I plan to do a bigger write-up of my thoughts, but tonight is (virtual) tabletop roleplay night for me, so I won't have time to compose everything I want to say on this subject just yet. In the meantime, four mechanics I would like to see explored: 1: Dopples in a Survival Set. Tier 9 allows you to drop two replicas of your character, who stand and Taunt. Pressing the Tier 9 Power again before the Dopples' timer run out, you swap places with your closest Dopple. Tie this in to a Set which focuses on Positional Defense and built-in Combat Teleport. (Quantum Defense. Great for speedsters, time travellers, and teleporters!) 2: AoE Mode Toggle Set. A Blast or Control Set where pretty much every Power is Single Target by default. However, activate the Toggle (likely unlocked at Tier 4 / Level 6 Primary / Level 10 Secondary) and suddenly you're using three times the Endurance per Power, BUT those Powers are now AoEs. (The Grenade Control Set that I never finished working on would have been based on this gimmick.) 3: Limited Ammo Set. Blast or Assault Set where the Ranged Powers share a single overall cooldown, but each Power can draw from a number of Shots before that cooldown gets triggered (like Combat Teleport / Jaunt). Build Up would be replaced with Reload: Pop it to reset the cooldown on the Ranged Attacks, and get a little Damage Buff too for your trouble. The Set would also need some "filler" Powers, just so not EVERYTHING is tied to that one cooldown. Works best with an Assault Set, since the Melee Powers could operate without the Ammo. (Hello Shotgun Assault!) 4: Delayed Gratification Set. Press a Power once to start charging it up. Press it again to Activate it. If you Activate before it's fully charged, then you get slightly-below-average Damage per the general average DPA calculations. If you let the Power FULLY charge before Activation, then you not only get bonus Damage, but also a Status Effect. (Honestly, this is what I think would have made Titan Weapons -fun,- at least for me. The existing Momentum mechanic is more of a "start-and-stop" halting gameplay, and that's not really my jam.)

Agreed, @Black Zot. Perhaps either in the form of a class of Missions which VERY BOLDLY WARN THE PLAYER OF IMPENDING AMBUSHES, or as an optional Notoriety toggle in the difficulty settings.
-
I do like the idea of enemy groups having grudges against player characters, and dispatching ambushes from time to time, but I don't think it should happen while idle / AFK. Sometimes real-life emergencies come up, and people have to drop the game. It would be salt on the wounds to come back to find that some NPCs came and defeated the player-character in what would have otherwise been a safe-enough spot. So, alternatively: Launch the ambushes right after the player defeats half of an outdoor mob of enemies. That way we can assume the player is still engaged with the game, and will theoretically be standing in roughly the same spot for a little while longer, giving the ambush time to catch up and start their attack run.

Hard disagree. Dead Parrot sketch may be one of their most iconic, but the Pythons have a plethora of titles which could take "best" from it in a heartbeat. . . . . . . does this thread have -anything- to do with City of Heroes? Should we find some tangential link to ensure it's worth being in General Discussion and not Off-Topic? Hmm . . . https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Ingame_References Hmmmm . . .

Discussion: Improvements to the Warriors
TemporalVileTerror replied to Piecemeal's topic in Developer's Corner
I think the Demon Prince from Vincent Ross' arc, Botis ( https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Vincent_Ross#Meet_with_Botis ), might make a little more sense than Bat'Zul, @Replacement. Botis is a broker. A deal-maker. A manipulator. Bat'Zul is just a very big, very angry fiery rage-monster trapped in a mountain. But, yeah. Some interplay between the Legacy Chain and the Warriors could be really quite interesting. Especially if the player comes in to it thinking "oh no! The Warriors are attacking the Legacy Chain base!" Then the player shows up and finds out "nah, chill. We're just having a meeting about shared interests and possibly uniting to deal with a dire threat." -
There is the triumphant one-hand raise animation that might be a good replacement.

Has there been a solid, deadpan comedy like Airplane in the last ten years? The last twenty?! You know . . . something where puns and grammatic ambiguity play a big role in the punchline, and deliveries are made with the no nonsense grimness you expect from an Oscar-bait drama. It feels like Hollywood and mainstream television have to make their comedy wink at the 4th wall directly these days. I'm not against that, in principle . . . but there's something to be said about saturation.

Eco-Friendly Powerset Recycling!
TemporalVileTerror replied to Alchemystic's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Hand-in-hand, absolutely, but still distinct enough to merit separation for the purposes of organizing thoughts and discussion. Once you start the thread, I'll hop right in! Lots of big ideas to share there. But to try to gently steer this thread back on course . . . How many Javelin attacks are there with the Cimerorans? Is it just the one Pilum Power? (If not making a whole Set out of that, could we at least have Pilum-toss animations for things like Archery, Trick Arrow, and Tactical Arrow?)- 792 replies

Discussion: Improvements to the Warriors
TemporalVileTerror replied to Piecemeal's topic in Developer's Corner
No need for war, even if they are the Warriors, @Piecemeal. Sometimes you have break-ups where everyone just sort of nods and goes their separate ways. Maybe you still pine for them from time to tim- er . . . um . . . ok. Maybe a little too real here. Moving on! HEY LOOK! Funny video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-YBiOaXE3Q But yeah. What I proposed up there would basically mean that the Classic Warriors hold the faction at the lower and mid-tier levels, while the Neo Warriors pick up things in the 30+ range. You then leave the existing "cameo missions" of the Classic Warriors in the higher level content unchanged, but introduce entirely new content with the Neo Warriors. -
Eco-Friendly Powerset Recycling!

@Galaxy Brain . . . new thread, please! It's an important question for General Discussion, which you can then link from here. Having to jump in to this conversation in the middle of the Eco-Friendly thread is a little haphazard.- 792 replies

Discussion: Improvements to the Warriors
TemporalVileTerror replied to Piecemeal's topic in Developer's Corner
Here's a safer link for you, @Cutter: https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Ashwin_Lannister#Go_talk_with_Alexander.2C_and_do_whatever_you_can_to_bring_him_into_protective_custody I would recommend editing your message. The "fandom" site has been known to distribute malware through the advertisements there on occasion. But yeah! Wonderful reference to existing lore! -
The potential issue was broached before: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/22631-hey-devs-can-you-please-some-or-all-of-this-to-hc/?tab=comments#comment-266701 I've yet to see an official answer, though. Like many things which would really benefit the community in knowing, having some kind of explicit official statement on the matter of the standards which are being operated under could let the community know if it's actually worthwhile being creative and diligent workers, or entirely pointless.

I suppose that might be quite the impasse. I can think of WAY more reasons to casually visit all of those locations with more ease in this setting than a nightclub. Night clubs seem like planned destinations to me, not casual hangouts. I suppose that's just my hang-up, but I have heard some other players lament similar concerns.

Sorta already did: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/20019-roleplay-pet-peeves/page/10/?tab=comments#comment-335226

Yes . . . but to the point of it: Can't we sometimes do that networking at a place that -isn't- a bar/nightclub? Please?
-
I know I haven't got around to implementing my incentivization programme for it, but I do encourage folks to consider checking out: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/clubs/14-roleplay-a-day/ There are a lot of lovely areas to try to encourage fellow players to conduct roleplay which aren't night clubs. Mind you, I'm not against the night clubs. I've tried a few times, but I just don't "vibe" in those places. Some things I just can't roleplay my way through, I guess. It's strange, in a way. I can slip in to the role of half a dozen bickering characters in a single scene, all with different motivations and plans and personal experiences . . . but trying to "relax" in a night club just sets my teeth on fire. In roleplay, or in the real world. Doesn't matter.

LFG Imperious TF transport send me to Khallisti
TemporalVileTerror replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Check to be certain that you de-toggled the Market Crash. If you have more than one Task Force or Trial Toggled on in the LFG, then you may get spit out at one you didn't intend for. I've never tested to see if this was random, or if it prioritizes the Trials/Task Forces in a particular order. Hmm . . . maybe it's time for some SCIENCE! -
How do you know when you have found something special?
TemporalVileTerror replied to Sakai's topic in General Discussion
There's no such thing as clutter. Just "stuff that hasn't been organized yet." . . . is now a bad time to admit that I might be a bit of a hoarder in real life?
