I should probably leave well-enough alone, but I think there's a disconnect happening here . . . When the word "marathon" comes up, my mind jumps to inane badges like: https://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Temporal_Soldier_Badge Reduced to 50 on Homecoming, mind you, but it's still clearly the sort of Badge created with the express intent to just waste a player's time. But even if someone is thinking of "marathon" in a milder context, I still want to emphasize that it's not just about limiting oneself to challenge oneself. Someone can look down the street and say "the finish line is a block away, but screw that noise! I'm going to keep running all the way down to the harbour!" A person can assign their own goals. The game doesn't restrict that. And I'm not anyone's enemy here. I do this myself: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/12631-packrat-at-17/ And so can you. I believe in you.

issue 26 Patch Notes for April 7th, 2020
ArchVileTerror replied to The Curator's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
Also, hugely important; not everyone who gets a buff is actually engaged in combat. They might be roleplaying or performing another activity where the buff is distracting, disruptive, or causes undue performance issues on their current rig. Options are good. -
Except Badges aren't just here for one particular player, AND any one who wants to challenge themself to "run a marathon" can do so by making their own personal rules and objectives. This game is played by thousands of us. We're definitely not all "marathon runners," but plenty of us are eager to go for a brisk jog from time to time. This is the same issue that comes up with blanket statements requesting the difficulty of the game be increased, rather than implementing additional optional difficulty settings. Your playstyle is fine, and you should be able to enjoy it. But not to the clear exclusion of others' playstyle. That's at least the driving force in my personal design philosophy. We'll have to see where the Homecoming Team think the priorities lie and how to strike a balance.

As someone with an Ice Tanker . . . YUP! Improving the cast time on Patch would be an incredible boon to team damage mitigation. Anything that slips through my Taunt will be busy tripping and falling, if I play with appropriate tactics. And I've never felt that Ice was anywhere near to outperforming dedicated damage mitigation like Control Sets, so have at it!

Exactly what Greycat said. "The Grind," in this context, is synonymous with something unpleasant which sucks the fun out of doing a leisure activity. I will never advocate for the removal of any existing content, even the stuff that is blatant examples of intentional time-sinks created to waste players' time. I WILL advocate to have it tweaked to be more accessible and/or rewarding, though. We're in the post-profit stage of this game's life. Time to focus on undoing the mental mindfucks used to exploit human behaviour in regard to habit formation.

Powers that would need to change if Hasten gets nerfed
ArchVileTerror replied to Zepp's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
@Saiyajinzoningen . . . great bit of expression for your personal experiences with Hasten; I felt what you said there was valuable and informative of your gameplay experiences. But @Rathulfr is SUPER correct with the meme picture. Please. Start partitioning your wall-of-text posts with some line breaks. Pretty please. -
More Badges is a good thing. But as it was said in the official Badges topic for the Weekly Discussion, I strongly suggest that all future Badges be built with the design philosophy that they award behaviours that the Devs specifically want to encourage. Grinding and AFK farming need not apply. Another option is to further incentivize particular Badges by having them award Merits, like the Exploration Accolades do. Create new Badges such as: "Collect # of Defeat Achievement Badges" Accomplishment Badges. Values of 5, 10, 25, 50, 100. Merits rewarded: 1, 3, 10, 0, 0 Front-loading the Merits like this is intended design to encourage players to reach out and obtain the first few, but not obsess about the rest. This promotes teaming, choosing diverse content (different enemy groups), and Alt creation, but does not further incentivize long, drawn out grinds, beyond the normal "Badger" mindset (and as a "Badger" myself, I'm willing to give up rewards beyond the first few Badges in a category like this specifically for this design principle). I believe this also addresses the idea discussed in another thread, about "Lateral Progression." It offers a player the opportunity to achieve something and get rewarded for it, but does not require that they level up in the process. THAT is ideal game design for City of Heroes: City of Player Choice. Also, Merits mean more goods, rather than Inf, yadda yadda Inflation argument. And 14 Merits total for what would amount to at least a few hours of work is probably even too low, but I wanted to err on the side of promoting this idea, rather than making the Devs think of it as a greedy attempt to get more Merits. I think they could safely scale up the rewards, but I also don't have access to the formulae they're using to determine player time investment.

$$ connector no longer works, seemingly
ArchVileTerror replied to WhiteNightingale's topic in Bug Reports
I just tested in-game with no issue. Which Emotes were you trying, in what location, during what activities? -
When unsolicited ads start showing up, if you cursor over the topic, but don't click, it should give you a pop-up. That allows you to report the thread without actually having to click on it. I'll start doing that right now. OOOORRRRR I could be a few seconds too late, because I spent time composing this message. Well done to whichever GM nuked those all already!

Unless the Contaminated in the Ouroboros mission are different than the Tutorial Contaminated? The ones in the Tutorial zone and instanced missions are always Level 1; even if the mission is level 10+4 (just tested it).

More female boots without giant heels
ArchVileTerror replied to MTeague's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
More options -period.- But, yeah. Less high-heels on female boots is a good thing! More high-heels on male and huge boots is also a good thing. -
What about Devices or Martial Powers?
-
Also Spectrum for Flat Feet, please!

If you're looking for VOIP and already accept discord use, there is one run by the Homecoming Team. The link is on the main page of this forum.

Steel Canyon Building Fire Alarm Event Timer?
ArchVileTerror replied to detour's topic in General Discussion
You're welcome kindly! -
Ah, yes. I know that pain. I kept costume files for about only 1/3rd of my characters, and only had screenshots of a remaining 1/2 of those. I -know- there are characters which I just can't remember what they looked like any more, so I've had to make them a bit differently on Homecoming.
-
I think they start around level 40? Level 35 for dimension-hopping in Nerva for Villains, I think. This is just based on my memory. ParagonWiki would probably have more accurate information.

Steel Canyon Building Fire Alarm Event Timer?
ArchVileTerror replied to detour's topic in General Discussion
I believe they are approximately 1 hour apart. End of one to the beginning of the next. I'll try to keep an eye on my Events tab. -
Seasonal Events - Stay at Home Orders
ArchVileTerror replied to Troo's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Without looking under the hood . . . my guess is probably. But the amount of work it would require is unclear, and given that day-night spawns can sometimes show up at the wrong time of day, it'll probably be unreliable on top of that. Null the Gull's Hallowe'en Zone is already a prime candidate for 365-day Hallowe'en, I think. We'd just need to make all the various Hallowe'en critters become levelless, so they can scale to anyone and everyone equally. "Just." I honestly have no clue how much a pain that sort of coding might be. -
Make alternative IO sets to Luck of the Gambler
ArchVileTerror replied to nyttyn's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
That's just flat Endurance, and only when it wears off. It's basically a back-loaded Endurance cost like any other Power already has. What I'm suggesting a Debuff that chops your Max Endurance down for the WHOLE duration of Hasten. This will basically simulate your character tuckering themself out much more quickly while running at a higher metabolism/overclocking their processor/whatever narrative justification. But I really think we should revive one of the existing Hasten threads if we want to discuss this proposal any further. I don't like hijacking nyttyn's thread. -
Don't make it default, just make it an option in the resume_info.txt file. It already reads the first two lines as: Login Password Add a feature to read the next two lines as: Password Again for when you log to Login Screen Default Shard

Make alternative IO sets to Luck of the Gambler
ArchVileTerror replied to nyttyn's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Talking about Hasten is pretty off-topic for this thread, but . . . everyone else is doing it, so: Place an Endurance Tax on Hasten. -20 Max Endurance while Hasten is Up. BIM BAM BOOM! It has a serious enough cost that people will have to consider whether they want it. "Oh, but I have enough +Recovery to compensate for that!" Do you? -20 MAX Endurance also effectively cuts your Recovery. "-20 is too much!" Ok, maybe. Someone better at math could probably give us a better number that is a fair trade for the Recharge Bonus without being TOO punishing. ANYWAY! Back to our regularly scheduled Invention conversation, yespleasethanksyes? -
Even then, claiming your characters would require a level of receipt-keeping which I suspect most of us just don't have, and then that runs the risk of alienating the majority of players, and would be inadvisable from a public relations standpoint. The good news is; most people have been able to not only recreate all their characters from Legacy on Homecoming thanks to quicker levelling, more accessible rewards, and a rather lax set of regulations on powerlevelling/multiboxing/farming/et cetera, so that people have been able to surpass what their original characters had!

Is that expressly stated to be based on being Mu, or could it be part of Arachnos regulations?
