  1. If you want a smooth play experience that is low maintenance with good survivability I would suggest the following: -Pretty much any tanker. SR and WP is about as low maintenance as you can get. SR has better mitigation than WP, but WP can still handle pretty much anything in the game anyway. Unless you are purposefully looking for the hardest possible content you’ll be fine. Especially on teams. Take your pick for the attack set as pretty much any of them will work. Dark melee is a good pairing for SR. I like EM and MA for WP. -Brutes are also good, but they require more effort in building to take advantage of their mitigation potential. - Stalkers are great because they allow you to choose when, where, and who to fight. They have a great alpha strike and are sturdy enough for pretty much any content. I suggest energy aura and pair it with street justice or energy melee. - Sentinels can also be a great AT to play if you like relaxed play style. They have the benefit of both ranged damage and full armor. They may not do as much damage as a blaster, but they are certainly more survivable. They may not be as sturdy as the more beefy melees, but they have the benefit of range which is pretty big. Plus you don’t have to chase mobs. I suggest using energy aura if you pick energy aura. Any blast set is fine, but I personally like electric, beam, and fire.
  2. Depends on the difficulty you plan on using. Pretty much all the melees are great soloists. - EA stalkers are great, but you are going to have to heavily invest in end redux until you get energize, but once you do get energize you’ll be golden and can reallocate slots to other goals from end redux. Pretty much any attack set will be fine (though maybe not claws or ma due to lack of AoE). You’ll get to pick your fights and stealth when you want to. Can take out the priority targets before the fight even starts basically. - WP or SR tanks. While I believe shield to be the best armor that is with IOs. I think SR or WP will provide a smoother experience on SOs. My main back on live was EM/WP brute and it did beautifully on only SOs (didn’t use IOs back then). I think a tank would do even better. I think EM would be a good attack set to use as well, particularly on WP where you won’t care about the self damage. On SR, I would definitely choose dark melee. It fills the healing and recovery gap and is good damage. - I’m also going to throw a vote in for regen sentinels. I do think EA is the best sentinel armor, but since sentinels have lower modifiers it weakens the defense aspect and you can’t stack resist bonuses with IOs. Although regen isn’t the toughest armor, staying at range provides a lot of mitigation to allow your regen/heals/and absorbs to do their thing. I’d pair it with electric blast. Might want to avoid caves though. My 5 year old daughter plays a fire blast/regen sentinel on SOs and does fine with it. It’s simple and effective even if it doesn’t have the extreme potential of other combinations.
  3. I always slot the following in all builds: shield wall & reactive defenses + res uniques steadfast protection & gladiators armor +Def uniques performance shifter + end panacea +hp/end luck of the gambler + rech (as many as the build can take up to 5) I often take the following, but not always: miracle + recovery numinas + regen/recovery unbreakable guard +max hp kismet +acc Preventative medicine + absorb
  4. Can Regen survive +4/8 content solo? Absolutely, I can do it fine. If a blaster can do a Werner rules ITF, then any armor certainly can. Does that mean it is on par with other armors? No. Can it be fun to play? Absolutely, I enjoy my Regen characters. That is the armor set that I missed the most and remembered most fondly during the snap. Is it more high maintenance than say inv or wp? Absolutely. Is that necessarily a bad thing? Depends on who you ask. There are other click heavy armors that people like and don’t view as gimped (bio armor is a good example). Some people like the busy playstyle of it and that is fine. Others don’t like the fact that it takes away time from damage. I think that is every bit as fair of an opinion. I enjoy Regen and can still see value in giving it reasonable buffs. Giving it Regen and recharge debuff resistance is a no brainer. Adding scaling resists also would work wonders for the set. Neither of these things would prevent an alpha strike from taking your health down enough to still need the reactive playstyle. It would help smooth out the danger health zone and prevent you from being -rech to death. I think it’s reasonable for people to request buffs to the set. Most suggestions I see aren’t crazy and wouldn’t make it the top tier armor or overpowered compared to what else is in the game. And many of the suggestions wouldn’t really change the nature of how the set plays either. It would merely improve it. TL;DR: Can Regen survive what it needs to survive and get the job done? Yes, as is true for all powersets and archetypes. Does that mean requests for reasonable buffs are misguided or wrong? No, absolutely not.

    Regen Tanker

I honestly don’t focus on defense on my Regen characters. Doubly so because of no defense debuff resistance. Instead I focus on adding resists to supplement the Regen. I end up getting a fair amount of melee or s/l defense as a by product, but I focus on adding resists as opposed to defense on Regen. In fact, if I could have any change to buff Regen it would be to add scaling resists similar to SR. That would be amazing.

    Regen Tanker

Agreed. I honestly don’t get the argument that EA is to good on tankers or that Regen would be. Tanker armors are insanely over the top anyway when we have the likes of shield and SR. Not to mention the plethora of other armors that achieve stupid levels of survivability. EA and Regen both need to be ported over without any nerfs.
  7. Based on what you described I’d probably stick to the ATs that have built in mez protection, so basically the melees and sentinels. I’d probably go either scrapper or sentinel. I’d also pick energy aura as the armor for both as it basically has an answer for everything, except for heavy pure psi damage. You can build it to not need energy drain though it can be taken as a “just in case” power. Only click you will want to use often is energize for the end discount + it is also a nice heal. I also really enjoy shield defense. I actually prefer shield defense over energy aura, but shield likes set bonuses a bit more than energy aura and doesn’t have native healing or recovery. So if you choose shield I would go dark melee as the attack set (on a scrapper). Dark melee covers healing and end management and this is very synergistic with shield. For an energy aura scrapper, there are plenty of attack sets that work great. Dual blades is my favorite, but claws is also great. You could also go MA as that is just plain fun and stylistic. War mace is also a great performer. Sentinels don’t get shield so I still recommend energy aura. Pair it with fire blast or electrical blast and you are golden. It will do plenty damage and no you won’t be black listed from teams for playing a sentinel. You do however have the ease of play playing an armored character allows and also don’t have to chase mobs because you are ranged. All that said, there is absolutely nothing wrong in going tanker, brute, or stalker either. I just find scrappers to be the best generalist and sentinels have the benefit of being an armored ranged damage dealer. So my top recommendations are: - Dual Blades or Claws /energy aura scrapper - Dark melee / shield defense scrapper - Electric blast / energy aura sentinel For tankers, brutes, stalkers - Willpower / claws tanker (super smooth and low maintenance) - Street justice or energy melee / energy aura stalker - Savage Melee / Bio armor brute
  8. My vote for secondary goes to martial arts. It is simple and does decent damage. While it only has one AoE it is a decent AoE with a good cc. Most importantly storm kick gives +10% defense to all so reaching defense goals is super easy. As far as secondaries go: I personally believe shield to be the best tanker armor. Paired with ma it is beyond ridiculous. It is honestly fairly low maintenance as well. You only have two click: the cc protection and shield charge. I don’t really count shield charge as a defense click as it is an attack. I know some hate the click mez protection, but it actually works out well for shield because it allows for double stacking to get very high defense debuff resistance. If you want a purely set and forget secondary though I’d suggest pairing MA with willpower. Willpower requires no active maintenance and has good layered mitigation. Rise to the challenge is awesome and MA helps with defense. TL;DR: Shield/MA for max power and Willpower/MA for max smoothness.
  9. I want dual blades/shield defense so much. And also claws/shield defense. And katana/shield defense. Pretty much all the disallowed melee sets with shield, but if I had to pick only one it would be dual blades. And all blast sets/shield defense (aka give shield to sentinels!) Oh and just for kicks: Shield Defense/Regen Tanker!
  10. I completely understand this point of view and have no issue with those that hold that opinion. I might actually share it if scrappers didn’t exist. But the reason I have trouble making brutes is because both tankers and scrappers exist. I feel that scrappers have enough survivability for many things and they do better damage than brutes. That’s why I said at the end that if I wanted damage I’d just for scrappers or stalkers because those can also be built quite tough and have better damage as well. I wish brutes got mid point armor modifiers. Heck I’d take even just midpoint resistance modifiers so they could reach higher resistance numbers easier. Still wouldn’t approach tankers thanks to their ATO. But would be better than scrappers and so their would be a big enough difference in survivability to take the lower damage.
  11. I’m honestly not trying to be a hater, but I will share my opinion. Lately, I have had a hard time even wanting to make a brute over a tanker or a scrapper. I used to feel like they got the best of both worlds (high damage and high sustain). But honestly I feel the opposite now. I feel like they get the worst of both worlds in terms of modifiers. Shield Defense is a prime example. It is the best armor set in the game in my opinion followed closely by energy aura for those archetypes that can take it. It is absolutely amazing on tankers and extremely good on scrappers as well. Tankers get the fat armor modifiers that make softcapping defense a breeze and allows for reaching high resist numbers. Plus they get one of, if not, the best ATOs in the game (resist proc). It easily stacks twice and is not uncommon at all to have 3 stacks. My shield tankers have overcapped s/l resists with 2 stacks, and capped e/n resists with 3 stacks. F/c are also in the 70s I believe (I will need to double check). Plus they get good mileage out of AAO. Scrappers don’t get the fat armor modifiers, but they do get the fat damage modifiers. So they get the most out of AAO and shield charge. They can also softcap fairly easily and build up resists for s/l/e/n in the mid 50s to mid 60s. And it doesn’t feel bad because they are capped at 75% anyway. Enter brutes. They don’t get the fat armor modifiers or the fat damage modifiers. So even though they have the 90% resist caps it takes them a lot of effort to even attempt reaching those caps. Especially since they don’t have the fancy resist proc ATO. They also get less out of shield charge and AAO. It’s not that shield is bad on brutes. I still think it’s the best armor in the game. It’s just comparatively worse than on tankers or scrappers. So that said, I would definitely choose tanker over brute on the choices in the OP. I honestly have only just made a new brute and I made one that is impossible to make on either a scrapper or a tanker so I don’t have the comparative disadvantage. Super strength/energy aura. Im not saying brutes are bad. I just have a hard time wanting to make one with the way tankers are nowadays. And if I want damage I will just go scrapper or better yet stalker.
  12. My go to is scorpion shield. It makes softcapping s/l defense fairly easy and is easier than beefing up resistances in my opinion. I prefer defense over resists on blasters as their resist cap is lower and they have lower hit points. I’d rather not get hit at all and kite when I start getting hit and use range/cc to my advantage. My main blaster is a scorpion shield blaster that doesn’t have rune and takes the assault hybrid. I did put a build on test that takes the Mu shield for s/l/e resistances. I also took rune of protection and melee core hybrid. I was actually quite excited to have capped resistances to s/l/e. I also adjust my build to make sure my resistances for s/l/e were high even without rune/melee core. I was genuinely curious to see if it would be more tanky than softcapping s/l defense. I fought the cimemora large mobs on the walls and in Romulus’s fortress. I have to say I was actually quite disappointed. It may have just been bad luck, but after running both builds back to back for over an hour I came to the conclusion that scorpion shield worked FAR better. I was able to pull multiple mobs with several bosses with my DP/MA scorpion shield blaster and have no problem whatsoever killing them all and have plenty of health left. I was never in danger of dying. And I didn’t click the assault hybrid. When I tried to do the same with my resistance blaster I face planted over and over against the same mobs. Even when I popped rune or melee core. I was actually quite shocked. I figured the resistance blaster would have been better against the defense debuffs. I will likely try it again at some point, but from that test scorpion shield was very noticeably better than the mu epic shield.
  13. Not going to directly quote or reply to the multiple claims of EA being trash. That is just plain wrong. EA is a top tier set. It is one of the best armors in the game. I want to clear up two false statements so that misinformation doesn’t run wild. - There was a claim stating that EA is not easy to softcap. The only types that aren’t easy to softcap are psi and somewhat negative energy. Psi is a built in hole in EA. Negative energy is still simple enough to get to 45%, even without using energy drain. I don’t have a single EA character that isn’t softcapped to all types other than psi and I don’t take the leadership pool on any of them. - There was a claim stating that energy aura is an end hog. Only if you aren’t using the tools EA gives you to manage endurance. Energy drain is not the main endurance tool in the set. It is honestly more for defense buffers or as an emergency click for end if you aren’t using energize for some reason. Energize is the main endurance management tool that can be made perma quite easily. Between energize and energy drain EA has some of the best endurance management available. I rarely ever even have to use energy drain because energize is so good. Energy aura is a set that allows for fairly easy softcapping to all types except psi. It has some baseline resists that can be supplemented with pool powers and set bonuses (my EA characters have s/l resist in high 50s to low 60s, and e/n resist in the 50s without temp powers or clicks). It has great endurance management. It has a decent heal. It also has a good + rech power. When built correctly it is one of the best armors available. All the while allowing for some procs in attacks. All that said, OP didn’t have EA as one of their interested armors. Shield defense is still my recommendation for the armor set to use out of the original options. It is right up the with EA as a top tier armor. I just had to make sure people reading this thread didn’t think either of those sets are trash as they are both extremely good.
  14. I often lead when I want to run casual task forces so that I can decide how it runs. However, if I am joining a lab advertised group I generally only ask two questions: 1. About how long of a time commitment should I expect? (Only if I’m unfamiliar with the task force). 2. What type of run is it? Speed, kill most, go with the flow, etc. If I have never done the particular task force I just say as much when I join the team. I just say, “this is my first time running this one. Just let me know if there is anything I need to be aware of.” Then I just kind of go with the flow. I have found that most leaders will explain mechanics where needed and haven’t really ever felt lost in a task force. I have found that trials almost always have a lot of explanations going on so never really feel lost with those either. I wouldn’t worry too much about screwing something up. If the leader really cares about something for a badge or whatnot they will make sure to explain things. And if they don’t, that is on them.
  15. I had made builds for street justice, ice, dual blades, and energy melee. I had a hard time choosing which one to make first. It eventually came down to street justice and dual blades. I love dual blades so much and it is absolutely fantastic on stalkers. Top tier. But I have so many dual blades stalkers that I decided to give street justice another go. It’s been well over a year since I heavily played street justice on a stalker. My last one was a great street justice/energy aura stalker. I am thinking that my street justice/stone armor stalker will actually be more robust than my energy aura one. But I will have to see.
  16. I’m sure it would do great on a tanker. My first stone tanker project subsequent to the change is stone/ma. I have been having trouble lately not using MA on tankers though. It’s hard to argue with how strong MA is on tankers.
  17. I’m going to second dark melee / shield defense. Pretty much permanent uptime on extreme damage bonus if you are fighting lots of mobs. Dark melee covers the healing hole in shield and it also make end management easier. Shield is very tough and buffs damage and provide a great AoE. This combo is my favorite overall scrapper. I also really love my dual blades / energy aura scrapper. Great survivability and great damage. And I also really like savage melee / bio armor. Those three are my top three scrappers, but dark melee/shield defense is the best imo.
  18. I want shield defense for sentinels so much. I would be beyond ecstatic if they got it.
  19. Energy aura can be made very tough. It’s easy to softcap typed defense and has enough freedom in it that you could take rune of protection to bolster up your defenses. I think was able to get some respectable resist out of my dark blast/invuln sentinel. I’ll have to check back on my build to see what they were, but it seemed like it was going to be quite tough.
  20. I have been trying to decide which attack set to use with stone first also. I have made builds for the following: - Dual Blades/stone armor - Energy Melee/stone armor - Ice Melee/stone armor - Street Justice/stone armor I will eventually make all of them and I honestly don’t think I could go wrong with any of these options. But I am equally tempted by all of them.
  21. I noticed this was happening to all my stone armor stalker builds. I think I figured it out. Brimstone armor is messing with something. If I remove the power (not just toggle it off) the damage value start acting normal again.
  22. I have been trying to figure this issue out for a while now, but can't find the setting. I made an EM/Stone stalker in mids and noticed that the displayed damage numbers seem off. For example, here is energy transfer slotted with makos bite: If I open a fresh mids and just pick energy transfer and slot it with makos bite I get the following, which seems more reasonable. Im sure this must be a setting somewhere that i must have accidentally checked, but I can't find it. I have tried changing the damage view from damage per activation, to damage per second, to damage per animation and back. I have tried clicking all the three options in "chance of damage" area of the effects and maths and that didn't seem to fix it either. Any help would be appreciated. Here is the build in case that helps to narrow it down:
  23. EA is a fantastic armor set, but it can be pretty hungry until you get energize to manage your endurance. So I suggest slotting you stamina and endurance reduction at least in the early levels. As other said, you’ll want to focus on typed defenses for any defense bonuses you are shooting for as opposed to positional. I also like to build up my resistances on my EA characters. EA provides endurance management, healing, a great start on typed defenses, and + rech so it really opens up power picks and slots. Due to that I have always like taking rune of protection as a nice emergency click to beef up my resistances. I haven’t played stone melee on stalker yet, but have on brutes. I suspect you will be pleased with the single target damage, but I won’t really comment deeply on the set as I haven’t played it on stalkers.
  24. I’m guessing bio armor will be the best armor to boost your damage. My fire/bio sentinel is not lacking in damage and is quite fun. I have an electric/bio that is in process of leveling up so I’ll see how good it is compared to fire/bio.
