Battle Axe!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I’ve always been a sword guy over an Axe or Hammer.

That being said, I’ve seen so many threads on how much fun/solid the new Battle Axe is, so I have to give it a whirl. Tell me about your Battle Axe experience!

What do you like about it?

Are there any specific secondaries you’d suggest to pair with it?

I was THINKING something that helps with endurance, like Bio Armor, Rad Armor or Energy Aura.

On the flip side, BA/Shield probably looks super epic. I could see it being a huge endurance hog though.

I did battle axe/ice. Pull into slow aura. It was fun enough but found axe still blah.

Good to know! You just didn’t dig the animations and what not?

Ice Armor IS wonderful, have a KM/Ice Stalker that is great.

What’d ya pair it with on live?

Just Willpower. I had no idea what I was doing with powers - and still don't know.

..It only takes one Beanbag fan saying that they JRANGER it for the devs to revert it.

If you're going to be a predominantly supporting damage offensive scrapper, fire secondary may suit you.  Consume also not only aoe damages but also can give you a bar of end when clicked right.

Also keep in mind depending on how you do slotting and proc's, axe can have really nice recharge due to the kb +recharge proc being able to go in most any attacks you choose.

If you're looking for a more rounded, end helping, and damage helping secondary etc set then radiation armor is a solid choice.

I just spent a few hours over the weekend on test with a new Axe/Ice build and I'm really happy with it. If I were going for optimal, shield would be very hard to beat but I have several shield scraps and brutes and I've been on an Ice kick lately. Rad armor is probably great with it too but Rad is great with everything! Ice is better than I ever expected it to be, so many tools in it's toolbox! I took the Soul patron for the def boost power (the name escapes me) to cover the toxic and psi hole and Icy Bastion is fantastic! Even 4x8 Cimarorans couldn't debuff me enough to matter as long as I remembered to use all those fancy tools.

Axe hits like a truck and even +4 bosses didn't feel like a slog to get through. Using the scrapper ATO for bonus crits just chunks away lifebars at a very heathy rate (healthy for me, not them). Very decent AoE damage as well, it always did good damage but the recent tweaks make it feel so much smoother.

Not to hijack, but since Axe is being discussed - anyone got an Axe/Shield build for Scrappers?  I've got an Axe/Shield Brute which is awesome, but the placement of ATOs on a Scrapper is a little trickier than on a Broot, it'd be nice to see where other people put their 50% crit proc.

Anything you can have, we have it.  Even got a devil in the attic.

Someone was praising Axe/Ninja Scrapperinos so I took a look at it... and it's actually... pretty nice looking?

Defence capped at level 32 (or 28 if Combat Jumping is swapped for Fly)... Ok, ok, not 28/32 because if leveling then stats are scaled down and some bonuses are not at full strength, but anything bordering 40% is already near invulnerable at those levels anyway, plus a heal, and endurance recovery, and no need for the Fighting pool.

I did put an FF proc in Swoop which may be dubious since it's the heavy hitter and we want it to hit like a truck, but my reasoning is that Axe simply needs four attacks to have a gapless chain. The FF proc when it decides to trigger will make Chop not needed. Placing the FF in Swoop gives more time for the FF proc to make both Cleave and Swoop recharge faster instead of placing it in Gash (or Chop) that would give the FF proc less time to work its magic and whittle the recharge of the two heavy hitters. Keeping Chop slotted still allows it to be used for leveling, exemplaring, and when the FF proc does not activate.

For single target then Cleave, Swoop, Gash, Chop-if-FF-proc-did-not-proc, repeat.  For AoE Cleave, Pendulum, Axe Cyclone, repeat.. which is nice.

I'm somewhat tempted in not taking Cleave though. Cleave hits like a massive truck, but 2.5 second animation and the very reason a 4th attack is needed. Swoop, Gash and Chop can loop perpetually. It does feel a bit sacrilegious though when we see the Mids numbers of 843-without-BU.

My problem so far is that both Axe and Ninja need a lot of powers so everything from Hasten to travel powers gets pushed back to the 30s, but someone who decides to level with no travel powers (since Kiji-in Rin gives run speed and jump height which will work well with CJ and Sprint/Athletic Run) or Super Jump can make things work better.

Five powers left and eight slots, so go wild:Scrapper (Battle Axe - Ninja).mbd

BA/NIN became my favorite character after I rolled it.

Although, a lot of it comes down to taste. Mine is an Elude build with Barrier and Conserve Power, built to exemplar very nicely to lvl ~20 or so. Optimizing maximum convenience everywhere.

Many of the same ideas you list. Minus the FF proc because the recharge times fit nicely as is, and also skipping Cleave is heresy to my ears. A ranged attack that does extreme damage and is also an AoE?

Animation time is not on my mind when I press the hotkey, I'm thinking of the pain train about to come down on the sorry sods who bunched up in a 40 feet radius of my ninja of mass destruction. Fly, you fools, I cackle as they're unable to do so, flipflopping helplessly thanks to the 80% KD chance.

Sometimes I feel equally sadistic and lazy, and I "arrest" them with nothing but Cleave, Cleave, Cleave.

God, I love Cleave.

 Axe/Shield build for Scrappers?

I actually run BA/Rad with similar slotting in attacks. I slapped this together when FM and BA got their changes and couldn't decide what to do. Ended up doing FM/SD and BA/RAD.

axe is nice as it got buffed.

its the 'new style' where short 7ft cones are replaced with mini sphere aoe.

the difference is remarkable!  you functionally hit like a melee cone but its a proper aoe...

...as opposed to quickly diving round 3 mobs and hoping youll line 2 of three of them... but only if you clicked the furthest back.

with 2 dozen mobs on screen, short cones that are not aoe converted like with battle ace gets unpleasant as a play mechanic, and you'll notice this after having spent time with the revamped set.

axe did away with that trouble!

it also gets a 'suck them in' vortex axe aoe, also nice.

its actual animations / movements - well youre either a fan or youre not.

its prettier that war mace, ill give it that.

get combat teleport / spring attack and:

/bind shift+e powexec_location target Spring Attack

^(as example), for rapido pack gap closing and melee insistence!

Random: as a sword guy, I’m trying to find an aesthetic axe that looks and “feels” right to me. What is your favorite Axe option in character creator?

So far, I think the ones that are CLOSEST to what I want are either Impervium Axe or Celestial Axe.

What in the name of Statesman is the cursed horror-show pictured above? 😱

hes here to save paragon.  its what he tells people on mercy island.

well, he did - until they (big arachnos disctrict 'police' they) hung him for being 'out of sorts with the road to success'.  group of trainees, thought they were clever, eff up the street kids, round then up, set an example, maybe get paid. next generation's throwback entrenchment of sentiment. 'message at the department u know, we're here to stay. 'members and loyal, remember old days'.

'threw shade at us that one, it did, looked right through a man. eyes on the gleaming. the arrogance!'  its all ends-to-a-means with only preface of slightest excuse, to do as you like and become used to it.  when you keep a population as cattle withfor occassion to take.  such is mercy island, for the non-super.

threw his body in a dumpster shortly after execution, where he was found and reanimated.

through necrosis, theres not much left of the brain. its dying remedies loop flashes, as does the mammal when overwhelmed as kindness and evolved survival in altruistic freezelock. survive, kin, and you-self dream... flashes of helping and a key to the city. maybe a realized moan.  theres nothing there anymore.
