Help With Electric Armor?

Gregg247

Recommended Posts

I started a StJ/Electric Scrapper last week, an 8 foot tall killer robot who looks fantastic (he won 6 million inf. in a costume contest an hour after I got him out of the character creator!).  Obviously, /Electric is the natural armor for him.  However, at level 19, his lack of regen is really making him tough to play.  That green bar drops during fights and it seems to take forever to bounce back (unless I'm in the hospital with him).  I'm really struggling with low level missions that my /WP Brute, my /Invul Brute, and my Bane sailed through with no problem whatsoever.

At level 20, I can take Energize, which says that it heals "some" hit points and increases regeneration "for a short time".  Is this the answer to this character's prayers, or is it a relatively minor improvement?  Should I plan on taking the Medicine Pool to help out?  I'm sure by level 50 there will be plenty of options, but the prospect of dragging a sub-par alt all the way there if I'm not enjoying playing him seems like a waste.

Any suggestions/advice?

The first time you click it, and for 30 seconds after, I think Energize will be the answer to your character's prayers. But the long cooldown means that after that, things are going to get uncomfortable again for a while.  I would not take the Medicine pool. Aid Self takes four and a half seconds, is interruptible, and isn't a large heal. If you're in a fight that's killing you, I'm guessing you'll have a hard time even triggering the power. If you haven't yet, grab Tough and Weave when practical. Hasten might also be useful for getting Energize back faster. If you have some millions to spare, you could look into buying the defense, resistance, and +regen/HP uniques. For that matter, get your resists slotted up if they aren't.

All that said, at level 19, I'd probably still concentrate on attacks and killing my enemies before they kill me. Level 22 will also help some when you can slot SOs.

Thanks Werner, that's what I was hoping to hear.  Sometimes, you just need that boost to get you through your current battle.  I had a situation yesterday where I was in a hallway between 2 groups of even-level enemies, both about to rush at me.  I'd used all my inspirations, my health bar was at about 50%, and I realized I was about to get killed by a bunch of minions.  So deflating! lol

/Elec blooms pretty late IMX. The resists alone don't make you that durable, and the heal is on a relatively long recharge for the amount it does. For quite a while, you're actually squishier than /Fire to most enemies. (The Sentinel version gets a beefy +regen toggle instead of Lightning Field, which changes the story dramatically; it's my favorite version of the set.)

Once you have the Fighting pool, some global recharge to get Energize up more often, and some defense to layer with the resists, it improves a lot. In the meantime, carry a lot of purples.

What Hopeling said. It's a very good set once you invest in it (imo one of the top), but the trade-off is it can be hard to level.

I think that's my problem with a lot of sets in this game. Most of them simply aren't that good until you can toss millions at them at higher levels (and have the slots to support the sets) Why are so few powersets actually fun WHILE you're leveling?

I honestly think it's an issue of expectations.

Remember, up until i16, the highest notoriety levels were Unyielding (+1/×2) and Invincible (+2/×1). At those settings, any sets do pretty well on just SOs, and are quite fun to play. On a team, again, any set does fine.

Meanwhile, inventions were added in i9, and IO builds have become steadily stronger and easier to get since then. If your baseline expectation for performance is an i25 IO build that can solo on ×8 and tank AVs without even using inspirations, SO performance will disappoint you.

Defense-based sets can get by with abuse of inspirations, since they only need 1-2 per 60 seconds to stay softcapped. Scaling auras have an advantage there too; Rise To The Challenge does exactly what its name suggests. Resistance sets like /Elec can't abuse either of these mechanics to the same degree, so if you use an i8 build, you get i8 performance.

Different people like different things, and the game was intended to appeal to a wide cross section of people, to have something for everyone. I've not played Eletric Armor, but maybe it's the set for masochists. 😉

Honestly I rather like it. You can take sets that are easier to level but don't have as high a top end (example /nin, which is one of my favorites), or you can push through with a set like electric and get finally rewarded with a super durable set that also increases your damage output via its aura and +rech.

I definitely felt pretty weak for a good part of leveling my TW/Elec up to 50, but the build really started to pick up in the 30s once I started to have more slots and powers to play around with. At 50 with a full IO build the character is a monster with perma Hasten, almost perma Energize and capped S/L/E/F/C Resistance. With the lower Resistance caps on a Scrapper, I imagine it would be possible to go for capped S/L/E/F/C Resistance with soft capped S/L Def for some pretty serious survivability (my Brute build has ~30% from tertiary IO set goals).

Torchbearer:

Sunsinger - Fire/Time Corruptor

Cursebreaker - TW/Elec Brute

Coldheart - Ill/Cold Controller

Mythoclast - Rad/SD Scrapper

Give a man a build export and you feed him for a day, teach him to build and he's fed for a lifetime.

i have been looking for a good TW/Elec build for my scrapper for a while but no one seems to like electric armor.  IF anyone has a good scrapper build please post!!

I like Elec. It was part of the one build I wanted to play if CoH came back. It is similar to Energy in that it takes time as the heals come late.  One big thing to note, once it hits the 40-50 range, thank your lucky stars for having protection against end drain.

Top 10 Most Fun 50s.

1. Without Mercy: Claws/ea Scrapper. 2. Outsmart: Fort 3. Sneakers: Stj/ea Stalker. 4. Waterpark: Water/temp Blaster. 5. Project Next: Ice/stone Brute. 6. Mighty Matt: Rad/bio Brute. 7. Without Pause: Claws/wp Brute. 8. Emma Strange: Ill/dark. 9. Nothing But Flowers: Plant/storm Controller. 10. Obsidian Smoke: Fire/dark Corr.

I had a Spine/Elec Scrapper on Live, as I remember it was pretty effective once it matured a bit.  It was a bit squishy in the lower levels and some mobs *COT, cough* were miserable as they went right through your armor and nuked your to hit.

I agree with the idea of focusing on your offense early to kill things before they can chew through your defenses.  It will get better as it matures, remember that most characters have trouble in the earlier going before the builds mature.  You're not going to perform like a level 50 when in the teens.

Guardian Survivor, occasional tanker and player of most AT's.

Guides: Invulnerability Tankers, The first 20 levels.  Invulnerability Tankers Soft Cap defense

Yep, it'll suck until you at least get to 22 and slot some SOs, those will practically double your resists (if you've three-slotted your armors), and Energize will recharge often enough to be a "Save my bacon!" button.

There's lots of sets that give bonuses to resist smashing/lethal for just 2 - 4 slots and you can buy them attuned and start slotting them in your early 20's.

But remember a soloing lowbie is much squishier than an IO-out incarnate.  Get into a Synapse, your armor will shine against the end-draining clocks, and then a Yin. With double-XP you'll be in the mid-20's and able to slot some good sets.

Thank you very much for posting this (I know it was a while ago).  I've started an MA/Elec Armour Scrapper and I've been struggling to find a Mids build showing how to slot for Elec Armour.  Would be nice if it was MA specific but I'll take what I can get :)

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

Electric is fine for theme, but something has to be the bottom of the barrel.

I would put the Regen in grounded and up the heal to Fire Armor lvls.  And update the T9 to add an absorption shield and Regen.

Or how about change Energize into something like Fiery Embrace and change Power Sink into Power Transfer where it works like Drain Psyche.  And then tweak the T9 because it's pretty pointless.

Anyhow something needs to be done.
