I have officially “given up” trying to find something better than fire at ST damage. I have a few tricked out 50 Blasters. Dark, Electric, Ice, Beam, Seismic. I look at them I cannot honestly say any of them can get to where Fire is as far as just standing at range at lobbing hate at a Single Target. So last night I rolled a Fire/Temporal Blaster and by this morning I had 50d him and opened most incarnate slots. I have a lunch thing and then will finish up the farming and slap on the build. I have enough Emp merits i can email over to 50+3 him fast but I think I am short a few of being able to Tier 4 him everywhere. Levelled that Seismic last weekend lol This will be my workhorse toon in Really Hard Way Magisterium and a few other trials that require maximum effort on ST. I will pick a key blaster for each trial and just play froma deep bench for fire support roles. For theme I like Dark/Dark best but honestly i do not enjoy Dark secondary. The Sustain alone is a pain instead if being set and forget
-
In the near future I will be running more dark debuff toons. For theme and fun. Dark is a very hardy, yet quirky, powerset in every iteration it has in the game. In my opinion. But due to its quirks it tends to be stronger in certain cases and less useful in others. As opposed to something like fire, which just always has one trick, more damage. Or something like Rad with a constant one effect secondary. So using the Dark powersets to the best of their ability, learning or creating new strategies is definitely part if the fun.
-
It depends on the toon I an running. On my Dark Invul Brute the goal (on a team ) is to capture as much agro as possible, the meanest enemies preferred, whether or not I can kill anything fast On my Blasters I tend to be very kill focused, of course. Priorities are indeed mobs tgat are way more trouble than their “minion” class indicates are fat targets. Then burning down a Boss in a few ST attacks is a healthy strategy. With my Blasters it all depends on team operations. I play the landscape based on how much agro my team has occupied then make target decisions based on 1) how much damage i can safely do 2) who needs to die NOW

You are most likely not the first person to ask. But it sure seems as if you are yes, custom sliders. There are all sorts of shape tricks for characters. One of my favorites is take a huge character then make them as thin as possible. Then make all head sliders huge as possible. Very dramatic. Works nice with fishbowl head as well

This. In a nutshell Let us get a little honest here. This is not the most popular game in the world. It does not get a lot of traffic. New users to the forum are probably going to poke around general and one or two interesting boards. Old users are going to come to General and a couple sub boards they follow. When a thread gets “properly categorized” it is moved to the correct spot in the cemetery. If it is not dead when it is planted it soon will be

Level 50 Ice/Devices Blaster - Enh Set Recommendations?
Snarky replied to Wreckoning's topic in Blaster
I honestly think you should consider switching to a ice/cold Corruptor. Due to Scourge which works perfectly with Ice’s DoT rains and the powerful ST and AoE debuffs available in Cold makes for a true AoE powerhouse. I ran this for a couple months in incarnate trials and was quite pleased I have currently switched to a Beam Blaster for incarnate work so i can hover blast hard targets like Tyrant and other Extremely Hard Targets -
I recall some similar points being brought up during the "fix super strength crash" time....welll, if you want to cut the crash out fine, but we still need to be able to double stack it....there....fixed
-
In my opinion, PROCs should be subject to EXTREME ED type rules. 1st PROC 100%, 2nd PROC 50%, 3rd PROC 25%, then 10%, then 5%, then, if you really need a sixth 1% THis needs to be only for damage dealing procs or old school builds with globals etc could get caught up in the code. This will never happen. I already hear the toddlers pulling on their diapers andf getting a bucket of pacifiers to angrily hurl across the room creep into the discussion. If the DEVS put something that touches their precious on BETA you will hear a baby chorus like the tabernacle choir
-
The Devs spent a ton of time and effort on a project. They got feedback. They had it on Beta then a couple dozen players through a bitch fit from hell like Bridezilla and the Devs junked it. that was the Super Strength fix to get rid of the Rage crash. But the vocal minority want to be able to double stack rage and so the rest of us are stuck with manic depressive hulk clones. Sigh….i stopped running the set, even though i mained it for years on live what i am trying to say is forget the whole topic of nerfing procs. a few vocal babies are already strapping on their diapers and getting pacifiers ready to throw across the room. They will keep their procs

There needs to be KAOS! Down with Control!

Ahhhh….my same response applies to when my SG kept hiding things in the Crucible. Nobody goes there….

No. I do not mean deep and meaningful discussions that change my long deceased heart I am talking about tooics being moved from General. Many times I agree with this being done. Yet, in my opinion, sometimes it is done without being necessary or helpful A recent discussion on Dark Armor is gone. This is a topic that affects many ATs. Moved to “Archetypes”. I looked in Brutes, Tanks, no idea where this is. Was a nice little discussion. Now it is properly filed away. Where evidently it will be hard to find and die a nice neat death

Yeah, I'm having more problems designing a costume and story than working with the set. I farmed one to 50 and threw a bunch of Emps at it. Now have everything tier 4 except Hybrid, opening that up soon. (tier 4 crafted) The thing feels powerful but odd. I am not mitigating KB, instead just pushing incarnate damage. It will be some time before I get a good read on this set. I do wish the animations were less controllery. The Meteor animation is sick good. It plays a lot like an electric blast to me, in fact I used that exact build set for set on it. Well, i went Soul instead of Force, and i do appreciate the second cone which lines up nice with seismics cone.

On my Dark Dark posted above I rely on recharge accuracy and Dark Consumption while levelling. Yes, it does work. If you are attacking enough to drain your Blue then there are enough enemies to steal a full bar of end around. Unless its a AV. Sheesh, carry blues. The stun toggle is crap base accuracy. So I build for global +hit and ACC THis is very necessary as Soul Drain and Dark Consumption and Dark Regen all rely on hit rolls. In CoH the basic defense strategy is layered mitigation. Def>Res>Heal. Dark turns that a bit around, and Dark/Dark gets mean about it. The stealth DOES NOT Suppress in combat. So you can kill 30 Longbow and the 17 Longbow 30 feet away ignore everything. You have crap defense and no defense debuff resistance if you build for it. You do have -to hit, a form of defense on the other end. You are not seen. Not seen, not swung at. Defense. Once you cozy up to a group and they see you most will be in your toggles. Any that are stunned, or feared, are not....swinging at you. More defense. Dark has the best resists in the game, in my opinion. Build for more! Best heal in the game, flat out. With a couple mobs in range you get a full green bar back, and it is up fast.

is earth blast decent damage...? is the nuke really ranged or is that another mids error (i heard it was pbaoe)

You need family for Redside accolades but they are just a chore. Killing Longbow is a lifestyle choice
-
F Longbow. Kill 1000 Longbow badge is the only one i feel real satisfaction every time i get on a new toon. F Longbow.

I ran a Dark Armor Brute almost nonstop for 6 months or so. With Cloak of Darkness on I could jump into the middle of one group of Longbow and kill them ALL. The group of Longbow that were right next to us? Completely ignored what was happening. Every time. Until you attack one of the mobs in that spawn the entire spawn ignores you when you have Cloak of Darkness up. I have not used Shadow Fall enough to speak to it's mechanics. I love Dark Armor. Properly used I think it is some of the most effective armor in the game. I DO NOT recommend it for 'main tanking'

Fair warning, base building at this level is 1) difficult from an artistic standpoint. just because you have oil paint a brush and a canvas does not mean the painting will come out the way you want.... 2) Difficult from an engineering standpoint. To build 'outside' the base you need to learn how. i got a lesson on it once I half remember. the second step was taking a chain of the largest objects in the editor and building a bridge down to the bottom limit of the base zone (outside the base) then starting construction there to give yourself the room you need. a base zone is actually pretty hefty if you count the vertical space. 3) damned tedious. a project like this, for me (if I had the skills, and i do not) would probably take me 100s of hours to knock out the bulk of. The 'finishing touches'....might never be done -
This has been a wonderfully helpful topic. thank you to all. I just rebuilt my 'Tank" alt build on my Brute to drop leadership: Assault for Leadership: Tactics, and squeezed on a Kismet. ( I have it on my 'main' build for the character but thought it less important as a taunter.) Good stuff!

I have not seen an undersea volcano. But... I have seen enough to know you could (with a LOT of time and skill) build a base that would pass for that. But holy crap the time involved. This would be done mostly with the giant rocks....Which you can build INSIDE OF!!!! and a lot, i mean a lot of water placement -
Everything? I am curious. Seriously. So when players set at +4 and you are facing 50+4 mobs....or 50+5! or Relentless Dr. Aeon, or Really Hard Way Magisterium....you still have a 95% chance to hit? I honestly assumed you needed more accuracy in those situations.
-
Chase +Accuracy bonuses in enhancement sets whenever you can get them. Use a Kismet: Accuracy unique enhancer EVERY time you can. The math will work itself out.

YOU are not THE supervillain....yet. Story is driven by drama. If you emerge from the costume creator as ruler of the world with an undersea volcano base able to eat navies at the flick of a switch....where is the drama? I have run every contact and storyline Redside many times. If you play traditionally, you break out of prison. You have powers. About on the level with low grade mutants in the X Men. You are not joining Wolverine and Storm as 1st bench players. your first contacts Kalinda and Burke lay it out for you. If you do not have the patience to play either of their 30 minute arcs and i am not going to type it out here. As you progress through the Redside journey you develop contacts in the criminal underworld and the Arachnos superstructure. You might learn a few things, you might just get powerful. The entire Redside is a giant super group base. It just is not YOURS. It belongs to the current #1 Lord Recluse. Then at 50 you have the opportunity to literally hand him his head. Post 50 you get to gain the same incarnate powers that make Lord Recluse Positron and Cole such badasses But no....you do not start out with a undersea volcano super base. From what I seen you could probably build something that comes close. If you had the talent, time, and inclination. But no one is going to hand you all this. Or maybe they will, get farmed to 50 and con an artist to build you that base. Then you can come back and complain "there is nothing to do" with my cool character.
