I can't find a power description prior to  the 2005 changes, but I seem to recall that it had a much larger target cap and possibly a larger radius.

It's been a while but from what I remember yeah it had a 16 target count that was an active hold/repel with a good sized area and you could point it to sweep in other groupings and stash them in a corner while you deal with others.  Your anchor remained but any new targets over 16 that got swept in it then would release one of the first ones that got caught in your TK.  It also helped to stack mag on AVs which this last prior version was mainly good for too.

The first time I tried a controller, and went with Illusions because I thought it'd be fun. Got to 20th, got Phantom Army, and just started laughing maniacally as they curbstomped the entire room full of enemies. Then they went away, and I saw that HUGE cooldown. "I must make this permanent!"

There's not a lot of sets that can defeat an Elite Boss with one power activation. 🐇🎩🪄

Eyebeams on my rad/rad def back in beta... freakin' EYE BEAMSSS!!!1

Just hovering around AP after being stuck to the ground for all those other RPGs!

Laughing maniacally on my launch dark/regen scrapper as I street-swept from about 20-40 in all my IH-toggle glory!

the day i discovered arcane bolt for controllers. arcane bolt does double damage on containment, and can proc from any power used for triple damage and instant recharge. you can get arcane bolt at level 4, suddenly making low level solo controllers very effective with a powerfu single-target attack. i even keep it on my level 50 trollers. 😄

Crashless nukes. You get a power that does 30-50% of all your damage. Wipes out a huge chunk of a spawn. With no downsides.

Of all the things we have on HC, this is probably the most upsetting to game balance (when compared to other ATs)... moreso than any Brute/Tanker debate.

It makes Blasters fun, but I think it is pretty crazy that Blasters got both sustains and crashless nukes... not to mention a reworked Inherent that mitigates enemy control powers..

Two opposing viewpoints and yet both correct. Interesting!

Originally... Super Jump.  I just loved hopping through Steel Canyon across skyscrapers or going rooftop to rooftop in Founder's Falls.

Now... Teleport.  Not because I love it more for travel.  I like it less, actually.  But it's just so damned useful INSIDE missions.   I wasn't expecting that.  Sure, Combat Teleport is faster, but for ONE power pick in the pool that handles both travel and gets me through/around obstacles in a mission?  Can't be beat.  Doorway blocked by a mass of enemies?  BAMF!  Feet webbed to the ground and I need to be up on an overhead walkway tanking right now!? BAMF!   It's Monday?  BAMF!

Really fun thing to do as well: Bind a key for teleporting to a target.  Pick a teammate, punch that key, and appear right next to them... even through walls.  Next time an annoying Sky Raider or Sorcerer teleports away from you while you're attacking?  FOLLOW him.    It does have some quirks and gives you a blocked message in caves sometimes.  But often it works and I've literally bounced between two split halves of a group tanking for both a few times.  It's wild.

Oh yeah!

I love having the ability to teleport between groups when the team splits.
I've done this a lot with support characters (the 'Port and Fort) - must try it with a tank next!

It's even handy in say Council bases to just piggy back on a teammate as we run to the next room.

Another power that changes the game for me : Confuse and Deceive.

Your enemies look different if they have the potential for them to work for you. You even start to like Tsoo Sorcerors and Malta Sappers.

I have my keypad number-keys to select my teammates by position on the team roster. I can be next to anyone on the team in two keystrokes.

I was playing a blaster one day, when a brute asked me to test his brute in pvp.  I was hitting him with everything i had  and picking up loss after loss until he told me about Ablative Carapace.  I used it as an OH Shit power, but from then to now it became the focus of all my Bio toons, always 6 slotted.

Best you're going to get with the game manual at launch. In game numbers came much later.

An even earlier iteration I forgot about. It became a targeted AoE foe hold about a month after launch.

Combat TP changed the game for me. Move to an enemy, a good pbaoe/cone location, a quick escape, map navigation here and there. Lots of creative uses.

Grav control is my favourite set and has some game changers. Wormhole was mentioned but Singularity is the big one. Repel powers paired with Singularity is some next level stuff. I get comments nearly every time I play gravs so I think this resonates with people. It's a hard set to be great with though.

Hasten, which is news to no one. It can enable a lot of things like perma-powers or better attack rotations.

Taunt is amazing if used well. Good for grouping mobs as they will run closer to you, the distant enemies aren't hitting your squishy teammates as a bonus.
