Stuff like this is why you avoid Dell/Alienware like the plague.
biostem replied to Hyperstrike's topic in Help & Support
And they are gambling on you not realizing that; Look! It has RGB lights! Don't look behind the curtain! -
Are we talking about a "new" player that is already familiar with mez effects and that you can't really actively dodge attacks by seeking cover, or one who is used to more modern games that use something akin to hit-scan mechanics, where whether the enemy's attack will hit or not isn't calculated immediately? I doubt such a person would be happy to find out that bullets and other such attacks will follow them to the ends of the earth because their chance to hit has already been decided...

You must click the little arrows or the +/- buttons - you cannot freely zoom in about out with just a click and drag or roll of the mouse wheel. While I much prefer CoH's aesthetics, if you compare the costume editor between the 2, CO's allows you to much more freely rotate and zoom, as well as doing things like saving your last few color selections for easy application to other pieces...

Powerset Suggestion:Crossbow Assault
biostem replied to Darkneblade's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I'm speaking from the perspective of the fantastic setting of CoH; Where folks wield dual pistols and ARs without ever having to reload, and where the smallest, slightest character can wield a giant weapon without issue. In the real world, I am 100% with you... -
Account name exposed with "Remember Account Name" unchecked

Ah, gotcha. I tried force-ending the task to see if I could replicate it, but it remained blank every time. If you verify the game files before relaunching, does it make a difference? -
Powerset Suggestion:Crossbow Assault
biostem replied to Darkneblade's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Since a crossbow could basically be wielded by 1 hand, (essentially using some of the existing single pistol animations), the melee attacks could utilize other animations for the off-hand. This would greatly ease the creation of such a set. -

Is this happening in the HC Launcher, Tequila, or other client(s)? -

They sell you on a fancy-looking case with all these bells and whistles, hoping that you don't look under the hood or have knowledge enough to consider future upgradability or parts replacement/maintenance... -
I am not offended. Your question was ill formed and lacking in clarity. There are a lot of powers available if we were to go the archetype route, though.
-
I don't understand why you are asking this, then - yes, "in theory", they could do a lot of things. They could allow you to play as a Rikti dropship or a Zeus Titan if they wanted to. What is your purpose in asking, if you are going to keep rebutting anything with "well, in theory..."
-
I don't really see them enabling or adding "Rikti" as a completely new bodytype.
-
I don't think it's a matter of assets - there are already a ton of them in the game. What I'm saying is that there would have to be the will to go ahead with creating some sort of new archetype that is specifically Rikti.
-
Honestly, I would say Sentinels - you have armors and status protection, so the new player wouldn't have to worry about being mezzed, and the ranged attacks mean that said player wouldn't have to worry about chasing down enemies as much...
-
I mean, you can get Rikti weapon models for axes, so you could conceivably play a member of The Lost or someone otherwise early in the stages of the changes they undergo. I suppose I could see them as some sort of Epic Archetype, with little needed the way of new asset creation, though...
-
The problem with regen has always been HP pool + regen rate vs rate of incoming damage. If the former is greater, you win. If it's not, you lose. I like how the sentinel version gives you extra base HP and some absorption. Perhaps the brute & scrapper versions could have IH turned into a toggle that also acts as a taunt aura, (though that may be stepping on Willpower's toes a bit too much).

Game loads with only pink/orange screen with sound
biostem replied to SuperFee's topic in Help & Support
Just out of curiosity, was it setting the laptop to use the discrete GPU or updating the drivers that did the trick? Either way, I'm happy to hear you got it working! Cheers!- 10 replies

City Of Heroes no longer works... causes PC to crash
biostem replied to graeme27uk's topic in Help & Support
Yes - please provide some details & specs for your computer. Perhaps use a program like hardware monitor that can monitor your temperatures and CPU/GPU load. Make sure your drivers are up to date and close any unnecessary programs as well. Perhaps try the -usetexenvcombine program switch to launch the game with a simpler renderer. Cheers! -
I wanted something a little slower-paced which is kind of a throwback to older-style games, so I picked up Warhammer 40K Mechanicus. It's a fun game, but has some odd mechanics for a turn-based strategy game - almost feels like a "Choose your own adventure" at times...

I wonder if debuff values could be tailored to only affect, say, a Corruptor's blast powers, while keeping the lower values for their secondary sets. I'd also reiterate my belief that there should be a chance for scourge to proc as soon as the enemy is down even a little health, (instead of kicking in only at 50%).

Does the laptop have multiple GPUs? Some have a 2D "normal use" GPU, and a dedicated gaming one. Can you provide the make & model of the laptop?- 10 replies

The hardest part, IMO, is getting people past the hurdle of this being an MMO that doesn't have some of the QoL features that they may expect from more modern games. Don't get me wrong - I love CoH, but as I'm sure is the case for many players here, our ability to work around or see past those lacking features is second nature at this point. Simple things, like being able to rotate our character model on the costume creator with just a click and drag of the mouse, or being able to zoom in and out of said character freely with the mouse wheel, simply aren't present. As for which server to play on - I say just try whichever you like - character transfers are free, anyway...
