A Bit Disappointed Devs. Here is Why.
TemporalVileTerror replied to Solarverse's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This topic can't be fully discussed without broaching potentially political commentary . . . but . . . One reason we are seeing trends to accommodate a threshold of minimal barriers these days is the spirit of things like diversity and maximizing accessibility. The reasons for -that- might be cynical, misguided, or personal . . . but there's also math to back it up as the most beneficial in the long term. While efforts to obtain broad accessibility don't always hit the mark, and there are costs associated with everything, most of the time choices like these have been examined from cost effectiveness and resource allocation viewpoints (somewhere on a scale of "informally and haphazardly" to "thoroughly, rigorously, and scientifically"). The short of it: The Devs are trying to do the right thing. They won't always have the time, energy, and resources to do it . . . so they try to do the next best thing. That means some of us have to experience sacrifices to the things we want or enjoy to benefit people who would otherwise be harmed or denied access. And mathematically . . . the opportunity for people to play this game without barriers is well worth the minor cost of a few of us being disappointed. -
Two additional columns I added to that chart are: with Ranged Attacks, and with Mixed Damage Types. Which reminds me of another game mechanic I would like to see: Attack Sets with Randomized Damage Types. Such as the idea for Elemental Assault; where each time you attack, your Powers activate with a randomly selected Fire, Ice, or Energy Damage Type. Fun for chaotic character concepts, like sorcerers and mad scientists!

So, expanding my thoughts for @Galaxy Brain et al to consider using in the original post of this thread . . . Categorizing the Mechanics of ALL Power Sets This first stab is not at all comprehensive as I'm going to post with just the Melee Sets first, but I'm taking the shot at the goal of having this done up for all Sets . . . some day. I welcome everyone to explore my methodology and expand, or write their own. I'll admit straight away that these are based on the in-game "Show Info" panels, and do not appropriately factor in things like Build Up versus Rage, or other similar factors which very likely shift the values in the DPA categories significantly. Additionally, I'm aware that the info in the in-game Info panels aren't truly accurate to begin with, since things like Fiery Embrace or "Chance for" conditionals severely skew these values. Still . . . as a loose snapshot, I hope this examination of the mechanics of various Power Sets is at least an informative talking point in this discussion. What do you folks think? Should I try to expand on this, or are there too many errors and too many subjective viewpoints to really make it fruitful?

No Character available after trying to instal beta server
TemporalVileTerror replied to kiol571's topic in Help & Support
You're welcome! And this reminds me . . . I should probably prod the members of the Team who are working on the Homecoming Launcher. If I'm reading the file structure correctly, this might be an issue worth further investigation. @Number Six? Are the Live, Prerelease, and Beta clients all drawing from the -same- playerslots.txt file? That may be something to adjust if it's the case. -
Where is the Character ID Story Stored?
TemporalVileTerror replied to SylvanMansion's topic in Help & Support
They're stored somewhere on the character server database, I believe. To be precisely certain we may need to call @Buckets or one of the other Devs with server structure knowledge, or one of the community members who have dove in to that particular pit of code. -
New Powerset Suggestion : Machine Gun (Blast Set)
TemporalVileTerror replied to Darkneblade's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think the "gun fantasy" in this game needs to spread out some more, rather than remaining trapped within the Blast Sets. Maybe mix in some Melee ideas, @Darkneblade, and see about re-pitching it as an Assault Set for Dominators. After all, how many different ways can you really deliver "pew pew" in a single Set? -
Whip Melee, Because Whips are Cool
TemporalVileTerror replied to Steampunkette's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I don't want to poo-poo the suggestion at all, and I would certainly accept a Whip Melee Set. But I feel inclined to say that Melee Sets are still MASSIVELY outstripping all other Sets for representation. Assault could use some love, and Control. Both of those would make good spaces for a Whip Set to show up, I think. But as far as Whips in Melee? I like the idea behind Strangle! Not sold on the name . . . but "Bondage" might be a little too on-the-nose. In either event, I think it should be a high-mag Hold, but add an unresistable Immobilize for the same duration, just in case you hit a target who is "lol, nope" about being Held. And regardless of which type of Set it is that Whips ultimately get some more use out of, I think something like @Steampunkette's "Strangle" should show up for sure. -
It honestly feels like an issue has been challenged . . . to come up with THE worst idea possible. Hmm . . . let's see . . . Experience points naturally decay over time, so you have to constantly earn or else you de-level. Logging out only slows it down to 1/10th the decay speed. But, at the same time, every person you team with has a random chance to end up siphoning the Experience points you lose . . . you just don't know unless they say so.

The meshes and skeletons were added very close to sunset. We were probably going to see some more if things didn't get shut down.

Is there a beginner's guide to roleplaying?
TemporalVileTerror replied to CommanderKane's topic in Roleplaying
Oyllo there, and there's no need for forgiveness! We all started out as new at some point. While there isn't one universal beginner's guide, here are some links which may help you. I've put them in roughly the order where I think the first few links should be the most helpful. If you have any pointed or particular questions thereafter, I'm certain the community will be happy to help! Please, never be afraid to ask questions. There are a lot of folks in the community who are happy to help, no matter what. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/6464-tipsamptricks-for-roleplayers/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/9999-new-to-rping/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/6611-what-kind-of-rp-you-want/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/19633-role-playing-questions/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/10642-is-there-a-site-for-hosting-various-homecoming-rp-based-stuff https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/7179-question-regarding-character-traitsbio-vs-gameplay-reality/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/13321-help-my-character-did-something-uncharacteristic/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/20878-community-project-the-roleplay-scale/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/9312-what-are-your-thoughts-on-long-form-story-arcs/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/1433-the-big-question-of-continuity/ https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/4788-how-does-rp-affect-your-character-build/ I hope this is helpful, and look forward to seeing you around the cities! -

Wow the first season of Stargate SG1 is bad
TemporalVileTerror replied to DougGraves's topic in Off-Topic
I'm still surprised that no one has made a youtube video of "Jaffa! Kree!" where they splice in some Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. / Guardians of the Galaxy / Captain Marvel. -
Are alternate powers within powersets possible?
TemporalVileTerror replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Possible? Yes. @Captain Powerhouse approved? Nope. At least last I heard. -
One Wish Granted (COV/COH) (WWYW2021)
TemporalVileTerror replied to Troo's topic in General Discussion
One more? You have to try Darkness Control as a Dominator AND Darkness Control as a Controller. And so many potential variations therein! Can't stop yet! Can never stop . . . ever . . . -
Looking for a Base Builder to Hire (Everlasting)
TemporalVileTerror replied to Andreah's topic in Base Construction
Congratulations! And hey . . . if the builder is looking for more work . . . I've got several billion Inf and a LOT of ambitious ideas in need of execution. Just sayin'. -
One Wish Granted (COV/COH) (WWYW2021)
TemporalVileTerror replied to Troo's topic in General Discussion
Alternatively, maybe the Shades treatment from Darkness Control would be good? Cast the Controller Pets on a specific Target, which they will focus on until it's down, AND THEN resort to aggro'ing everything in a 30km radius. -
Yeaaaaaah. They be ex-pen-sive.

Hence the inclusion of the word "Combat" in the name: I want my Toggles and Powers to still be accessible. I just want to use the original default movement speed from when the game was originally released.

No Character available after trying to instal beta server
TemporalVileTerror replied to kiol571's topic in Help & Support
Ok. Are your missing character problems still persisting, @kiol571? If so, open your file explorer and locate \accounts\[USER NAME]\playerslot.txt and delete that TXT file or its contents. (Don't worry! This isn't a critical file, and will be replaced the next time you boot up the game, but if you want to be extra cautious, rename the file instead of deleting it.) The next time you boot up your account, all characters on that account should get reset to their default order, revealing any hidden characters that may have got double-stacked or thrown in to an invalid slot number.
