Blaster survival (even with my strange all range builds, but especially standard) comes down to two words... Git Gud. Seriously though. You need to know to within 95% whether your playstyle will kill a spawn no issues BEFORE you attack. If not, then you need to adjust something. Use inspirations, change positions, set a trap, drop a temp pet etc. Knowledge of what your Blaster can do versus what your Blaster faces. This is the teeter totter all Blasters ride and you have to know how to keep it balanced in your favor. Chasing survival in a build can help. I recently posted a massively survival themed Elec Blaster in the current thread running in this forum. But it ALWAYS comes down to understanding your toon and the environment.

Again, the inspiration fir the build was watching a random Blaster help a fire farmer in a large 4x8 map. Now, solo is different, I grant you. But with any idiot, er teammate, grabbing agro you are golden. Also, as any good Blaster knows, you can clean any non EB 17 spawn, even at +4, with a good nuke and some follow up shots. To take down the defenses it needs to be hit. Seriously look at the range. This is not a short range build. It fires all attacks at long range. So a debuff attack will have very few follow up hits to sustain debuff. Because very few enemies lash out at very long range. This is a Blaster stalker with “oh crap” impenetrable shields. It is not optimized to be soloing 4/8. It is optimized to sit with any team as a highly survivable damage dealer. An A10 Warthog dealing death from afar. Not the Sentinel AFV serving close combat role while providing fire support. It is an odd duck, which waddles to its own tune.

Playing a fully ranged Electric Blaster with softcap ranged defense gives you 1) A LOT more killing power than a Sentinel. (Dead things do not shoot back) 2) A build so lazy that you can cram on lots of get out of jail free cards here is the thang: For your amusement (and mine) I have altered a character I have on live to be a "Blanker": a Blaster who builds more like a Tanker. The impetus for this was a new player who was doing what I considered very odd things with a Blaster build. But was offering up decent fire support in 4/8 AE farms with only a moderate number of face plants. I thought to myself...remember that electrical blaster you parked.... I have made many runs at Sentinels. A half dozen 50s, many hours gaming. Many TFs. Never found what i wanted. This....monstrosity....may indeed be that Sentinel. I do need to play test it. Just got it respec'd and noticed I could shave one more slot. Back to mids for the final build. Will respec and playtest this week. Build goals. 1) Tanky as possible with a number of "O crap!" buttons/solutions. 2) Fully Ranged 3) More damage than a Sentinel. (I cheated on that one I know) Achievements. 1) 45.01% Ranged Defense while in combat ( = 45%) 2) 75.56% Smash/Lethal Resistance. Standing stone cold just running passive toggles all the time. (Yeah, I know right?) ( =75%) 3) Phase Shift available for 30 sec about every 50 seconds or so. So long suckers. 4) Personal Force Field. Available about every 9 seconds. This was the power the AE Blaster was abusing that got me thinking... 5) Force of Nature available every 5 minutes. This beauty gives a 2 minute window of +35% resist across the board along with +100 End Recovery. There IS a crash at the end. See above for possible solutions. Hide, pop a sm blue, use either of the other two o crap buttons. Not a Invulnerable melee toon. The crash is dealable with in my opinion. As always feedback is appreciated. My Elec Temp Blaster does way more damage than a Sentinel and is way more survivable. Built for range, ranged defense, and has multiple "oh crap" buttons I have given up (since 6 months ago? a year?) trying to share stuff from MiDs, since the mids team took the easy export feature out behind the shed, screwed it, killed it, screwed it again, buried it, dug it up, and screwed it one more time.

Are you able to fight anything? at +4/x8? Do you use Rune of Protection? Inspirations? The reason I thought you were farming is I very rarely die with this Brute build. One memorable occasion trying to save a Blaster from about four full spawns of Rularuu, and a few times in a Really Hard Way Magisterium attempt in the final fight. (Tough fight for any melee really) Farming would explain dying, to me. Or you are not using Dark Dark correctly. At +4/x8 you do not want to agro 2-4 spawns of 17 baddies. You have Stealth. Un suppressing stealth. You can kill 17 +4/x8 Longbow while the other 150 +4 Longbow mill around thirty feet away and ignore you killing their friends. When you whittle those down go get the next spawn. Or charge two spawns and use Rune of protection and/or inspirations. Time your heal and use it. If you see you are down a third health but it took them 10 secs to do that, heal up. You now know your heal will mostly cover anything they can do easily. I can write everything about Dark...except a play by play against enemies I do not know, with your playstyle also unknown. When I play this build it is easy street. When you play it you die. Find something else? A Hyperstrike Invul Brute is nigh unkillable, even if you go to the bathroom.

there are a number of CoH/V outlines that would be pretty cool. Part of the trick is then decorating the cookie to bring the concept to life. Think Lord Recluses Helmet, Longbow flyer, etc

Some of the Dark armors and auras have a misty ripple effect on the floor. Might want to look in the character creator where you can customize endlessly

Well Hami is epic. Both in audacity and execution. The original Dev team decided to create a giant HP Amoeba and did not back off that bold, simple, stupid design. Then created lore behind it. Kudos. It actually worked. (Mostly because playas be playas…) The best GM is sort of just an AV….when Tyrant goes godzilla in the Magisterium. But that fight is epic, especially for badges. In all I enjoy the variety, lore, and dispersal throughout the city and isles of the GMs. My favorite (and most frustrating) hunts are for Caleb for badge. So good when it happens. My least favorite is Sally, mainly due to griefing from other players. People really suck sometimes.

I agree. I do not do discordant toons to be anti-X I do them to be Pro-X For instance, my Little Green Army man AR/Dev that i want the tiny Particle Aether costume. That is a concept that cries out for the tiny costume. But I wont pay for it, so it drove a bit of a gap between me and gaming.

can slip back to Santa Barbara and grab a snack, then get back to peace and quiet. A tomb would be preferable. However Santa Barbara is the northern tip of LA and there are no quiet graveyards. Even the abandoned buildings get plenty of visitors.
