I think it's also mentioned in one of the comics? I feel like it was mentioned in the comics . . . But, I mean, if you wanted a meta-narrative explanation . . . my personal theory is that one of the original Devs in the art department was secretly Quentin Tarantino.

I think we're going to need more precise details on the problems you're facing, liad; step-by-step. Does Tequila launch and update without issue? Are you launching the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the client? Do you make it to the Login Screen? Have you ever successfully logged in? If the game successfully launches and logs in, but crashes after 10 minutes of playing, then you may be overtaxing your system or the game may be too much for it to handle. I recommend trying to tune down all graphic settings to minimum, and then tuning up until you reach your optimal preference. If you make it to the login screen, but the game just hangs for 10 minutes when attempting to log in . . . then that sounds like some kind of massive latency issue, or porting forwarding issues with your network security. I'm not well-versed enough in City of Heroes' network settings to be helpful there, beyond suggesting that be something you look in to.

Make alternative IO sets to Luck of the Gambler
ArchVileTerror replied to nyttyn's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I think for this to work, the Bonus needs to sourced the same, so the two can't stack. Otherwise you'd just end up with people Slotting five Gamblers, AND five of whatever else we make. I think this is a good idea, with that limitation in mind. I believe it would encourage more diverse Builds, allowing players to source the Bonuses from more Powers, and explore different options in the Powers they would have otherwise been using as mere "mules." -
I imagine this might not be the most popular suggestion, but . . . I really don't like what Kallisti Wharf does to my system. I often have to reboot my clients after visiting the zone, and sometimes my whole computer. There appears to be some kind of memory leak in the zone. Since Bases are now public access, and even allow Praetorians under level 20 to visit them, I would like to encourage the Homecoming Team to consider using designated Group Bases for all future Costume Contests and similar events until the Kallisti Wharf Zone can be cleaned up. The other advantage of using a Base is that we could design something specifically FOR the specific events. While the wide open space at the Wharf isn't bad for costume contests, imagine using a dedicated stage? Or Bases which are themed for each contest, with props for players to make use of for increased creativity. I'm aware that many players really like the Wharf, and they want to see it get used. However, I also know I'm not the only one who has problems with that Zone's system requirements. I would rather not have to choose between sitting out of the events, or having my computer fry an egg. Thank you for your consideration.

The hell are you talking about, @Doc_Scorpion? They're LOVE for you to post it! Just post it here: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/forum/68-comic-hero-villain-culture/

No fair, Red! I purposefully bit my tongue not to bump this thread! *waggles finger* . . . ugh, now that we're here . . . This topic has come up a lot. A lot. A LOT, a lot. And the answer is: This isn't the server for that. Sorry. You'll probably get better mileage out of one of the other City of Heroes revival servers out there. This one just isn't going to futz around with target caps. Not unless something HUGE changes.

My own experience with Outbreak's Contaminated had lead me to believe that they're constantly level 1. Other players have demonstrated that's not the case, though. Sorry for shooting off at the mouth. Original message for posterity: Actually, nope, Outrid! Contaminated can only be Level 1. I know, since I use a special technique to service other players: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/12679-rapid-isolator-badge-and-taxi-services-available-on-everlasting/ And, yes, DougG. 100 defeated Contaminated to get Isolator.

Doc Scorpion speaks plenty of truth there. I was thinking earlier, and while the term already exists, I kind of like the sounds of "Lateral Progression." The implication that levelling up is not the only way to experience progression of your play experience. I really think that it's something the game would benefit from having some developmental focus on. Not to the exclusion of "endgame," mind you. I just think we'd get more mileage building OUT rather than UP at this point.

Electrical Affinity "seizure" animations on allies
ArchVileTerror replied to Keen's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
People definitely do, Solarverse. There are many different types of seizures, in fact. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epileptic_seizure -
I do worry about the focus on endgame; have since the beginning. Incarnate content in particular. I know no small number people enjoy it, so I do not advocate its removal . . . but there's so much of it already. I would like to encourage more incentives and content at all -other- levels. But eh. That's me. There are other priorities, clearly.

New Powerset Idea - War Machine
ArchVileTerror replied to Calamity Cain's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I'd also like to bring up: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/11311-concept-battle-armour-survivaldefense-set/ This concept would use the same backpack costume element. -
Why is seeded salvage increasing in price?
ArchVileTerror replied to Alpha Man's topic in General Discussion
Auction House is server-wide. As-in: All The Homecoming Servers. It is _not_ Shard-dependent. Shards being: Everlasting, Indomitable, Reunion, et cetera. -
Flexibility is definitely good. I sure as hell don't want my characters' story arcs decided with a predestination. This isn't that kind of game. This is a game where the player -creates- their character; not selecting a premade default and not being forced to play just a single pre-scripted protagonist. But, even then, story arcs -do- exist in this game for the players who -do- want that sort of experience. As people keep saying: City of Heroes (and Villains) is the MMO all about player choice. THAT is its greatest strength, and what a lot of people want the Devs to focus on. Just check out: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/17412-what-makes-coh-great/ This really should be addressed in the current Topic of the Week, of course. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/17506-weekly-discussion-45-favorite-and-least-favorite-story-lines/ But you do raise an excellent point about ludonarrative dissonance (even if that wasn't necessarily your intent). Game mechanics and game story generally provide a more cohesive player experience when the two are working together, rather than working against one another. The game rules and mechanics of City of Heroes are such a grab-bag (for a lot of reasons) that it ultimately becomes a bit of a matter of each individual player selecting which mechanics they view as "in-character" and which ones they view as merely conveniences or time-sinks. I mean, I personally roleplay that /baseenterpasscode command is my character utilizing the MediPort system to get where they want to go in a hurry. It's amoral, possibly even illegal! But then, most of my characters are Rogues, Vigilantes, and Villains anyway . . . so . . . *shrugs* 'porters gonna 'port. As for this new Upgrade thing? Yeeeeeah . . . this one is pretty much straight up a gameplay convenience. I haven't thought of any reasonable and rational in-narrative explanation for it. Oh well! It's still a good quality of life improvement experiment. And I do emphasize "experiment." It will be interesting to see how it evolves.

I didn't see any patch notes, but my Tequila just downloaded a new version of the game. Any word on this?

If you're looking for NPC Costume pieces, that's only for Paragon Chat / Icon, which are NOT on the Homecoming game servers. They can be launched from the same program (Tequila, for example), but neither of them have AIs or combat Powers. Paragon Chat is just a chatroom with a City of Heroes "skin" over top of it, and Icon is just the costume creator and empty world Zones to explore. But to get those to work, again using Tequila as the example, you first need to get a Manifest which will launch them. I don't have one handy, sorry, but you could check CoHTitan or ParagonWiki possibly. After that, hit the Options button there and in the "Launch Parameters" field, put in "-n" (without quotes). Then launch either Paragon Chat or Icon from Tequila.

It's the regularly scheduled server maintenance. Every Tuesday around this time. Check back in about an hour. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Bear in mind that completing the Trial itself is likely to offer Trial-equivalent rewards too. Do you feel that the Villains require extra benefits from both the completion of the Trial and the failure of the Zone Invasion which is triggered by it?

Weekly Discussion 45: Favorite and Least Favorite Story Lines
ArchVileTerror replied to GM Miss's topic in General Discussion
Hard compared to Blueside and Redside: Absolutely. It's all about relativity. -
"Strength" to Run Speed isn't the same thing as direct Run Speed. What it means is that any Run Speed Buff or Debuff you have is improved by that amount. So, if you have Speed of Sound or Super Speed, then THOSE increase. I will need to test to confirm this, but that's my understanding based on the consistency of the use of the word "Strength" in the context of Buffs.

I . . . I don't even know how to approach touching that . . . Whoo-boy. ANYWAY! Ahem. Right. If not generic Mastermind Henchpets, I'd also like to propose that existing factions in-game who would make good Invasion Crews are the following (albeit, we run in to the same issue as Arachnos; level ranges): Hellions and/or Skulls - Gangers are dime-a-dozen backstabbing scumbags ("like you!"), and will be easy to boss around. Snakes - Just load them up in to a few cargo containers, and ship 'em off. Angry Citizens - Rile up the citizens and cause a riot! Clockwork - "Hey, Steve?" "Yeah Dave?" "Who ordered the twenty metric tonnes of scrap metal?" "What? Lemme see that invoice. . . . who the hell would send us this?" "Hey, Steve?" "Yeah Dave?" "Do you hear whirring and clicking?" Trolls - "There be free Dyne in garbage bin in Skyway. Go find!" Sky Raiders - Mercenaries, through and through. They'll do just about anything for the right price. Ghosts - A magical ritual used to grant vengeful spirits the animus to exact their revenge. Circle Demons - "This Pact I make with you; releasing you upon the world to cause havoc, mayhem, and carnage, in exchange for any soul you feast upon in the act!" Red Caps - A magical ritual to allow these creatures to exist outside of Croatoa for a short while. They'll do the rest on their own. Shivans and/or Neo-Shivans - Been to Bloody Bay recently? Escaped Prisoners (only available in Brickstown?) - "Now THAT is what I call a jailbreak!" Freakshow - Do we need an excuse? Wailers - "Breaking News! Jimmy Sonata's unexpected tour of Paragon City was cut short when a horde of strange demonic creatures attacked the neighbourhood."
