on, who were already pretty knowledgeable about this game. The market's a bit easier to use to pick up what you want too, which is a change I'm going to argue for until my full-mask option turns blue, because it was frustratingly difficult to get into by the end of the game at shut-down. And hey, we also have a bunch of newbies, like the person who just posted here who needed directions on how to get to Peregrine Island because they didn't even know it existed (this is not a dig at that person whatsoever, we were all newbies at one time or another). I know I've been on several teams in the past since about May when I started playing again that had such new-comers, and you better believe we suffered team wipes; I've also seen plenty of them on teams of experienced players, Malta and Carnies are never going to be easy. As usual, anecdotal evidence isn't always the best indicator of something. And hey, if nothing else, come team with me and I promise you we'll die repeatedly!
  14. FYI, KW was an incomplete zone at shut-down and stuff like that (and other missions) never got set up there by the original devs, so it's a kind if empty zone. This is why there's no random bad guys scattered about, for instance.
  15. Better yet, lock yourself at 35 and team with other players in their teen levels. I I did this this morning (I was one of the teens, not the 35) and died twice and saw others drop off as well. But the day this becomes "a real challenge," because of Incarnates or whatever else you might cite, is probably the day I leave. I have trouble justifying wasting my time on a game when I get one-shotted by Malta as it is!
  16. It's been awhile of course, but my memory tells me that the devs objected to the idea - they were afraid it would be taken as mean-ness and picking on other players - so the person who started it first took off the toon names, then pulled the whole website soon after.
  17. I know the law has nothing to do with common sense, but seems to me that if NCSoft could get sued over people using HC to infringe copyright, then MicroSoft could be as well. And that makes no sense to me; see the first part of the first sentence again though.
  18. Always a fan of pumpkin head costumes, I have two so far, one for King Pumpkin Spice (Mercs/Nature MM) and Terminal Jack (TW/Elec tank). Plus this one's fitting for the game!
  19. I had always assumed my tank just made his because the idea was so cool.
  20. I have a Mercs/Nature MM rapidly closing in on 50 (I think 45 now?) and I agree.
  21. I think your take fails to take into account how AE got more and more broken over time as a storytelling tool. I was all over it for telling stories when it came out back in the day live and had to move on when the damage began to accumulate and was left unrepaired. The only example I can recall right now is the mechanic for dialogue: you walk onto a map and when you got close to some foes, or NPCs (or both), they'd spout whatever lines you put in for them. Both then and now, they spout it as soon as you walk onto a map. Sure, you could cut lines from a story, adjust in one way or another, but this was close to a third of your material that an author can get into the story/game, and certainly broke every story I'd already sunk hours into. I mean, my stuff might not be good, but try cutting out a third of any movie, TV show episode and see what you get. The only thing it still works well for is farming, far as I can tell. Until this is addressed, I don't foresee myself getting back into the AE system,
  22. It's been way too long since I played a Mind Dom (might have to do something about that...), but the reasoning I've heard voiced in the old days way "it doesn't need a pet, Mass Confusion makes your foes your pet." Seemed like a sensible take at the time, but as I said, it's been ages now.
  23. "That's not a setting sun, it's the dawn of a new day!"
  24. I hate you making me laugh at this.
