Okay, a quick build that focuses on capping Energy/Neg Energy and Ranged Defense. Damage is low until you hit your epic pool and you can open up your extra damage powers. AoE is Good between Roots, Repulsion Bomb and Torrent (and improves more with Carrion Creepers). Single Target is 'meh' but that's typical IMO for all Controllers other than Gravity. Your heal is Spirit Tree. Its perma at 87 seconds recharge or better with Hasten up, so double trees about a third of the time. That's about 500% regen. Between that, solid S/L resists and great Defense, plus status protection, you should be good. I didn't slot out Carrion Creepers, way too many methods to get that done, with or without procs. Recharge is a strong focus, you want it up as much as possible. @HachiMan2015 hi Hachi, here's how I would build Beast/Dark. I like two attacks since it helps build up Pack Mentality faster. With Fortify Pack you have an extra 23% global defense with 5 stacks, which easily soft caps pets. I put the KD IO into Lionesses since Wolves have their own in their inherent attacks. Dire Wolf gets %BuildUp. Plenty of room to customize it. All six special Pet IOs and pets are close to or capped on their Attack/Damage, with extra EndRedux for Lionesses and Dire Wolf, since they like to chew their blue bar. Have fun! Hi! I'm glad you found the post useful 🙂! The attacks are good for building stacks of pack mentality, I recommend at least one of them. You can fit in all six unique IOs into the three pet summoning powers with creative slotting, but concentrate on the Defense ones first. I can try to post a build later this weekend if you like. -
White it's not a competitive set, any MM set is playable through all content. One of my first CoV characters (Crimson Commando, an Arachnos special forces) was a Mercs/Traps, long before IOs. I took it to 50 and had a good time. If you enjoy it, play it. People swear by Fire/Kin Controllers so I tried it again, got to Incarnate Alpha, and let it go. I just didn't click with the sets. What you enjoy is what you will play. Not always what is the meta. Try it, see for yourself. Coyote's suggestion for traps is my pick too.

I'd recommend Mu Mastery as well: Both +Def IOs slotted. Maneuvers Hover/Cbt Jumping Stealth Farsight Go for Ranged Defense IO set bonuses. Things in melee get debuffed from Time's Juncture so don't have to cap Melee.. Capped Ranged, + solid resists vs most common damage (S/L/E) + heals + regen + debuffs (ToHit, slows) + Ember Demon aura = one tough cookie. If you have the room you could go Fighting Pool but I think that's overkill for most builds.

I was able to fit in Combat Teleport. I'd have loved to work up to Fold Space, but there wasn't room. I'm happy with the tradeoff of Tarantula pet and Mace Disruptor Blast for more -Res. Tarantula is up permanantly, and the Mace means taking down hard targets even more quickly. Combat TP however is neat for getting past bottlenecks or zipping in and zipping out of melee for toe bombing.

Here's my current end-game Necro/Dark build. The MM is one small purple from Def Cap (32% in in-game numbers, not Mid's) and with all the -ToHit, rather safe. I have had a number of Inferface choices in the past, but I settled on Diamagnetic, which debuffs regen on those tougher targets, as well as adds insult to injury with another 20% -ToHit, so that I often don't have to use Fearsome Stare or Darkest Night unless we get an ambush or aggro extra mobs/patrols. No, the activation times will be the more constraining part of set up and are a wash vs. recharge times at high recharge. Due to no interrupt, IMO Blaster has the best Mines, but Illusion can get away with it too despite interrupt, since they really draw little aggro. Either Illusion controller or Devices Blaster is my recommendation. Source: has T3 +3 incarnated Ill/Traps controller and Beam/Dev blaster.

Controller is the Dominator you want for AVs, unfortunately. Illusion with Rad, Traps, Dark or Cold is the way to go IMO.
