Poor Shield Offsets As always, not quiiiiite what you had in mind in your list of bugs, but please tell me to hide my post instead of doing so if you disagree with the bug classification -- that way I can grab and post it elsewhere as a request. NOTE: I tried to only report the egregious issues, since this setting cannot be perfect. I did fall down a rabbit hole and reported more than intended. I apologize some of these seem to break the "clipping with other parts" rule, but these are all gloves which have a dedicated Offset value, and really it just seemed like reporting them in-batch with Mecha and Ascension was for the best. Male > Upper (Tights) > Gloves > Mecha This is definitely due to the FX add-ons to the piece, but they really don't justify this massive gap: The tiny shield is Vanguard when "closed" :: "Full chonk" enabled: :: beefy PPD Riot shield: I think reducing this so the extra fin clips through the back of the shield a bit would be good. I think that would be a justifiable "middle ground" gap, and we could pair with Asymmetry to use "clean" on that side in a costume slot while shield is enabled. ""> "" > Gloves > Celestial Armor 1 Please move this one OUT a bit. The gloves consist of 2 balls and if one doesn't protrude through a given shield, the other invariable will. Cavalier :: Riot Shield :: "" > Gloves > Resistance Needs an offset value. Impressive: "" > Gloves > Circle of Thorns 3 Good luck? I think "use Asymmetry" may be the best fix here. "" > Gloves > Ascension As with Mecha, doesn't make sense for it to be out this far. Given the FX is ephemeral lights, seems like it would be better quality to let it come through the other side (a feature?) instead of a floating shield. :: I guess Force Fields are cool too though.

If testing something (e.g. not concerned about aggro), run up right next to them, type /whereami Then click the link this generates in the chat log. I think /loc may have been updated to function like this as well.

What do you think is the most even power set?
Replacement replied to Kung Fu Cow's topic in General Discussion
My recommendation is basically anything with a Shield. Low end costs make it forgiving through the early-mid levels. Great combined protections. Crazy effective damage amp. Several choices can be delayed or even skipped to grab other gems you were eyeing. All of this combines to make a smooth and fun experience, even before you get the iconic mini-nuke + gap-closer. It's even a great set into the late game, and is a fan-favorite of many of the Builder Elite, so the consistency never ends. -
The idea was to get it more accurate. Previously, they had a power called Phalanx Fighting, which was nothing but base stats (now Roman Armor), and a second power called Energized Shield (Which is also a player ability from Energy Aura -- it even had that same description about "kinetic energy!") which provided the stacking bonus defense for each nearby friend. Since something happened in a previous patch (would've been like... towards the beginning of HC, btw) and we were restoring it anyway, the mindset goes "may as well make these names make sense." So Phalanx Fighting (self buff only) --> renamed to Roman Armor. Energized Shield (ally-scaling buff) --> renamed Phalanx Fighting. The higher-than-normal target cap is small fries. Take a look at Behemoth version of Invincible to get another good example of powers being wildly different on critters (it's just like ours, but it's something like +20% defense per nearby player! Ours gives like 1%!) EDIT: as for the actual defense numbers - there were no intentional changes there. Still good to bring up, in case there's some other change that was overlooked, like some edits to all versions of Kinetic Shield that may have accidentally grabbed that entry. EDIT2: Ok, I'm feeling foolish. I didn't realize the patch notes had been edited to include the full lay of the land vis-a-vis power name musical chairs. That means the only really relevant thing I've added here is that NPC powers cheat. As you were!

issue 27 Patch Notes for August 24th, 2021

PSA: this means Cimerorans now have their ally-scaling defense bonus restored. Unlike the player version of Phalanx fighting, it also provides mez protection! -
Thunder/Incandescent Strike Cast Times
Replacement replied to Savantir's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This would be it. For some reason, I was only focusing on Blasters. For Elec Melee, yeah it gets a lot harder to justify buffing with the amount of aoe they have.. There's an argument that 4x aoes isn't that much aoe if two of them are unusably slow, but I don't know that we're at that point. -
Thunder/Incandescent Strike Cast Times
Replacement replied to Savantir's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
2 quick points of order: I don't think the AoE comparison works -- Thunder Strike is directly competing with End of Time, Thorn Burst, Frozen Aura... etc. All of which are 2s cast times. More importantly - It turns out Thunder Strike is using the same 2.533s cast time as Total Focus, etc. The only fella I see left out in the cold is the Peacebringer, and if you're a human PB up there doing fisticuffs, I think you deserve the 2.5s cast time version. -
I think a comfortable medium that is also thematic as hell would be minor concealment. Not perfect, so it won't help vs people literally standing on you, but enough that you could stagger up at the periphery would be good. We always see it in comics and action movies, where the good guy wakes up/isn't dead afterall and slowly gets into position for their surprise counterattack.

There are 2 of these that I found - one has more detail and also connects to the hands. From my (limited) testing, they actually avoided most clipping, including when I paired them with extremely bulky costume details like giant gloves and shoulders, but I think it would still run afoul of many belt options. Here's the rub: they're both chest details, but they are visibly adding to the waist (and gloves in the case of the more detailed version). I think it will boil down to if HC thinks this is a slot violation (the Talons skirt I want so badly is in the Shoulder slot), or if they decide it's chest detail enough, and the other bits are just nice. Personally, I think the Black Knight chest pieces with shoulder bits have already bent that precedent. Other things: * It needs to disable capes, the way Gunslinger 3 belt does. * There are several textures on the more detailed one that may have enough color issues to avoid. TL;DR: I've looked into these myself - there are good reasons for HC to vote include OR leave. Surprisingly, I don't think clipping is the top concern.
-
Pretty sure you insinuated: A) people who want a thing that can be achieved through keybinds are inherently lazy or stupid (reference: car rant) B) That people who spend 4 hours in the costume creator are the aforementioned people. You also threw in, for good measure, a moral argument against making suggestions in a suggestion forum. The rest of your post I only started to quote is full of venom that fails a very simple test: you assumed poor intent. They did not whine. They did not demand. They did not insist. They did not say this change needs to happen soon. You decided all of this, in your own brain. No wonder you're so tired of everyone else, when you've worked so hard to believe we must all be so awful.

can we get consistency with fold space location?
Replacement replied to Bartacus's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Yep, I have a feeling the logic is "draw a line FROM the target to the caster, stop when collision is encountered." I think this just does weird things with the power's check on where you are and the server's check. The occasional forced line dance is a bit weirder, but always amuses me. I'm instead having trouble with their arrival timing. I've read other people saying that because they all try to exist in the same spot for a moment, a queued cone hits them all. But I've had no luck with this. I've also tried folding into Drain Psyche, and it's surprisingly easy to activate too soon and drain nothing. -
Gentle reminder: Stop assuming your fellow players are awful and idiots for wanting an innocent QoL feature.
-
The post you're quoting is talking about binding your move keys to also toggle on your powers, so they're using less keys.
-
You can now do: /Powers_togglealloff But not the opposite. Even ignoring the balance concerns, implementation seems annoying (found toggle: prestige power slide. Enabled. Found toggle: sprint. Enabled. What's this? Found toggle: prestige power slide. Enabled... Ad infinitum).

For the sake of completeness, I have included below the list of the game's Contain/Intangible powers. These all have "Immobilize" components but Do not have any Knockback stats. Purpose: a list of all Immobilizes (and in further posts, related powers) set up with Knockback interactions that run counter to the "rule" that may-or-may-not officially exist. I believe many of these (or even all of them) are bugs, depending on what the rule ends up becoming. The only player-accessible Immobilizes I have skipped (to my knowledge) are those that follow the rule of NOT applying protection, but DO apply resistance. Stuff to know if you don't know what I'm talking about: There are a lot of powers (some immobilizes, ice holds) that add +knock resist (turns knockbacks into knockdowns) and +knock protection (makes enemy immune to knocks more or less entirely). At some point (I think during the Snap), many Immobilizes were designated to have either the Resist added or the Protection removed. I believe this was "trial ran" to ensure it would have good results. The rule of thumb: If a power gives Knockback protection - probably bad. Prevents Knocks entirely. If a power gives Knockback resistance - usually good. Since this is a number like 10,000%, it turns all knockbacks into KDs for as long as they are mezzed. The Inconsistencies: We currently lack a true definition of intent for the game going forward. This can invalidate a lot of what can be construed as a bug. I am operating under the rule that all Immobilizes should have Knock resistance but not protection, but that could be updated to something like "every Control set shall have an ST and AoE knockback reducer." There are holds and other thematic considerations that may always require their own rules. Right now, the big exceptions are * "Ice block" holds that fully encase your enemy - these all provide mez resist and protection, and that may be warranted. There are a few other powers that may deserve the same treatment. * Gravity Holds have the KB reducers instead of the Immobilize powers. This is a bit goofy, but ok. Data time Every power in the following list should be considered "flagged for review." I have marked many on my own version of this data as "bug" and I am happy to color code these accordingly, but I have left that out for now. Epic powers are some of the biggest offenders. Note that due to me listing it out here by AT, many of these are data duplicates despite referencing the same file (Tanker and Brute, for example). Final reminder for reading these tables: KB Protection bad, KB Resistance good. Well. This is an interesting topic. I think one thing @GraspingVileTerror has wandered near a few times in this thread is the old Skinner Box concept and it's heavy use in MMOs, to the point that many players conflate grind rewards with "fun." I bring it up because I know a lot of people look to simplify a topic like this down to "I'm still playing, so it's fun." But if you cannot break down what keeps you coming back, you run the risk of being taken advantage of, either in big, destructive ways or in a million little swindles over your lifetime to make someone's engagement stats look good. I've probably linked this before, but if you find yourself feeling like "game makers* just aren't as nefarious as all of that," I would direct you to this mobile developer presentation: (Warning: redside content detected) Tl;dr: we need conversations like this for more people to realize "I'm still playing so I must be having fun" is just the lie that is taught. The more folks understand this, the better tomorrow's games can be. i had intended some more literal, personal takes at this point but... I don't think it belongs in this post. EDIT:*Not all game makers, obviously. I think most people in the industry likely still hold the little light of hope in their souls that what they build is for good, and beautiful. But that hasn't stopped every major game corp from finding devs complicit in the development of these features.
-
And you're not in the position to make the assumption you did. Every time anyone asks for more transparency with the dev team, they only need remember sentences like these to understand why it's always short-lived. But in the meantime, you have been the advocate of "fix the abusive procs; not the proc system" and Player-1 has directly asked for clarification on that point. It seems you could be doing more with the spotlight than shooting the messenger.

Alternative take on @Xing's idea that may be easier to implement: Have Rez powers (especially self-rez) remove a portion of Debt on activation, scaled based on character level. One odd effect this would have: since you can work off debt while dead, this basically means the faster you rez, the more xp goes to your actual XP bar instead of working off debt. More importantly, it means adding a few entries to the power definitions which is likely much easier than finding the mechanism that assigns debt deep in the game engine.
-
...I don't know what the hell kind of crazy that other dude is saying, but the crux of @arcane's issue is the proactive part of it: getting booted from parties before being able to prove yourself. We're well aware of gear shaming and such in other games, including booting people from parties because they have some number that's not big enough, or some talent selection that isn't meta enough. Having this "shame score" following you around would bring nothing good, but opens the door to bring in a considerable amount of bad. -- OP idea: I agree with it, have wanted it for years. It's not about the impact of debt -- it's about a sense of failure, and how many of us skip self-rez powers because we feel like we have failed any time we use it. Simply having it save you from initial debt is a psychological approach to justifying those powers, instead of "if I'd instead grabbed X, I wouldn't have died in the first place." Edit: sorry, arcane. I somehow totally missed your last post, which I basically just duplicated and made more verbose.

I would love to see Ninjutsu come to the tank-capable melee Archetypes, and I have a weird way to do it: put their taunt aura on a pet instead of the caster. So a quick breakdown of what that would look like: Probably based more on the Scrapper version. Replace one of the powers. Example paths: Combine the heal/end restore Shinobi-Iri (all defense+stealth+crit chance) cannot port as-is anyway, so you could remove it entirely. Removing Blinding Powder could also work, but tool-usage is on-theme and I believe the set will want guaranteed access to a multi-target attack (more on this later). The new power: Teleports you to very nearby location (probably something like a 25' max range - same as the Origin ranged attacks) Leaves a clone of you behind that is destructible, but durable, and has a taunt aura. If replacing Shinobi-Iri, could also include its minor defense (melee/ranged/aoe)+stealth for a short duration. Must have a low cooldown, as this will be your bread-and-butter. I cannot actually know if it would have enough aggro control to able to tank with, but my instinct is to say that it would work due to: Guaranteed Taunt (the power) access for both ATs. Gauntlet/Pokevoke combined with any amount of aoe Blinding Powder providing guaranteed in-set access to an aoe attack for triggering the taunt Inherents In exchange for a bit lower taunt reliability, Tankers and tanking Brutes would benefit from an increased effective aggro cap (because their pet could take on 17 more targets). I suggested Kawarimi in the Thread title as the name for this, because that seems to be the common cultural word for it (it's not just the Naruto word for it). But there are some other words that could work as well, or just use a westernized name like "Mislead." Numbers: There is an issue, which is that the numbers on Scrapper Ninjutsu are actually crazy-high. I have broken down the numbers and overwhelming advantages in the Spoiler below, but here is the TL;DR: -- The +Defense toggles should drop down to the same level as Shield's version (15%). -- Bo Ryaku (Auto Knock protection and Res(all)) is too good, and should be replaced with a more targeted version. I suggest reducing it to only supply elemental resists (F/C/N/E) and allow the relative "hole" to Smashing/Lethal to exist with the expectation that your clone will tank a lot of that for you.
