  1. ehhhh, sorry @Cobalt Arachne. I don't buy it. We all know the Devs hate villains.
  2. Sounds like something The Janitor would say, honestly. Can't DISprove it either. Yet.
  3. Awesome! I'll invite your forum account in to the planning committee message chain once it starts up for 2021. In the meantime, drop me a line in-game at @VileTerror, and I'll get you introduced to the other members of the committee.
  4. Something doesn't smell right here, chummer. Where's the streetwise slang of the Resistance in that countercultural message? CLEARLY it's the work of Primal Earth invaders, spoiling the peace and prosperity of the Cole Administration with their malicious ways! Probably Longbow or the Primal Phalanx!
  5. Might also be a good time to repeat to the Devs: It's probably time we replace those four graphic files to more clearly reflect "Heroes and Villains" and "Praetorians" @Naomi, is that within your wheelhouse?
  6. The Golden Ratio! First Hit gives 100% Mag 9.00 (Level 1) to 18.69 (Level 50, Defender Values) Knockback (exactly as-is). After 1.6 Seconds, a 61.8% Chance of Mag 5.56 to 11.55 Knockback. After 2.62 Seconds, a 38.2% Chance of Mag 3.43 to 7.13 Knockback. After 4.24 Seconds, a 23.6% Chance of Mag 2.12 to 4.41 Knockback.
  7. Sorry, just to confirm, which Shard is this on? Seems to be Everlasting. The folks on the Pride Global Channel have started discussing plans for this year's Pride celebration. Would you care to get looped in to the planning committee, @irkallanprince?
  8. Also, I didn't see your edit until just now, so: F-bomb to the single target Immobilizes. I'm not a fan. I much appreciate Mind Control and Illusion Control breaking from that formula, and would like to see all future Control Sets either avoid a single target Immobilize entirely, or do something really, really interesting with it instead. The Knockdown gains AoE when using Dominus, buuuuut, we could make it AoE by default and just have Dominus increase the Radius and Maximum Targets, I suppose. Probably better that way, actually. It would make standardizing the Cooldown of the Power easier, as single target jumping up to AoE is perhaps too much of a gap, compared to small AoE upgrading to big AoE.
  9. Memory being the unreliable narrator that it is, I am almost certain that some variation of "redside is best side" existed on the Pinnacle Shard prior to 2009, when I largely stopped playing City of Heroes (well, City of Villains, honestly. I rarely ever went on a Blueside character, and this was before Going Rogue). Mainly it was used as a response when members of a roleplaying Global Channel would ask why some other players and myself "refused" to attend their Galaxy City roleplay gatherings. But, again, memory. I could have made this up or dreamed it, and not even realize that. It's why I was hoping for something more concrete. I -should- still have my Legecy/Retail chatlogs on one of my old hard drives somewhere, but at least three of those are now click-of-death'ing . . . so . . . poor odds of ever finding them.
  10. This is pretty on point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGGWC5-q1Ts Spoilers, blah blah blah. But yeah. All kinds of criticisms about plotholes and other nonsense that wouldn't stand in a different film, all addressed with "but giant monsters punching each other."
  11. Short version: Really fun movie! Worth watching if you want to see giant monsters fight. Decently watchable outside of fight scenes, even if you have to shut off your brain for it. DEFINITELY a big screen movie, though, which is problematic for many of us right now. King of the Monsters is still better. Longer version: So, since the pandemic has completely shut down movie theatres in our area, other than drive-ins, the spouse and I decided to rent this off of Youtube of all places. $25 for 48 hour rental. Not bad. Our connection is stable enough that we were able to watch it on the 105cm widescreen with moderately high quality and no framedrops or streaming hiccups. In fact, given how much trouble Youtube gives me on my own computer, I'm kinda wondering what the deal is there . . . ANYWAY. As far as plot goes: Don't worry about it. Like most movies of this nature, the plot is mainly there to just hurry up and get you to the next fight scene. It's not completely flimsy, and the plotholes are forgiveable. It's definitely not a cerebral film. You'll probably see things coming from miles away. Visuals are pretty solid. The facial expressions of Kong are good, but it's the facial expressions of Godzilla that really got me going! There's one in particular that is hard to describe without being a spoiler, and I know people hate those, so I'll play nice. The film is FAR LESS murky than either of the previous Godzilla movies. They really want you to be able to SEE the fights this time. Audio . . . eh. King of the Monsters soundly defeats Godzilla versus Kong on this front. It's probably one of the weakest parts of the movie. Not -bad,- but definitely not as heart-pounding and inspiring as it could have been. The real point of the movie, though, is the Fun Factor! And here is where it really wins! My spouse and I were both shouting at the TV at various points. It felt like watching a sporting event at times. There's a lot of passion and fun evident from the people who made this movie. None of the actors seem to be phoning it in, and they're all just so animated and playing their roles with aplomb. Even if this thing is built on predictable tropes and characters can be a little inconsistent at times, it all comes together with enough energy to just drive the whole thing forward! And when there aren't actors chewing up the scenery with campy dialogue or elastic facial expressions, there are giant monsters ripping each other apart! But . . . then again, King of the Monsters delivered on that too, and Ghidora was a truly magnificent villain. The "big bad" in this movie just can't compete with that, let alone the tag-team battle of Mothra and Godzilla versus Rodan and Ghidora in King of the Monsters. Although, it's definitely interesting to see a battle where a higher level of tactical combat is at play. Ghidora may have been intelligent, but Godzilla's enemies in -this- movie are much more cunning. And there are apparently a number of easter eggs in this movie, but again; King of the Monsters is just WAY MORE on point when it comes to homage of the classic era Toho monster movies. Overall, I recommend Godzilla versus Kong. Have yourself a fun time! I'm very curious about where they'll take the franchise next time.
  12. I think I saw you in Cap au Diable a couple of nights ago, @Ironwolfe! I believe we complimented one another's backstories. Have you tried "Para Bellum" or "Parabella," or some other variations?
  13. I've been using that phrase for years. So, naturally, I totally forgot where it originated from. Does anyone have any ideas about the earliest source of the phrase? Thanks in advance.
  14. Just typing: "@" + "DoctorDitko" = @DoctorDitko (assuming your browser and/or device supports this feature)
  15. Thoughts: Yes. Feedback: Yes. Appreciated: VERY yes. The zoom toggle has bugged me since the beginning of time. I've been hearing the line of "we'd like to improve the Character Creator, but it's hard" both during Legacy and Homecoming, so . . . I guess I'll just keep on dreaming the dream.
  16. My take on things is to encourage players to be something -other- than level 50, and then maybe we'd be seeing more interest in the sub-50 PvP zones. But THAT topic is a very, very, VERY messy thing to get in to . . . this probably isn't the thread for it. As it stands: All the PvP zones could stand to be a bit more interesting, as far as I'm concerned. Arena PvP doesn't interest me, and I really don't think Zone PvP should play the same way as Arena PvP. Sadly, as we saw with the changes back on Page 1 of Issue 27, it seems the Devs do not concur with my point of view.
  17. Indeed. There's probably a host of backend that needs to happen first to allow a player who is presently logged in to a specific character to have some capacity to also access the login server/character database simultaneously. And I have NO idea how feasible that is. That's a part of the code which I haven't even made an effort to look at yet.
  18. --- Posting this part separately so GMs may opt to prune this at their discretion without removing the preceding positive post. --- I received a number of private messages related to that other topic after my most recent posts there this morning. If anyone else needs it; I offer a safe space, free from judgement, to discuss the topic further. I can be contacted in-game on my main account most frequently ( @VileTerror ) or through these forums' private messaging feature ( https://forums.homecomingservers.com/profile/14320-vileterror/?tab=field_core_pfield_1 - please check to see which of my profiles is currently active before messaging me to improve the likelihood that I'll give a prompt reply). THIS IS _NOT_ AN INVITATION TO ENGAGE IN THE ACTIVITY DISCUSSED IN THAT OTHER THREAD. THIS IS _NOT_ AN INVITATION TO DISCUSS THAT TOPIC IN THIS THREAD. Please, excuse my indulgence with this one post, and keep this thread on track as a space to celebrate the good work of the Homecoming Team. Thank you.
  19. Special thanks to @GM Impervium and everyone else on the Homecoming Team for being mature, cool, level-headed, and respectful in regard to that recent topic. I appreciate your approach on that particular matter, as it's such a potential powder keg. I realize the community is not really able to openly discuss that topic in depth, so seeing that thread being allowed to remain open as long as it did was really encouraging to me.
  20. There was a follow-up to that, @DougGraves. "The way you build each of those Defenders can radically redefine their niche." Cold Domination is a GREAT example of that. You can build it with team-buffing in mind. You can build it with enemy debuffing in mind. You can largely ignore it and focus on your Secondary Blast Set. You can proc it out and do some weird and wild shit! All of these are valid ways to play the character, and the ultimate "niche" the character falls in to is subject to these wide variations. Sure, there are members of this community which hold to a personal definition of "best" or "correct" for builds, but I think it would hardly be in the spirit of what makes City of Heroes -City of Heroes- if we tried to hold EVERYONE to those standards.
  21. . . . is now a bad time to bring up the death threats that get bandied around against game devs? Frequently for things completely outside of the control or input of said devs. And then there are the threats of an arguably worse nature which tend to get flung at devs who also happen to be "different people." None of it is okay or acceptable, and we should't make excuses for it. I'm glad you brought this up @Techwright, as it helps to address the problem if we ever want to find real solutions. These are important topics to discuss, however . . . given the code of conduct for this forum, this thread might be operating on borrowed time. Just something to be mindful of.
