How and Where to Hunt - Defeat Badge Guide

Maybe not the best way, but it might help.

Running on Empty – Defeat 200 Malta sappers

Get from Ouroboros’ crystal the Crimson Hunt story arc (level range 50, rogue or villain alignment) with a notoriety/difficulty team size set on 8, and run through the entire map of the first mission, targetting the sappers with a keyboard shortcut or a macro ; once the map is clear of sappers, summon an Ouroboros portal, use it, quit the strike force (button in the Team window), take again the same story arc and repeat.

I counted between 6 and 19 sappers per mission. Each run took me around 4 minutes. If you’re good, a little hour should net you the badge. Solo. Shadowy power useful, not mandatory with a -1×8 setting.

I believe I read nothing about it here, though it is useful for this kind of sport, and especially for sappers, as they can’t seem to be found isolated and can be hard to spot among their uniformed colleagues until they shoot you : you can use something like

/bind "O" "target_custom_near enemy living sapper"

to avoid a long and laborious targeting work. (Obviously, after typing and entering this command, striking the O key will target you the nearest sapper in sight.)

Could someone give similar advice for brutes, natterlings or jägers for the new badges ? :o

In the Storm Palace zone, Brutes spawn in groups of 6-10, usually with 2-4 bosses. There's some variation (I had a group that was like 24 dudes, no bosses. One cast of Ion Judgement wiped them out!). Remember that Bosses count at 5 points, so really you can treat this as a "defeat 100 bosses" badge, but it'll be quicker if you're also taking down the nearby minions and LTs. Just look out for Storm Elementals while traversing this zone!

Natterlings are a little harder. Their spawn sizes are smaller, and tend to spawn alongside Watchers. This was in Firebas Zulu, I dont know if they spawn in greater numbers elsewhere. Took me a while.

For the 2 new Nemesis badges, the old "fake nem" farm is still good for these guys (Christopher Maxwell: Nemesis Rex), but the last two missions of SSA2-5 (Heldenjeager I think?) work a bit better!

You can also try your luck patrolling Eden and Crey's Folly, but I dont believe you're gonna save any time that way.

For me, a lot depends on where your badge character is in their badge journey. For my badgers that just needed the new stuff:

Gave the Crimson arc a try - first mission set to 0/8, I got 4 sappers. Took me 3 minutes. Pretty sad result, so I went to RWZ, and between the Little Big Top Neighborhood marker along the west side of ...a depression, presumably where the mother ship was sliding in, I was able to use my target macro and find 7-10 sappers along that west side, ranging from badge 8, moving North towards Pt. Du Hoc. A lot faster, easier in my opinion.

For the warhulks, got 49 in one single run of the SSA out of Steel, along with about 225 Jaegers. I knew the 2nd part would have more of the same, so I just killed all for the whole arc. Got the hulks at the end of mission 2. And at the completion of the arc, I needed another 200 Jaegers, so I just hunted them in PI; took another 5-10 minutes patrolling the docks.

The Super Stunners took all of 5 minutes in Crey's Folley using a target macro. Killed them in melee, they rez'd, killed 'em again. 25 X 2, ez pz.

Brutes - Found a ton of them in mobs of 8-10 finding a boss or two in the mix in the Chantry. Found more Natterlings in the Cascades. Maybe 45 minutes. Did a Faathim with a friend on another character to see how many we'd get - and it wan't many. Maybe 250 natterlings, 40 brutes.

The immature PPs from the new villain arc:  Set mission diff to 0/8 when you're in the council mission, the next one is the crey mission. This way, when you're done with the council mission, the next mission is already adjusted. You'll get 11 immature PPs when you take Hopkins down to about 20%.  Five waves of 11. After the 5th wave, log off, back on, repeat. Then proceed to completion.

If your badger needs fakes as well - The SSA is still the way to go, imo. But, you could just as easily do the nemesis story arcs and missions that give badges.
The Super Stunners can be earned during a Yin, a Market Crash or a level 34-43 blue side respec trial.

If you need those long shard tfs - may as well do those before you hunt the Natterlings or Brutes.

As for Sappers, if you are inclined to do so - tons of them in the LRSF - the mission with Kronos in it - plenty of Zeus Titans in there, too. Most teams I'm on zip through this part though - so you may only get 2-4 sappers.

Also, if you go to The Chantry (the actual structure in that zone) and just fly around the perimeter, you'll find a ton of brutes that are all gray and green (if you're level 50) and they go down fast.  Just keep flying around the building until you get the badge.

Regarding the Running on Empty (200 Sappers) badge:

I just soloed (couldn't get any interest on LFG) Operation: World Wide Red from Crimson at -1, x4 and breezed through it without breaking a sweat.  Treated every Malta mish as a kill all, and blew through the Knives as fast as possible.  Started the arc with 112 out of 200, and the badge dinged in the mish right after the Kronos Titan shows up.  I imagine a full team of 8 could knock out most of this badge in one thorough sweep through this arc.  Plus if you don't have the badges for the Kronos Titan and/or the Zeus Titans, it's good for those as well.

Mu Guardian – Defeat 100 Mu Guardian bosses

This is probably the worst of the Arachnos badges and one of the worst badges overall. Mu Guardians seem to be the rarest spawning Arachnos bosses in missions and there isn’t a great zone to hunt them in. You can get a couple in Grandville and Cap au Diable, and Recluse’s Victory isn’t a bad option either for Heroes and Vigilantes, but the best choice is Scirocco’s second arc. The last two missions of that arc are guaranteed Mu spawns, so with large enough team sizes you can actually kill these guys in real numbers. If you want to reset a mission, I would do the second to last mission, as the last one has enemies that can aggro from across the map.

Venomous – Defeat 50 Toxic Tarantulas

If you are running level 50 Arachnos content at a level high enough to procure bosses, you’ll get some. The Miss Liberty Task Force is the best Task Force for this, but if you are doing it for speed or mastery, you likely won’t be killing a lot. Street sweeping isn’t a good option for these at all, but the best option is the rafters in Grandville, where they occasionally appear out of metal doors. Now you may think Warburg is a great option as they are fairily common there, but since those are technically not Arachnos but Rogue Arachnos instead, they don’t count towards this badge. Luckily, it’s only fifty, unlike those Mu Guardians.

I found something interesting.

The First mission of the Second story arc from Mr. G has a ton of Arachnos. I think I got 6-7 Toxics and maybe 5 Mu Guardians from this set at 0x8.

https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Mr._G_(Primal_Earth)#Part_One:_The_News_Team_You_Can_Trust

I wish I hadn't spent all that time floating around Grandville now because I already had the Venomous badge when I walked in the door.

Untouchable - 100 Family Bosses

I tried a bunch of different suggestions to hunt for these guys, but Striga ended up working the best for me.  Find a path through the docks in Port Noble (the area with the smugglers ship) all the way around, weaving up and down the docks.  I feel like I found more of them at night, but I didn't really test that thoroughly.  I put together a macro to help.  You can use this as either a macro or bind, but here's the command I was using:

target_custom_next enemy alive Under$$target_custom_next enemy alive Consig$$target_custom_next enemy alive "Marcone Capo"$$target_custom_next enemy alive One-Eye$$target_custom_next enemy alive Tommy

It's kind of a mess, but there isn't really consistent naming for these guys that doesn't give you a bunch of false positives.  If you're in a different zone, ditch the One-Eye and Tommy parts, and you may have to change around some of the other names, but that may help somebody out.

As a bonus, you can also get Warrior bosses here and just North in the Bonny Morass as well.  Their macro is somewhat easier as you can just look for "Elite", although that gives you some false positives from some of the Council around.

Also, as a last note for something I didn't figure out until right at the end.  Sometimes you find the bosses (Family and Warrior) setting up explosives.  Beware of AOE in these groups.  The explosives are really squishy and go off fast, and if they kill the boss before you hurt them, it may not count.  Stick to single target.

I tried out the Crimson arc, but had the best luck using the Peregrine Island bank mission (if you have the Safeguard Mission contact unlocked). Even soloing, x8 team size gave me 12+ sappers just from street sweeping and it only takes 2 minutes per run. Then leave mission, abandon it, and talk to Agent Hassell again to restart mission. The keybind definitely makes it easier!

Man in Black/Woman in Black:  Marshal Brass' mission to retrieve Amanda Vines in Cap au Diable is GREAT to farm Shivans in!  If you're the squishy type, wait until you get a few levels higher than when you got it and change your notoriety setting to x8 and just farm the first floor of the mission. Should have the badge in one-four times through it, depending on the map used.

Echoing this (pun not intended—if you've done the mission, you'll get it—but I'll own it).  I ran this at -1x8 and had way more Shivans than I needed for the badge.  It's an escort mission, too, so you'll need to clear the map and x8 might even have more Shivans than necessary.  It's a little less annoying than The Pilgrim's arc since you can run it at level 19, while The Pilgrim's Ouroboros arc forces you down to 15.  On the other hand, The Pilgrim's arc can be farmed for both Contaminated and Shivans, but my toon was a bit squishy to handle -1x8 on the mission with the Shivans.

If you don't want to/can't do a full Hami raid, they also spawn from the Weakened Hamidon in the LGTF.

Emperor Cole's personal story at the end of Belladona Vetrano's arc generally has a few each Mu Guardians and Toxic Tarantulas, and they do count for the badge. (I would assume the Fliers don't count for Heat Seeker, but my one 50 has the badge so I can't verify.) I don't think team size would have much effect on how many per run because the Magisterium is already pretty packed.

Team size setting wont matter on Cole's personal mission. Amount of Toxic and Mu Guards that spawn is random, sometimes none.

But I do like using that mission to finish the Mu Guardian Badge, Fortunata badge, and Toxic badge.

Also the flyers do not count towards Heat Seeker

Scirocco's second arc is really the way to go here.  There are a couple of missions in Arachnos bases that should spawn a few Mu Guardians each at +0/x8, but it's the last mission that makes this arc worth it—it's practically a Mu farm.  There are groups of Mu all over the map, plus a group at each of the ritual sites, and stopping each ritual draws three ambushes, which usually have more Mu.  I killed 30 or so Mu Guardians running this arc at +0/x8, with 22 coming on the last mission.

ETA: Scirocco's third arc is even better, since the whole storyline is about a bunch of Mu "traitors."  The first two missions are Carnies and Circle, but then it's Mu, Mu, Mu all the time.  I stopped counting at 44 Mu Guardians in this arc (because at that point I had the badge) before even getting to the last mission (again, at +0/x8).  The last mission is also full of Mu.  So running Scirocco's second and third arcs at x8 should be enough to get the badge—or close enough that running Cole's Personal Story once or twice will get you the rest of the way there.

Womp-Womp Badge for the immature Paragon Protector clones

New badge from ish 27

On a drone account, power level a drone alt to Level 25 and make sure it has the first money badge.  Flip the alignment of the alt to redside if it isn't already.   Doc Buzzsaw should now be unlocked.   Burn through the two Mission Arcs of Doc Buzzsaw and they will then tell you to come back at level 30. Power level the drone to 30 and send it back, now you should have the new story arc that they offer which is the only way to get the Womp Womp badge.

Go through the missions until you get to the one where you go to Cap Au Diable to rob the Crey.   That is the mission to keep.  Do not click all glowies and do not defeat the boss on the first floor.  Head up the elevators to the last level, take out the boss in the room,, and the immature clones will spawn.

Set your spawn size to 8 and you should get Womp Womp in 2 or 3 runs of the mission.  Also the mission can be good for farming the regular paragon protectors.

25 alts with all the badges!

For Monkeywrencher, the badge description talks about the Zeus titans being combined Hercules titans, and you can do that, but it's really finicky, and probably not worth your time to set up, unless you get them in pairs in missions. First, you have to damage the two more or less equally; if you have one badly damaged and one mostly intact, they won't combine. Second, the two Hercules titans have to be part of the same spawn; if you drag a Hercules over from another spawn so you have two, they won't combine no matter how carefully you damage them.

Exorcist – Defeat 100 points of Incarnate-level Circle of Thorns

Unlike the other enemy groups in Dark Astoria, these guys do not feature in any of the arcs – there may be a couple incidentally, but typically, you’ll have to hunt. Romero Heights in Dark Astoria is the best option. It shouldn’t take too long to get enough since you get the bonus points for lieutenants and bosses.

FWIW, I couldn't find any Circle of Thorns in Romero Heights.  Raimi Arcade, however, is chock full of them.  There's a skyscraper just northeast of the Raimi Arcade marker where the CoT hang out in enough numbers to hunt them quickly.  After I found that spot, it took 5-10 minutes to get this badge.

Banisher – Defeat 200 Banished Pantheon Spirit Masks

If you have the “Close the dimensional ruptures” mission from Unai Kemen, running that with a full team or max difficulty will get you a ton of progress, and you can even farm it if you want to.

Minor note: It's the first "Close the dimensional ruptures" mission -- the one you get when you first talk to him. You do several of them, and they all seem to have the same label, so you need to look at the description to tell them apart (the second, for example, is the Council Earth dimension).

Also, while it won't work for many ATs, if you're doing this on a flying ranged character with a snipe, the BP masks are a renewable resource. At base difficulty, you'll get spawns with an 'Elder of X' lieutenant and a minion shaman. Pop the shaman, and the Elder will summon a mask; if you stay up in the air at snipe range, the Elder can't hit you, while the mask will come up to be shot. Whack the mask, then go find another spawn, and do it again. After a short wait, the first Elder will summon another mask for you to defeat. If you do this for four or five spawns, you should have a ready supply of masks to shoot, rotating through the available targets, and never have to explore more than a tiny part of the map.

Untouchable Badge: 100 Family Bosses

I don't know if its been mentioned but in St. Martial at the Northern East point of the map is a two building block. Around this area are TONS of bosses that spawn in fairly quickly. Each Family cluster will have 1-2 bosses just waiting to be killed. It usually only takes me 10-15 minutes to collect 100 because I just circle around these two blocks over and over again.

@Jaack , my experience was the same as Zhym's in case you want to edit your list. I scoured Romero and couldn't find a single CoT, but Raimi had lots. Appreciate your excellent list!

Mob Specialist – Defeat 200 Prisoner Bosses and Lieutenants

The badge itself says you have to kill bosses, but Lieutenants count as well. You will probably get this about the same time you get the Warden badge – lieutenants are pretty common in the best Prioner hunting grounds. It’s also notworthy that lieutenants and bosses are guaranteed as part of the prison break zone event, so if you are in a hurry for some reason, that may be a good option.

It appears that the requirement for:

"Mob Specialist – Defeat 200 Prisoner Bosses and Lieutenants"

has been changed to:

"Mob Specialist – Defeat 100 Prisoner Bosses" (and Lieutenants no longer count). I have confirmed the change by defeating prisoner lieutenants in Brickstown, resulting in no change in my progress bar.  Afterwards, I defeated three bosses, and those three counted on the progress bar.

The prison break event spawns 3 bosses per event. I have also found most of the following locations to reliably spawn a prisoner boss repeatedly if I sweep the map in a repeating path. (coordinates are listed in a counter clockwise path starting with the SW location.)

prisoner_bosses_bricks.jpg.3b0d4ef8d5cf010b12943b51f296a325.jpg

I ended up street sweeping to get my last 50-ish bosses, at a rate of 3 or 4 bosses per sweep. The spot in the middle of the East wall is the least reliable of those shown. The spot near the SouthEast corner is two locations above and below the ground level. All of the prisoner bosses have a bright or dark energy glow around their heads and/or hands, making them fairly easy to spot.

Hope that helps,

Infiltrator – Defeat 200 Crey Paragon Protectors

For this there is a Tip mission named Merlin's Magical Minute that has nothing but Protectors in it. Adjust your team size to what you fill comfortable with and you can do this as many times as you need. I knocked it out on my second time through.

This assumes you have the Tip seller in base: Oracle or Mission Computer  and will need to be Vigilante alignment at level 40+

for Lucent Legacy of Light – Defeat 200 Legacy Chain Lieutenants (and the minion badge too):

In Mercy Island, at [-2432.2 96.0 -2256.8] , NE of the Darwin's Landing Marker,  a good number of level 5 and 6 Legacy minions and lieutenants spawn and re-spawn constantly around little circular Legacy runes on the ground. You can farm this area quickly and continuously for those badges.

(Note: seems like these spawns are not always present. Similar to the Fires in Mercy, they may need to be "unlocked" by one of the lower level contacts)
