Well, you can, they're just different alignment options than hero vs. villain, but I thought getting into the intricacies of the gold side alignments was more than the OP was looking for.
-
Correct, my notes only apply to standard ATs; not EATs/VEATs. Which is why I noted this:
-
Brute was solely a villain AT with the launch of CoV, yes, but that was later changed. Now any AT can be hero or villain or anything in between. To clarify what others have said, there are a few ways to handle this: When you create the character, you will be prompted to decide whether or not you will play a tutorial. If you choose yes, you will be given three options. If you choose "Outbreak," you will be a hero. "Breakout" is the villain tutorial. If you choose "Galaxy City," you will reach a point within the tutorial where you are given the choice of "Hero" or "Villain." If you decide not to play a tutorial, instead you will be presented with a prompt to choose "Hero" or "Villain" upon completing character creation. Of course, this is all assuming that at the very beginning of character creation, you selected "City of Heroes: Freedom" and not "Going Rogue." "Going Rogue" is "gold side" and presents a completely different set of alignment options. Either way, once you're in the game, if you decide you don't like your alignment, you can change it either by talking to Null the Gull in Pocket D (fast way) or by doing Tip missions to gradually shift your alignment (slow way).

Is there an easy way to find particular mobs in a zone?
Blackbird71 replied to MikeSol's topic in General Discussion
Sometimes these missions specify a certain zone, and sometimes it's just "Kill X" without any reference to where it has to be done. If no zone is specified, you can actually pick up a radio or other mission against those enemies, and any defeated in the mission will count towards your total. -
Nah, he spent all his Inf in the costume creator.
-
But not everyone survives the fight. That's the difference.
-
... What game are you playing where the NPCs do this? Or am I just missing some hidden CoH content?
-
I was thinking along those lines; take the level shifts into account for sidekicking purposes and it should put mixed teams on more even footing for advanced difficulty settings.
-
You miss my point. I have a reason to run the content: for the most part, I enjoy the content, and I want to play what I enjoy. But most of the PI contact missions are just not engaging the way that earlier story arcs are. When you can fly over the mission map, find all the objectives, and clear the map in under 5 minutes, it's not mechanically interesting. And when the missions are completely repetitive and don't seem to string together into any sort of cohesive story, they share the same failings as radio missions without as much benefit.
-
Honestly, the TF mode for Ouro arcs is one reason I don't do them. Oftentimes I'm running content with an SG, and when more people log on they want to join in on the content, and we'll often have slots available. But if we're stuck in TF mode for a couple of hours, they can't just jump in. So they end up doing something else, and by the time we've wrapped up an arc, either 1) the team is tired and done for the day, 2) those who wanted to join are now involved in something else, or 3) they've already logged off.

OK, I'll bite. I'm an altaholic with a lot of characters. Generally speaking, I level them by playing mission arcs. As a rule, I don't PL, and I don't do AE grinds/farms. On rare occasion, I might do a couple of DFBs in the early levels on a new character to get started. Yet still, in the level 40-50 range, I often find myself joining PI radio teams to finish things off (or soloing PI radios if no one else is around, which given my play times is often the case). Why? Because frankly, it's more enjoyable than most of the PI contact missions. The bulk of these I encounter are of the "go through a portal to alternate dimension XYZ into a large open-world map, then find the three glowies to click or one boss to defeat and be done." Those missions are just tedious and boring, more so than radio missions. If levels 40-50 had more options for mission arcs that were the standard fare for 1-40, I'd be all over it. Anyway, that's my 2 INF; take it for what it's worth.

Of course not; that would be bad math. What you wrote was 4 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 x 4, which is 384.

How to create a keyboard shortcut for TWO powers at once?
Blackbird71 replied to MikeSol's topic in General Discussion
That's great, but the OP wanted a means to turn them both on and off with one "shortcut." I interpreted that as all triggered with the same key, not different keys/key combos. -

But then you can't use the same bind to toggle both off. -

Using only the in-game available commands and a standard keyboard, you can't. You can bind keys to turn more than one power off, but can only turn one on with a single command. As the others mentioned, you can make rotating bind files so that you can use the same key to trigger two powers by pressing it twice. You could even set it up so that pressing it twice turns on each power in sequence, then pressing it a third time turns them both off with a single use. To do this, make a folder somewhere on your computer named "binds"; and remember the path. For this example, we'll assume it's in the main directory of the C drive and use "C:\binds\" as the path, but be sure to change this for whatever your actual path is (I don't actually recommend putting it in the root directory of your C drive). In this "binds" folder, make three text files named: sprinton.txt athleticrunon.txt runoff.txt Paste the following text into "sprinton.txt" and save the file (replace "g" with whatever key you want to use for your shortcut; you can also do key modifier combinations, such as "lalt+g"): g "powexec_toggleon Sprint$$bindloadfilesilent c:\binds\athleticrunon.txt" Paste the following text into "athleticrunon.txt" and save the file (make sure you use the same key in place of "g" as you did for sprinton.txt): g "powexec_toggleon Athletic Run$$bindloadfilesilent c:\binds\runoff.txt" Paste the following text into "runoff.txt" and save the file (again, same key in place of "g"): g "powexec_toggleoff Sprint$$powexec_toggleoff Athletic Run$$bindloadfilesilent c:\binds\sprinton.txt" Once these files have been created, type the following in your chat bar and hit Enter: /bindloadfile c:\binds\sprinton.txt Now, the first time you hit "g" (or whatever key you've assigned), it should turn Sprint on. The next time you use it, it will turn Athletic Run on, so you can turn on both powers with a quick double tap. The third time you use "g" it turns both powers off and resets the key back to the beginning, ready to turn Sprint on again. Again, all of this is for what's available in game with a standard keyboard. There are easier ways to do what you want if you have a gaming keyboard with programmable macro keys. -

But who is "not everyone"? What do you feel? Stop trying to speak for this nebulous undefined group of others and state your own goal, intent, and opinion. Otherwise, this is just a troll discussion. You're stirring up crap that has been discussed to death a hundred times over; I could fill a stable with all the dead horses that have been beaten over this topic. And it never goes anywhere, always descending into separating players into two different opposing camps based on how they prefer to play the game, and it ends up as a fight over who gets to have things their way.

Had HC set out a canon explanation at the beginning, it would have been helpful and given us a common point to go off of. But in the absence of that, people made up their own solutions. Now everyone's got a different interpretation/explanation for what happened (if it even did happen), and attempting to put together a consolidated idea on this is futile.

want to form a group we play a few times a week...
Blackbird71 replied to rockroom's topic in Everlasting
It might help to be more specific about what you're looking for in terms of "a few times a week." For many people, this could be a significant commitment, and the vagueness may discourage volunteers. Try starting with time zones and what days/hours you're thinking of, and how many days a week you want people to commit to. Getting eight people together consistently even once a week is hard; details make it easier to find the people who will regularly be available for your team. -

When did they put this QoL feature in?
Blackbird71 replied to Glacier Peak's topic in General Discussion
I do, and it wasn't. But it's not exactly new on HC; I know I've been using it for a while now. -
I'm going to repeat myself from last month. You're making a full build here; builds go in the AT forums. It's better for everyone that way. You get the focused feedback you need, and the next person coming along looking for advice on how to build a similar character can easily find the info.
