Scarlet Shocker Posted yesterday at 04:46 PM Posted yesterday at 04:46 PM Have we been saying it wrong all this time? The above is a tune from an album I've had for many years and play consistently because I love it so And I always pronounced that track "Terp see cor" And Manticore as "Man tea cor" But apparently Terpsichore is pronounced "Terp Sick or ee" So following that logic, should we not apply the same pronunciation to our game's richest bowman? It would be "Man tick or ee" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terpsichore This is very much a first world issue but I am curious. 3 I neither know, nor care, what the difference between ignorance and apathy is

MoonSheep Posted yesterday at 05:11 PM Posted yesterday at 05:11 PM in the official CoV trailer at 0:45, Synapse says “got you man-tee-core, i’m all over it” If you're not dying you're not living

I guess my original point is that you can have things look the same and sound remarkably different and the only way you you can tell is by knowing. There was an old woman from Slough Who had a terrible cough She hacked up some snot and said "I feel grot I hope I stop feeling so rough" I neither know, nor care, what the difference between ignorance and apathy is

JKCarrier Posted yesterday at 05:53 PM Posted yesterday at 05:53 PM Terpsichore is Greek, while Manticore (I just found out) comes from Old Persian. So they wouldn't necessarily be pronounced the same. Although it would be funny if Manticore had a Greek arch-enemy who always called him "Man-tickory", just to get on his nerves. --- 64453 - This Was Your Life? - An AE arc that lets you relive your hero's greatest triumphs! PoptartsNinja Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Manticore's etymology: from Latin manticora, from Greek mantikhoras, corruption of martikhoras, perhaps from Iranian compound *mar-tiya-khvara "man-eater."

And while there are past or present prescriptive rules used in various discourse communities, descriptive rules of discourse actually dictate most of those changes as well as their discourse community norms. In other words, you're over thinking it and the typically accepted pronunciations are fine.
