Were this the IP of the Homecoming team, I'd agree that rewrites/tweaks could be done. Buuut there's this snag called unofficial / private server.
-
I'm sorry what. The universe of CoH is its own thing and timeline. It's been locked as well since 2012 (almost typed 20012 wtf) There's no real entanglement because of one character doing a really heinous act in a background written in the early 2000s. This isn't a character who is currently written as going out as doing the same things that are going on in RL. Hell, none of us are the original writers of Blue Steel so who knows what he'd be doing in 2020. Maybe he's retired and drinking tequila in the Bahamas.

>divisive >a movement against the mistreatment & prejudice towards black people which is very systemic (a real shitty summary i think but hey im a shitposter - but you get the idea) i'm...That aint the hill to die on, chief.
-
No one else is dying on this hill, chief. This isn't rocket science - people can separate fiction from reality much better. Not everyone is as hawk-eyed on the lore as you, or cares as much as you. Which is not a compliment I might add. It's a wild leap to go for "They can't stand in solidarity if they don't remove Blue Steel!!" - which is baffling to even remotely suggest. Considering the CoH lore/world is stagnant as all hell - making a move with it during these times? It seems like a bunch of virtue signaling from you - which is poor choice, in my honest opinion. It's also baffling and questionable that one assumes where characters not written by us would stand. There's no real proof on the matter nor should we even be debating this right now. It's rather odd to interject on a BLM thread and going on a tangent about removing Blue Steel. It's just disheartening to see a thread about a real life movement get someone trying to meld the fictional world with the real world / vice-versa.
-
You take a game way too seriously, my man. That's...not how it works at all. People would not want the game world to change just because of RL events. That's...a lack of separation between fiction and reality.

Its time to lock up Blue Steel
Ruin Mage replied to Llewellyn Blackwell's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Somehow my brain skipped off the current events. Yeah, real bad time to be suggesting this over a fictional character. -
Its time to lock up Blue Steel
Ruin Mage replied to Llewellyn Blackwell's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Always a delight to see these sort of threads. We have no confirmation of if we're going to do it anyway. Also, this is not where I'd start. I don't know if anyone takes this as seriously as you do. ...You do you, but that's just weird. -
No.

Difficulty in CoH: Community Discussion
Ruin Mage replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in General Discussion
Here's the thing about difficulty - HC has made it currently the motif of the server to be more accessible, to be easier to get to the heights of power where everything is easy, and in general just making the entry to an old game a whole lot easier. We see this in Veteran Levels, in the tweaks they've done (or that SCORE did, which we adopted through using their source), and more. So the game has particularly become one of the easiest MMOs out there - which is fine. Sometimes people get tired of the work-your-ass-off aspect of typical MMOs like FFXIV and WoW. The grind isn't really there besides maybe the grind for badges & moneh. Now, one should temper their desires and expectations with the facts above and with the other notes to be made - the game was being progressively made easier by the devs, with harder content coming down the pipe before shut down. What stopped all of this? Being shut down did. So the progression that was later game difficulty was put to an immediate stop and thus the game was left in limbo. When SCORE (Leo's secret server) began it was a matter of adjustments for the population, I imagine. They had barely half if not way less than what HC has - which is fitting given the hush hush. So when we took on their version of the game, it meant a much easier CoH. Now, CoH was already getting easy by I23/I24 beta. Incarnate powers and IOs made content rather easy to do. The Incarnate Trials and Hami raids were the difficult content that people had - Mothership has and always will be a snooze fest. However, +4/x8 was made trivial and even more so as the game went on. So the difficulty ceiling had a hard stop besides trying to find new ways to solo/duo TFs/Trials/other content that was easy for a full team. Not only that, but the game got more and more figured out - damage, defense, etc. So when we come into HC, people easily have a base for knowing the numbers - albeit there's new elements in the game for plenty of us. Radiation Melee/Armor, Bio Armor, Savage Melee, Psychic Melee, etc and so on - but again, the numbers get crunched and figured out. It's the nature of MMOs for the difficulty to go down as the life cycle goes on. It's also a mixed bag to, on the other end of things, to put things behind effort. Costume pieces should not, for example, be locked behind missions or earning them through the game. I prefer it the way it is - everything unlocked so people can truly make the costume they desire from Level 1. However, other things locked behind effort? Badges/temp powers? Sure. The Incarnate System, you have to at least either do a bunch of leveling or participate in iTrials to fully unlock. Easier than it used to be, but its still requiring effort. I don't think anything really can or should change - just based on the time and effort it would take. Hard-coded things would be a hassle - so I'd assume at least. One should also be careful with what they try to add because the game is notorious for its code - so it is said at least. -
By the rules that HC has set down, it's objectively lacking creativity to try and create a 1:1 replica of Superman - and so forth. Depends on the character in question. You can get 99% close if not 100% to, for example, most MCU outfits.
-
Just as this thread and the response of "Don't tell others what is/isn't creative enough." is silly. Creativity is creating your own character. What isn't creative? Creating a 1:1 replica of your favorite character from another source and then whining when it gets generic'd - see this thread.
-
I must reiterate; Live went by the same rules that HC is using. They may be coming down as hard or harder than Live devs did. Getting generic'd means you just weren't original or creative enough.
-
There's a difference between comic cons in real life... ...and a video game. I mean, this isn't rocket science. You don't want to end up generic'd? Put some thought into your costume & character. Easy. If roleplayers on Everlasting can do it so can you.
-
To note - Live had this very same rule set. You could get reported and generic'd for the same thing you get generic'd here for.
-
The admins of Homecoming. If you're getting the upsets at not being able to 1:1 recreate your favorite character from another medium, you really need to re-evaluate why you play this game - simple as that. It is a lack of creativity to copy-paste Superman/Batman/etc into City of Heroes just because "muh favorite character."
-
The solution is simple: Get some creativity and make something unique (or as unique as you can) You can do a homage without being a clear rip off. Use them as inspiration not as your entire basis for a character/costume.

okay what did you smoke. i want some of it.
