Scrappers aren't "relying on" Confront for anything - and its usage statistics back this up. And it's not like "screaming at just one guy with no one else noticing" is part of the Scrapper brand. If taunting is so important to YOUR fiction, there's a pool for that, and that meets your arbitrary criteria that pools are fluff. If ST pulling is your aim, then you don't care about fluff and you can grab blackwand for free (and an extra 10' of reach). I'm not going to convince you, I just want you to know why I cannot accept your argument. Tbh though, I'll root for any change that makes them more unique from Brutes. Edit: apologies on misunderstanding the aoe taunt part. Right, you said if anything do pbaoe, not targeted. Still not my vote but at least it's different from Brute.

It makes more sense to buff Provoke than to keep 20 (twenty) powers useless just because you don't feel like using a ranged attack to pull. I always find it weird when people oppose gap-closer on a conceptual level - just don't take it? Afterall, you aren't opposed to making it aoe so a buffed Provoke is, again, the better avenue for you. This must be tied to the ingrained idea that pool powers have to suck. Insufficient to make Confront at all a decent pick. You know how I know? It already does that. https://cod.uberguy.net/html/power.html?power=scrapper_melee.dark_melee.taunt&at=scrapper Edit: rereading this, Haijinx. Are you saying ST mag 4 taunt plus an additional aoe mag 4 taunt, ditto on the -range? I was reading it as "give confront the same -range debuff" but now I'm doubting.
-
Considering none of my family holidays are complete until someone references this clip, I very much appreciate this.
-
The other part is, if you don't mind the AOE, Provoke exists and could be buffed to accommodate the loss of Confront. As for the specifics, it's absolute pipe dream material (amount of work required) but I would like to see individualized treatment per set, with different pros/cons. For example, giving Martial Arts Burst of Speed, straight up, also helps patch that set's aoe weakness

What sucks is, all of the power budget of these 2 ATs is focused into the 8 other powers of their sets. They get to be as strong as they are with the assumption of - at most - 8 of their purchases sunk into primaries. @Captain Powerhouse has had some ideas for buffing Placate in the past which I think would be mostly well-received so pinging in case he would like to farm some forum Rep today. Personally, I'd like to see it turned into a cone, auto-hit on main target only. For Confront, I used to argue for a "hero" button like you mentioned - high threat taunt or even a target lock status effect (like when it's used vs players). But these days, I lean towards Cottage Burning it for a savage leap-esque gap-closer. People in the past rejected that, iirc one person insisted they needed it to pull individual targets. Honestly, I'm not sure how it makes sense to shout at just one dude, and besides there are Pool attacks. The compromise version (and also far easier to implement) was just adding a few-second move speed burst to the activation effect.

Light Control: A Luminous PBAoE Control Powerset
Replacement replied to Blackfeather's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Just posting to say - I've had this thread open for 2 weeks. I intend to give this a go-over. I'm aware there are special mechanics at play so I don't think I can give good commentary based solely on the short descriptions (so instead I'm clogging up the thread with a non-commentary post?) ...To be continued once I can give it a good read.- 101 replies

The issue with that is, we keep seeing "you don't like/ know how to play the set" in response to being fundamentally dissatisfied with the math. It's not the end of world to have a linear system (healing) compete with multiplicative systems (defense and resist), but it's a lot of extra work the original devs never followed up on - being told "don't play Regen" isn't at all an honest response or even acknowledgement of what's being discussed. I like how Regen plays, with 4 non-congruous Clicks to juggle to stay alive (which is a large part of why I dislike the common suggestion to turn IH into a toggle). But gameplay and performance are not synonyms. (In case it's not clear, this isn't an attack on you - just an explanation)

"The Game is not Balanced around IO's"..... should it be?
Replacement replied to Galaxy Brain's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't be opposed to making them free but self-delete at level 20. ...Or make them only apply if you don't slot IOs. Well shit, now I'm going to spend the next hour theorizing on the impact of a dumb idea. -
This is absolutely fair. Of course, all kill speed solo tests are in situations where even the Scrapper survives. I think it would be unfair and misleading of me, but I could just as easily say "it's unfair that a scrapper can double my tanker's clear time and not even die. What are they giving up to pay for that damage?" I wouldn't, because Scrappers cannot regularly tank, but it feels about as relevant as talking about Pylon performance.
-
I'm seeing the same data as you. "Well yeah Brutes are clearing faster but not much faster." Meanwhile, Brutes only meaningful survival penalty is the max hp cap. Meanwhile, no one wants to mention that Brutes are the only AT with a completely unfettered version of any high-scale attack like Energy Transfer - Scrappers and even Stalkers get their crit bonus damage humbled, tanker aoe never applies, but Fury makes no distinction and multiplies those attacks dutifully. To me, there are justified Tanker nerfs but they're all indirect: Performance based on procs is accurate but needs a massive call-out -- we know PPM isn't where the old or new devs wanted it to be and is a more fruitful endeavor anyway. Tanker cones should probably have a target cap of 8 instead of 10. They are not due to (as I understand it) tier precedent of powers going 5>10>16 but I think the p4 buffs warranted a new precedent. This is a "performance expectation" thing. AoE is still meta. If anything, it's yet another reason for people to be pushing for new difficulties and reward structures. A simple setting to upscale "objective" bosses to EBs would do a lot for slow AS, single target sets, and a lot of debuff support powers.
-
The reasoning for this topic, and all of its proponents, sure sounds to me like: "We're mad that Brutes are at all comparable to other options now." Sorry, I originally had a better take with analysis but this is how these arguments honestly read to me and the forums ate my more nuanced take.

I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't say that's reason not to try to at least close the gap. Some simple ones: Lower activation delays on heals (moves the heal to the front of the animation) Add slow resist and probably some more resist for -Regen Move Resilience earlier I think those wouldn't be too controversial, right? Makes it more playable, more enjoyable to actually level, but doesn't add a lot of theoretical survival. From there, I still think the set is lacking in breadth of playability. Here's my personal thoughts but I'm sure everyone would go a different direction: Combine some of the autos (note that bio Inexhaustible has about the power of 3 Regen autos) Add something with a mild offensive boost (which almost every armor set has something for. It could just be called Build Up Again) Instant healing needs work. Personally, I hate it as a toggle. But 650 second cooldown for an effect that will only maybe be needed because it's a regeneration effect creates an unreasonably obtuse usability issue - you can almost never be sure you needed it. I've mentioned before I would personally be interested in having it auto-rez you while active, but a very simple reduction in duration and cooldown would be fine. Scaling Regeneration as health decreases, or similar "sliding scale" mechanics, can help alleviate that binary I'm invincible/I'm dead issue.

Eco-Friendly Powerset Recycling!

Weirdly, I kind of think either or both of those sets would be interesting with Lethal damage components. Then again, maybe I'm just liking the idea of dark/lethal because I just finished Shadow and Bone. I also like the -accuracy on the light sets.- 792 replies

I believe this is exactly correct. There is a particular "style" of mission that simply searches for valid doors. You can see this in action if you run an arc in a party and everyone gets the same mission in different zones. These missions are definitely older than i16, so they have no idea what alignment is. This is entirely conjecture from me, but it makes sense to me that a simple "list" check would run when you first pick up the mission -- "you're red side? Consult this list to find a red door." And then when you click, it probably runs a (perhaps added post-GR?) Error check saying this isn't a valid door for YOU - and then reroutes you accordingly. It's interesting that I didn't run into this issue, but that might be due to a) Ouroboros or b) perhaps I kept waiting until I was away from the Rogue Isles before calling it in. Unimportant but for the sake of clarity: I ran several several Harvey Maylor missions before giving up and taking the arc through ouro instead. It's possible some of those Hunts were pre-arc.
-
I've been slowly running Harvey's arc via ouro for... About 3 months! (I don't log onto the character often) As a vigilante, I had the same thought. I was able to do this at least 3 times. Basically, it boils down to the age old difference between "hunt 30 carnies in PI" vs "hunt 30 carnies. You can find them in Pi". The latter doesn't actually care.

Tl:dr for the entire thread seems to be: elec is a bit behind fire but not as far behind as people think. Let's go to war over the single-digit percentages? My opinion, based on how I and my friends play and not spreadsheet attack chains: Elec blast is fine enough, but "almost as good as other sets" with no discernible secondary effect feels bad. There's no amount of proving its high-end worth to change that.

Eco-Friendly Powerset Recycling!

@Tyrannical Have you looked into swiping some Peacebringer powers? Any time I think about a radiation mastery my brain sidetracks into "Luminous" masteries instead, probably with some radiation powers to fill in the gaps. Less so Umbral from Warshade because we already have a ridiculous amount of Dark and Soul powers, but I suppose good to keep in mind for filling out missing dark themes.- 792 replies

That's why they're worded as they are. No mention of soul, no mention of permanence. They just take some ambiguous "essence" which might be a portion of their soul if you're a magic warshade or it might be some of their calories for all we know. It's silly and ambiguous, but the implication is much clearer when you're making a ghost from their body that they won't be using the medi-porter today. That is so ingrained in fiction that even if you put "some of their essence" in the flavor text, we would all "know." You're free to disagree and frankly the HC devs may decide those days are behind us; that's fine and I don't care. I just know the game always aims to keep non-lethal versions of characters in mind. What you are talking about is likely to be the cause of death. Or maybe in your mind your character uses psychic stun blades, or the flat back of the katana, or just does whatever it was Leonardo was always doing in the cartoon. The standard media implication of "I'm making a ghost from your body" is that you will not make a full recovery.

The Problem with New Interface Abilities
Replacement replied to JayboH's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Or just duplicate the secondary effects. You can only have 1 equipped, so it just becomes an alternative for better matching a theme. -
All fair. To me, everything else supports the tactics of those more direct booby traps (in design moreso than in typical play) but it's super ok that we have different reads on the set. But I do feel updates to the set should make an attempt to emphasize an actual "trapper" playstyle, including all related tactics. So this is why I propose things like giving Triage the Faraday Cage treatment, where it may as well be mobile, but still keeps the playstyle themes intact. It still achieves the goal of being more mobile, without sacrificing on the theme any more than ffg already does (it also frees up more power budget for other tweaks). Sidenote: location stealth on Triage would be super interesting for orchestrating Ambushes, especially with AM being unafraid of aggroing new groups while you lie in wait.
-
@Arbegla I'm not saying you're intended to pull everything back to mission entrance. I'm saying you create locations and hold them. And I am definitely saying toe-bombing wasn't intentional. Source: the definition of the word "trap." Enforcing gameplay that makes it have the same "directly affect enemies with no regard for position" just makes it a thematically disjointed version of everything we already have. I do not see the point. Likewise, I don't see a lot of call to make bubble buffs into limitless duration toggles. You can recast ffg to refresh the pet before the previous expires, and it's hardly a painful animation to wait for. I don't see the need to make triple-boxed pocket support more hands-free. I'm all for QoL, but not auto-battle.
