I think you answered your question right there. With all the Def/Res IO set bonuses, and Incarnates, and Pool Powers, you could almost certainly get a ridiculously OP Regen/ tank that basically couldn't be killed. I know a lot of people mentioned alphas, but I'm not convinced that would be a problem. For most mobs, even at 4x8 the alpha hardly bothers my tricked out controller, it shouldn't be a problem for a tricked out regen tanker. When going in on a hard target, pop a few Insp to ward off the alpha, then the rest would be cake. Sure, an SO'ed Regen tanker would probably underperform a SO'ed anything else tanker, but with both equally tricked out, it seems like the Regen will come out on top.

This is a very solid choice, considering your criteria. This is not enough and relying on the procs is going to disappoint you (I know from experience) Do not slot the sets at all. Slot just the procs. In general, when slotting a non-damage power, 5-slot it with the purple set for the recharge bonus, and add in a damage proc if you can afford the extra slot. For any set with a damage component, slot it for damage. Try to use damage sets with a +recharge bonus. The thing is, all your controls are already plenty long, no reason to extend them, and you need the damage more. Otherwise, you can end up standing there all day plinking at an opponent who can't hit back.

I have a Mind/Psi and a Dark/Savage and I agree with all this. Dark will be better for most playstyles.
-
This has been tradition for me on Controllers since back in Live. LOL turns out they were right, eh? For me, this is as good a reason as any to play a powerset
-
LOL well dang, I was just guessing from what I read in Mids. Glad to hear I'm actually kinda smart.
-
So I was just browsing this powerset and I noticed that is just debuff after debuff. And mostly decent numbers, sometimes crazy numbers. I guess the main reason /Rad is considered better is because of the self-buffs, yeah? If you were going with /Traps for an AV killer, what would you combine it with in your Primary and Epic?
-
Also, I am pretty sure that at some point I am going to swap to plant/rad dom. I have found that I am just a really bad buffer. I really tried to give it a shot with this one, but I spend most of the runs just thinking, should I buff now or attack now? Probably just me, but I think I'll have more fun with a dom. Also, I have to admit, I've become addicted to that whole "immune to mezz and knock" thing that doms get. Anyway, I'll run it up outside of the group, so you don't have to wait for me. Just rambling now LOL

That was insane. I have done that TF many, many times, and I have never seen those PPs go down so fast. I think out of the entire TF, I saw 2 of them get off their HAXMOG (Moment of Glory, the old broken style, massive +DEF temp buff). The rest were toast before they even knew what happened. Quick build question about Plant/ for everyone. What powers do you usually skip? I mean, in almost every other Primary Powerset, there is at least one or two skippable powers, so you can make room for a few pool powers. But here, I just don't see one I want to do without? On a dominator, I could see skipping strangler because your ST damage rotation is already going to be solid. On controllers, I usually take both the ST hold and ST immob to give me a bit of a ST rotation. I mean, you could maybe kind of skip Spore Burst, if you are going to mostly play on teams, especially on all plant teams. But, it does come in handy soloing, and could even come in handy on a particularly crazy team that tends to over-aggro (*cough*plants*cough*). This is especially true on my Plant/Kin, where I also don't want to skip any of my secondary powers! So, I dunno, what do you all do?
-
Okay, these are all good thoughts. I have not specifically noticed which critters this happens on, I will keep an eye out. I have done it in reverse order, but I have not noticed if it works better one way or another. I will have to keep an eye out for that, too. Thanks!
-
There, I fixed that for you. I agree with the others that Grav is a set that goes better with Controllers than Dominators. And Coy here is dead on, I have a Grav/Storm and it is ridiiiiiiculous. When you include the control/mitigate value of KD in storm, you end up with a ridiculous amount of it. I mean /Storm is good with most any primary, so that's a given. Then with the extra damage it adds to an already damage-y primary, you really do get a blastroller. You've got fire-and-forget AOE DoT's. You can set those off to manage the minions, then just ST the bosses till they are down, which is quick with Propel, and by that time the minions are pretty much toast.
-
Yup, I definitely see where you're coming from. Elec does seem a bit lower than some of the others I've tried. I paired it with EA, which chews through enemies fast enough.
-
So, I've been kind of noticing something odd as I played my Dark Control, so I went and tested it today, and sure enough it is happening. If I pop Heart of Darkness (Stun) followed by Living Shadows (Immobilize), the targets are NOT immobilized! They continue to wander/slide around as if they were simply stunned. It's not a huge issue, but sometimes they wander far, and that gets annoying. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a known issue? Is it a bug? A feature? Does it only happen to Dark control? Anybody? Bueller?
-
Nope, it is an unlisted AOE. I'm not sure the shape of the AOE, but it definitely hits multiple targets. It's weird because even in game, it takes ST melee sets, not PBAOE. As far as I can tell, it hits at least 4 targets, if they are in range. Might be more, but in my limited testing time, it was hard to tell. And, if you hit them from far, it does serious damage. I have noticed that sometimes, when activated, it will do the animation, and teleport effect, and the damage, but does not actually move you. Does Savage Leap have this problem, as well?
-
I'll recommend Elec/Psi here. Elec/ has Conductive Field which is a nice +Rec/+Regen toggle aura. Turn it on and forget it. /Psi has Drain Psyche which is a PBAOE clicky that gives you +Rec/+Regen, also.
-
As a fellow Controller fan, this is exactly how I feel. I have the same issue. I never liked Fire Control on a Controller, and I also can't seem to get into it on a Dominator. Which is funny because my other main is a F3 Tanker, so it's not like I don't like to see things burn...
-
Dose Savage Leap have the mechanic where it does more damage based on the distance leaped, like Feral Charge does? And, for those that are saying Savage Leap is their favorite, try Feral Charge on a Dominator and you will see. Being able to instantly pop from dead enemy to dead enemy really speeds up kill speed.
-
Yo Planters! What is up for tonight? My plant is still at level 35. Is that going to be high enough for the TF/SF for tonight? Also, I'm thinking of swapping it from Controller to Dominator. Trying to decide what secondary to go with. I'm thinking maybe Radiation Assault for the irony. Although, Martial looks like a fun one, too.
-
I do Static Field + Chain Fences + Jolting Chain, then run in with Conductive Aura and start wailing away. They might wake up, but will most likely go right back to sleep. Even if they do wake up, they probably won't have enough end to do much. I rarely have any issue with too many waking up and attacking. Meantime, you lay waste with your assault attacks. If anybody is a particular problem, they get a Tesla Cage to the face and that fixes that right quick. Jolting Chains is also pretty spammable. Spamming it keeps them flopping pretty hard.
-
...icted to DOMINATION!!! BAHAHAHAHA I CAN LOCK YOU AND YOU CAN'T LOCK MEEEEEE BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA ... Erm... ahem... uh... I mean, I think I have a problem. I can't stop making Dominators. I now have 3 Doms and already plans for at least one more. I never even played one on Live. I've never had real altitis. But, now I just keep thinking of new Dominator combos! Dombos! 3 is more than I have of any other AT and I still want more MORE MORE. So far, I have a Mind/Psi/Dark, oldest of the dom squad. Terrify + Drain Psyche + Soul Drain, then I can just randomly push buttons and it doesn't matter, everything dies. A Dark/Savage/Mu, second dom 50. I only took the melee attacks from Savage. Probably my favorite toon to play out of all of them. Living Shadows + Fearsome Stare + Feral Charge (OP) + Heart of Darkness, then just shred them up. Newest to the field is my Electric/Energy/Ice. She just made 40. I only took the ranged attacks from EA. Also a lot of fun to play, and only just realizing how ridiculously uber Elect Control is. Next one up is an Earth/Earth/Undecided. I look forward to all the Power Upped -DEF. After that, I'm not sure. I do wish we had more Primaries to choose from, but I'll worry about that when I get 50s with all of them. Now, I want to start doing some All-Dom full-difficulty TFs. So, If anyone is down, I'm @V.V in game.

Any attack will interrupt the effect temporarily temporarily temporarily TEMPOR-FREAKING-ARILY. Static Field OP, pls nerf.

I totally get where you are coming from. I only have a couple blasters, and only one I play with any regularity, and this is partly why. To me, it seems like there are so many redundant attacks. With enough recharge, you can easily cycle 3-4 main attacks. My solution on my main blaster was to take /TA as my secondary. It has 2 toggles and 1 auto, reducing the number of clickies I need to choose from. In other blasters, I tend to focus on either ranged or melee. If I am going blapper, I skip a few of the redundant ranged attacks. If I am going blaster, I skip most or all of the melee attacks. I'll fill in some Pool powers, instead. Leadership and/or Fighting Pools are good . Summon Teammate is a power that will make you popular with teammates, and you don't need to burn any enhancements on it for it to be useful. Also, depending on the powerset combinations you take, you can have more options than just damage. You can do damage+controllish or damage+debuffish. I play my BR/TA as a blastroller. She has some good controls, so I set up my trays similar to the way I set up my dominators. So, that could be an option.
-
This is true. And I'm not saying it's a bad power, all I'm saying is that it never seemed to come up for me. Solo, my rotation goes Static Field > Chained Fences > Jolting Chain, then run in with Conductive Aura going and roll ST rotation on them individually, Tesla Cage > Blast > Blast, until they are all down. Secondary is EA, so most of that is ST. Even in lower-level team combat, controls are mainly for convenience, rather than safety, so I found that Chained Fences + Jolting Chain generally covered everything needed. Kept targets grouped and flopping. I use Tesla Cage on runners. Then I am free to just blast away. On teams, I tend to keep Static Field and Paralyzing Blast on reserve in case of over-pull. And, they have saved our butts a few times. And remember, Chained Fences, Jolting Chain, and Conductive Aura do not break sleep, so that's not an issue soloing. I do see how I could swap Static Field out and use Synaptic Overload, instead. I guess I just got used to using Static Field because it comes so much earlier. But I might do that.
-
I could fit it in, but it seemed pointless. I had it, but never used it. With everything immobilized and flopping, confusing them seemed redundant. And the build's kill-rate is faster than the contagion rate. In teams, it is even less useful as they rampage through everything pretty fast. I guess if I ran solo on a higher level of difficulty it could come in handy in delaying extra mobs. But, on normal difficulty, it wasn't necessary.

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT ELECTRIC CONTROL??? I just got my Elec/EA to the mid-30s, and omg she already rocks. There's a heavy bias against Elec Blast in the blaster community, so I naturally figured that Elec Trol also underperformed. BOY WAS I WRONG! We'll just set aside the end-draining qualities because there is debate over how useful those are, but I will mention that she can quickly floor enemy's end and keep it there without even being slotted for it, but we aren't going to mention that. Let's start with the eminently spammable Chain Fences + Jolting Chains! Now, any controller worth their salt knows that Immob + KD ~ Hold. But most AOE holds have a recharge of about a day and a half, making them only conditionally useful. Here we have a pseudo-hold that is up every few seconds, and does a little damage as a bonus. It's crazy good! Then you have the uber Static Field! This is not any plain-old one-time sleep attack. You lay out a field and it KEEPS PUTTING FOES TO SLEEP!!! Whaaaat??? Not only that, it slows them, drains their end, AND transfers some of that end to your teammates. I mean, seriously? But, it gets better! Conductive Aura does not wake them up, and nor does the above mentioned Chain Fences + Jolting Chains! Sometimes I sleep a group, and just for a fun run up and stand there with CA running and watch their blues drop to nothing, but we're not mentioning that. Then you've got your normal old ST Immob and hold which are both decent, your long-recharge AOE hold for when stuff goes south. But, your pets! OMG, okay Singularity is my favorite pet, it is smart, powerful, generally well-behaved. In my opinion it outperforms every other pet I've tried. But, I have to give some kudos the gremlins. Yeah, they are stupid aggro-monsters, but THEY DO SOME DAMAGE. I've seen them take down yellow-cons all by themselves. These little buggers are serious! I feel like I don't even need to mention the awesomeness of having a +Rec +Regen aura, but I will give a shout out to Conductive Aura. It's like having a perma Drain Psyche going! I skipped the confuse because it does not fit the concept, but there you go, another hard AOE control, if you want it. I think my only minor complaint about the set is that the cast times seem a little slow, but even that hardly matters since all your opponents are flopping around drooling, anyway. No real point here, just had to gush for a minute!

Hah, I am currently leveling nearly this exact same build/concept. Based it on my Force blaster in CO named Vortex. For her, I am going with the Cold Epic Mastery mainly for Hoarfrost and Hibernate, just as contingency powers, in case I get too crazy (which I often do). Mu is also a solid choice. I'll post my build below, but just be aware that it is probably different than most people would advise. I went mainly ranged for concept, which meant skipping the awesome melee attacks. But, I also need to worry less about my melee and AOE def. I also procced for some fun effects, and less for straight up damage. I may change that in the future, but for now that's the plan. Perma-Dom can be achieved with about 80% total global recharge. That's not too hard to get to without Hasten, but you have to build for it. If you use Hasten, it is even easier to achieve. I like to get both perma-hasten and perma-dom, which means you need about 70% global recharge, and to double-slot hasten with 50+5 recharges. I just hit the mid-30s with mine and she is already rocking. I'm actually gonna start another thread to talk about the awesomeness of ElecTrol. I can see that by 50, with a full complement of purples and such, she is going to be a MONSTER. Anyway, here's the build.
