We have the memorial characters scattered around the game and that is fine, such as Coyote in the tutorial for example

But in light of just learning that player @Anne Marie has just passed today (Sovereign members are in Ouro right now with torches on Excel)

I was thinking about a Mausoleum for the fallen

Have it floating in either Echo Plaza or Ouroborus, with a memorial flame burning in the center of it, with long, high walls with plauqes for the fallen and also space for the sad day when new plaques are needed.  Clicking a plaque brings up a memorial of the character with their name and right clicking the character for info can show game related info about them, not IRL info of course just game info. Like a brief description of who they were, the server(s) they were on, etc.

I am not asking for the removal of the memorial characters that are currently in game, of course.

This has been brought up before. I don't remember the outcome of that proposal though. However, I have to say I'm against it. Not because I lack a heart, but because there is no way to track all community members for their passing and even the ones that do get tracked will require an ever increasing tribute.

I'd have to think if anything like that was done it would have to be a generic "In memory of those who have gone before..." sort of memorial.

There's just no way to know all the players who have passed from Kyodi on to now (or to respect their wishes if they wouldn't have wanted to be named.) Mind you, I knew and have played with players both who have in-game avatars and who don't, so from that perspective I tend to think it'd be the most fair. It'd cover everyone from "played from issue 0 and the entire server knew them" to "became their favorite game when they found it two months before the car crash, but not many people had met them." (And covers the practical aspect of "somebody needs to keep updating that list" if it's a list of names.)

Not necessarily against the idea, but ... as mentioned, a generic one is probably the most practical.

That's the only version of a memorial I can support. Otherwise it will get to be too cumbersome over time. And who would even be the ones to keep the list updated? Let alone keep updating the model/map (edit: and interfaces) for the fallen? A generic tribute can work where a comprehensive one can't.

Or perhaps similar to the STO memorial that has plaques with the names of all that worked in Star Trek,    perhaps an eternally lit torch with a plaque then when clicked opens a window that says "In Memory of the Fallen" or something like that and it is a scrollable window that shows the global and main toon name.

Or how about something simple that doesn't require the devs to keep remaking the map(s) with the mausoleum/memorial? Have a community page created to remember those who passed. Then the community can simply add the community members they wish to that thread without asking the devs to jump through hoops to keep the memorial updated.

(Edit: I'm getting deja vu vibes from this thread.)

This is probably the best outcome since there are thousands of players, 5 different servers and thousands of supergroups/coalations all with their own circles.

All day long I see people asking whats with the torches in ouro, including myself all met with the same confusion and replies of "sorry for the loss" afterwards

Yeah might be the better way in terms of design and coding.  The original idea was a bit grandiose but still nothing wrong with thinking big.

Check out Michiyo's modder or Solerverse's thread.  Got a punny character? You should share it.

I m kinda on board with but not fully.

Not every member of the community is wildly known on every shard and made a huge impact there, so it might alienate people to see someone getting an NPC they have never heard of.

What would really work well would be custom NPCs or even Statues you can put in SG bases to honor people we have lost.

That being said an SG base can normally be lost when the SG disbands completly and leaves no character in it to hold on to it so my idea might not be that good either.

Seems like a fine idea.  Not sure what's needed to execute it, though.  I recall the terminals in Atlas Park used to be able to list characters at least with stats on them (other players characters, that is.  Currently it lists your own) so I suppose the game has some sort of built-in listing capabilities.  How that translates to a wall plaque, I don't know.

Maybe add statuary/holograms of the fallen Freedom Phalanx members in the room corners, or such?

This idea has come up before.

I think it is most likely to happen if players build a base (or bases) for this purpose.

For more detail, it maybe best "constructed" in the wiki where there could be more detail and people could leave "notes" on the comment pages about the players. (and I see that this is already actually happening in the forums).

And this is all to say, it is more likely to happen if created by players versus the DEVs (and I know that they - themselves - are also "players").

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Individual bases might be a better route, possibly a generic/editable plaque can be added to base tools,  install the plaque to a wall and edit it to show the name of the character.

Or a generic statue, male and female versions that can be costumed and named and placed in base.

STO has memorial plaques in the major hubs (Earth Spacedock, Q'onos, New Romulus) that players can click on.  It contains the names of all of the people involved with Star Trek productions that have passed on.

I don't know that you could add the names of every person who has sadly passed away here, but a general "in memoriam" type thing is a great idea.

I can't find the image I want to find of the statues of fallen Legionaries in the Legion of Superhero base, but here is a fantasy/alternate future version of what I'm talking about ...

image002-LSH277.jpg

Limiting it to one statue to base could be necessary if there were alot of items added to a base (due to file size) but if the base is small rooms with statues along the walls It could probably hold several (if not dozens) of customized statues.

I would suggest a couple different shapes of statue bases (or display styles; glass box, glass cylinder, light cone, etc.), all the customization of the statue costume (link it to a saved costume file so powers effects need not be saved), and a plaque linked to the statue that can be edited with name and maybe 25-50 characters for description or memorial comment.

I agree that simply putting plaques on the wall would take up less file size than the statues.

Who goes to a memorial OR graveyard and gets upset because they never heard of someone?

It's not about whether a player made a huge impact, but whether they played this game that became a community.
