Psh, don't listen to the naysayers. Do what you want. Dom is the dom of ATs, so whatever combo you put together is going to put all your teammates to shame.
-
So, back before the snap, I tried one dom, Fire/Ice or Ice/Fire, I don't remember. Hated it. I main a controller, but I hate buffing. I remade it in Homecoming and it rocks. Grav/Storm/Fire. But, I wanted something more damagey, so I tried a couple of blasters. UGH. Not for me, I'm a control-freak (my other main is a tanker). So, I gave Dominators another try and have never looked back! Elec/Nrg, Dark/Sav, Plant/Rad, Mind/Psi. All of them have MUCH pwnage. And now, thanks to this thread, I just got my Fire/Earth to 50. I mean, come oooooon! It's ridiculous! Sure, it is energy hungry, but that can be dealt with easily enough. This is the build (I know, I know, but muh Ice Mastery! It already has plenty of attacks, and controls, so self-buffs looked like the better choice.)
-
I mean, if you don't like them don't play them. But don't blame your inexperience on the AT. Dominators kick @$$ pretty much all the way up if played right.

How fast are the steamrollers in your town??? I'd be scared to go outside LOL Yeah, that's basically it.
-
Interesting, I read that and, as someone who mains a tanker, immediately thought, "what a garbage tanker. Clearly someone who wanted to play a scrapper, but not skilled enough."
-
This is exactly right. I think that steamroll also sometimes includes the idea of not dawdling. No matter what, steamroll clearly does not mean skip as much killing as possible and get to the end as quickly as possible. First, that is what a "speedrun" is. Second, is that even what a steamroller does? No. A steamroller crushes everything in its way without stopping, but is not known to go out of its way to crush stuff that is not in front of it. Sounds like you just had a couple jerks on the team. It's also possible they did not speak good English and have no idea what an actual steamroller is. That being said, I tend use my words to be clear. Typing additional words to make sure everyone is clearly on the same page is not a big deal for me. That way I don't run into these issues.

Victoria V2.7104 "WHAWT!? Yeah, that's what I thowght!" {RP Friendly. Usually "on"} "Cawll me Viic" Victoria speaks with a very odd accent and claims to be a native of the Shadow Shard. She has ebony black skin that almost seems to suck in the light, with an incredibly, almost inhumanly muscular physique, though her size is more sleek than bulky. She is friendly, though quiet, and is often visibly tense, as if she expects an attack at any second. Her smile looks more like a snarl and her laugh sounds more like a growl. Despite that, if treated kindly, she can be quite good company. Background Born into a ninja-like clan in a world of despair, literally ripped apart by violence. Victoria was trained from childhood in the stealthy combat arts in an elite group of female warriors (some say assassins). She hated all the discipline and sneaking around. She took to combat training, but preferred her enemies to see (and feel) it coming. In addition, she was bigger and stronger than the other girls and preferred to practice with heavier weapons, usually a large branch. She adapted the stealthy fighting style to the larger tool. With her large hands and muscular body, she could not master the small weapons and delicate techniques of her sisters. Finally, the directors got disgusted by what they perceived as her incompetence and threw her out into the Shadow Shard Wilds. Having no family or friends, she found the only way she could survive was to join up with a local gang. The gang leader quickly noticed her skill and gave her more proper heavy-weapons training. She spent a few years of wandering the floating land chunks, both marauding and helping people. She met the few people who worked out there, making friends and enemies. She knows all the good and bad spots, friends and enemies. Eventually, after one particularly bad encounter, she was "rescued" by the allied expeditionary force and taken to Firebase Zulu. General Hammond had heard of her, of course, the ebony wild woman who some considered hero, some villain. Having been in the Shard for so long, he tended to be protective of the native humans, so he did not report her capture to Portal Corp right away. His motivations were not entirely altruistic, a person with this much native knowledge and the abilities she had could be useful to his own mission. Victoria had never ventured that close to Firebase Zulu, much less inside, having been warned as a young girl that evil resided there. But, General Hammond was persuasive and kind, offering to house her for as long as she needed to recover. Finding no immediate threat, she decided to look around. This was one of the few places in the Shard that she did not know intimately. The soldiers all had strict orders to treat her as an honored guest, which really wasn't much of an effort for them. After she was recovered, General Hammond offered to give her some regular work, so she could stay at Firebase Zulu while making some of what passed for money in the Shard. After she did a few missions and proved her mettle, Hammond decided he had put off the inevitable long enough. He had to let Portal Corp and the allied command know about her. He talked to Victoria about it. Of course, she had heard of this other dimension from some of the outlying humans, but was never sure if it really existed or not. She was excited about the opportunity to see something different than the same swirling sky. So, General Hammond and a few of his troops took her through the portal to Portal Corp. And that was when all hell broke loose. Alarms screamed. Lights flashed. Sirens wailed. People screamed. Technicians fled. Even General Hammond was surprised by the commotion. Lab coats came running. Portal Security showed up. Then Vanguard showed up, Arachnos, Circle of Thorns, a number of Heroes, Crey, and finally Nemesis. A MASSIVE battle ensued. Under the shelter of all the chaos, General Hammond helped his new ward back into the Shadow Shard. Needless to say, Victoria was extremely rattled, and fled into the nether reaches of the Shard. Once she is in her home element, she is nearly impossible to find. The battle destroyed the Shard portal on the Prime side. Once they got it fixed, Hammond refused to help any of the groups find her. In fact, he stood in direct defiance of orders and shut the power off on the Shard side of the portal, until they all agreed to "calm the F down," as he put it. Eventually they did, or at least realized they could not do anything without his help, and decided to compromise. He agreed to allow a few of them in at a time to search for her, if they allowed him to tag them and follow their movements. They also had to agree to turn over information for any other discoveries they made to Hammond. Surprisingly, nobody has found her, yet, while General Hammond's information on the Shadow Shard has grown extensively. What none of them know is that Victoria has learned to move between the dimensions without use of the Portal Corp portal.... The real way to do this is Elec/Elec Dominator. The failure of electric blaster to use -End to decent effect as been discussed at length in this very forum. However, doing so on an Electric Dom is super easy with just Conductive Aura. /Electric Assault does not have quite as many melee attacks as Electricity Manipulation, but still has enough. Plus, you get actual control on a Dominator, rather than semi-control on a Blaster. Then, of course, there are the glories of domination... Either way, something to consider is that just because you take a ranged attack does not mean you need to use it at range. If you want to be a melee blaster, just play it that way. No reason you cannot just call down Thunderous Blast at your location, instead of a distant enemy.

Hey Tanks! Couple of quick Hami Tank build questions. Is it true the IO set bonuses are NOT unresistable? So, any IO set Heal bonuses will be cancelled out by his Debuff, right? Second, I'm working on a Dark/Dark build. In Dark Regeneration, do I need to slot an Accurate Healing set like Touch of the Nictus, or better to slot a regular healing set like Preventative Medicine?
-
Seriously? Do you not know about the P2W?
-
Just a reminder that the Jello Shooters channel is live and Global! Little used these days, but if more people join up and use it, then it will be used. Great way to reconnect, and since changing shards is so easy these days, easy to get together to run missions.
-
No. Next?
-
You could just fly up? Move? Fight them for lewts? The thing I love best about this complaint is it boils down to, "the Rikti bothered me while I was standing around doing nothing."
-
Oh wow. Seems like every one I go to (which is not many, tbh) takes foreeeeeeeever. I like the idea of it being quick and dirty! (Get it? "Dirty" because we are planters, and planters plant in dirt... aaaaaaaaanyway)
-
What did you take in it's place?
-
These points are related. I do the same, pick AT for character theme and playstyle. I tried building a couple of Brutes focusing on damage, rather than armor. They still had decent armor, of course, but not near Tank level. The problem I have found with this is that lots of people expect Brutes to tank. So, I have decided to stick with Tanks to tank, and Scrappers to damage. Yeah. I ran the whole DA Arc, up to and including Mot, on 4x8xAV, solo on my F^3. I did need to have a little help with Mot and got a Sentinal to come duo it with me. Even he commented on my damage output. But, now you guys are making me want to try an /En tank, I wonder if it does more.
-
Oh, nobody has really answered this completely. The main reason they were so plentiful on Live was because they were the easiest to solo on Blue side. Not the fastest, not the most efficient, but the easiest. I guess I could say the newb-friendliest. Some might argue that it was Scrappers, but those took some skill to solo. I'm talking about just if you were completely new and wanted to just pound stuff without sucking dirt all the time, tank was the go to. There were MANY MANY bad tankers on Live, people who usually soloed and had no actual idea how to tank. That is much less true now. It is true that Brute is the most popular, now. Even aside from farming, you are looking at the same thing as before.Brute is now the easiest newbie soloer or for people who just want to pound stuff without worrying about IOs and strategy and all that shit. Still very tough, with a bit more damage than a similarly poorly slotted tank. Plus, it just sounds neato to be a "Brute". (Has anyone else noticed that Brutes costumes tend to be the most massive size possible?)
-
Damn, I'm surprised to see so much agreement with my Brutes-are-blah stance! The difference between in-game and forums, I guess. Smart people use the forums to be informed. One thing I've never really understood with the pro-Brute crowd. They always talk about how you can match Tankers armor levels on Brutes, they both max out at 90 Res. While this is true, you have to build to it a lot harder on Brutes, potentially giving up other stuff, like damage. I will say, I might be biased because I have mained a F^3 tank forever. Damage is outrageous, and durability is solid. When soloing, she can take most anything that any other tanker or brute could solo (although Ghost Widow AV did f her day up, but only because I wasn't ready). In teams, with the buffs and such, her armors easily reach cap. The only thing she lacks is the self-healing to Hami tank, although I haven't tested that. Anyway, I say that to say that the people who say Brutes do so much more damage, well I just don't care. My F^3 monsters through stuff at high speed. Shaving a few seconds, even if it were true, is just not exciting. Oh, and she also completes the fire farm at nearly the same speed as a Brute without the need to constantly convert/buy and suck purples. Sorry to vent, just had to get that out.

WAIT, people use the T1 attack on Tanks??? Damn, that's like nerfing yourself. (TBH, I will use it when SKed really low and most of my attacks are grayed, but that's it, and at that point, the Prestige attacks become useful, so it doesn't really matter.)
-
Everyone hates on tanks, until you need a tank. I mean, look, my Grav/Storm/Fire Blastanktroller can "tank" almost anything, except, you know, the stuff where you really need massive armor and HP. On the other hand, my Fire^3 Tanker can mow stuff down fast. What I'm saying is that this fight over which ATs are "needed" is so old and haggard it is ridiculous. Play what you want and have fun. That being said, Tanks really aren't disappearing. Check the Stats thread from March and you'll see that tanks are quite well represented. (Ignore that preview pic and click the link.) And, I feel like the only one that kind of doesn't think Brutes are all that great. There have been so many missions where I'm playing my Tanker, and we have a brute or 3 along. When things get rough, they just seem to wilt. Of course, you expect that of a Blaster or other squishy, but if Brutes are so great, what the heck? Maybe I've just had more bad luck with Brute teammates than otherwise and the vast majority are great, but that is not what I have found. And, of course, I have seen some amazing brutes, but those are so few and far between. Same with playing my other ATs with Brutes, they tend to require more support than most. Nothing I've seen of them, other than those limited farms, has impressed me. I tried playing a couple, but was still unimpressed. I just don't see the use of them.
-
I have a /Bio Brute and the main drawback I see is just that it is so clicky. Other than that, it seems like a really solid set.

I am totally in this group, now. I definitely see the benefits of doing it in AP. Doing it on a regular Tuesday sounds good, that way we can get a bunch of members there to show off. Do we want to do it at 8pm so we can start our runs at regular 9pm? Or just do it at 9pm? I am EST, so it is easier for me. I know 8pm is like 5pm PST, so that is probably too early.
-
I don't use it at all. It's not even in my powers slots.
-
Oh wait, what? I've never even noticed that.
-
Hang on, now I want to hear more. What is a good secondary?
