  1. even if i agreed with this, the sense of accomplishment from achieving things with chars that shouldn't, is just too much draw. it's almost like if one could beat a puzzle, not just solve it. absolutely my fav part of this game. ;D
  2. imo, Mu. you can build up SLENFC +Def into the 40's (or positional into the upper 30's), through powers/IOs/bonuses. loads of SL +Res bonuses avail, & Winter/Purples add FC +Res easily. but Energy Res is harder to build up & hugely important in L40+ content, becoming saturated in much of the newer & crossover content. ...although most will swear by Scorp.Shield (which is great for certain playstyles & builds too).
  3. found a good fit in ill/, under Spec.Terror, as others have noted. low dmg partially helped by the fact you have 3-4 out, and partially helped by all the -Res i tried to build into my ill/rad. good lil distractions during PA replacement too.
  4. no P.Boost? double check what it can do for +Def, Energize, Stuns, etc. since you're living in melee (GJ!), might also consider swapping Flight pool with Sorc for the status protection & +Res of Rune. stacked on S.Skin & some effort to boost +Res, it'll go a long way to expand durability (not as well as 45% melee Def of course, but unlikely to be 1-shot when somethin big slips through).
  5. oh man, vital info! i'd like to make a donation if you decide to learn the IO system & build your fav char (or even my cheap farmer in the Brute section to fund yourself from a 2nd acct, as peeps have suggested here)... 100m? i haven't had time to play, but i'll log in & send it, just DM me. honestly, once you get into IOs, you'll be a changed man (or, Converted, as it works in-game -heh). hehehe, "balls" can lead a man to fish, but can't force him to drink a horse to avoid hunger ...or somethin like that. 😜
  6. 100% also lowers required Def for softcap against enemies within B.Decay's radius. so while 45% to SLENFC, with high +Res (40-55%) to SLEFC and high +Rech for perma-Haste might be a stretch depending on the build ...39% is actually quite doable. my /Atom has a bit more +Def for a buffer, took Sorc pool for Rune, and only manages 75% +Rech before B.Decay saturation, but could easily be adjusted to include Speed pool for perma-Haste instead. the notion that all three will "cripple" a blaster, i guess then falls on what one's definition of "cripple" is? if we're talkin slightly lower dmg output, dead blasters do no dmg. ;D
  7. wow, oof, & yikes. properly built, EnA is the gift that keeps on giving... perfect circles pause in awe of it's roundness. imo, the most durable Scrap that can be built, yet doesn't need to give up +Rech or have End issues or carry greens or instantly buckle from various debuffs. EnA thrives in harmony with all our favorite pools & tools (see example). WP is one of the weakest Scrap sets, but incredibly easy to build & play ...which are also the two aspects that make Regen so widely disliked. SR is pretty great due to DDR, but FAR more durable as a Brute or Tank when built to take full advantage of it's 2nd best attribute; scaling Res. on-topic, Regen needs reworked... water is wet... other fish have been fried, but maybe it'll get it's turn eventually.
  8. ^ i didn't always disagree on that. other reasons to put the +crit Proc in GD: -- GD already has increased Crit chance. -- GD is a slower animation, which eats into the Proc's crit window. SD is decently faster, but importantly, enough to allow for up to 3 crit attacks within the window. -- SD's KU can put targets above GD's reach, resulting in a pause in attack (even with a short pre-hop to help mitigate), or, completely above Lotus if you're looking to boost AoE dmg. ...this last point wouldn't turn up while dicing away at a pylon, but is noticeable with enough hours of regular content.
  9. ^^^ but Nemu, how will i gain mad props for YUGE numbers at a glance? i want to impress all the ladies & make grown men swoon with my build prowess, thus securing my place in COH history & lore.
  10. from a numbers standpoint (Def, Res, Rech, etc), you should be very proud of yourself for this build... can tell you it'll survive quite well cause they're fairly close to mine. but... i'd find a way to fit G.Zero, with at least 5 procs. 100% worth, and no /Rad should be w/o. End will be an issue until/unless you lean on R.Therapy a ton (bad for DPS)... closer to a 3/1 ratio works once Ex'd down. Miracle also missing? - didn't take C.Blow, fast Rech of Def.Sweep was my way of preventing DDR cascade on those rare occasions (Meld for alpha) & otherwise only used it when Ex'd really low. - used Moonbeam quite often, usually while closing melee gap to next hard target or closing out Crit.Strikes proc timer on hard target. - FF vs dmg Proc is personal taste, imo. i had 96.3% Rech, +Haste, +Ageless ...no FF procs, didn't feel any need for em, but they could be interesting/fun. - only have 18.55% EndReduc in my Arc, & it CHUNKS. rest of my build helps by being rather efficient, but there's no glossing over with the frequency it gets used. think the Crit.Strikes proc works better in a lesser/ST/set-up attack, where it'll allow multiple attacks to chain-crit under Momentum.
  11. sorta? ...on avg, players are better than pre-ED, Enh are better, builds are better, and most newer sets are better. the holes and issues in Regen were exposed by all that creep, and even magnified, as other power sets benefit more from synergy with Enh-set bonuses + all the various boosters + Incarns. as a result, gameplay itself has reached new highs that peak pre-ED/nerfs Regen wouldn't have drempt possible. so, Regen was never "unkillable" -far from it. but at the time you could run an avg Regen build & out-perform other sets with avg builds, so it earned a pair of rose-tinted glasses (or is it FotM tastebuds?). imo, Regen can still out-perform other sets with avg builds... it just takes a truly exceptional build & player now. all equal, it can survive more than WP, but none of the other sets. not even saying this as a "get gud like me, noob" self-aggrandizing thing. that type of builder/player isn't me anymore, as reaction speed diminished with age & i've forgotten so much game-mechanic info from not playing for a long time. wait, am i becoming Regen then? surpassed by newer human versions who synergize better with new tech of the world & make my old accomplishments appear less than what i remember them to be? is Regen the old man yelling about the Golden Era of hip-hop, how there use to be social & legal penalties for false advertising, and how it just wants some damn peace & quiet at home? ...i need to go lie down, next to the dead Regen chars.
  12. exactly. at some point ya look for a wife...
  13. if you intentionally build to utilize & take full advantage of this mechanic, you'll excel in content that tends to sink most characters (Defense DeBuff) & brush-off most of the rest. gettin Positional Def into the upper 40's is the easy bit... but by gettin SLENFC Res into the mid 40's, you provide the scaling Res with a huge base layer to start from, quickly ramping up to full Res cap with quite a bit of HP left. then you want +HP & +Regen bonuses (don't forget Accolades), which pull more weight when working alongside capped Res, mitigating small HP losses as they sporadically come. having Rune on top for soaking up the alpha is helpful too, making Seers, DE, & sewer Pylons/Hydra far less daunting & completely/consistently survivable. and the last part of the equation is to take a set with fast recharge attacks (KD mitigation is a huge plus), as you likely won't have too many power picks left, and these sets make Haste and/or +Rech bonuses a bit less critical. ~75% +Rech, 20% Quickness, & single-slot Haste is plenty to chain 3-5 attacks in the right sets. by L50, you can let Agility + a teammate or two icap your Def for Incarnate content. if you play in the super far deep-end of hard content, you'll spend a lot of time hovering around 20-25% HP & freaking out anyone who feels compelled to heal - but their time is better spent on others, as you don't need it. "basically unkillable" gets tossed around a lot, but... ...yeah. ;D
  14. not that i hold any hope for un-borkage of Regen, but, what if... -- start with 25% resists to -regen, -rech, slows, etc. (basically all the crap we know torpedos a Regen). -- +20% when Recon's Tox Res is active. -- +20% when DP's HP bump is active. -- +10% when IH is active. =75% max debuff Res for Scraps. distribute +15% for Brutes over the 4 for 90% max to match AT diversity. test & adjust from there, (edit: nvm, i'd entirely forgotten there are -regen & -rech debuffs so entirely out-sized. glad i tagged Uber to remind me)... but personally the only other thing i'd really like to see is some meaningful DDR. (from thousands of Regen hours played, but also might ask @UberGuy for input, as he's got more seat-time in FAR MORE varied content)
  15. yeah ...but what if the player wants to complete an entire attack chain before our sun runs out of hydrogen & eventually becomes a nebula? ;P
  16. right-on, man. appreciate the feedback. 🙂
  17. there are also groups of "great players" who fall into the "great builder" category, & have made long lasting friendships through the same teamwork & comradery... they just tend to use build & game mechanics knowledge to play together differently than the avg player. even in the days of SOs, there were builds & game knowledge & playstyles that drew these people together (for example: use Wayback to find the "Nerf these people nao" thread ...most of them are still close friends). it's not "more so" or any less, it's just a different type of the same sentiment you mentioned. completely agree that you can't just hand a player the best build & expect they'll be a great player due to it. i've preached about learning the "why's" in the build forums forever. 🙂
  18. right-on, man. i'm lookin at it from the definition of "beneath/below, lower rank / secondary level, smaller part of". good idea to clarify.
  19. (for clarity right from the start, i'd never tell anyone to not ranged/hover blast if that's their preferred playstyle. everyone should enjoy the game the way they like.) doesn't the "sub" in Subclass mean "less"? and isn't limiting your powers & play to ranged/hover blasting, less than the options avail to a blapper who can fully utilize all powers & pools they see fit at any given moment? even if you can't play as @Nemu describes... if a blapper needs height & distance temporarily in a fight, hop back & use any of the many temp-flight powers. if a fight needs more dmg (Reichsman, for expl), the ranged/hover build can alter their abilities/play very little to resolve the issue. where is the case of a "blapper" being less-than/sub? also, i disagree with the "safer" sentiment of ranged/hover blasting. that playstyle means far longer battles w/o the high melee/PBAoE dmg, & so, far more attacks lobbed at the player over time... who can't as easily/quickly break LoS or get out of range when needed. Stuns?...Lost Sleeps come to mind. a decent "blapper" build & player will be far more effective most of the time (early leveling, not Ex'd down, as the sole outlier). a truly great "blapper" build & proficient player behind it, will be the dominant force of most teams when Ex'd down really low... you can quickly clear solo with some of them, no Scorp.Shield needed.
  20. i built one of these about 5-6yrs ago. it'd been an idea in the back of my mind, but took prodding from another member to sort it out fully in Mids. i NEEDED a team with ice & sonic shields to survive, as we only ran speedy or +4x8 content... it was glorious and horrid at the same time. the constant +dmg buff is nice, but double Procs on top in every attack was quite good against +4s, or when we had capped dmg from a Kin. it's not the same power sets, but might still help you? Blas Femmie ; Fire-Fire-Lev (+Rech +Dmg) - Blast.mxd
  21. sounds like you need to get familiar with Mids: this guide will help with farming from a zero-budget, & explain how to best maximize your time & rewards: and finally, this is a super low cost value-option build that is only marginally slower than the most expensive ones:
