redside Why is it so hard for me to play Red Side?
Snarky replied to Dusty Longshot's topic in General Discussion
I have solo'd every contact redside, (which means doing every arc and side mission until the contact offers you nothing) many times. The 1-4 content on Redside is crucial. Matthew Burke and Kalinda lay out the dichotomy of Redside play. Burke explains to work with Arachnos....while screwing them over and doing what you want. Kalinda explains you must conform. While being aware of the rival factions in Arachnos and everyone could turn on you in an instant. Get power, succeed. The other contacts start opening up the story lines of mad science, magic, and the villain groups you face. Redside, bestside. -
i am not a proc builder but i think i remember reading ice procs well. generally proc builds do more dps. that is my understanding. i prefer set bonuses. the only proc build i have is a rad/fire/my brute farmer. so lopsided that i have a separate TF build for him when not farming. but in that farm....yowza....fast clear

Yeah i was in a Dr Q last night with my SG. I was running my farmer brute. Rad/Fire/Mu. No stealth. TF build but all i could do was kill through the first floor or two while some sped through. 1 hour 30 minutes. Hopefully someone got some badge progress or a good drop from what i killed lol

I think ice ice cold Blaster is the perfect Sentinel. Played at 40-60 range. You keep AoE and slows on the mobs. Good ST against AV also from range. The Ice Patch is great but situational. If you CANNOT get away due to mechanics drop it. If you are pulling to an area drop it. If you are overrun drop it. If you are going in to back up a Brute or rescue a teammate drop it. Otherwise use the time to get DPS AoE and slows on the mobs.

I agree with Sunsette. Although I am quick to point out a Sentinels flaws, they are (as an archetype overall) better than some AT/powersets specifically. But people run what they like. I would argue for instance (i do love to argue) that a Sentinel is better than a non Perma Dom Dominator. People run them. People have fun running them. Others team with those people having fun. In fact, a good number of Dominators YOU team with are not perma....BECAUSE THEY ARE STILL LEVELLING. A Dom without most of its build in cannot perma. Sentinels in my book are more useful to a team. (Unless it is a great player, but a great player on a Sentinel is not held back either.) (Unless it is a great player, but a great player on a Sentinel is not held back either.) Let us revisit this. I know a player who mains a Water Blast Sentinel. I main a Dark/Dark Blaster. THat player is more useful to the Leagues we are on. More experienced, better click skills, more focused. Gets stuff done. I wander around like a confused Hellion half the time. Killing unnecessary groups and going the wrong way. Play what you enjoy. The only thing holding you back is you holding you back.

Try to get on trials run by confusion and oklahoman. These are very good PUG i trial leaders. Be honest with them about how new you are. Ask for guidance for me the simplest i trial is BAF. After that Lamda. TPN is very simple but takes a few runs to figure out. Same with Keyes. After that they are all odd in their own ways. You will just have to learn them and find what you like. TinPex is one of the most difficult for me. This is due to the speed and the complexity. Like driving at 100. Real easy to screw up

the abandoned labs (one in port oakes, but there are more...) that you can craft at are fun the first time

Been setting up a Rad/Fire/Mu Brute farmer on my alt acct this weekend. Now i like to badge and i need merits to convert all those farmed recipe drops. I also love TFs. So i joined an Operative Renault. this is not a well known TF. But it is very straightforward. I have a TF build for my farmer. Pretty heavy armored and as well balanced as i can make it. there were a LOT of deaths. None mine. I had already 50d this thing and my TF build has three full purple sets and a bunch of other goodies. I think i used a green inspiration once or twice. People (especially the Blaster) kept jumping toward the mobs and grabbing agro. I have no taunt. I have two!! Damage auras. If you give me one minute all the mobs will attack just me. 58 minutes. Towards the end they were following me. I only said something once mid way through. “I have two damage auras, if i go in first everything attacks me”. You need to say this? anyways i had a hoot got badge and merits. They even thanked me at the end.

In my opinion this is also highly dependent on the AT and powersets. A SS/Invul Brute will be very good on SOs only. I have run them. But a Titan Weapon Invul would be a bit crazy without I/O support. Some ATs are very different with an I/O build. (Dominators...)

I am a “power gamer” in that i enjoy high end builds i actually like the complex formulations required to make the most of a build with ED as an extra consideration. When you have a good build where everything just ‘clicks’ it is such a nice feeling
-
Not precisely. A lot of my builds have at least one very rare (purple) set. I need to fill those holes as i level. I am also the type who will solo all of redside stopping experience as i go. That toon usually needs multiple builds as certain sets are not available until level 27 while i mostly agree with your statement i just happen to run a crapton of the exceptions to it lol finally if you lose a ton of set bonuses due to running something like a posi it is almost always no issue. The tons of inspirations you can carry tend to make up for it
-
Things that make you go WTF??? I am not sure how you build. You mention having lots of enhancer slots left over... so, if you put sets in that give global recharge and a few other things then you can two slot 50+5 inventions on Haste and be at perma or near it bery often. That is pretty standard across a lot of builds. I would need to see one of tour builds to understand your theories

You aint got what it takes. -
confused. i trust Apparition (did you let me down? sigh) lol. But Hedgefund seems to make sense. As I stated in my original post. This game confusing lol.

I played SS/Invul Brutes using just SOs and 90% SO builds for over a year on live. You dont have to sell me. Just now I can afford to slap chrome and show lights on the rig.

Yeah, no. Instead of softcapping S/L I softcapped Ranged Defense. Ice/Ice/Cold has the singular ability to sit 40+ range and be 98% as effective (statistic made up on the spot, tm, pat.. pend.) as if it added a melee attack. That is giving perfect circumstance to blapping. In actuality without the need for repositioning for cones and getting a strategic view of where you want AoEs I would argue it is 105% as effective as adding a "optimal" melee power.
-
so many things do not count in AE....does death?
-
I actually kept it the way it is. My "main" is a Dark/Dark Blaster. For theme, vamp. But the Ice/Ice/Cold is so much easier for me. In very tough environments (+4 ITF, TinPex etc) I follow a Brute or Tank in and let them be the meat shield. Old school style. In any regular difficulty this thing is bulletproof and freezes everything it sees, fast.
-
i tried ice temp first, have to say the ice ice cold works slightly better (for me) the extra AoE slows are my go to and help keep those that survive the killer frost confused and slowed (and in the DoT)

Vet levels do a few things. Most are ego stroking. They do tell another player how long you have played that character. Unless it is a farmer, which can crank vet levels in hours and might be crap to team with unless alt built. They net badges. ooooh shiny. Vet levels give a moderate amount of incarnate components. especially in the early vet levels. this dies off and finally stops at vet 99. So vet levels technically help you shift. but they count for squat. tier 3 your Alpha Incarnate. 1 vet shift....errr incarnate level shift 50+1 until you are exemped to 44, then you are...44 well, if you exemp to 48 i think you are still bounced down, but was mostly talking 45+ TFs tier 3 your Lore and Destiny. each of these is a separate +1 incarnate level. that ONLY count in Incarnate Trials. There is a temporary inspiration available from Luna in Ouro and through Auction House. It is expensive. it grants a very short +1 Incarnate level, which will stack on the others. This is useful in very hard incarnate trials. I regularly play with a league that uses them once a week to do Magisterium badge attempt Really Hard Way. The whole league is 50+4. It can go really brilliantly when the stars align, which they usually do. But the danged Inspiration is 30 incarnate threads...

I have a decent ice ice cold. Thought i had put it up a couple months ago. I will again when i get back home

Yeah. On brutes you pretty much need to drop toggles and wander up to a GM or enter a 4/8 And wander into a group. Otherwise it takes too long
