  1. The issue however though is you can out level your contacts even with only 1x XP on goldside.
  2. That and Venomous Gas has a radius of 15 feet, Achilles and Lady Grey for example both have a 3.5ppm rate. When applying the size of the radius and proc rate to the equation you end up with a 21.71% chance of the proc going off every 10 seconds. So yes it works better when saturated by enemies in melee but you end up with little better than 1/5 mobs affected. I might slot an Achilles proc if I have the spare room, and in one case I chased some set bonuses here if I had plenty of spare slots, but I usually two slot it with two lvl 53 Enzymes as I typically find other powers that make a better proc cannon on a character.
  3. The devs seed the market for salvage and super packs. Recipes and IOs are added by the players.
  4. Fiery Aura is not bad and you can get decent resistances out of it but I feel you get better res out of DA. You'll get more offense with FA considering it has burn and fiery embrace. Between the two powersets, I'd argue Dark Armor has more utility and overall survivability than FA. DA also has better exotic resistances. That said it's your toon so play what you want. I just figured for your theme and requirement to have at least one fire powerset that DA/FM seemed to stand out to me. Also you don't have to retire anything. I have maybe 5 or 6 Dark Armor toons, and about 5 Fiery Aura toons.
  5. I have a BS/SD/Soul Stalker myself. The guide linked by @Zerethonabove still has some pretty reasonable insight. You can make a pretty tanky stalker with Shield Defense. It gets the 2nd most DDR after SR. Shield Charge doesn't break hide as it's a pseudo pet. Grant cover is amazing especially when running an all shield defense team on something like the ITF. I typically go soul on most scrappers/stalkers for moonbeam and shadow meld otherwise a proc'd char and melt armor can be fun as well.
  6. Dark Armor/Fire Melee/Soul would bey combo for a space genie. Space is pretty vast and dark, so dark armor seems like a perfect fit. It has tons of utility, can get amazing resistances, one of the best heals in the game. Pairing with Fire Melee you now have some -def to use which makes fire melee so much better than it was previously. Soul mastery is one of my favorite patrons for a tanker because of gloom/darkest night. That said you could go energy and leverage focused acc on top of tactics with a kismet proc for massive tohit.
  7. Fire/psi domis used to be the FOTM for farming CoV after IOs were invented. Also you can always recolor things like fire to look like dark black flames. Just sayin. But yes I agree with Snarky that Dark Armor is amazing. Properly built, it's one of the best armors in the game.
  8. Poison is a great powerset however it gets bypassed by a number of people because they might not understand how to get the best leverage out of the set. I would suggest reading @Frosticus's poison guide on the forums. The main take away is that you want to build so you can be in melee range to maximize your debuffs, and also learn how to stack the debuffs by alternating targets as the main debuff of Envenom and Weaken is single target, and the AoE portion is a lesser version of that. So as you alternate casting those.aoills on your targets you'll get the maximum debuff value. Additionally you'll want endurance to keep working, and mez protection helps you keep your venomous gas debuff active as opposed to be in a suppressed state. I play multiple high end poison toons across each AT that allows it including a Poison/Rad Defender. There's plenty of ways to build a character but understanding how to leverage it to maximum effect is paramount to enjoying Poison.
  9. I've literally years of experience with fire/em and ice/em blasters as I used to almost only log on for the sole purpose of PvP back during the live test ladder league days. The experience before IOs even existed cemented in me the idea of mobility and jousting in for your melee attacks. To this day while pugging I'll occasionally see someone else jousting mobs in PvE play and more often than not I find out they either actively PvP or were at one point or another. That joust mentality helps you leverage positioning to maximum effect as you take into account not just your own powers, but also the powers of your target (their ability to counterattack). But nowadays you can build a blaster that can stand toe to toe with almost any npc in the game without having to worry about positioning so it's a dying skill set in the game. The melee attacks in manipulation secondaries can definitely hit hard so I agree that having the mindset that a blaster is more about being an overall DPS toon than a ranged DPS toon. Additionally there's some newer blaster secondaries that have some really interesting mix of effects including control abilities. I have an Ice/Plants blaster that plays like a harder hitting dominator with a sustain and it's a very fun combo.
  10. With my traps characters I find it's a perfect opportunity to work in fold space to the build and teleport everyone onto the traps I have set. Maybe that's just my playstyle when on a traps character but it works well.
  11. Welcome and Happy Valentine's day. This week the discussion veers to the game's Valentine's Event. It's been around for a long time with some tweaks here and there. What do you think the state of the event is? Do you enjoy the content? Are their any issues with the event that you have? If given carte blanche what would you do to change the event? Is there anything else that would be engaging for you that would match the event? Thanks again folks.
  12. Elec/TA or Earth/TA would be interesting concepts trick Arrow controllers. I play plant/ta, ta/dp, and a/ta. On live I rolled a ta/psi. My favorite is likely my plant/ta do to the sheer chaos and damage it produces, followed by the dp/ta (due to higher debuff values and a great name, Unlimited Ammo).
  13. Wow I guess Alzheimer's is a thing. I remember trying to jump the wall and it being too tall. I guess it was lvl 7. At launch, I had a elec/elec blaster named Thunderspark on Guardian and I'm guessing I had lightning bolt, electric fence, ball lightning, lightning field, and short circuit by lvl 6, so I probably didn't get hover til 8.
  14. When the game first came out it used to be something to behold a character dinging lvl 6 and hovering over the Perez Park wall, or running free from trouble atop the trees. But yeah hitting lvl 14 and getting a legit travel powers felt like a developmental milestone.
  15. Way back in i2 when the Eden Trial was released, yes we used to burn a lot of it with Fire Tankers, but we couldn't have Focused Accuracy (as it didn't exist until i3). That's correct. Although the Eden Trial was added after the Hamidon. When i1 raised the level cap to 50, Hamidon was leveled to scale for lvl 50s. i1 also added the abandoned sewer trial for lvl 40s. i2 added the Cavern of Transcendence and the Eden Trial. The Eden Trial had a range from 39-41, and for the longest time a bug that the leader had to be in the level range to start it (couldn't be higher). But it dropped Titan-O's were like jr HOs for a range up to lvl 43 iirc.
  16. I have a seismic/sonic blaster that works well. It seemed like a thematic pairing. I typically play in in melee range though to make use of my disruption field, as I'm flattening mobs with meteora.
  17. On the screenshot you posted your Cloak of Fear hit 3/4 times. All those misses are whoever Katara Catjitsu missing with Swipe and Strike. Here's the cod link for CoF: https://cod.uberguy.net/html/power.html?power=brute_defense.dark_armor.cloak_of_fear&at=brute
  18. Despite what anyone's convictions hold them to and the fact that there is no multiplayer, a friend gifted me a copy of Hogwarts Legacy as we used to geek out about Harry Potter quite a bit. I've played a couple hours and so far the game seems really well done. it's almost like being transported to Hogwarts. An interesting note is that most of the characters refer to the player character using the they/them pronouns despite whether you pick being a witch or a wizard. So it's a bit of a nice gesture in spite of some of the comments from the author of the book series in recent years.
  19. So I've a bit of a career in the public sector and cities can incorporate as a charter city or home rule city depending on State law. I'm not from Rhode Island, but typically the land starts as a Township, Section, and Range and a group of people would incorporate with the idea of shared services (typically emergency services, schools, roads, etc.) and create a funding source for that depending on their charter whether through property taxes, tax increment financing districts, central utilities (water/sewer), city sales taxes, or some combination thereof. The city would then create a comprehensive plan to guide the city and codify it's Code of Ordinances. The city I live in was founded in 1999 due to a needed response from a string of wildfire, but was starting to develop as a township for about 20 years prior to that. Fast forward to today, and the city population is an estimated 100,000 people. Given Paragon City it's entirely possible an event occured to charter the city in 1823. Sorry for the somewhat long post, I geek out a bit on this stuff.
  20. Not to interfere with the dance goin on, but personally if I was soloing content and aiming to focus more on single target than AoE, I'd roll a Stalker personally. The two ATO procs can be slotted as early as lvl 10 and they are game changers. You can stealth repetitive kill variable named boss and guards, and rush a glowie, and they excel at deleting bosses, and when built out they can be godly.
  21. I have one of those as a Brute. That combo is definitely fun, especially with a high recharge build to maximize perma soul drain, ablative carapace, DNA siphon, and parasitic aura. I made mine prior to the Tanker AoE changes, so I totally get it on a tank.
  22. I'm a theory crafting min-maxer at heart, but I try to avoid making the FOTM toons you see around the forums. That said I have enough toons that eventually people catch on and it is used more often. I prefer resistance based armor sets on tankers or brutes as opposed to scrappers/stalkers as others have pointed out the reasoning due to the way resistance caps work. Otherwise I mained a warlock in WoW for years, and used to love flying fast tackles, interdictors, and ECM boats in EVE, so it's natural that I love debuffs (as long as I'm putting them on my enemies and not the other way around). Due to that Defenders/Corruptors are probably my second/third favorite AT in the game, and it varies as I love sets that use rains and kins more as Corruptors than defenders. My favorite AT is surprisingly Warshades, but I really like the complexity of the AT, the lore, and it's shape shifting functionality. It's the AT I missed most before I found my way to playing CoH again. That said it's not without it's flaws but I'll keep those to the suggestions/feedback threads. Particular combos I've really enjoyed (in no particular order): DA/SS Tanker Fire/EM Blaster (I miss the old days when these were the kings of PvP) Ice/DM Corruptor Elec/Ninja Blaster Warshades Widows (I run three builds and hotswap during missions, I did say I like complexity) Poison/Rad Defender Fire/Poison Corruptor My old Spines/Regen Scrapper (sorry for getting IH nerfed btw) Stone/Rad Tankers (man I love the update to Stone Armor) Stone/Stone Stalker Elec/Psi Domi DM/Elec Defender Plants/TA Controller TA/DP Defender Storm Anything (it's such a great set. Back on live around i13 I used to love using an Earth/Storm Controller in 1v1 arena matches) Ill/Savage Domi These are just a few that have kept me entertained quite a bit.
  23. I'm not sure what that means. A blaster has more range and does more damage than corruptors or sentinels. I was attempting to stir the conversation so that people could discuss if there is a blast set that they prefer on one AT over another. For example I typically prefer Sonic Blast on a defender over a blaster to make better use of the defender debuff values over the blaster's increased damage.
  24. Maybe this is my inner geezer speaking, but having played since the Beta back in 2004, I personally I don't really care what AT people are playing as long as their competent enough with their character that they don't need hand holding. That said if a person is truly a new player I'm all for them playing as well, but if they are on a lvl 50 toon that's an unslotted AE baby I'm less inclined to team with them, especially on content that requires teamwork.
  25. I have no problem with having epic/patron armors all be available at lvl 35 as that would be equitable between each set. I don't think res shields need any buffs though. I think from a playstyle approach to building characters I was more inclined to use Scorpion Shield on characters that I didn't have a thematic or synergetic reason to use an alternative APP set. A lot of my defenders/corruptor's go Dark Mastery for Soul Drain and Dark Embrace. A lot of my Controllers/Dominators go Ice Mastery as every power in that pool is typically useful to some degree or another. The res buffs from the shields give a reasonable amount of resistances. Its not the end all be all of course, but they can help plug some holes reasonably well depending on your build. My favorite res shield is probably Dark Embrace because let's face it, it helps out quite a bit on the 2nd mission of an ITF and has use in other content as well.
