How is that the same as being "on follow with a single attack on auto"?
-
From the example given, it doesn't sound like that was the case - merely being on the same IP address was enough to get a GM response. Granted, we don't have all the details, but that's the appearance based on the available information.

Do you play Heroes, villains, or Praetorians?

Character Slots Screen: Moving Characters Around
Blackbird71 replied to tripthicket's topic in General Discussion
I have my own way of grouping my characters, but I do something similar, usually leaving at least one blank page between groups (sometimes two or three if it's a group I know I'm likely to add a lot of alts to. Planning ahead and leaving empty space is a great way to make things easier to organize going forward. Just one I'm aware of. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_SR-71_Blackbird -
There is a general Archetype parent forum containing all the individual AT subforums; general stuff like this can be posted there (scroll past the list of AT subforums to find the postings). As to your question, how to slot these is going to depend greatly on the rest of your build, and there is no simple "one size fits all" answer. That may not seem very helpful, but trying to slot powers in a vacuum is not going to help your build.

Character Slots Screen: Moving Characters Around
Blackbird71 replied to tripthicket's topic in General Discussion
As an altaholic myself, I understand your pain. Here's the solution I've used: Go into your CoH installation directory. There should be a folder in there with the same name as your user name; open that. Inside should be a text document named "playerslot.txt"; open this. This file is what the game uses to sort your characters in the select screen; each line is formatted as follows: "username" "shard" "character name" "slot number" By changing the slot number, you can change where the character will appear in your list. Note that the order of names is not important; only the number. However, sorting the names could make it easier for you to keep track of where characters are. I suggest opening the file in Excel or a similar spreadsheet editor, which should put all the text in a single column, one line per row; then you can sort the column alphabetically. Then, save the file (as a text document; don't convert it to a spreadsheet format). Now you can reopen it in a text editor, and change all the numbers to match the alphabetical listing. -
You were probably too busy being snarky to notice.

The main Archetypes forum is this way: Archetypes - Homecoming (homecomingservers.com)

Ignoring the 3-month thread necro for a moment, can I just point out that the OP could have answered their question themselves by spending 30 seconds on the wiki? I assume the fact that they didn't means they were unaware of it. The Players' Guide to the Cities/Creating a Character - Unofficial Homecoming Wiki (cityofheroes.dev) I'm not trying to be a curmudgeon here, but I believe in empowering people to find their own answers by equipping them with the knowledge of where to do so. When someone asks a question that can be answered by the wiki, isn't it better to make them aware of its existence so they know where to find future answers? The CoH community is a very helpful and friendly one, but I think it's by far more helpful to give people the tools they need to not just answer the immediate question, but many questions to come.

I'm not referencing anyone specifically, as I don't have enough knowledge of anyone in particular. I'm just suspicious of the practice in general, and would recommend avoiding participation in any CC that accepts donations, both as a donor and a contestant. If an individual or SG wants to throw a CC, let them fund it themselves. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I've seen enough questionable results to raise my distrust. Disclaimer: I've played EVE Online, where you learn to expect that anything could be a scam. However, I'm surprised how often that level of suspicion turns out to be accurate.

I don't attack people, but I attack data, or the lack of data, or unsubstantiated or unverifiable claims of knowledge. A good reminder for all is the maxim "The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data,'" and representing it as such does a disservice to any honest discussion.

To answer the title question: No; but not for the reasons you think. To illustrate, let me lay out a hypothetical scenario. Someone advertises a costume contest in AP, using language along the lines of: "CC in AP in 30 minutes, no theme, 100 mil in prizes, more with donations." Wanting to boost the contest, people send in donations. There's no way for any one person (besides the organizer) to know exactly how much was received, but for the sake of the example, let's say another 100 mil Inf comes in. As the costume contest is about to begin, the organizer then announces. "Great news! With donations, we're giving out 150 mil in prizes!" The organizer then pockets the additional 50 mil that no one knows was even there. Then, the judging begins. The organizer has several friends/alt accounts in the crowd who are awarded prizes. Not all the winners have to be plants; a few random real people will get prizes to keep up appearances as people tell their friends "this guy does good contests; I got second place once!" The organizer can give out up to 50 mil in prizes and will still be making a 50 mil profit over where they started. The less they give out, the more they pocket. Of course this is all hypothetical and a speculation. The numbers are made up to demonstrate possibilities. The bottom line is there are two methods of scamming Inf through CCs: 1) the unknown amount of donations actually received, and 2) the unknown factor of who is actually receiving the Inf. Whether each contest uses one of these, both, or none will remain an unknown, and perhaps not every pick-up CC is a scam, but they are certainly something to be wary of. So, 1) don't donate to CCs, and 2) remember that by flocking to CCs, you're helping give them the appearance of legitimacy. So no, CCs are not fair.

I'd like to know the source of your data to back up this claim, because without such data, these are just assumptions. I may be mistaken, but to my knowledge, the HC devs have not published these statistics, and I'm not aware of any other means of obtaining these numbers.

I know what you mean. My usual approach is to play an alt somewhere into the 20s just using whatever enhancements drop as I play. It doesn't take too long to get there, and by then I can usually tell if I'm going to enjoy continuing to play the character or not. It makes a good gauge of which alts I want to take further and actually spend some Inf on.

The flaw in this thinking is the presumption that most "red" players play villains exclusively. Most players I know and interact with play both sides (some even play gold), and for the most part they like to keep their characters on the same server as each other. So while there are some players who consistently play "red," I don't think you can claim there is a such thing as an "existing villain player base," or at least that if there is, it's a smaller portion of the whole. Trying to push all who play villains to one server would mean either 1) players separating their hero and villain characters to different servers, which I expect most will not be willing to do, or 2) many "red" players bringing their "blue" alts over as well, boosting the "blue" population on that server and more or less maintaining the existing ratio; i.e., an exercise in futility.

90% sure I made this post before for trollers/doms
Blackbird71 replied to kelika2's topic in General Discussion
This is a good point. If you managed to get every controller and dom in the game to stop using their AoE holds/immobilizes at the start of a fight, then you'd be complaining about all the people using knockback attacks. So, pick your poison and learn to live with it. -
Did they change it? I don't think so; to my knowledge that's how it's always been on HC. The choice of tutorials (as TVT showed in the screen capture) has been available at least since June 2019 (I personally can't verify prior to that, but it may have been available since HC's launch). Any non-goldside, non-EAT character who chose to play the tutorial would have had to make the choice of which tutorial to play through.

Montague Castanella arc feels way too early
Blackbird71 replied to Biff Pow's topic in General Discussion
Ditto. I had no idea people found this mission so onerous. I've played many (many) alts through this arc, and I think she's only died once on me, and fairly recently. I know because it was a bit of a surprise to me when it happened; normally she gets through along with me just fine. -
issue 27 Patch Notes for April 20th, 2021 - Issue 27, Page 2
Blackbird71 replied to Jimmy's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
The only possible solution I can come up with is a set of rolling bind files, but that presents it's own complications, such as if anything happens to disrupt the sequence (powers getting toggled on or off by means other than the bound keys, etc.). Plus, that's just a mess to have to set up compared to the simple way it worked before, again requiring more work to fix something that should not have been broken to begin with. I could live with the way things are a little easier if the Fly animation overrode the Hover animation, instead of the other way around. While not optimal for other reasons, I could get by with leaving Hover active while Flying, and just toggle Fly on and off for travel. It still requires more key presses in common situations (such as wanting both Fly and Hover turned off upon reaching a destination), and would eat up a marginal amount of END having both active when I have no need for Hover's defense, but it would at least improve a majority of my use cases. And yes, I know I can change the Hover stance. That's not what I'm looking for. I want to keep the default Hover stance when hovering, but go to the default Fly stance if Fly is active. Currently the only way to do that is by turning Hover off when Fly has been turned on.
