  1. A real life debuff, lol.
  2. That would have been the better option, however, honestly, just making stacking sounds an On/Off option would have been far easier than making it do what you ask here. What you suggest would take some serious code work. Both options take code work, but the one you ask for would take much much more than just making an On/Off button.
  3. Not that I am consciously aware of. Honestly, I think the people who gave a shit quit just as I did. I remember players quitting over the shield fade effect. So little by little over a long stretch of time, players who enjoyed the sounds kind of faded out. I seem to be the last player in City of Heroes who gives a shit. I could be wrong about that, but if others exist, I am most certainly the only player left who has said anything about it. Edit: Failure of comprehension of what you wrote. You were saying that I wrote that there was an outcry over sounds stacking. Yes, I did write that. I thought you meant that I wrote that players were upset over the removal of those sounds, which to my knowledge, only a select few players have made complaints about it on the Test Server forums. I assume those players quit over it, they were pretty upset. So I don't know if they are still here or not.
  4. Honestly, making it an option would not have been that difficult. Switching it to On would simply rerout the sound command to utilize the nonstacking sound files rather than the files that do stack. They would have simply had to create a new path for those sounds that would be utilized by the On/Off switch in options had they made one. Seeing what they can do with this game since they have let others play it, I would say this was well within their capabilities. I am the firm believer in that you don't make changes like this without making them an option. People were not quitting the game over it. Otherwise people who didn't like the sounds would have quit years ago. Those sounds have been in the game for over 18 years. If they were going to quit, they would have done so a looooong time ago. By removing those sounds without making it an option, I did however quit and absolutely will not return unless that is reverted and made an option. As far as the mods go, I mean, if somebody can download this game, they indeed had the ability to download the mods. The modder tool was far easier than downloading this game. Personally I feel anyone who used, "I don't know how" as their excuse is just pure lazy, especially since the alternative was to get the sounds nerfed and screw it up for everyone else. Well, waht's done is done, now I am just hoping that the Devs either help me understand why, when other options were available, or even more preferably, at some point bring back those sounds...all of them...with options.
  5. There used to be a mod just for that, I made it myself. It was on PK's Modder Tool, I offered my sound mods up to other modders to claim as their own, so I don't know if it is on the new sound modder tool or not, since I stopped playing just before PK quit and shut down his modder tool. So it's possible another sound modder picked it up and uploaded it to the new tool.
  6. Well, before Homecoming, the Default was with the stacking sounds. As far as which crowd is in the minority, I honestly can't imagine it being the ones who don't want the sounds, but I could be wrong. As far as what can and cannot be done with the sound files, the short answer without getting in to the technical aspect of it, is no. Sound modders can quiet sounds or even change them to something entirely new, but we cannot add back a stacking effect once it has been removed. We can overlay sounds, but the outcome is just a huge static of noise, that happens even if you only hit one entity.
  7. Dear Devs of Homecoming City of Heroes, I remember back when this game came out, one of the primary things about this game that I loved was how the AoE sound effects would stack per NPC that it hit. It was completely amazing and this was the first game I had ever played that brought that level of realism to a game. It made you feel like you were actually there. I fell in love immediately. It was a level of class from a sound team that had never been done before. The sound team for this game thought outside the box and brought to this game something that no other game had achieved, and it was powerful, invigorating and completely immersive. Then came the people rushing to the forums who wanted the sounds nerfed. First the toggles would fade out, leaving shield powers feeling very bland. Then came the Cone AoE for Warshades, then came the nerf against the sound effects for Kins. It seemed that one nerf lead to a new cry for more more more, it was never enough, it was never going to be enough until every last sound in game that made that stacking effect were finally obliterated from existence. In the end, the cries for nerfs won, that battle has been lost, that battle was lost right here on this very server. However, before that happened, when this game was brought back to the players, I quickly got to work making sound mods that toned down these sounds that people took issues with, I did this for people who didn't like them, this way there would no longer be any need for a sound nerf and those of us who loved them would be allowed to keep them. Adding these sound mods for the player base was made to be extremely easy; and I will quote from a famous commercial; "even a cave man could do it." Sadly, for whatever reason, my efforts were in vain when your staff decided to pretty much nerf every sound in game that stacked, thus completely removing that level of fun that I once had. I fought hard against that nerf before it was ever implemented, was called names by certain players, told that I just liked to troll people, even after other players made them aware of my mods that did the very thing that they wanted, to nerf sounds. Imagine that, me, a guy who spent endless hours creating sound mods to tone down sound effects for people who did not like them, or change them outright, being called a troll for wanting to keep those sounds even though I made a real effort to help make sound mods that people could use to alleviate those sounds so that those of us who loved them could keep them. It no longer matters, because your team nerfed them anyway. My Mods were the one thing that players could use in which everyone was happy. If you hated the sounds, you could just download my mods, all made easy to use and implement. If you loved the sounds, I had a long list of mods that would even change sound effects, it gave another level to the game that all could enjoy. There was already an option players could use to turn off those stacking sounds. It already existed, no nerf was ever needed. I ask in the most calm way I can muster, because honestly, I sting from that nerf every single day, I have not played this game a single day since those nerfs came out, but still I muster the strength to ask as politely as I can...why? Why was this done when an option existed already? Why remove that level of fun for everyone else? Why did you nerf the sounds when there was already in place a method for players to tone them down or even outright remove them all together? There was already a system in place that made it an option instead of a forced removal. An option existed, yet you nerfed them anyway. Why would you remove those sounds instead of putting in an option for players to remove them on their own? If anything, you could have brought back the long list of sounds that were already removed and added in an option to remove those sounds, while letting other players keep those sounds. Instead, what you did was completely remove those sounds all together and left us with a game that quite frankly, I can no longer enjoy. I don't expect that you will answer this question, it's not an easy question to answer, I'm sure. However, hopefully this letter will get you all talking at the round table and hopefully this letter will lead to solutions. Thanks for lending an ear. Your once loyal fan, Kal Trail.
  8. Not the Knight who say Ni! These are the SARS Knights who say Covid 19! (That actually rhymes.)
  9. His head game is the bomb.
  10. Unlike some insufferables on this forum, I will give you the respect of letting you know why you got a thumbs down from me. First, he never indicated that he did anything nor said anything to cause this player to quit his team, much less verbally gave this player complaint about any badge which is a complete fabrication. You used a strawman as an argument against him, and everyone who knows me knows that I absolutely hate when people use strawman arguments, it has become this forum's "I win" button weapon of choice for a very long time now. Secondly, pretending @Snarky is somehow without a life because he is sarcastic (most often in a comical way I might add) and indicate your credentials on this judgement by crediting some entity in the ether who "told" you this about sarcastic people begs the question, who here truly is without a life? Lastly, if this game is so fragile that we have to welcome each and every player by going out of our way to make them feel welcomed, then clearly the problem is not with Snarky, but within the game itself. In other words; your comment toward Snarky was uncalled for. Edit: And as I read on, I see you already recognized your error, so good on you for that. That is far more than most would do this day and age.
  11. There are many reason I quit the game. That is one of them. The way this game has been made so easy that Blasters can do what you witnessed is enough to just make you say, "What in the hell has happened to this game?" The apple has fallen FAR from the tree.
  12. Really wish you all would find a way to bring all of the stacking sound effects back as an option. It is the only thing I look for when you all add new stuff to the game.
  13. Nothing hidden that I am aware of. I was speaking on things like the Ice Graphics, for almost all Ice powers. Icicles used to look amazing to me, now...meh, they're okay I guess. You know, that type of thing. I do seem to recall that Chun-Li kick that you were talking about though, it was like the Flurry power but with the feet. Trying to remember what powerset that was with. Fairly certain it was an early iteration of MA but was replaced within the first issue or two. Don't quote me on that one though. I do remember the attack though, just can't remember for certain where I had seen it...or when. Edit: Just found the video linked by Captain Fabulous, so yeah, looks like I remembered correctly. See, old people still do have memories, lol.
  14. Comprehensive List of all Nerfs that were implemented for one reason or another (officially) but most players of that time knew that the reasons given were bullshit and many of the nerfs were made purely to stop Fire Tanks from Herding and Power Leveling/Influence Farming. These were the nerfs in order as I can remember and the counter to those nerfs listed as well. Remember, this is very old memory, so take it with a grain of salt, but this is how I remember it going down. 1: Aggro Distance Nerf. NPCs would stop chasing you for extremely long distances and would lose interest quicker. (I could be confusing this one with another game though, take this one with a grain of salt.) Players adjusted gameplay by continuing to regain aggro every so often to maintain high mobs 2: Mission Timers. Missions that were commonly used to Herd mobs, such as Ninjas and Wolves missions, had timers added to them so they could not be farmed. Players adjusted simply by moving on to the next best mission, resulting in a LOT of missions getting timers added every time players started using them for Herding. 3: Ambush mob nerf. Ambush mobs were either cut way low, or removed all together. Players were pretty upset over this one, since the only way to get around it, was to start farming a different mission. 4: Recharge time extended on Burn. Players would now keep pocket Kins, who would keep their recharge buffed. 5: Fear added to Burn. Players started adding more Taunt enhancements in their build to counteract the fear. 6: More Fear added to Burn. Players started using Pocket Trollers to hold mobs in Burn Patch. 7: More Recharge time extended on Burn. Players now started sacrificing Damage for more Recharge Enhancements 8: Burn no longer tics every half second, it now has upfront damage, the tics of damage were greatly decreased and would only tic about 4 or 5 times instead of 20+ times. Players would pop Reds to compensate for the damage changes. 9: Enhancement Diversification. Having more than a couple of the same enhancement now was pointless, since the more of the same enhancement you have, the less percentages you get from them. This along with 10 put the final nail in the coffin. Players started leaving the game. 10: Aggro Nerf. Now, instead of no limit to aggro a Tank can hold, it was nerfed to a max number that was so small, it made players quit playing the game in droves.
  15. I want all of the sounds that have been nerfed, and I do mean all of them, to be fully restored and an option put in for people who dislike them. It's a pipe dream to be sure, but...
  16. You know, I started to write something, but like my daddy used to say, "If you can't say anything nice..."
  17. Unless TP is your favorite Travel power, Fold Space is not always a power somebody wants to pick up. I mean, you have to take two other TP powers to get it...and to me, that's a lot. Just to pick up a power that groups up mobs. Back in the day, people actually waited until you grouped them up. Now we need a power to do this? On every single Tank we make? Seems a bit much to expect IMO.
  18. Some Tanks did play this way. From my experience, they were far and few in between. Sure, I ran across Tanks like this from time to time, but the majority of Tanks I had teamed with were team players. You have bad apples no matter how the game's mechanics are.
  19. Lots of opinions. So I'll stick to facts. In the beginning, all classes were essential. All classes felt useful and even needed. It didn't matter which class you played, your role was appreciated and even asked for specifically in LFG. Healers were treated like Gods and Goddesses in those days and were VERY appreciated. There was no contest to see who could do the most damage, all classes had a role to play. The only classes who were concerned with damage output was Blasters and Scrappers. There was no competition between Brutes and Tanks because well, Brutes didn't exist and when they were introduced, they were Red Side only, so even then, there was no issues between Brutes and Tanks, or Blasters and Defenders and Corruptors. Debt was not some minor inconvenience, Debt was a real reason to work together as a team and NOT to go off on your own while the rest of your team stuck together. Playing in this way would teach you very quickly that sticking with the team and playing as a team was essential to survival. Blasters who ran ahead of the Tank to pretend to be Tanks paid a heavy price for it and learned very quickly to wait until the Tank had the aggro before unleashing their hell on the NPCs. I can go on for days, but IMO, the early days of this game was far superior to the game we have today. It was challenging, fun and promoted a team structure. I would give ANYTHING to go back in time and play this game from Issue 1 all over again and escape the hell COH has become today. Incoming thumbs down in 3...2...1...
  20. This has been an ongoing issue since...well, as far back as I can remember. For as long as the game has been around. It has always annoyed players. It's just one of those bugs that were never fixed.
  21. The best Stalker I played in this game back when I did play (Homecoming, not live) was an Elec/Elec Stalker. The Elec Armor was very survivable when you bring your defense up. The resistance and immunity to end drain plus the defense you can pick up in various ways made me very powerful. I have had many compliments on him throughout my days of gaming with Homecoming. Give that a shot and see if it doesn't strike your fancy.
  22. Visuals in this game were once a lot more fascinating to look at. Over the years players have complained away many visuals, not only visuals, but sounds as well. As a small example, Ice Armor on Tanks used to be far more appealing, but certain players complained of headaches if they stood near them, so the graphics were toned way down and made very transparent. So by the time the OG Devs created Judgements, they new better to make anything too flashy, since they knew it would be a matter of time before somebody took issue with it. The game we have today is but a husk of what it once was all across the board. I wouldn't expect anything in the future to change that, so what we have is what we can expect from here out.
  23. That I cannot answer. I am a sound guy, can create sound mods for this game, but that's about it. My knowledge of code is very minimal. I understand the basics, but that's about it. I do know that some changes made were changes of simple numbers that can be changed and on/off switches. The guy over at WeHaveCake server (or whatever they call it these days) was able to reverse a lot of changes simply by turning things on and off and editing numbers, so I know at least some can be changed in this way. As far as IOs and Sets, that may be code and something that can't be adjusted in such a way, however, I am willing to bet values of those sets can be altered without much code knowledge. Just a hunch.
  24. Sounds like heaven to me, haha. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
  25. Well that's good, then it shouldn't be an issue then.
