what is the current "best use" of merits?  is it still buy converters, market converters, use inf to buy what you want from market?

is there anything else you can buy with merits that even make sense?

if you have 100 merits, a winter set enhancement, according to market fluctuations, is probably the easiest... and if you have an unslotter and a catalyst laying about, superiourise it. that'll add another 20% to the sell price. converters, unslotters, and catalysts boosters, (oh my!) are all about the same going rate of merit to influence ratio. just that winters are good for bulk merit use, if not a bit better overall. 🙂

Boosters typically sells for around 1 mil. Each one costs 5 merits. So let's say $200k/merit.

A converter sells for around 60k/converter and they are purchased for 3 converters/merit. So let's say $180k/merit.

Let's say a winter IO sales for $20 mil, they are purchased for 100 merits, so $200k/merit.

i tend to use my merits to but ATOs or LOTGs, probably horrendously inefficient but feels nice to buy yourself a treat

About 40-50% of the efficiency of winter IO when buying ATOs as they can sell anywhere from 7-11mil. LOTGs are a little better than ATOs as they only cost 50 merits + mats to craft, despite selling for 5-7 mil.

I'm probably not doing it "right" but I buy winters, ATOs, and converters with merits. None of that ever gets sold, they go into my builds and then the rest is bought from the AH. I farm a bit to keep the coiffers full and to keep a nice stockpile of purples and PVPs.  Many of the most commonly used enhancers get bulk lowball bids that fill with time so stuff like LotGs, Miracles, Steadfasts, Unbreakables, ect don't cost a fortune. An average leveling build will cost me around 50 - 60 million plus 1200 - 1800 merits. Then by the time that toon hits 50 and I'm ready to start another one, I've already replenished all the merits I used.

I've played the AH game in the past and I'm just bored with it, as long as I can keep making and setting out new toons without heavily engaging in the AH, I feel like I'm coming out ahead.

Get busy living... or get busy dying.  That's goddamn right.

I convert enough merits into inf to buy ATOs because they tend to be cheaper and I can usually get 2-3 with 100 merits.  I will do the same with PVP IOs, but buy the cheaper ones and convert them as necessary.

Winter IOs, I usually have some lying around from packs that I've opened - I never sell them as they will all get used eventually.  But if I'm missing any for a set, I'll buy 1 for 100 merits.

I will also spend a 100 merits to either buy a Purple recipe, or covert them to inf so I can buy the Purple on the market - depending on the market value and what I need.

I refuse to pay over 12M for anything.   Ok, I might go 15M for an HO/equivalent.  😄

Oh, and any LoTGs or other specialty IOs... those are all easily gotten by crafting and converting recipe drops.  Never ever had to buy any off the market or with merits.

I use the merits to buy stuff for characters, not the market

  • ATOs, Winters
  • some VR recipes (to fill out what I need),
  • Some PVP level 50 recipes (when I don't feel like playing converter roulette),
  • Boosters,
  • Converters and Unslotters (as needed, if the character is merit-rich but Inf poor)
  • Specific Alignment mission Tips (before level 40)! *very rarely, but sometimes I want that mission NOW!

One of the more useful things to do with a Merit is to drag it into email to make sure the email is going to my global account when I want to transfer some wealth between characters.

Snarky I crunched some numbers for you.  Here's a chart based on PRICE RIGHT NAO, meaning an average of the last 5 sales.  Before someone "well akshully"s me, here's a standard disclaimer: past performance does not guarantee future results.  Right off the bat one item looks off.

asset merits items merits/item last 5 avg Amt/merit
Converter 1 3 0.3333333333 55400 166,200.00
Booster 5 1 5 1000000 200,000.00
Unslotter 1 2 0.5 51222 102,444.00
Catalyst 20 1 20 660008.8 33,000.44
respec 50 1 50 1819977.6 36,399.55
LOTG 7.5 50 1 50 9191190.2 183,823.80
Pana +HP/+End 100 1 100 7460200.2 74,602.00
Ragnarok Acc/Dmg/Rch 100 1 100 9731111 97,311.11
Brute's Fury Acc/Dmg 100 1 100 8077777.8 80,777.78
Avalance Acc/Dmg/End 100 1 100 18680000.2 186,800.00
Steadfast Res/Def 20 1 20 2100000 105,000.00
LOTG 7.5* 50 1 50 5000000 100,000.00

The one that's off is LotG 7.5, big time, some whale came in and said I'm buying this NAO.  The last line item (with asterisk) represents a "normalized" price, not actual data.  Before someone "well akshully"s me about that amount, I don't care.  The individual pieces are those I thought had high value.  There are probably items that are more valuable.  If there are, again I say - I don't care, this is just illustrative.

Looking at the above, Boosters, Winter-Os and Converters are good uses of merits.  If you're looking to unload a ton of merits you may want to use the dollar cost averaging method (sell batches of them over time) to not flood the market all at once.

I do say this accurately illustrates that ATOs and purples are frankly terrible uses of merits.  I cringe whenever I see advice to use merits for these.

Thanks Hedgefund.  I actually try to do Nothing with the market. The closest i came was about 18? Months ago i changed all my merits to converters and bulk sold them to a certain market junky.  Lol.  It was a lot, since i never spend merits except on anniversay badges.  And i kept quite a few for that purpose held back.  When you olay the game merits just build up.

For me, the best use of reward merits is to buy enhancement converters. Not to sell, but to use to convert various cheap enhancements into much more expensive enhancements and sell the converted enhancements on the market. Buy low, sell high.

Other than that, new characters typically use a few merits here and there for enhancement unslotters when I'm in the middle of reworking a build, but really that's about it.

For me, it appears that on average I earn about 30 merits per hour... but this number can vary widely depending on what kind of content is run. For example, Hami Raids have by far the best merits/time ratio of anything else in the game... about 160 reward merits per hour.

If you don't count Hamis, the 30 merits/hr is a fairly good standard to determine the value of merits by how you use them, IMHO. The Merit Vendor offers to convert inf to merits at 1 merit per 1 mil inf.  This is way, WAY too expensive. If you look at @Snarky's list above, the most you'd pay is 200,000 inf per merit. 5x better than 1 mil per merit, and in most cases you'd pay less. So how valuable a reward merit is really depends on how you use them, and how you earn them.

If we use the 200K inf per merit as the baseline, then the value of 100 merits would be 20 mil inf. This means that you'd want to purchase a 20 mil inf item or greater with 100 merits. A Winter Origin or purple enhancement that sell for 25 mil inf would be a fair deal. You'd be essentially be getting a 25 mil inf item for 20 mil inf. Saving 5 mil inf over purchasing the winter packs from the auction house.  It's only about a 20% savings, but hey it's something! At least you'd know that you'd be getting a fair value for your merits.
